The food rocks. Avoid weekend mornings as you'll be waiting for a while.
The apple pancake is amazing, the bacon is thick slab bacon that never disappoints, the coffee is great and the hash browns are the real version of Waffle house (you can get onions and cheese!)
This place is a staple, and has never let me down!
After I told my little sister I ate here, she was like, "Oh, that's where Cady Heron gets two tickets to as at Spring Fling queen!" How does a girl who lives in California remember such random details from a movie like Mean Girls? Next, she'll probably ask if I've been to Old Orchard, and I'll have to tell her the movie is wrong, and it's actually an outdoor mall, not an indoor one...
But anyway... when my two friends and I arrived here at noon on a Saturday (not my idea), there was a line of about 25 people going out the door and extending into the parking lot. Great. This place was worth the wait though!
I wanted to get the apple pancake, but my friends weren't feeling it. So instead, one friend (who's a vegetarian) got spinach crepes w/ potato pancakes on the side, I got the western omelet, and my other friend got three little pigs in a blanket. Sausages rolled in pancakes and covered in powdered sugar? After teasing her a bit about how it looked like it belonged in http://thisiswhyyouref..., I tried it and then realized, maybe I should start ordering food based on how unhealthy it is for me. It certainly seems to taste the best. heh. I do wish they had refills on orange juice. The serving size isn't that large and we had basically finished all of ours before the food came out. Overall, however, this place is excellent and worth a visit for breakfast or brunch.
Breakfast is good at any hour of the day. Or night.
Especially when it comes in the form of unlimited coffee, enormous gooey apple pancakes with scoops of vanilla ice cream thoughtfully served on the side (so it doesn't instantly melt), and fluffy omelets.
And when mom knows me and my friends well enough to leave out a coupon for Walker Bros. out on the counter. Bonus!
Yeah, that apple pancake is worth a special trip. It was sooooooooo good. I'm going to dream about it for weeks. It is like eating a gigantic apple pie.
We went on a Saturday morning at about 9am and the place was already pretty busy. But we got seated within about ten minutes. The place seems pretty big so even if there is a line it seems like things move pretty fast.
The service was excellent. In fact, it was so good that I ended up drinking waaaaaaaay too much coffee. I don't think my coffee ever went below half empty.
My only beef is that it is fairly pricey for breakfast but then the portions are that big that I can't really complain. In fact, we learned a lesson ... next time we'll split an apple pancake. The thing is so big I didn't even finish half of it. My husband had the Sante Fe Omelette and he said it was one of the best omelettes he's ever had so I don't think you can go wrong. But seriously, the apple pancake is where it's at!
Maybe the best pancakes in/around the city. When eating breakfast, I'm more of an egg guy myself but if you want great pancakes, this is it. The big apple pancake is certainly worth waiting for and I've been tempted more than once to buy the frozen one for home. They also have some bacon pancake and as we all know, anything with bacon in it just made itself that much better. The chocolate chippies are very, very good too. Great place, somewhat expensive for pancakes and expect to wait on weekends for a bit since this is the original Walker Bros, although the line does move quickly.
My cousin and I found this place while driving through the area to Evanston. We kept a mental note to come here for breakfast for the next day.
We came about 10 AM and saw the line going out the door. However, the line was pretty fast, only a 20 minute wait. I definitely wanted to have pancakes, but nothing too extreme. I decided to get the Continental (scrambled eggs, hash browns, buttermilk pancakes, and a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice) while my cousin got sausage and eggs. We did see people get their famous Apple Pancake. I swear that it looked like deep dish pizza, but the pancake version. It is made with fresh apples, cinnamon, and a sugar glaze. That's a pure sugar high! When we got our breakfast, everything was so good and fresh especially the pancakes. Tasty and fluffy! My cousin loved his breakfast too.
Next time I come back here, I am going to try the Apple Pancake, but going to share it.
I've been going to any one of the Walker Brother's restaurants since I was very young. I love love love love this place. Maybe it's nostalgia but really, they keep me dreaming of their divine creations over and over again.
