This place ain't NY, they will say with disdain
when they come from far places like Bah Habah, Maine
And it hasn't the glitz of of Los Angeles,
Get me back quickly, Mr. Cabbie Man,  please!
I can't make sense of this unmetered ride
what the hell is a "zone" and where went my pride?
Subdivisions of 'hoods all part of a ward,
and a home price so high I could never afford.
Government stiffs are a polyester tide
coming in droves  in their SUV ride,
for we've got half of Maryland, and North VA, too
crowded onto our streets from seven on through.
We're a city that sleeps, but uneasily at best
when we're mired in war and remembering the Blue Dress.
But despite all disparaging, we love our voteless home
and it brings us all back wherever we may roam
for the politics are mighty and industry strong,
and the guy in office won't be there for long.
Goodnight, fair city, with monuments soaring,
Ttry not to wake NY with your snuffulent snoring!

i miss you, dc.  so i listen to magnetic fields.

ben's chili bowl, amsterdam, black cat, u st, dupont circle, five guys, jumbo slice, metro, vietnam memorial, the mall, shakespeare theater, even adams morgan and georgetown.  not to mention maryland side (yay!) and to a much (much) smaller degree virginia side.
