I'm not vegetarian and I think this is the first All-Vegetarian restaurant I'd ever been to. I was visiting some friends in Denver at the time and my friend *M* took me here for breakfast.
To be honest, I don't even remember what I had. What I DO remember however, is that this restaurant left such an impression on me that it's the first place that I want to visit whenever I am in Denver. - which is usually about once or twice a year.
A fantastic vegetarian restaurant with lots of meat substitutes and great coffee. Big thumbs up for their breakfasts!
I recommend it to any and everyone I know who have plans to go to Denver for whatever reason and if they're vegetarian or not.
Highly recommended!
WaterCourse is my all-time favorite restaurant in the history of restaurants, so my five-star review is a bit biased in that I'd let a few service faux pas and oversalting incidents slide. Seriously though, just a few in the literally hundreds of times I've been there (my mom used to drive me to the 13th and Sherman location ten years ago) drives the average up to five stars.
My favorites:
Amsterdam hash with tofu and gravy
Mashed potatoes and mushroom gravy
Tempeh scallopini
The Grinder
Boston Cream Pie Cake
Sweet potato cinnamon rolls
Chai (I think they use Bhakti?)
The Dickens salad (onion rings and fried seitan on a salad, are you freaking kidding me?)
Tomato coconut curry soup
The Dona Lee
Buffalo seitan wings (but only if I'm not burnt out on them, which I've done)
I've never really perused their Mexican offerings as there are better places to get Mexican. But their "comfort foods" they do perfectly. Having not eaten gravy with meat stock for ten years, their gravy does the trick for a former childhood gravy-aholic.
Also, there is the common misconception that vegetarian = health food. While getting something low on the fats and calories is achievable here, their tastiest things are achieved like most tasty things are: the addition of sweet, sweet fat and carbs. They have sugar, earth balance butter, and deep fryers and they are not afraid to use them. WaterCourse bridges the gap between vegetarian and comfort food and for that, I'll be a forever consumer.
Okay what can I say? This place rocks! The food was delicious and super healthy! My kind of meal. Organic, fresh and good for my soul!
Its a funny story how I found this place. I was on the phone with my friend (whom I took to this marvelous place for her bday) and said hey you know I just love those healthy veggie restuarants they have in Boulder...they have to have something in Denver like that. So I jump online while talking to my friend and bam! I find Watercourse Foods, I start reading about the restaurant and it completely fit the description of what we were looking for. So yay it was ment to be!
We headed over there for lunch and let me tell ya, it was packed in that restuarant. We had to wait about 20mins, but it was totally worth the wait.
They have quinoa salad, wraps, pasta, burritos etc. Oh and tempeh (wait a minute, did I spell that right? hehe), which was pretty good! Oh and I got a glass of freshly squeezed OJ-bomb diggady!
The service was excellent! I highly reccommend this place!!! Yes I really do!
I'm not a vegetarian, but might make the switch after eating here- ok, well maybe not, but the food was awesome.
Very unique menu and they have a neat take on traditional carnivorous entrees - such as buffalo wings (totally worth a try - texture is awesome) and Scallopini (gravy is delicious).
Make sure you try a kombucha tea also. yummy.
Latte? Yum.. There's not much I adore more than a big, pretty latte.
Service? Eh.
NYC scramble with sweet potato home fries? Tasty..
Whole wheat toast, homemade? Yes, baby.. yes! So damn good I bought a loaf to take home.. only available if you ask and if extra loaves are laying around. And just 5 bucks!
Peanut butter cookie? Fo sho! I bought one to share with my mom.. but, I was a bit selfish and only shared a bite..
Menu? Fresh salads, french toast, wraps, sandys and smoothies. I can't wait for my return visit..
But it was hot in there.. stuffy hot.. hard-to-breathe hot. Perhaps just a one off happening.. or maybe it's a good temp for the tofu..
Finally made it here for breakfast! Of COURSE it was awesome. How could it not be? Started with an almond milk hot cocoa...so so good.
