My perception on the price is skewed as I am comparing to fancy restaurants in manhattan. I thought the price was decent(not cheap but certainly not expensive) for a fancy restaurant.  The portions were small but appropriate if you have a 3 course lineup(appetizer, entree, dessert).
The grilled clams are amazing. A bit spicy and smokey served on top of (inedible display of) charred rocksalt and wood chips. Delicious.

    Well Where to start....

A large group of us 10 to be exact went to Water street last summer, summer of 2010  it was amazing we loved it.  We were so excited to return this year for another amazing meal.
    Boy where we wrong.
First there is a new CHEF
who's food is sub par to say the least.  I actually could not chew the grilled artichokes.  Had to spit them out and send them back.
    Service in general was poor.
Server ranted that the striped bass was delicous,  little did we know that of the 7 of us, 4 people ordered it and when it was served the portions  were at most 3 ounces and only  1/2 inch thick. (roughly $12/ ounce) We were served burnt shrimp, over cooked mussels, that could have made someone sick if they did not know not to eat them.
With that said we will not be returing to Water St any time soon.

As this post makes you put a star we did not want to as our disappointment still settles.
Good luck if you decide to go.

Formerly Coach House, Water Street is the restaurant in the established Harbor View Hotel featuring a new chef. Excellent service. The sommelier Jules harks from NYC's acclaimed Picholine and summers in the Vineyard to work at Water Street. He recommended a lovely Spanish white wine, the name escapes me but it was Vin de something. The local Menemsha oysters on the halfshell were so fresh and had a clean finish. Came with mignonette and cocktail sauce. One of us had the tenderloin, another had the grilled scallops and the rest of us had the $38 Water St lobster special which was like your own personal clam bake including a boiled 1 lb lobster, clams, mussels, corn, potato and dessert which was a strawberry shortcake.

Way over priced and the portions are small.  My wife and I both left hungry.  The staff was sloppy looking and messy.  The food tasted good,  but very small portions.  I will never come here again for a meal.  It still hurts thinking that I paid &85+ bucks for below pair service and noisy atmosphere.  A real diner setting.   You would do better at sea food shanty!  Water street should be ashamed if it's trying to pass for fine dining.  5/28/2011

We stayed at the Harbor View for a few days in September.  It was right after labor day so far fewer people. The Water Street restaurant is in a great location, right across from the Edgartown Lighthouse. Lots of windows so nice views of the harbor, very nice atmosphere. The food was delicious. We decided to get split 5 or so small plates. Among the ones we tried were the scallops, little necks, gnocchi.  All very good.  Especially the scallops. The only dish that was not stellar was the crispy pork. It was not crispy enough and really dry. Not great.  Other than that, the food was very good. The service was pretty good.  i would definitely return.
