Alright, with all due of respect i am sorry Washington Commons. If you go somewhere on the wrong night it can be the worst place ever. Since i wrote this review i have been back and it was pleasant.
Apparently i had a bad bartender that night because since then i have only had nice ones who are knowledgeable.
Get a pinball machine and i'll be a regular.

Just so everyone knows.. The Green flash IPA is not $5 anymore which makes this place worthless..

This has become my go-to spot for happy hour in our neighborhood. The drinks are still pretty cheap and really good and the happy hour is nice and long.
I haven't gotten a buyback once since I started going, but I don't mind that much since a scrumptious craft beer can be had for only $3 during happy hour.
Now that it's been getting cooler, Bill and I often sit at one of the tables in the front and chat while occasionally glancing at whatever movie they have playing on mute. It's important to have something to look at, otherwise you wind up kind of staring at people. And suddenly you're a weirdo. No one wants that.

Finding a more perfect bar in a more perfect location would be tough. The crowd here is above average, garnering a mix of locals and friends. The patio area continues to find more and more warmth as they renovate and decorate, although the coming winter will not allow for its use for a few months.
The beer selections are always rotating, and the person doing the selecting seems to have good taste and an eye for what people might be interested to try. There is a good mix of high-quality standards and brews you have not tried before.
Monday through Friday happy hour until 8pm, now we just have to convince them to do the same on Saturday afternoons! I would definitely come more.
I really like the craft beer selection. Washington Ave is becoming quite a bar scene after years of nothing. Wash Commons feels like a good anchor for the mix of bars.
I meant to write about Washington Commons muchmuchmuchMUCH sooner than now, but well..you know what they say about good intentions. Anywho, I LOVE THIS BAR! This is what a neighborhood local should be ALL about----a cozy, inviting space (including an outdoor garden area), delicious Belgian and somewhat off-the-beaten-path beers (such as one of my faves-Smutty Nose Pumpkin Ale), and a great vibe all the way around. My kind of place. I'm so lucky I live just a few short blocks away. Expect to see me here wayyyyyyyyyy more in the coming months. Uh huh uh huh uh huhhhhhh!
Dear bar two blocks from my door,
Thank you for existing. Thank you for having a great beer list. Thank you for getting me hammered on 9% alcohol beers most other bars don't carry. Thank you for having $2 off beers until 8pm. Thank you for letting me bring in outside food and nom to my hearts content while trying to figure out what crazy movie is playing at the bar. Thank you for having awesome outdoor seating in the back when weather complies. Thank you for letting my friend bring his bike in so it's not outside in the rain. Thank you for being quiet enough I can what people sitting across from me are saying. Thank you for having friendly bartenders.
Love,
Laura
As most of you should already know by now, yesterday was the birthday of current reigning and defending Burger King of Brooklyn, multiple-time Yelp ROTD recipient, love of my life, and all-around handsome man, Kyle H.
I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of the location for several reasons: 1. It's not the TipTop. I just can't see why you would host any event at any other location. I later learned that the after party was to be held at the Tip. 2. It looked a little bougeousie and expensive. While it is bougeousie, it's relatively affordable during happy hour. 3. Washington Commons is in Prospect Heights. I have nothing positive to say concerning Prospect Heights.
I had been to Washington Commons once before, but spent the entire time bitching about hanging out at a bar other than the TipTop and didn't really give Washington Commons the chance it deserved. The beer selection is phenomenal and the bartenders are pretty good. The outdoor patio area is huge and absolutely lovely.
The happy hour is five hours long, but that's the only time I could really afford to drink there. After happy hour it's not really worth the price. Washington Commons also has one of the most non-diverse crowds I've ever seen in Brooklyn outside of Williamsburg or Park Slope.
All in all, it's a nice spot. We had a shit ton more fun at the TipTop later though.
What a great neighborhood bar!
The outdoor area is great and the happy hour is excellent. For a happy hour that actually has decent beer and liquor, it is hard to believe that it wasn't busier. We never had to wait to order or worry about finding seating outside. The bartender was very nice as well and incredibly attentive.
I will definitely be back to Washington Commons! I mean why wouldn't I go back to a bar that I could literally stumble home from in the wee hours of the morning.
Really great bar.
Cute bartenders (I could care less that they're straight - they're good lookin!), good tap selection, HUGE outdoor patio. A great place to hang and have a brew.
This area of Prospect Heights has an identity crisis. Its still the primarily West Indian enclave of choice for socially conscience folks who like to drink and admire dred locks. Its my neighborhood, and I'm loving it, one beer at a time.
Washington Commons managed to slip under my amorous radar. But with some diligence and a little help from a friend, I found Washington Commons waiting for me in the heather. We arrived just before opening and the bartender, a comely lass from Oregon, or something like that, let us in and we went down the list of microbrews one by one, on a Sunday afternoon.
This joint has a large back patio area, furnished with uncomfortable chairs and lots of sunshine. If I didn't have a girlfriend, I'd propose to Washington Commons. Really. Its got all the qualities I like a cheap thrill. Its trashy, but fun. Tasty and refined where it counts on the palette and always open for business.
Almost forgot I came here last week on my exploratory tour of Prospect Heights. This bar is serious about its beer. There are more than 15 types on draught and they rotate regularly. There are a few I've never heard of, and I drink a lot of beer. And they have Old Speckled Hen! Mmmm, so smooth on a hot summer night (even better on a cold night). The atmosphere here is very chill. If I lived in this hood, I'd probably spend a lot of time damaging my liver at the Commons.
One of the many, many reasons I want to move to this neighborhood. This is an excellent bar that boasts a really good variety of beers and a cheapy-cheap happy hour. Grab a pint and hit the patio on a nice day after work and you'll want to move in too. Need a roommate?
My current favorite bar in Prospect Heights. They have an amazing happy hour ($2 off from 3-8pm) on already cheap beers with a great selection on tap. Huge windows up front look out onto Washington for people watching. There are three different seating areas - the bar area up front, a table/chairs sit down area in the middle, and in the rear is a huge patio with tons of seating/tables and a few awnings to protect from the rain.
My favorite beers here have been the blueberry ale and the watermelon wheat. It's an excellent summer place to unwind.
Even on a Wednesday night, this place impresses me. Cheap brews- $5 Green Flash IPA beer- 7.5% alcohol- and quite tasty. Then I ordered my staple drink- vodka on the rocks with lime- ONLY a dollar more. Great service at the front bar. some tables up front and back as you walk towards the "garden" WAY back. You can't go wrong. Chill people. Great vibes. Great location. It really brings more life to the neighborhood. I'm from Queens and I'd definitely come all the way down here again.
Low key, good beers on tap (including Abita, Old Speckled Hen, Victory and a couple nice stouts) and the bartender was extremely friendly. Too bad it was pouring out; I'd love to check out the outdoor section. Next time for sure!
Cheap, mellow, not a lot of posers; great selection on tap, and don't miss Happy Hour til 8pm: $2 off any beer! Come here to chill...
the outdoor part was nice but the bugs were problematic. decent pint prices. considering i didn't see one white person in the 5 block walk from the subway to the bar, it was surprising to encounter a crowd of about 20 white people. maybe this is how brooklyn works, i'm not sure.
This place is a great, no frills joint with an extremely friendly staff, cool interior and outdoor area. The lady and I were driving by and happened to see it, stopping in for an impulse drink. The selection is nice and the mood is just right. We'll be back, and we'll bring the dogs.
Update: I went back two days after posting my first review for a quick beer after a bike ride. Silly me, right after the bartender poured me a beer, I realized I only had two bucks on me. I asked where the nearest ATM was, and she told me don't worry about it, enjoy my beer, and then go to the ATM afterward. I did just that, leaving the place without paying for my beer. I returned as soon as I pulled out some cash from the bank up the street, but as far as the bartender knew, I might never have come back. May their business be blessed with the same good karma that they showed me! I'll be back!