I love biscuits & gravy but they're soooo bad for you. I'd read that the vegan offering at Watercourse was good so I gave it a shot and was not disappointed. The biscuits were a tad bit crunchy for my taste but still really good with flecks of carrot and zucchini in them and smothered with this amazing savory gravy. I wouldn't say it's comparable to the standard but these are great! I will definitely have them again.

I've come to the conclusion that restaurants that try to make their food vegetarian, as opposed to making food that happens to be vegetarian, are not good. I'm an omnivore; my wife is a vegetarian. My meat-wannabe fajitas plate was not good. Her vegetarian pasta plate was not good, either.
They seem to lose out on both ends. Meat eaters would rather have the real thing. True vegetarians will find fake meat unappealing. And the food that's vegetarian isn't even good. We'd rather go to a good Italian or Indian restaurant for good vegetarian food.
We tried a couple of similarly themed restaurants in SoCal and those weren't good, either. I may check out this place again for breakfast (which I didn't try), but definitely not for lunch or dinner.
My wife and I were passing through Denver, and Happy Cows suggested this place. Lovely.
Friday night at 7:15 there was about a 40 minute wait (that was after circling the neighbourhood for a while.) I had a great vegan shake. The veganized seitan parm was kinda bland though. No melty fake cheese here? My wife's country-fried seitan was yum. Giant portions. The breakfast menu looked great, so...
On Sunday we were passing back through town and stopped in for breakfast. At 9:00 we were sat immediately after parking right out front. Great biscuits and gravy. 1/2 portion would have been fine. Yummy cinnamon roll. Wife loved her peasant sandwich as well.
I'll make a point to stop by when I cruise through town next time as well. My only complaint is that the menu says "Everything Can Be Made Vegan" but you have no idea what is vegan and what will be modified from ideal to become vegan.
Best vegetarian food in Denver, and one of the best I've ever been to. By far my favorite restaurant in the metro area. A must try for herbivores and omnivores alike.
Everything on the menu is quite good, though the pasta dishes are only above average when compared to some of the other choices. Everything else is quite amazing... I can never decide what to get. Breakfast is also great, especially the pancakes and scrambled tofu. I have had nearly everything on the menu at least once, and can't complain about anything. The veggie burger bbq style is the best I've ever had. The desserts from the watercourse bakery are... incredible. Words cannot explain. The 100% vegan desserts easily outshine most non-vegan versions. The coconut cream pie is ridiculous! Save room for dessert. Also, anything on the menu can be made vegan without getting crazy looks from the wait staff.
Among the drawbacks are the popularity, which during busy breakfast and dinner times can mean a wait of 30+ min for a table. The small waiting space can be a pain in such situations. The drink prices are all very high, especially the alcohol. The beer prices outside of happy hour are way too high, at least $1-3 higher per glass than most places for the same products. I refuse to pay $6 for a $1.50 beer. Service can also be very slow and impersonal. This place desperately needs more waiters/waitresses.
Good food. Decent price and unfortunately sometimes a wait(especially over the weekend)
if you come across the wait and dont wanna do such a thing, i recommend grabbing some sesame tofu over at Peter's Chinese on 12th and Elizabeth. Probably my favorite vegetarian meal in the entire city!
Exceptional vegetarian food in Denver. I attended with a large group in town for music. The place seemed very clean. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Pricing seemed acceptable. Good beer on tap.
It was extremely busy when we visited, we had to wait on a table. I think that the concerts in town had brought a surprise rush for the weekend. Our food was delivered in 45 minutes. One order was incorrect, and we didn't have the time to have it fixed.
Still, one of the better vegetarian restaurants I've visited. Look forward to trying it again.
Lately I'm all about the Blue Plate Special. If you go before 11am on weekdays, you can get the blue plate and coffee for $5.
You can pick eggs or tofu, type of bread, gravy or green chili and potatoes.
I get mine with: Tofu scrambles, a biscuit, gravy, and sweet potato home fries.

After a few bad experiences, I think I've finally become a true believer in this joint.
We came in with a http://Restaurant.com gift certificate, so we got to eat to our hearts content -- which wasn't very much considering their food is super filling.
