I stopped renting here a while back because I got a job at a video store, and started receiving free rentals. Then I moved away. How I miss Watch This and its coziness.
It isn't your average video shop, much more like a cafe, minus the coffee and tea, but with films instead. The owners are nice, they have nice photographs and even have a Bonjour Tristesse affiche. And a decent foreign section for the size of the shop.
I have a soft spot in my heart for shops like these. They make me miss Portland.

I miss this little place. I used to live within walking distance. Now that I don't, I can't seem to make it over there cause parking sucks so bad.
It is really small, but the people that own it and work there are super friendly. They like movies. A lot. It makes me want to like movies a lot.
You won't find the uber blockbuster like at Hollywood (for that matter, you won't find the psuedo porn either) here. You'll get classics and rare for sure. If you live in the neighborhood and/or are a film freak, then get a punch card. Its been a while, but they used to have them.

Looking for an alternative to the Hollywood Video right across the street from us, for some harder-to-find titles... We told the kid behind the counter we were on a movie-watching theme and needed good movies with road/street/alley/boulevard in the title. He turned us on to 3 good ones including Sunset Boulevard and was super helpful throughout the visit. Tiny shop, but good variety. One wall is just movies categorized by director (how it should be!). The second time we went in the owner was working and he was just as friendly and helpful. Although we have to walk 7 or 8 blocks to get there (it's just east of Powell's), it's worth the trip. There's no parking, but that's not really a drawback for us. (I only wish they had more movies.)

I love everything about this lil shop. the director wall, the featured films, lloyd the movie expert. portland is lucky to have a place like this, the good old fashioned post-video store.
and if they don't have what you want, they are likely to order it for you - like Jazz on a Summers Day. oh la la.
