By far one of the best meals I have ever had....
My boyfriend and I went up to Door County for a romantic weekend away. We hit up all the local spots, did wine tasting and had our final dinner here at Waterfront Restaurant. WOW was it good!
We started off with wine and an appetizer- the scallops. They were so delicious. Perfectly cooked and the bacon and snap-peas were a perfect touch. Along with the rosemary bread, we were already pretty happy before the entrees were even served.
My boyfriend ordered the swordfish, which was new for him, and he loved the dish. It was prepared to perfection and very tasty. I'm not a HUGE fish person, but I thought it was great as well. The big hit, was my dish- the bone in ribeye. Every flavor on this plate was absolutely amazing. My mouth waters right now just typing this. It was served with asparagus and roasted red potatoes. So good!
We both joked the next day that we would consider making the 4 hour+ drive from Chicago simply to dine at Waterfront once again. -

Waterfront view with superb food and impeccable service? If this isn't five stars then it doesn't exist in Door County and this IS five stars.
We started out with the pork belly appetizer which is to bacon as eggs are to a souffle, loosely related but doesn't quite give you the idea. It was so savory and delicious that my mouth is watering just thinking about it. I then had the Greens salad with all my favorites - cheese and pear with greens and a divine dressing. Then, I had this amazing lamb - Mary's little lamb would volunteer to be this dish, that's how good it is. The meal ended with a tart, creamy piece of flavorful wonder that they call a lemon goat cheese tart.
Sigh of bliss.
Flash of irritation, why do I live so far from this restaurant?Listed in: Door County - doing the DC

Scallops, a great view and not eating boiled fish. Great night.
Not sure why the woman at the next table brought her 8 year old daughter, not a kid place. Her high pitched chatter was luckily only there for the end of our meal. People, it's called a b.a.b.y.s.i.t.t.e.r. - check it out.
Had pork belly, caesar salad, great scallops and lemon tart. Everything was great and we made it to our play easily.
Going to Door County? Skip the fish boil and go here instead! -

My wife and I had a great meal here. We ordered the Duck Confit Ravioli appetizer, apple salad - both of which they spit for us without our asking. Both were wonderful -- the duck was fantastic, with a sharp contrast between the ravioli and the duck/greens/dressing. The salad was beautifully presented, and a wonderful taste treat.
I had the scallops and my wife had the whitefish "in paper". Two contrasting dishes. The scallops alternated with nice chunks of lobster with a tasty corn relish over the top. The whitefish had delicate citrus flavors combined with red potatoes and veggies.
Nice "martini" cocktails to start and a pleasant Napa Sauvignon Blanc complemented seafood on a very hot day. Great service - attentive, but never pushy. This allowed us to enjoy a beautiful sunset through the large bank of windows facing West.
An elegant way to spend a Door County evening. We will be back! -

This is an absolutely fabulous restaurant. Our entire group of eight raved about the meal and in fact, I personally had the best meal I have ever eaten in my life. The escolar fish was prepared to perfection and every bite was a culinary delight. It was so good I asked to have the chef visit our table so I could get a photo from the man that prepared such a meal. You will be happy you visited this beautiful restaurant with a perfect setting in Door County!

Ugg I hate giving this place a two when the food was so good but I have to put my foot down. I was so excited to have a nice night out at the end of my first trip to Door County but unfortunately that was not to be. When our server brought our drinks to the table, she knocked my boyfriend's water over and all over his lap and very expensive, dry-clean only shirt. Now, accidents happen. I am such a klutz myself and I am always spilling on him. However, this water was ice cold and we had just sat down. He went to the bathroom and the server barely said I'm sorry. When he returned, a new drink was waiting for him. We continued the meal but he was forced to sit in wet pants. When the check came, the server had only taken one drink off of the bill. In the opinion of the entire table, more should have been done. The food was great, I loved the seafood because it was unbelievably fresh and the dessert was fabulous as well. I just can't stand it when any establishment has terrible service, especially an expensive upscale location such as this. Maybe when I return next summer, I can update this review if no one spills a drink on me.

I'm sad to be the first to have a not-so-awesome experience at the waterfront. First, we sat at the bar and had cocktails. Both were watery or rather the mixer was overwhelming. The snail app we had was OK nothing spectacular. We split a small order of the truffle pasta which was quite good and I was happy that they made their own pasta. R had the duck and he was very under whelmed by it and it was recommended by the waiter so that was confusing. I had the scallops which were cooked well but the accompanying garnish of mushrooms were so strongly flavored with vinegar that I could not appreciate the scallops or the mushrooms.
The waiter was very nice and did recommend a tasty wine.
I sadly feel that this restaurant gets high marks due to the sunset putting people in a state of euphoria. -

Thursday's are pasta sampler night, and they do it really well. Get a seat at sunset near the windows with a view of the water. Amazing atmosphere with quaint but upscale feel to it. I highly recommend this place.