We first ordered an app, the basket of fries, and it was the least tasty part of the meal. The fries were mealy, greasy and super thin. I was hungry and the ranch was pleasant, so my sister and I plowed through.
My sister wound up ordering a Seitan wrap w/ sweet potato niblets and broccoli. The wheat wrap was super tasty and I think she'd believe the meal was well worth 10 bucks.
I went with some breakfast - the Amsterdam Hash. It was basically a tofu scramble with gravy tossed on top. It also came with the most amazing biscuit. So wonderful and filling. (about 8 something)
Because of our certificate, we were able to nab some desserts. A carrot cake and a piece of boston cream pie cake. Both were so-so.
This place is a trek to get to, but if you're a vegan it sure beats the hell out of eating beans and noodles all the time.
Plus, the atmosphere is laid back. chill, and everyone is super friendly.
Ate here last night for the fourth time. Each time I have tried something different, and each time I am disappointed with how bland and grainy everything is. While Watercourse offers endless unique vegetarian/vegan options (not just tofu or veggies), they could really bump up the flavor. On the other hand, their famous seitan buffalo "wings" are knock-out flavorful, but mostly due to the spicy, vinegar sauce. I still enjoy these and would recommend them, but I can only eat 3-4 before my taste buds are tainted for the evening.
On the other hand, this place has the most delicious gourmet onion rings I have ever tasted! I recommend a basket with some chipotle ranch, yum! Oh, and top it off with a slice of Boston Cream Pie! omg.
It's true, the consistency and service are a real problem here. I was there a week ago, and the service was pretty bad, but not a game breaker. They do need to hire more people. They screwed up my order, and I sent it back. It tasted okay but I had a weird feeling about it, as if it wasn't going to go down well. Sure enough, I got a minor bout of food poisoning, very bad runs. I wondered if some disgruntled cook took liberties with my food. The staff morale looks low, and so I wouldn't doubt it.
I had one other bad experience there. The owner/manager came out and tried to convince me that my shitty food was actually very good. We haggled, and he said he would give me a 30% discount which I thought was really lame. So, in sum, it's pretty hit or miss. When they hit, it's actually really good, but I wouldn't be quite as enthusiastic about it as some of the other disciples/reviewers unless I'd never eaten anywhere else except Denver, which lacks very many quality breakfast choices(dinner an lunch for that matter too)
Two visits in three days. I am sold. What is a girl to do when the Nazi doctor orders no meat or salt for a week? Curl up in the fetal position and wail like a newborn or stake out WaterCourse Foods? You can guess which one I selected.
Fresh, healthy, innovative and fantastic. Whatever you do, try the gravy, just ask for a side. Resist the urge to strip off all your clothes and rub yourself with this gem - four ingredients, soy butter, flour, pepper, and fennel. You will never, ever guess there is nothing bad in there.
One star off for a dirty bathroom with no soap at 10:45 in the morning and lipstick on my buddies glass. She wasn't wearing any. And the noise level is pretty high.
One star back because the servers are all just as cute and sweet as can be. Lipstick glass was replaced promplty with a sincere apology. I also had a serious girl crush on both visits. What is it about the combination of freshly inked tattoos and gingham dresses?
Even after I get the doctor off my stressed out back, I will be coming here for more!
Okay, so Watercourse... I know its a veggie place... I know they don't serve meat... I know I am supposed to revel in the meatless joy of tofu and tempeh etc...
But, eh. I think if you are a vegetarian or vegan than you would enjoy the variety that Watercourse offers but...
Look, if you are a meat eater, the "buffalo" "chicken" sandwich or "chicken" "caesar" salad isn't going to taste right. Everything was just off. Even the (I am sure, vegan) dressing on my salad didn't taste right.
Okay, maybe I am not a super adventurous eater and I DEFINITELY love my meat but I was just not impressed with the taste of anything I ate.
I will say that the cutie little, pre-prohibition style beer was fab though. However, $12 for an organic beer is a bit silly.
