this place was a cool blues bar... when i went it happened to be the last night at that particular venue as they were moving locations.
it was packed for a saturday night. the home band was real cool and had a reggae/funk flare to them.
bartender was real nice. totally didn't mind giving me my cocktail side by side w/some tea [i was sick but still trying to party]. i even got some free drink passes from someone in one of the bands in the lineup that night. and took random pictures w/people who asked me to join them. haha. loner out of town girl at the bar makes friends.
I have to agree with Sarah L .... why oh why did you move. I've been to Warmdaddy's quite a few times and I must say the service is NEVER consistent . One day I went to Warmdaddy's with a group of friends on a humbug and we had a fabulous time. The food was phenomenal , the server was fabulous and the performer was amazing. I was so impressed I decided to take my mother to Warmdaddys for Mothers Day. A real estate purchase was easier than booking this Mother's Day reservation. We went online to make the reservation, you have to provide your credit card information to make the reservation, the site was incredibly slow and I couldn't confirm the site was a secured site so I called to make the reservation. When I called the person couldn't hear me because evidently the phone was located in the same area as the entertainment. So after being unable to hear the person answering the phone but quite clearly hearing a very loud songstress blaring in my ear I hung up and chose to fax the reservation (minus my credit card info ). My husband received a very rude unprofessional phone call from Warmdaddys demanding immediate payment or our reservation would be cancelled. My husband, my patient loving husband, never said a word about the phone call prior to him taking the payment to Warmdaddys.
Now it's mothers day. My mom is excited, my sisters drove to Philly from Maryland and Washington DC to celebrate this supposed fabulous mothers day brunch. First of all warmdaddys overbooked so we waited for out seats for 45 minutes pass our reservation time. We were then squeezed through the crowd and then squeezed into a booth much too small for our party size. Our waitress was a bit cranky due to her being responsible for basically 50% of the tables, most of the food was just edible nothing fabulous except the chicken and biscuit. (This was the best dish any of us ordered.) The entertainment was phenomenal, they had a 16 year old hgh schooler playing the saxophone . Omg this kid was amazing.
All in all I would give Warmdaddy's another chance, because I have had great food and service prior to Mother's Day but I would never celebrate another holiday at Warmdaddys
Love, Love, Absolutely Love this place. I went here with family they have a live jazz band. Warmdaddy's has a relaxing atmosphere where you can eat while listening to the live band in front of you. It gets extremely loud in there so it will take you a while for your ears to get used to the noise. If you order the Appetizer Sampler, it comes with fried shrimp, crab cake, fried scallops, fried clamp strips, and chicken tenders. They also serve collard greens, yams, and some great salmon. They have the most delicious cornbread I ever tasted. Tastes like cake almost its so sweet. This place is very popular in Philly so I recommend you make reservations ahead of time especially if you have a big party coming with you.
Ok Comedy on Monday Nights was soooo good. I had the appetizer sampler I posted a picture, more than enough food to share. We had no idea it was that big but it was delicious, especially the cat fish and corn bread. But get there early or make reservations for the shows because it gets packed and you end up paying to stand and watch a show. Great for the nice summer nights, and contrary to other peoples opinion, I like the new locations, more parking right by the movie theater, so you can get drinks before or after watching a movie and its right off the highway. I frequented this venue over the summer and have no complaints.
My trip to Warmdaddy's all started when I agreed to see Star Trek. Now, I am not a Trekkie; I'm not even interested in anything related to the, ahem, enterprise. So I asked my Trek-fan friends if they would agree to accompany me to a bar prior to the movie to get nice and toasty (I did this before seeing the horrific Must Love Dogs, and it worked quite well).
Since we were going to the UA on Columbus, we popped into Warmdaddy's. I was really surprised by how nice it was, as far as decor is concerned. The paintings are really fantastic, and with the lighting, live music, and other details, I can see how it could be a great date spot.
But then we waited for our server. And waited. And waited. We each ordered a drink: one wine, one beer, one iced tea. Maybe 10 minutes later, the wine and the beer came. The following conversation ensued:
Server (to Friend A): Your iced tea will be right out.
Friend B (having not heard Server): She also ordered an iced tea.
Server (irritated): I just told her it will be right out. (Storms off.)
About another 10 minutes later, Friend A leaves, never receiving her iced tea. As Friend B and I finish up our drinks, our server brings the iced tea. When he discovers she left, he gives us our check (which was nice and small, thanks to happy hour and the exclusion of a third drink).
Having only had time (given the caliber of the service) to have one drink, I saw Star Trek without even a buzz. It ended up working out though, because it was A LOT better than Must Love Dogs.
Went there some time ago and wasn't that impressed. Tables are close together, so waiters are constantly bumping in customers. At times, you must have a reservation. Food was alright. I had a cheesesteak which surprisingly wasn't that good. Too dry. The waiters were nice though. The set up is good too. Overall, it's ok.
