Good food.
Good location.
Courteous and professional staff.
Two things that I liked the most.
1. When the server picked up the bill to bring my change, he never asked "would you like change?" That causes me to be a bit disgrunteld when I'm asked that by a server. He simply said: "may I take that for you?"
2. Before we left, the server thanked us for coming and told us to have a nice day.
Every time I've been to this establishment I've had a good time and felt that my business was appreciated; regardless if I spent $5 for a drink or $30 for food.
After my son's swim class, we decided to check out the wavehouse grill to have some lunch. The environment is cool: right on the boardwalk, you can put your feet in the sand underneath your table, you can watch the people trying out the wave machine!
It was super busy while we were there. It took FOREVER for us to get our drinks and food. When we asked for another chips and salsa, some malt vinegar for our fish and chips, or a refill on our drinks, we would see our waitress cleaning tables before getting what we had asked for.
I had the spicy wings that were chicken wings that was drowned in sweet chili pepper sauce, a bit overwhelming. My husband and sis-in-law had the fish and chips that could easily been the frozen kinds from the grocery store. The food is overpriced and not very good. The kitchen is a little hut in the middle of the eating area - actually, the bar looked bigger than the kitchen!
I can see how this place is cool to hangout and have drinks, but not to have a meal.
I went to Wave House once on a Sunday and never returned because it's just not my kind of scene.
The brunch buffet is KILLER though.
Seeing chicks attempting to walk through sand in high heels is always amusing. Ladies, it's Wave House in San Diego...not Rehab in Las Vegas. Wear flip flops.

The Wavehouse is a place you HAVE to bring your friends when they come in town to visit. They usually don't have a cover, and drinks aren't too overpriced for such a cool place. With plenty of space, great food, and plenty to keep your eyes busy this is a great place to kill some time and soak up some sun. My only complaint is the consistency of quality, sometimes I can go here and get an amazing margarita, or pina-colada and sometimes I get something so bad I don't even want to drink it.
Sundays - No cover before 2:00, $10 after. Crowed! Best time to go is between 12:00 and 3:00 in my opinion, after that it gets kind of...how to I put this, Jersey Shore-ish?

Great place to see a concert because of the outdoor ambiance. Where else can you enjoy a great band near the ocean with the sand beneath your feet and fire pits lit around you? It's also nice because there are tables and seats if your feet get tired. My only complaint is that it can really feel crowded in the area near the stage because of the bottleneck created by the bar and sound/light area.
The ladies and I stumbled upon the "Sundaze" beach party on our last & final stop of our weekend and thought it was a pretty rad departure from the Vegas pool party scene.
My favorite part was the massive flowrider wave machine; the focal point of the place. Watching surfers do their tricks in a man-made wave & pipeline is a nice change of pace to the same ol' same ol' .There are a few tables and lifeguard like white chairs that give you a prime view of the action. I noticed a pole that measured the height of the jumps and light fixtures on the frame. I thought about how cool it must look to watch this go on at night, with the music and lights going and all. Sweet!
The only problem I have is that you are steps from the ocean, yet there isn't a pool inside for you to cool off in (except an indoor covered one that is not within the party area), AND it's difficult to find a seat because most of the seats are allocated to reserved "cabana" areas that charge for bottle service. We ended up siting on the stairs that fronted the flowrider and watched surfer dudes do their thing while we sipped on our drinks.
The crowd is pretty mixed - some younger, some in their 20's-30's. There is a little bit of everything from laid back locals, to chiseled surfers, to dressed to impress younglings. For the most part, a decently attractive crowd. Oh yeah, and a few tools to round out the mix. There was this one meat head who kept trying to impress us with his extensive vocabulary (although he used words incorrectly and made some up), and he kept making his pecs bounce like Drew Barrymore's brother in the movie 50 First Dates. Gross. The bartender was amused watching the whole thing play out, and said we were like the 10th group this guy has tried to hit on without success.
The music was 'aight - mostly house which is fine to listen to, but not really to dance to. It seemed like the party really just began to get started when we had to leave. I'd check it out again except I'd go later in the day and stay through night to get the p.m. experience.
If Disney created a bar w/ a meat-market-esque dance party, it would be The Wavehouse.
OK. I'm not going to lie to you, the food here was surprisingly good. However, I'm not going to give a good review purely based on the fact I was expecting poo and got decent.
I'm just pretty anti this novel idea of the surfing machine ON a beach that is completely surf-able... but it was pretty fun to watch. This place is insanely tourist, and is pretty much why it exists. It turns into a dance party on weekends and they kick you out of f of tables while nearby "gentleman" eye you and your posse like lions ready for the feast. ew.
I would never go here again unless I was meeting a random out-of-towner and I would never EVER take any visiting friends.