I am definitely on middle ground here. If you want to entertain vegan friends, go here. If you are looking for a hearty dinner... Go to Hamburger Mary's or Stuben's.
I schedule a stop at WaterCourse foods every time I visit Denver.
Every day they make a daily special vegan ice cream, using coconut milk. Every day they have a special milkshake made from this special ice cream.
This has earned WaterCourse a very, very, very special place in my heart (I am a lifelong milkshake addict who only recently discovered a milk allergy).
The rest of the menu is also excellent. Everything is always delicious.
1. The blue plate special ($5 for breakfast) is awful. Rubbery uncooked potatoes, slopped eggs, bad toast.
2. To get coffee with said special, it's an extra $2.50. Say what?
3. The service has been consistently bad.
It's disappointing- the minute I've told people I'm a vegetarian and new to Denver, they're all hopped up on this place.
But seriously, new Denverites, skip this place. Make your own breakfast and save yourself $5 for beer later.
I am upgrading to a 3.5 star review.
I went to WaterCourse after a long work out with my girlie friends for salads and a beer. My salad was soooo delicious I almost forgot it was a salad. I still love that they have local beers. We also split a slice of carrot cake holy jebus was that stuff to die for!
Sadly, this is the first time I have liked my entire meal... I wish it was this way everytime I visited!

I've been a vegetarian for 13 years and I have to tell you... this place is really hit or miss. I… Read more »
I love the Amsterdam Hash. I keep coming back to Watercourse for it. If you go to Watercourse, be prepared to WAIT. Wait in line for a table. Wait at your table for a waiter or waitress to bring placesettings and menus. Wait for the waiter or waitress to return to take your order, and then wait some more for your food. They are always slammed. However, it is one of the few only true vegetarian/vegan restaurants in town, so I put up with it. But I also don't dine there more than twice a year anymore, because it is such a hassle to eat there. And, their prices have increased in the last few years to the point of being spendy and questionable.
They do have a kids menu, although it is expensive and the portions are small. They do try, though, which is more than I can say for Snooze. I would not recommend bringing kids unless yours can occupy themselves for long periods of time and are good at waiting. Most kids I know are not able to do that well.
I think Watercourse rests too much on their laurels. I guess when you have a monopoly, you can do that, but I feel they've gotten too comfortable.
I would like to see them change their menu up a bit and try some new offerings. So many other major cities (NYC, SF, Chicago, L.A.), etc. have fabulous vegetarian restaurants with great offerings. It would be nice if Denver had a few more. That might be the motivation WF needs to get out of their comfort zone.
Bottom line: the flavors are awesome, and the people watching situation is PRIME.
I always get the Juan Wrap, and it NEVER disappoints. The cilantro-pistachio pesto with the sweet potato is divine, and I *always* get the Tomato Coconut Curry soup...I find I crave this soup quite often.
You will be pleasantly surprised by the Reuben...one of our favorites. You won't believe you're not eating meat...its THAT good.
We've also tried the veggie burger (blackened style), and it is also tasty. Be careful with the hot, green sauce on the table: delicious, but it definitely has kick! Make sure you have some water handy.
A favorite appetizer is the baked brie. If you're looking for a light dinner, you could even split this bad boy with someone before heading to a movie.
The Biscuits and Gravy dish doesn't have ANYTHING going for it aesthetically, but if you look past the brownish gloopy appearance, it tastes rather swell. My husband and I are NOT fans of the Seitan Buffalo Wings...they tasted like chewy cardboard dipped in hot sauce, but that was just us. I would leave the wings to the real deal, but I am a chicken wing snob.
Desserts are always a feast to the eye, but can sometimes taste a bit on the dry side.
I love the fact that they brew Pablo's Danger Monkey for their drip. I must say their latte's are DELICIOUS, and they have agave available for sweetener! Woohoo!
The Ginger Oogave Organic Fountain Soda RULES. If you like the taste of REAL ginger, this soda is a real treat (and helps calm the belly, to boot!).
Street parking, people. It gets busy on weekends, so you better work those parallel parking skills! Do yourself a favor and definitely make reservations.