Some top menu items that everyone must have before they die:
Coffee - it's Kona coffee. It's so smooth.
Apple Pancake - almost every review on yelp mentions it. I don't need to say any more.
Dutch Baby - smaller version of the German pancake. If you like lemons and sugar, you need to have it. If you don't, you can eat it without. The dough is very good. To me, it's not all like a pancake. It's more like a sweet doughy creation.
Danish Garden - oh sweet heavenly havarti on top of some celestial veggies embedded in a yummy "dutch baby"-type pancake.
Chocolate Chippies - chocolate chip pancakes. Very rich. Just get a half order
Swedish Pancake - it's like a crepe but better! So decadent and buttery. (This is my go-to menu item. I order blueberries instead of lingonberries. Oh dear, hold me, I'm shaking with ecstasy.)
Challah French Toast - It's challah french toast style and it is so pleasant. It melts in your mouth.
Oatmeal - It's real oatmeal! Rolled whole oats w/ brown sugar and raisins.
Hot Chocolate - very very rich but it's got the whip cream on top and the whole nine yards. Kids and adults love it.
(Note: I'm not one for egg dishes but I've heard from many that their omelettes and benedict is good.)
Yes, WB is notorious for crazy lines but they move really quickly, esp if there are only 2 ppl. Lines for two-seater tables go very fast. Trust me.
My sister and I needed fuel for a day of shopping so we decided to carb up at Walker Brothers. I chose the Eggs VENICIA Benedict, which came with sautéed spinach, mushrooms and bits of bacon garnished with a little pico de gallo. It was a solid dish, nothing more. I substituted the regular flapjacks with the Georgia Pecan pancakes. OMG! They were unforgettable. They roasted the pecans, which was a nice touch.
My sister complemented her omelette with a side order of potato pancakes, which eaten plain were not so good but slathered with the applesauce and/or sour cream they came with, were ok. Shouldn't they taste good alone? I think so.
The host seated us in a claustrophic booth right next to the kitchen (was it something I said?). I promptly asked to be moved to the very large, brightly lit dining room which faces south and had lots of empty tables. Just because we were two and not four does not mean we don't deserve our little slice of sun! If you ever stop at this particular location (they have several) peek at the booth next to the kitchen and you'll see why I'm making a stink about this. It was a borderline insult given that there were so many tables available.
aaaaanyway, solid pancake house. Would definitely drop in if I'm in the neighborhood but don't think it merits a special trip given that Chicago has the Bongo Room, Victory's Banner and a multitude of other places that offer unbeatable sweet breakfast delights.
Oh, Walker Brothers. Words cannot explain the extent of my love for this place. As a New Trier student, I went there more times than I can count, but I still make sure I go to either this one or the one on Waukegan at least once every time I come home.
Walker Bros is the North Shore at its most suburban. Expect to see big families and whiny children everywhere on the weekends. It can get very busy, so make sure you don't go during peak brunch hours, otherwise you'll be stuck in line.
The food... where do I even start? The chocolate chippies and banana pancakes are incredible, and the potato pancakes are surprisingly light and tasty. I always have to get the hash browns with mushrooms, onions, and ham every time I go. I think I once tried a chipotle chicken crepe that was pretty good, too. Drinks (hot chocolate, orange juice, coffee) are good but pretty expensive for such small portions. The two things I don't like are the famous apple pancakes and the chocolate crepes. I know, I know: blasphemous. But both are too sweet for my tastes. The apple pancake is essentially a massive hunk of dough, cinnamon, syrup, sugar, and apples. It was good, but I felt a little nauseous after two or three bites.
This is still my favourite eatery in the Wilmette area. The food is relatively expensive, but it's definitely worth it.
I had a good birthday lunch here with a co-worker. Service was good, but could have checked with us a bit more. Coffee, however, was always refilled. You have an option to get potato pancakes, rather than their buttermilk ones, and I had the Bacon Lover with Eggs, which came with 7 strips of bacon and 3 eggs however you like them cooked. The place itself could put a little more effort in making the place a bit more sanitized and clean - there is some musty odor and the bathrooms are not that great.