This place is so over rated. First of all the cover charge is unwarranted. Second it's always way to crowded and the bathrooms are like cattle pens. There are not enough and always huge lines. I'll never be back here.

The only people who rate WaveHouse at more than one star are the people who don't know the truth about them: WaveHouse was the largest contributor to the passage of Proposition D, the San Diego beach alcohol ban. Everyone who goes to a bar that is right next to the beach, with sand as a floor and a fake wave obviously likes the idea of drinking on the beach. Otherwise they wouldn't be at WaveHouse.
Why would WaveHouse contribute to the beach alcohol ban? Because, like the mechanic who messes up your car so you'll come back to his garage, the WaveHouse greedily screwed over their own clientele thinking that it would force people into their joint for their overpriced drinks and sub-par food. Where I come from, that's called highway robbery.
If your friends like going to WaveHouse, it is your DUTY to inform them of what WaveHouse did to San Diego. In a year in which WaveHouse eliminated their own employee bonuses because they said times were tough, they still found a way to donate at least $15,000 to this political campaign designed to hurt their own customers.
Greed. Pure greed.

As a disclaimer, I have only EVER been to Wave House for Sundaze during the summer months when they play host to good dj's on Sundays (and sometimes Saturdays) from about 2:00 - 10:00pm. In that capacity, this place is one of my absolute favorite locations in San Diego and the ONLY place you can go to hear electronic music during the day on a Sunday while being on the beach in your swimsuit. It never gets too crowded, and the drinks are reasonable (go to the beer pong section in the back to get your hands on a $10 bud light pitcher, then take it back up to the front to watch the dj).
I love this place because it is a great alternative to where I usually see dj's: over-priced, after hours clubs that are dark, crowded and loaded with druggies. It is a laid back atmosphere where even the staff seem to be there to enjoy the music. And I have never paid more than $10 to get in.
And guys, the reason they supported the alcohol beach ban was because they want you to walk 2 more feet to buy a drink from them instead of bringing your own booze. Come on, simple business decision. If you want to blame someone, blame the City Council.
My one gripe: I went there on 4th of July and the staff said that Victor Dinaire would be spinning until 10:00pm. They kicked him off the stage at 8:30pm, saying that it had gotten "too rowdy." It wasn't rowdy at all! Not cool.
After reading the reviews from others, I was kind of taken back. so maybe I'm not the person to follow on this review
-my experience at this bar is great, Ive only been there on Mondays, so the drink and food are half off. which is fine by me. some of the girls there are kind of trashy but that's everywhere.
as for this alcohol ban, i moved here when it was first implemented, I still drink on the beach. As far as I'm concern i never knew that it was OK to drink in public settings anyway. So just do what i do drink moderately and keep composure.
However it doesnt get the extra two stars for how they kind of harassed me when i was trying to get in the first time i came there. 50 billion questions and throughly checking only me, while not nearly doing the same to others, is rather odd...
Have you checked their website http://www.wavehouse.com? Their live 24/7 web cam is sick. Nice work!

I don't like this place for many reasons, and I have chosen to boycott this establishment. Drinks are extraordinarily expensive. People who go there have a lot of the pretentiousness that you see in the downtown club scene. The sand there is rough and uncomfortable under your feet. They routinely charge a $20 cover. The lines are always long. Good luck finding a place to park. Most importantly, they donated $15,000 to the Yes on Prop D campaign. Passage of Proposition D made drinking alcohol on the beaches illegal.
I hope the money was worth it. You won't be getting any of mine. BOYCOTT WAVEHOUSE!

