The Water Bus is the best spend of $1 that I have come across lately!! With 7 stops through MDR, it takes you across the water to restaurants and bars so you don't have to drive and deal with valet parking.
The buses (pontoon boats) seat up to only 24 people. At each docking point (see websites for the locations) you pay your $1 to the attendant. Have singles handy as at many of the stops they don't have change.
We happened to get the same captain on each of our legs of our trip. Captain Sean was excellent. He takes his job seriously but that didn't get in the way of his good humor. He wanted us to have a good time, safely (hey, you ARE on the water remember).
That said, all of the captains have to go through the rigorous Coast Guard captains training and exams. The boats are all pretty brand new and not scary (rocking back and forth, etc.).
I do have to say that one of the attendants, George, at our embarkation point was a real tool. Not only was he extremely rude to the head of our group, he was unprofessional and really took his job too seriously. Seriously? Dude, you're only a lowly volunteer for a subsidized transportation. Get a life.
This is one of the best deals in town! For $1, you can ride around the marina on a cool little boat, see all the sights, get off and see a concert, or have a drink or a bite to eat. The only downside is that they no longer let you just go around the loop. You're forced to get off and then get back on the next boat, which might already be full.
If you park at Fisherman's Village, you get two hours of parking free with validation, which is enough time to have a quick bite and then tour around the marina on the boat.
This was the best cruise ever. $1 for an over-an-hour ride around the Marina. It was perfect weather. There were awesome boats in the harbor. There was a concert in the park to listen to live music. You do the wave that boaters do to other boaters.
It's a great way to sober up after getting bombed at El Torito's happy hour. For a buck.

Come drunkards. You get to ride around the Marina for $1. Under low supervision.
There are 7 stops around the marina, so you can either ride it around the whole marina for fun, or you can get off at a stop and eat, drink, have fun on the beach, and be merry.
Stops off at: fisherman's village, burton chace park, waterfront walk, mothers beach, dolphin marina, esprit 1, and the marina harbor. It's not the calmest ride on a windy day, and there are a decent amount of old people and children, so hopefully you aren't looking for a romantic $1 ride to take your date on. It's fun, it's jolly, it's a family event.