I love love love the apple pancake! Their coffee is the best that I have every tasted! I really liked this place!
I've learned that there is a general rule of thumb concerning restaurants and that is, when you see a long line of people eagerly and patiently waiting to be served whatever food it is that restaurant that they're waiting at serves, then the food, service or both, must be exceptional. This rule of thumb, applies to Walker Brothers.
Indeed you can usually find a line of people waiting to eat here on weekend mornings and for good reason. The food is always great and the service is prompt and very nice to you. The food here is definitely of a higher quality then your usual I-Hop or Denny's. You'd have to be numb not to be able to taste the difference. Eggs are always nice and fluffy. Pancakes are chewy and soft but never doughy. You get real syrup. The coffee is a Kona "Blend" and is the best coffee I've had served to me from a diner so far. You get real cream with it. And you get a lot of variety of things to choose from, be it a gigantic German Apple Pancake, a different Spinach Crepe or the usual Eggs & Bacon.
The service is always prompt and nice to it's customers. They'll always remember to fill up your glass of water or coffee and they're always around just in case you need something while dining. When waiting in the long lines on the weekend morning, you actually get seated pretty quickly because they're really efficient at getting you a table to sit at. Even if you have a party of 6-12 people for example.
Speaking of long lines and crowded dining areas, believe it or not, my favorite time to eat here is when it IS crowded. Not to sound too wholesome, but Walker Brothers is a place that attracts all types of different people. Black, White and Asian. Wealthy, Struggling and In-Between. Adults, Kids and Seniors. It really is a nice feeling to be sitting among so many different people and enjoying yourself. That experience, sadly, is almost lost at many places.
Other things to note are that you can buy the coffee to roast at home if you'd like and you can always buy giftcards of whatever value you'd like. They make excellent presents all year round.
I've only ever been to the Walker Bros in Lincolnshire, and even though that's a heck of a drive for us, my roomies and I go to that specific location because it has cobble stones and stained glass and we like to make a big deal about it.
Anyway, I recently visited this location in Wilmette because I wasn't with the roomies...and guess what? The food is just as good in Wilmette as it is in Lincolnshire!
I opted for the 49ers this time because I wasn't feeling up to the bacon and basted eggs with toast and pancakes that I normally get. Seriously, you can't go wrong here. Everything on the menu is amazingly delicious! My mom had the Mediterranean omelet and loved it.
I think this was the first time I've been to Walker Bros and not had at least a bite of the famous apple pancake (one of the roomies always orders it) and I doubt I'll ever let that happen again-just doesn't feel the same if you don't stuff yourself full of apple deliciousness.
The coffee cups are different at this location (these are the famous cups my roomie goes on and on about that when you pour in the cream it makes a flower because the cups are shallower...) anyway, the cups may be different, but the hot chocolate is just as good.
Service was fast and friendly. And the bathrooms are beautiful!
I'll be back...it's nice not spending an hour in the car each way like I have to when we go to the Lincolnshire location!
Good, but not very memorable. I've had better breakfasts in the Chicago area. The food was just a bit heavy and too traditional for me. Still, I think it's worth a visit.
They're known for their apple pancakes but almost all of the food is good. Overall very good but the restaurant could be cleaner. Walls and highchairs could use a good scrub.
This is one of the true great restaurants for breakfast that has been around for numerous decades. I may be somewhat biased due to nostalgic purposes but there is a line out the door the can wrap around the building on the weekends for breakfast and brunch.
The ambiance is not lacking like most breakfast/brunch places. They have beautiful carved wood, pounded tin ceilings and elaborate stained glass windows. Some of the staff have been working there for longer than i have been alive... seriously.
So onto the real star of the show- the food. My favorite is always the Belgian waffle with ice cream and fresh strawberries. (The ice cream is made down the road at Homers, which has my favorite ice cream). There are other delicious options as well such as the buttermilk pancakes (which you can have with pecans)... mmmm. The spinach crepes are wonderful too. I might skip the hash-browns but the bacon is great and the corn-beef hash is always phenomenal. Don't forget a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice- its worth the price when you compare it to Tropicana.
