Wannamaker is a pretty cool place to go. I used to work there, but I was let go, because I made too much money as a part timer. That's water under the bridge though.

At any rate, it's a great place to go enjoy a lunch, have a wedding reception, go to the water park, go running, enjoy a nice stroll through all the paths, etc... I could go on, about why this is such a cool park. They have a ton of festivals and stuff out there during the summer months. Really cool paths that go down to the swamp, sometimes you see deer, giant woodpeckers, gators, snakes, and other cool wildlife. Just beware though. Sometimes, you might happen upon a couple doing some "heavy petting" around the backside of the park. Working there, we caught several folks doing the deed. I'm sure that's a problem at a lot of big parks though.

I can't actually speak to most of the park, because I've only been to the waterpark there, but that alone makes the park worthwhile.  There are - at last count, anyway - three waterparks in the Charleston area at their county parks, and that's really cool.

In Charlotte, you have to go somewhere like Carowinds (or in the future, to the Great Wolf Lodge), but in Charleston, where you could also go to the beach, you can just go to the County Park.  How cool is that?

Just go in, grab a chair, or if you have kids, there are kid sections, or they even have waterslides.  There used to be waterslides everywhere in Charleston, but now that they aren't, you have choices, and Wannamaker is as good a place as any.

I absolutely love Wannamaker Park.  If the temp is above 60 I'll be here pushing the stroller on their paved nature trail that goes through the woods, it's beautiful!  I've also felt really safe here, there are alot of runners and walkers so you get times alone on the trail but also run into friendly faces.
The park also has a dog park, which would be the number one reason to go if they turned the pond for the dogs into a pond rather than a mudhole, but they're working on it.  There are two playgrounds, bike, kayak, and paddle boat rentals, and volleyball courts.  The park also has shelters for rent.

The bathrooms are always open and CLEAN!!

The annual membership per person $15 or $55 per car.  The daily rate is $1.  Well worth it, my best find in North Charleston!