Let me preface this review by saying I'm a meat eater to the core. I usually think that a meal's not really a meal unless there is meat involved. So going to a veggie place like Watercourse was definitely out of the norm for me.
I am so glad that I came here! First off, the restaurant is nicely decorated and bright and airy. There is also some seating outside for smaller parties.
I ordered the Juan wrap for my lunch. A whole-wheat tortilla with sweet potatoes, mozzarella, onions and cilantro pistachio pesto (I got mine sans mushrooms). It was delicious but I was expecting more flavor from the pesto. For my two sides I got the tomato coconut curry soup and quinoa salad. I have no complaints on either, in fact, I am completely in love with the soup that I had! However, I would imagine the quinoa to be a bit better tasting if it were served warm (but what do I know, since this is only the second time I've ever had it). The smoothies are also tasty-I recommend the Sunrise!
I did also try the seitan buffalo wings which were in one word..weird. But I'm a texture person so that's probably why I wasn't so keen on them.
I left feeling very satisfied and full, knowing I will be back here soon! It's nice to have something out of the ordinary once in awhile.
Lucky me... prior to setting up for the big Yelpapalooza event, I went to brunch with Tiffany C and Jay B. (We needed to fuel up for the big day!) They allowed me to put in my two cents on where we should go, and I voted for WaterCourse based on their Yelp reviews and the fact that their menu looked amazing!
Jay had the breakfast burrito. It looked phenomenal. Tiffany went with the Caesar Salad with seasoned seitan and an omelette with sweet potato hash. I tried the seitan (which I'd never heard of before) and really liked it.
After much deliberation on what I should order myself, I designed my own salad. I added a ton of ingredients including mixed veggies, tempeh, and a miso dressing. It hit the spot so much that I left too full to try those ho ho cupcakes even though they looked pretty amazing!
I guess there is always next visit for those.
While I'm not vegetarian, I do enjoy my veggies and replacing chicken, beef, fish, turkey, etc... with tofu, tempeh, and now seitan on occasion. I guarantee if WaterCourse opens in Phoenix, I'll be a regular customer but until then, I'll just have to eat vicariously through all of you Denver yelpers. Enjoy for me!
What is up with Whitey in this town? Is he allergic to jalapeno or something?
Here's yet another place that serves a salsa sans jalapeno. They could at least have the decency to call it something other than salsa so as to not confuse those of us who actually want salsa when we order salsa. Muddy tomato onion shit or just tomatoes and onions would both be more appropriately descriptive.
Otherwise, this place is pretty much what you would expect from a semi-vegetarian. hippy place in a gay neighborhood. The food is bland. The service is bad. The people eating around you are really annoying whining about everything that's wrong with America.
For God's sake, Bush isn't even President anymore, so STFU about him, ok? I'm starting to think that most of the hacky sack and Birkenstock crowd forgot how to talk about anything else over the past eight years.
There were some fairly nice boob jobs on some of the middle aged neighborhood female granolas who were dining there.(buttaface!) And, I will say that the price was reasonable. For those two attributes, I award this place one solid star.
Certainly not for the salsa.
Great vegan food. I had the equivalent of a French dip with Seitan (and cheese, negating the "vegan"). It came with two sides and was only $10 or so. Delicious.
I only give 3 stars here because it's a slightly stale atmosphere. Mess your hair up a little, WaterCourse, your foods great, so don't be so uptight about your look. The building it's in doesn't lend itself to looking anything but stale, it's kind of a "not supposed to be in this neighborhood" style building, with little to no character. I liked the animal paintings on the wall.
Enough about the aesthetic, just remember the food's good. I go to this raw food place in San Francisco where they get all hippy on you and ask you questions like "what are you grateful for today?" At least you don't get that crap at WaterCourse.
It might be 4 stars, but I won't get a chance to go back.
First of all i have to say i absolutely heart Denver. There is tons of good restaurants and this is one of them. My friend and I were happy with our meals. One of our dishes (some fajita) came with one tortilla and we asked for another one, they charged extra 1.75 for the other tortilla, not that it would brake anyone's bank, but not very friendly pricing for what should have been included in the meal. The place is busy so the service is a bit slow but not bad.