Come for the music, not the food. I came with a large-ish group (we had a whole corner reserved) and it seems, like it's sister restaurant Zanzibar blue, that the menu choices for warmdaddy's are hit and miss. My companions who got the turkey chop were very happy, while I was stuck with what can be called a "glob" of honey fried chicken. The chicken was was bland and dry and the skin was sticky and not crisp and had nooooooo flavor. The sides were ok but forgettable.
The music however was good. And that should be the draw. Don't expect to talk, though, the sound system is way too loud for that
Why, oh why did you move? I used to frequent this spot when I lived in Philly. It was my favorite place to meet friends or go to relax after dinner. Well, I no longer live in Philly, and on a recent trip couldn't wait to go back and have a couple drinks & listen to the music. Imagine how surprised I was when my host started driving to Columbus. The summary of the situation was that there was nothing memorable about Warmdaddy's at the new location.
Should have known by the location (next to a movie theater) that it wouldn't be good. As soon as we got there, for my friends birthday, some members of our party mentioned a certain smell. We never figured out the source of the smell but it wasn't pleasant. The waiter was very nice. It was as if he was overcompensating for the bad food. The only thing that was decent was the fried shrimp. Even the music (live band) was nothing exciting. The whole dining experience was pretty soulless. Not worth the trek out to Columbus blvd. Go elsewhere for real soul food.
You definitely need to check out their Sunday brunch. Live music and a great menu makes for a perfect Sunday afternoon. I went to Warmdaddy's with my husband and father and we had such a great time. Our server was great, very attentive. I had their shrimp and grits for the first course, best I ever had. For my second course I had their sweet potato pancakes bannana foster. All I can say is YUM! I would definitely get them again. I think my dad and my husband would get them too, they couldn't stop eating mine. 5 stars all the way!
Music was not so good on the night that I ate here - in fact it sucked, it was a boring show on the tvs they had scattered through the restaurant, but my food was GREAT. I'm still dreaming about the tobacco-battered onions on the steak that I had here with mashed potatoes on the side, and I am not a big fan of onions either.
They moved and I haven't been to their new location by the UA Riverview, but I suggest you get the tobacco-onion dish if they still have it. And park under I-95 for free.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, and it's a very intimate set up. It was kind of empty considering it was December 26th, but I think they have like happy hour with a buffet, so it was crowded on the bar side. The food was really good, and I've never had any cornbread as good as theirs!!! The setting was very relaxing, music playing in the background, but a band was scheduled to come on later that night. The waitress we had was very nice, made sure we were taken care of. The drinks were perfect. Kind of pricy, but nothing too surprising. The spices & herbs used were perfect for the New Orleans Creole food we had. The menu is a mix of New Orleans & Soul Food, so you get the best of both worlds.
Sister Wanda's open mic performance with the band was amazing. The chicken and waffles...not so much. It was decent southern comfort food and this is definitely a place to go if you want to get your drink on and listen to some soulful grooves. The dim lighting gave it an urban speakeasy type feel that was actually kind of nice. The staff here was more than welcoming and were on top of things thoughout the whole night.
I'm not WILD for the place, but it's the only open blues jam I know of in the city. (There are plenty of jazz jams, and rock/pop open mics.) Also, I'm an eater. I like to eat. I like food in large quantities, and when my metabolism slows down in a few years, I'm probably going to be pretty obese---and I'm okay with that. I like Chinese buffets, and I love Warmdaddys' all you can eat baby-back ribs. They're pretty good for $10.95.
Awesome southern comfort food in the heart of Old City. The management here is great and they make you feel welcome. They have live blues music on the weekend and that helps make the atmosphere really chill. The food was excellent: chicken and waffles, gumbo, fried catfish, mashed potatoes, collard greens and candied yams. They also serve some strong mixed drinks, which are very, very good. The service was very attentive and accomodating, I highly recommend it for a fun night out.
I only ate here once, but I don't think I'll be coming back for seconds. It was a dinner and a movie (next to a ua theatre) outing, and the menu looked good to us. Well, the appetizer was unappealing to all the senses (texture, smell, looks of it, taste - all were pretty ill). I think our appetites were ruined by all the lil' rodent friends that came over to our table to say 'wassup.' Now we call the place Warm-mousey's. The fried chicken was pretty good, but like I said it's hard to enjoy your food when mice are scurrying around your feet. I understand that most places have vermin issues, but the service was treating the matter like it was no big thing. We were calm but the people at the table across from us was pretty irate. Our meal (for two) cost us like 70.00 for subpar food & service. If the restaurant was more accommodating to the needs of their customers (not that 'oh well' attitude) then I probably would've been more understanding of the matter.
this place is definitely better for the music and not the food. the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. it was just so so. the complimentary cornbread is ok and fresh and hot out of the oven. my shrimp po boy was just ok. the sweet potato fries are good but they replaced half with regular fries, a bummer. i would call warmdaddy's a blues venue with food, not a restaurant with live blues. it's quite loud when the music is on, so no, it's not a quiet and romantic place. service was so so.