hit this up after seeing the writeup in the gothamist. we got there a little after 9 and it was still mellow. i got the green flash and my roomie got a g&t (due mostly to passover prevention of beer intake).
the bartender was super friendly and handed me a copy of the beer menu upon getting to the bar. the spot it chill with original store front windowed door. the music is pretty loud so you do need to shout a bit to be heard. front bar is nice and not crowded like most les bars at 11. there's a back section with more space and as michael s. mentioned a back patio. they are still working on it, but i can't wait for the unveiling this summer.
i'll be back for the happy hour 3-8pm with $2 off beers.
It's in my neighborhood, good beer, good crowd, outdoor area. I'm glad more of these are popping up! Good addition to Franklin Place and Abigail's..
David and I stumbled into this place one late night at around 3am...we saw a whole bunch of people standing on the street, one block from us near our Hatian Tailor shop-it peaked our interest. We walked up, and behold a NEW bar on Washington. Totally cute!! To be honest we had no Cash on us, and asked the bar tender if they accepted cards she said they just opened 4 hours ago! I really liked the vibe, low key no fancy crap just a place to gather, grab beer and relax. Going soon-it is after all a block away from me!
love this place. huge outdoor area in the back, lots of beers, indoor area has sparse and un-cramped tables. like being on the les (hope that doesn't have a bad connotation for any of you) but i can walk there from my apt. feels like winning
i was skeptical of the location and for good reason.. its a bunch of wanna be hipsters running a below average bar.. save yourself the trek and AVOID AVOID AVOID...
Washington Commons makes my life amazing. Other than a little black paint, the outside hasn't changed much since I first moved in down the block (the name of the bar is currently written on a chalkboard leaned up against the inside window), but the inside is gorgeous. A giant U-shaped bar, several tables, and a large outdoor area with tons of seating give it exactly the kind of atmosphere you want in your neighborhood bar. They had about 16 taps, and the bartender told me that at some point down the line they plan to have a kitchen and serve appetizers, though he assured me it wouldn't be anything high minded, just good ol' bar food. Prices are equivalent to the 4th Ave. Pub (same owners), between $5 and $8 depending on the beer. We're thrilled to have a place to hang out that's a little further into the Heights than Vanderbilt Ave. My only request is that none of you go there so that it can be my own personal neighborhood haunt.
I was here last week and its pretty much all I could as for in a good bar - good beer, a great happy hour special ($3 quality beers?!) that lasts until 8pm, and good music. No food, but happy to let people bring in food from outside. All together a welcome addition to the neighborhood.