I try to avoid PB like the plague but our friend Tyler was celebrating his 30th birthday and we had to go celebrate.
And I am glad I did...
I can only review the private party we were attending. The area set up for us was awesome. It had sand with a ping pong table, beach games, a private bar and a buffet of food. Tables and shade. Awesome little area for a party under a 100 or so.
The food was pretty great. BBQ type of food. Salad, potato salad, chicken, beef. The BBQ sause was amazing. I bit of a heat kick and tangy, not too sweet. Delicious!
Our friends rented the wave for an hour. Those of us who did not want to ride the wave but wanted to hang out were allowed to kick it in the jacuzzi tubs the have at the front of the wave. Awesome. Front row view of all of our friends wiping out and getting thrown around.
All of the staff that were helping were all very friendly and helpful.
Best part though, our friend Ty taking Patron shots with his Mom, Aunt and Grandpa. Yah, they won't come with your private party. Sorry!
Happy 30th TY, here's to 30 more!

Screw you Wavehouse for your support of Prop D. I have been here a couple times and its always been crowded (sometimes painfully so). The lines are usually long and drinks/beer prices are average. Biggest draw is the proximity to the beach, but after finding out that they gave 15 grand to support the beach ban, I will never spend another cent there. Lahina's is way cooler with much better food.
Alcohol was banned because jerks like the owners of this place gave money to breed fear into those who never come to the beach. Ban alcohol on the holidays when irresponsible East County or Arizona converges on the beach and starts trouble, but not the entire year!
Drinking a cold beer on the beach on a sunny Saturday afternoon used to be my favorite thing in the world to do. Fuck you wave house.

Like most people who have grown up in San Diego and grew out of their 20's, I avoid Pacific Beach. It's just such a crowded place with tourists, young 20 somethings, teenagers, and brosefs. The Wave House embodies the change of a downtown scene with the sensibility of being at the beach. This place was almost created for an MTV Beach House weekend and it shows. But there is some fun to be had if you are willing to brave the crowds and assholes. For my buddy Tyler's 30th birthday that was reason enough for me to brave the place. I have to say that the gal who put our party together was absolutely amazing. Shannon made sure that we were taken care of with great bbq food, flowing drinks, privacy, and just the thrill of being waited on. Of course the Wave House laid her off 2 days later. So that sucks ass.
But if your looking for that MTV Spring Break atmosphere, want to ride the wave, and listen to great music from one of the best DJ's in San Diego mixing live, then you could do worst then checking out the Wave House. Just make sure you check out more of the fun places in San Diego when you have grown up and graduated from tourists spots in Mission Beach.

The novelty of the place is cool. 40 bucks an hour to ride fake waves, have a few beers, and NOT drown in the ocean doing it.
The food is just OK here. Went with the Nachos as an appetizer and the BBQ bacon burger with fries for lunch. Really, the food was average. I can't put any spin on it to make it better. And really, for what your getting, it is overpriced. The bar tab on the other hand, wasn't that bad. Of course, it did taste like the drinks were watered down.
We came on a cloudy Saturday afternoon, not very busy, but the service was SLOW. They were friendly, but I think we were there 15 minutes before we got a drink and a menu. I won't be back, but if you like surfing in a controlled environment, give it a shot.
5 stars because they have a man made wave !
for all you fooos saying sh*t like oohh it's over priced don't get the food.... no sh*t what did you just move here from zonie land or east county ?
please tell me what other place has a man made wave... and sells liquor ?
ps. if you're to cheap to pay for alcohol learn how to sneak it in putos...

I love this place! I don't know how I've missed it all these years. Now, I should say I was there on a cloudy Saturday afternoon with no show or anything going on, so it wasn't crazy packed like I heard it usually is. I hate crowds and shoving past people and lines, so if it was one of their busy days I probably wouldn't love it as much, but anyway... this place is so fun. There are two different wave-making machines that you can surf on, bars, hammocks, fire pits, an ice cream shop, picnic tables, and a stage. It's like its own little mini-beach inside. I only had ice cream when I stopped in to watch the "surfers", but I think they have a good selection of food and a Sunday brunch.