Exquisite food!
Truly a 5 star restaurant: At this high quality price is not an issue.
We just were completing a sail boat charter and asked the owner (of the sailboat) places that he would recommend. The other two were closed so we decided to try this restaurant. We are very glad we did!
The place does not require that people dress up. We weren't and felt out of place. However no one appeared to be perturbed by our presence.
Our waiter, Greg, was friendly, prompt, etc.
The three of us tried each others entrees and very much liked them all: Shark Paella, Norwegian Salmon, and a Whitefish Pot Pie.
The appearance of the food is very attractive - check out their web site. This ain't Hardee's or McDonald's where the photos in the ads bear little resemblance to the product that I'm given.
The wine was good. They serve a good NA beer called Buckler.
The creme brulee was very good to excellent.
A lovely golden light infused the restaurant as the sun went down!
Despite the price we will go back - after my billfold recovers. -

My favorite restaurant in Door County. Make a reservation and get a seat towards the back of the restaurant so you can watch the sun set over Lake Michigan. I was wearing a blazer, but after a quick scan upon entering noticed that I was the only one with a jacket. If it were in the city you'd definitely see more jackets. You can get away with nice jeans and a collared shirt, but you'd probably feel awkward if you stopped in here with board shorts and a t-shirt.
My wife and I shared a brie appetizer, which was fantastic.
We each had a glass of wine.
I ordered Frutti de Mare, which came with some very large prawns.
She ordered a Bolognese dish.
Everything was great and with tip we came in at just under $100, which I think is totally acceptable for a great sunset enhanced dinner. -

My recent bachelorette weekend included an epic dinner at this restaurant - and I couldn't ask for a better dining experience in Door County. The food, service, and ambience were truly amazing, and I'd highly recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a fantastic dinner out in the area.
Our experience started with a very gracious host, who sat us quickly, and also agreed (with a smile) to snap a million or so pictures of our group. The dining room itself is decorated in muted tones, dark wood, dim lighting, with an easy, but still upscale feel. Our server, Jason, was friendly, funny, accommodating, and was just the right amount of attentive enough but did not hover. We started the meal with a delicious bottle of Chilean wine from their extensive wine list, then went to calamari appetizers and beet and brussel salad. My girlfriends and I were impressed from the get go - the calamari was flavorful and cooked perfectly, and the salad totally satisfied my veggie-loving side. On to the main course - beef tenderloin, whitefish in paper, halibut and ribeyes were ordered and thoroughly enjoyed (let's just say we didn't leave much room for much else). Everything was cooked exactly right, and presented artfully on the plate. All while being visited by friendly strangers who stopped to say hello.
On to dessert, my favorite part of every meal. All I can say is, wow - we managed to make the room in our stomachs and finished the chocolate truffle cake and Heath Bar dessert like vultures.
The experience at this restaurant is about as close to perfect as you can get. I'll gladly make my way here when I'm in the area. -

Food was very good but I feel the service was just average. Waterfront could also improve on the small details like having real menus instead of just paper. I feel like with some small adjustments this place would be 5-stars worthy. The view is excellent.

My fiance and I splurged here on our last night in Door County, and The Waterfront is fantastic. Great food, great decor, and a great view, especially at sunset. My jalapeno corn chowder was the best chowder I've ever had, and the cioppino had everything in the sea - shrimp, scallops, escolar (buttery and grilled to perfection), andouille sausage. The saffron rice aioli topping it tasted like ecstasy. Everything was cooked to perfection, and nothing was overwhelming. The quality ingredients, cooked simply, spoke for themselves. Our waiter was helpful and friendly, and it was a great fine dining experience without any of the pretentiousness.

We live in Madison but are up in this area at least once a month. We try to visit the Waterfront whenever we are here. The consistency of this place is incredible. The chef's creativity and attention to detail shows on every plate. There are simply no losers on the menu. Try coming on Tapas night (Weds) or handmade pasta night (Thurs) for something special. Great, long-term staff will greet you with warmth and sincerity. The Waterfront is a shining light in Door County.

This place... IS AMAZING. This is not really one of my normal reviews because I have been here only once, but that all it took to win me over... This place is literally a 5 star restaurant and should be rated as such. Has a gorgeous view of the lake and I will upload some pictures later of the sunset we saw! I went here with my buddy and his family and his generous and hospitable grand parents treated me to dinner here! It is VERY expensive but also worth the prices the food was absolutely delicious and made-to-order by the chef. He made a special steak for my buddies grandpa. If anyone ever gets the chance to go here... GO... it is amazing

To find this gem in Door County is a treasure. If you want five-star dining in a beautiful, welcoming setting, then head to Waterfront. It is by far Door Co.'s best restaurant. Make reservations for sunset and enjoy the amazing view from the restaurant's many floor to ceiling windows. We started with salads (the Wedge and Greens). Both were perfect. For entrees we highly recommend the Grilled Tenderloin or Salmon special. They both ranked as the best we've ever eaten. An enjoyable surprise was the dessert. Try the Heath Ice Cream Bar for an unexpected, and completely mind-blowing, treat. We will be dreaming about that dessert for years! The only drawback is that the restaurant is closed on Mondays and we wanted to go back for seconds!

Great setting....beautiful view of the sunset. We got to our reservation early so we could enjoy a drink on the patio and watch the sun set. My husband had the tenderloin filet and is still talking about it. Good service..nice place for a fancy dinner.

Absolutely five stars in all aspects...the service was great, the sunset was gorgeous...and the food...OMG! We were there on a Thursday and did the $25 3-course pasta tasting menu. It was to die for. We both started with the caesar salad, and then I had the crab tortellini and the pappardelle bolognese. Husband also had the crab and then some braised short rib gnocchi which was really unique. The "heath bar ice cream" dessert was one of the best desserts I've ever had. Definitely check this place out for a romantic dining experience. It was wonderful!

My husband and I had dinner at The Waterfront for our anniversary. It was perfection. The atmosphere is rich and lovely. We had a great view of the sunset. The owner bought us a glass of champagne because she said that we were the first reservation of the season. They have a huge wine list. The service was excellent. I (like Kai Z) had the jalapeno corn chowder and it was delicious. I wanted to lick the bowl, but refrained. They also serve warm bread with olive oil infused with rosemary and thyme. I shared the tenderloin with my husband, he said that it was the tenderest and probably best cut of meat that he had tasted in his entire life. The dessert of chocolate truffle cake was heaven on your tongue. I had to close my eyes while eating it. It is a very fancy place with excellent food. Plan to spend $150 for two.