A vegetarian's paradise... No doubt...
The food is amazing and it is nice to know there is somewhere so close to me where my food preferences are not the minority...
I have to take a star away for the pretentious staff... The service isn't that great, and I guess I am not cool enough to be as well treated as the hipsters sitting at the table across from me.
The food and cupcakes will always keep me coming back, though!
Eh. This place was ok. It didn't live up to the hype -- ya know, the biased hype that came from 3 veggie loving people. And I like meat. I'd take steak & potatoes over a salad any day. So take this review for whatever it's worth...
My cousin picked this place as his birthday dinner choice; it's his fav. The menu looked interesting, so I put on my adventurous cap and went.
Watercourse leaves a glass bottle of water or two on each table, which is a nice touch. Although my adventurous cap was on, I still played it safe and ordered the Juan Wrap -- fresh sweet potatoes, onions and mozzarella wrapped up in a whole wheat tortilla. Everything was cooked and presented perfectly. My broccoli was crisp, not mushy. And the food came out steaming hot. My brother ordered the seitan parm. It tasted fine. Pretty spot on with actual chicken parm, but I could not get over the texture. Sponge-y? No thank you! We passed on dessert because I made some homemade chocolate cupcakes, but I would like to go back simply to taste a few of them!
Anyway, the restaurant itself is LOUD. If you are looking for a quiet get together, this is not the place to go. And the server we had seemed a little off his rocker. But I attribute that to the venue and the clientele it pulls in...
Watercourse's "following" comes down to one element: Market niche. And if I may be so bold: Overrated.
There. I said it. As a proud vegetarian (we're here, we don't eat steer, we're not going any...wheer?), I feel like I can make such a claim. Of course, I'm fully prepared to back it up. Check it:
Even when I lived in Cap Hill, my visits to Watercourse were occasional at best. And they were usually for breakfast (props to the Amsterdam Hash--hooray for gravy). The lunch and dinner items just didn't do much for me, and mainly because I can do them myself, for the same price, only more end product. Tootin' my own culinary horn here, sure, but I've made a good portion of their menu in my own kitchen (maybe not to the exact taste standards, but still good [if not better in some cases]), which is why most of my veggie-loving being usually refuses to pay $12 for an entree at this place.
Maybe they're working on evening out the expense of the lease (or sale price?) of the space on 17th ave. And yeah, it's come a long way from where it was formerly (now City o' City), but I guess I'm just too cynical to really feel I'm getting my money's worth. Plus, the food, it's good, but it's not amazing. It's just all that there is. Take a trip to Los Angeles; eat at Real Food Daily. Hell buy the cookbook and recreate some of their recipes, and your eyes (and taste buds) will be opened.
Watercourse seems to rely too heavily on fryer oil and salt. They've mastered the craft of turning what could be lively vegetarian fare into nothing more than glorified meatless bar food with several items on their menu. And the fries? Uck. Fresh-cut, sure, but soggy and dripping in grease every time I've ordered them. Thou art not above frozen should it result in a crispier fry.
Am I saying I won't ever eat there again? No. Sometimes a girl craves some vegetarian comfort food and is too lazy to make it herself. Am I saying it's the worst I've ever had? Definitely not. I'm just saying that I think they're slightly overrated and overpriced (grant quality ingredients are pricier, but their items have stayed mostly the same but increased in price). And if even just *one* other vegetarian restaurant opened up in a central Denver location they could make it. Watercourse would still be the granddaddy of veg restaurants in D-Town, but no longer the Highlander (there can only be one!).
-Tasty, interesting food, vegetarian or not
-clean, nice, if almost sterile and slightly cafeteria-like ambiance. As if theyre trying hard not to fit the kind of hippy vegan culture.
-exact opposite vibe as city o'city, but almost the same food.
I really like this place, the seitan buffalo wings are awesome, the atmosphere is alright. Agreed; good people watching.