The Wave House is different, though. It's an outdoor bar with a stage on one side, a big wave machine on the other side that people ride on for what I hear is a rather outrageous rate ($40 an hour). In between these two stages of fun are a bunch of outdoor bars and cabana spaces. Jena was headed there for a birthday party for one of her friends, Jackie. So we meet Jackie at one of the outdoor bars with her friends and we just hang out. Mark asks if I wanted anything to drink and I slightly hesitated since I was driving, but said to hell with it and asked what he was drinking. He said Bud Light so I thought that'd be okay. He gave me this soda can of beer, which relieved me a bit because I was expecting a glass bottle. Not crazy about beer, lemme tell ya.
So after a little while, Jackie herds Jena and a bunch of her own friends over to this cabana she had apparently reserved because she knew the waitress who helped us throughout the day. At least, it looked like she knew her. Honestly, I wished I brought my camera. The waitress realized the party was going to be bigger than she initially thought so she moved us to the adjoining, bigger cabana. It was admittedly pretty cool. We could people watch and see some of the people braving the artificial wave. It was kinda strange that the main dance floor had its music blaring (mostly techno remixes and the like) and an adjoining "fun place" blaring their music. We were in between those two. The "fun place" to our right was like a game lounge. It had a dance floor, bar, beer pong tables, a beanbag toss game, Twister, and hula hoops. It seemed like a fun place. I split my time between there and the cabana for a while. We set up our own beer pong table at the cabana. It was pretty sweet. I'd never played beer pong before and when these two guys kept missing while going against Mark and another dude, I stepped in as a sub and nailed one on my first shot. Beginner's luck, but I did sink a couple of balls in there. Of course, I had to pay for entering the game because Mark and the other guy kept nailing their shots consistently and I think I had about three of those cups of beer. On top of the screwdriver I made for myself and that cranberry drink I had later, it was a lot more to drink than I told myself I would have. That, of course, meant that I had to use the bathrooms a couple of times. Interesting setup they have there at the Wave House. There's a bathroom monitor for each gender and there are no sinks in the bathroom. They are remarkably small, though clean given how reguarly they're used. Pretty sure you don't wanna take a shit in those bathrooms though, 'cause that would be dirty.
A catfight between two women had already occurred in front of us earlier that the house security was all over in like, three seconds; it was ridiculous. A fight broke out, people started crowding around, then all we saw were a bunch of red shirted security guys surrounding the scene. One guy actually burst through one of the coverings behind our cabana, leapt over the sofa, then sprinted to the scene with three other guys AFTER the fight had been broken up and the people dispersed. Dude! You don't need to be that eager over a catfight.
But the Wave House is rather expensive.

I don't understand how anyone could rate this place lower???? It is right on the beach, there is a huge wave, and they have beer pong every Sunday and Tuesday.
http://BeerPongLeagues... just started puting on a league at the Wave House. Every Tuesday night. Plus, there is a Beer Pong Garden on Sundays. Find out more info here... http://www.beerponglea...
I have had their food and it is good. No wait at lunch.

Definitely a place to take your single friends that want some eye candy. I do like the beach setting to this place.. the music, the giant WAVE, which is pretttty sweet. However, this place is waaaay over priced- a $10 cover and cans of budlight for $4 YIKES! The mixed drinks may be the way to go here. This place reminds is like a mini spring break bar... Fun on Sunday- Sundaze. Predrinking is highly recommended :)

Some folks may get mad about my review, but before you get yourselves worked up, I am just doing my review based on Wavehouse as a music venue and nothing more.
As a music venue, the place sucks. It is difficult to see an artist perform through the palm trees and soundguy and the area where there is good visibility is actually quite small.
Memo to the owner of the Wavehouse who is actually thinking of not leasing the Canes to the people who run Canes....You run an amusement park with music. Canes runs a music establishment and does it well...then they pay you rent. Why would you want to ruin that great symbiotic relationship. Leave the music to them and the amusement to you.
The good news is well drinks were cheap and the artist I saw was awesome. But, again...they should have been playing at Canes or Belly Up or even 4th And B (which they've rocked many times).
That stage at the wavehouse is just about good enough to host Rockola or various mainstay cover bands. The unfortunate thing is, you have booked some acts that I like out from under legit music venues so I will be forced to see more shows at the Wavehouse.

Screw this place!
Seriously, how can anyone take this place seriously anymore. How can anyone take any beach front bar seriously that campaigns for banning booze on the beach while at the same time promoting the joys of drinking with a beach front view. Let me get this straight, it's ok to have a drink at the beach so long as I do it in your establishment and pay your prices?
I used to have a beach front view for my afternoon beer, but you campaigned to have it taken away from me. You suck you suck you suck. I hope you burn in Hades for eternity.
There is nothing like sitting by the beach, enjoying the gorgeous ocean view. Wave house is a great place to have a drink and lunch and catch a gorgeous sunset by the fire pit. It gets really crazy and crowded and sometimes you feel like you are at a frat party BUT who cares when you are with your friends and eating a delicious shrimp quesadilla?
Downside, their food and drinks are way overpriced, but aren't most bars by the beach overpriced?
There are pros and cons:
Pros: The bartender Katie, very nice and on top of shit. Fun because you can drink and be at the beach getting some sun. It is always entertaining to watch the wave riders, time fly's.
Cons: The drinks are going to go up 100% if not more come May...Lame! When are these people going to get it, keep it the same and you will have a lot happier clientele. Charge a small cover, anything don't raise the drinks! I am not really happy that in order to drink at the beach I have to subject myself to one of the main Prop D supporters.
But I will say that I had a great time last Saturday, got to meet Johnny Moseley. nice
This place would get a "No Star" if it was possible! I can't believe this place had the nerve to support the alcohol ban on the beach. WTF is up with that sh@#! The only people going in there are the tourist and they are a bunch of idiots too for buying over priced food and drinks from that sorry ass establishment. I wouldn't piss on this bar if it was on fire and someone paid me to do it.

We went to the Wave House of out convenience and had standard bar-food experience. At the table, we had: fried fish and chips, quesadilla with chicken and the BLT with side of fries. All pretty standard. I had the quesadilla and something was off with the fresh ingredients - couldn't tell if it was the tomatoes inside the dish, or the salsa on the side. Definitely past their prime and off-tasting. I will say the windy day was chilly and it was nice to sit inside the covered patio out of the breeze - may have been the best part.
I'm pleased to learn that money-grubbing Wave House was the bar that donated the most money to pass Prop D (banning alcohol on the beach, for those who don't know), because I now have even more reason to boycott them.
Bathrooms suck. Lines a mile long for a few unkempt stalls. Whoever designed this is less than genius, because if I can't pee, I can't drink. So I guess it doesn't matter that the drinks are overpriced & crappy, since I won't order them anyway.
Food is truly bad. How can you screw up nachos? Even a skating rink can master this.
People are...hilarious. Except for the time that I saw a bikini contest take place, and some horrid Real Housewife of OC put her 8 year old daughter (Jon Benet) on stage in something Paris Hilton would wear a cover-up over. How did they let that happen? The Wave House is an abomination.
If you want to enjoy drinks on the beach (albeit not ON the beach, which you can thank Kevin Faulconer & The Wave House for), go to Lahainas. They are wisely against Prop D & will appreciate your business.

I honestly don't want to even give this place one star. First of all, this place breeds bro dudes and slutty tramps. The crowd is cheesy, immature and an embarassment to this city. It is like a frat party barfed on the beach and this grew from it. Plus, is it just me, or is everything overpriced, especially consaidering the crowd you have to battle with and the nonsense music they play.
Second, they donated $15,000 in support of proposition D....just to better their chances of increasing their permits to sell booze 2 feet from the beach. AND, I can almost bet that once the final numbers are released, we will see that they donated even more. I have told all of my friends to avoid this place at all costs and I suggest that all of you do the same!

I'm so happy the grandkids of the Beach Boys have a place to call home! Right on the Pacific Ocean with outdoor bar and indoor pool (stuffy and humid room-rather gross) and bar. Give it a try if you're in the mood but surfer gringos beware: That wave pool is no joke. The night we were there a guy was taken out by ambulance in traction after falling in the the wave pool.
Highlights- Great entertainment watching the boogie boarders and surfers in the pool.
Free to enter the place and check it out.
Great Drink Prices for being right on the beach. They have some fall specials going on 7 days a week. Beer (can, which, i know I'm in the minority, but I like!) Heinekens, Corona, Tecate for 3.00. 4.00 for captain and cokes.
Terriyaki Skewers, 11.00. Great sauce, meat was a bit chewy.
Downside- Picnic table seating is cramped and feels like they are made for kids.
Service is a bit slow but after the first beer I can figure it out and order accordingly. Like when my drink is 3/4 empty.
Minus only 1 star for donating a large sum of money to ban alcohol on the beach. (almost everyone i know who lives in mission beach is happy alcohol is banned due to alcohol related idiots and crime. One reason they might have donated was because people drinking on the beach were queuing up their banos)