Two problems though (not major):
1. the fixy syndicate dine here, how can they afford it?
2. there's a picture of rodents on the wall, that's kinda gross.
Either way, I'll keep taking veggie visitors here and they'll always like it.
Excellent. As a visitor to Denver, this restaurant came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. I had their special: grilled jerk tempeh with coconut red rice and butternut squash sauce, with the buffalo seitan "wings" as a starter. The wings were great (yes, they're greasy, but what are people expecting from fried bar food?), with just the right amount of heat. The tempeh was a little bland, but had great texture and was pretty tasty. I was happy with it, but I probably wouldn't get it again.
Service was awesome, waitstaff was friendly, and the desserts looked great. Watercourse isn't gourmet food, but for around $50 you can easily get dinner for two with an appetizer and drinks. Omnivores can enjoy this place as much as anyone else.
Lost one star for the bland tempeh and because their outside seating was inexplicably closed on a beautiful evening. But I'll be back.
This vegetarian stalwart has infinitely upgraded to cater to this yuppies heart by changing locales. I went with my girlfriend for a super relaxed lazy Friday lunch, ending up sharing a bottle of wine and one egg and one thai peanut savory dish.
I'm a scramble person and this veggie delight did not disappoint. There is nothing bland or overly healthy about my eggy tasty treat (which I personally appreciate...read Cafe Gratitude in SF). Savory, fluffy eggs, with salty feta and sauteed vegetables.
The peanut saute was also flavorful and filling. I am now sorry I did not save room for the desserts, because they actually looked appealing. I am not a vegetarian hater, but I tend to lean heavily on the meat side of the fence, but Watercourse is coool by me!
I am a die-hard Watercourse fan, and have been for several years now. I can only think of one time (and I eat there a lot) where I've had a dish that was only mediocre. I just love that there is somewhere to go out to eat where you know that you are getting good, nutritious food with mostly organic ingredients.
As a side note, my boyfriend is a big time carnivore, and Watercourse is still one of his favorite restaurants in Denver - so this place isn't just for vegetarians!
So I've never had a problem with eating vegetarian.. all the protein substitutes there, no problem with the texture or anything. but it was a little unnecessary to put 20 gm of salt onto the food. and if you thought ppl in line at starbucks were particular, I think it's about 10x worse here.
Well this isn't a terribly original review, as it seems that we all love it, but I do feel the need to say that if I'm feeling particularly lazy and not getting out of bed in the morning-the knowledge that Watercourse Blue Plate special, which includes toast, eggs/tofu, potatoes, chili/gravy/salsa, and coffee for only $5 ends at 11am does the trick for me.
This has become my default breakfast spot as it is super delicious and extremely inexpensive. The rest of the food is outstanding as well and they have some of the best deserts in Denver.
I love Watercourse. I love that they now have a place at 17th & Market too - its located in the same space with the Aveda Academy. It isn't big like the mothership restaurant, buttttt they have great stuff. The blackened tofu wrap is sooo delicious. While I'm not a huge fan of their healthy beverages, I'm fine with some refreshing water.
Oh and they have the little mini cupcakes (I have fetish for the hoho cupcakes). Plus they are vegan.
Denver is lucky to have Watercourse and the Watercourse Cafe!
seems to be getting better and better

i like what this place stands for but both kitchen and service are just average.
It tries pretty hard to make tofu and other "meat substitutes" taste delicious, but I've definitely had better at a vegetarian restaurant.
I couldn't get past the gristle-like texture of the Buffalo "wings." Plus, the ranch dressing was watery, so that didn't help the appetizer's case. The baked brie plate, however, was quite delicious. (I know -- how can you mess brie up?)
For dinner I had the Buffalo sandwich, which was probably a mistake. Other people at my table had something from the pasta side of the menu and were happier. The breading wouldn't stay on my tofu slab, my fries were lukewarm when they arrived, and the broccoli wasn't completely steamed. Good thing I'd eaten some cereal before going!
I don't think I'm willing to try this restaurant again just because there are so many others I haven't tried. Sorry, WC.