One time I saw an absolutely badass Tiesto show at this venue, but generally this is a tourist spot where Midwestern bumpkins crowd the boardwalk and say "Oh hay y'all! They got a wave machine in thare!".
The Wavehouse does have some pretty sweet deck chairs though that face the ocean. These are perfect for day drinking and people watching. The deck chairs also give you the perfect vantage point to launch ice at unsuspecting people as they walk the boardwalk. Watch their confused reactions as they try to figure out what just hit them. It was ice, you fools! Ice thrown by me! It also helps to have the maturity of a 12 year old.
Anyways, the drinks here are overpriced and come in dixie cups. This is OK if you go to P. Diddy's next kegger, but not so cool when you are at a second-rate beach bar. Occasionally they'll get a good band/DJ, but the venue sucks balls anyways so it's not even worth it. It took me an hour to get into the one concert I attended. By the time I got inside, every single BRO-CAL douche had taken off his shirt. I understand it is an open air bar in sunny San Diego, but the homoerotic overload was a little much for me. By the way, do my pecs look good, dude?
In summary, go to the Wavehouse if you have no concept of fun or you just fell off a pumpkin truck from Ohio.

I had a coupon for buy one entree get one free. It was nice sitting in the sand with the beautiful weather. Don't go at all for the food. We got BBQ pulled chicken sandwiches and the meat was very tough, dry and cold. The fresh fruit was good quality though. They have a bunch of specials too. It was completely dead on a summer day midweek for lunch which was surprising. You can't get a great view of the beach traffic at a regular table, but if you want to eat the bar stool area isn't that accommodating for your plate of food. Either way it's a great place to get out of the office for a midweek office lunch.
The food is OK but if you're looking to catch the sunset sipping on a beer or learn how to surf or just relax...the wavehouse is just the place. I was at the wavehouse waveboarding at the other end of the place(not where the pros are at) and had an awesome time. The guy working there was very helpful and patient explaining what needs to be done to get things right. I had an hour shared with about 5 other people and it was just enough to say I'm a fan of wave house. After catching some "waves" I watched the sunset by sitting by the entrance which was fantastic. This place is where I would go to sip on a beer, relax and pretend I'm in a tropical place far far away.

This place is all about the waves and the atmosphere. It should be listed under attractions rather then restaurants.
I ordered the Mahi "sez-a-me" sandwich with the potato salad. The best part of it Was the potato salad.
I don't normally drown my food in mayo or ketchup or goop, because it is no fun to eat what you can't even see! But I had too! The mahi mahi was bland, certainly frozen. I put the tartar sauce concoction on it and it didn't help. Then I sprinkled it with pepper and a touch of salt. Still no luck.
Funny thing was when the waitress came by and said "Well it must of been good, it's gone." I thought to myself, no actually I was starvin' and I have eaten a bunnies eyeball before.
Later that night I had dinner at the Pala Casino buffet and I had some of their mahi mahi. It was sooo much better. Yes, two extra OO's better. I think that is rather sad that an Indian Casino buffet would have better fish then any establishment that is right on the beach!
A great place to go at night possibly to drink and enjoy the scenery. But eat somewhere before hand. Or maybe try their nachos. They did look good and nobody can screw up nachos.

If you happen to be at Belmont Park or walking around Mission Beach, its definitely worth your while to drop in on the Wavehouse. Sit outside at a table or stand with the crowd and watch surfers, boogie boarders, and body surfers test their skills on this machine-made wave. Add in the two full bars that surround the outdoor viewing space and you'll be hooked in no time.
Every time I've been to the Wavehouse, there has been no cover. Anyone can walk in and watch people take on the wave for as long as they wish. I've never eaten the food here, but I tend to doubt it's anything to write home about. Stick to drinks and the Wavehouse will not disappoint.
Awesome on sundays. Fun environment because its almost on the beach and you can drink. It is a bit overpriced and some of the servers are really bitchy!!!! I recommend going to the bar for drinks.