Big ups to my hometown for having the best pancake house! And I've been to a couple of the other locations, so I'm not just saying that. First there is the hot chocolate, which probably comes from a machine but is so good I'll even accept the whip cream on top. Then when you lift your eyes, there is nothing but prettiness, from the stained glass to the gleaming wood to the other stained glass.
Then there's the food. Always partial to a spinach omelet or blueberry pancakes, I can get either and they are consistently great. They bake their omelets, so they are a little different from your garden-variety semi-circle frying-pan product. Then there's the apple pancake, which is ridiculous and I won't repeat other Yelpers' comments but just know it is a force to be reckoned with. I mean, my dad only eats a half at a time.
But to me, the Wilmette Walker Bros. is special because at the check-out counter, they have the same array of stuffed animals and Chiclets they've had for 25 years, and that makes me feel warm and fuzzy. There is also an autographed photo of Robert Redford. You may know him as the one who looks like Brad Pitt, but he also directed a movie called "Ordinary People" on the North Shore in the early '80s.
So there you have it. The original Walker Bros. Pancake House gives you a complete experience.
The pancakes that made me cry defeat! The apple pancake and the German pancake were enough to feed a small army! The hunny and I were stuffed to the gills after this mammoth meal of sugar and carb overload. Thank goodness we had the healthy half grapefruit, sausage patties, and fresh squeezed OJ to balance it all out!
Great service and kitchy interior made for a fun breakfast experience that I thoroughly enjoyed!
A++ for kids!! Go Dutch Baby!
This restaurant is a classic! This was one of my favorite places for breakfast food as a kid, and as an adult I STILL love it. My personal favorite dishes are the chocolate chip pancakes, the potato latkes pancakes, and the hash browns. I also like the apple pancake but usually end up taking 3/4ers of it to go. While it's best for breakfast and brunch, I enjoy coming here when I feel like breakfast for lunch or dinner, too. (It's also less busy then - you don't have lines coming out the door.) The restaurant is loud and chaotic but in a fun kind of way, and service has always been prompt. If you're going to do an old-fashioned diner place, this is the way to do it and and place to eat it!
Tops my best brunch spots list.
The corned beef hash is to die for. I can't remember the last time I went here and didn't order it. On my last visit, I tried the venetian benedict, poached eggs on an english muffin, with the perfect combination of spinach, mushrooms, bacon, and tomatoes on top. It comes with a side of fruit or pancakes, but I always get the pancakes because they're so fluffy, and let's be honest... you can have fruit anytime.
During breakfast/brunch time on the weekends, there is always a line out the door, but Walker Brothers is able to manage it well, and the line moves pretty quickly.
P.S. This Walker Brothers is way better in quality than the one in Glenview.
Every time I am with friends and we talk about this place, we all get a glazed look of contentment. The food here is that good and it is a MUST for anyone who loves breakfast food!
The menu includes anything from standard eggs and bacon, to bacon pancakes (yes, bacon bits mixed into pancake batter).
Personally, I always get the Venetia Benedict (poached Eggs with fresh sauteed spinach, mushrooms and bits of our crisp bacon on a toasted English muffin blanketed with rich hollandaise sauce, with a garnish of pico de gallo. Served with a side of fresh fruit ). (The vegetables and fruit make it healthy, right?)
I've also had their famous apple pancake that should be labelled more as a cake than a breakfast food! It took me two days to finish.
Also, in the spirit of Wilmette, the restaurant interior looks like it was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. The ambiance is great, though busy, with classic wood trim and stained glass windows. It is also a family friendly place where many people go after church on Sundays or for Saturday morning breakfast. If you're looking to escape the crowd, try late afternoons on weekends or the weekdays.
I am not a huge breakfast eater, but this place has made me a huge fan of breakfast. I luv the pancakes, hash browns and corn beef hash.
When in Chicago or going to Northwestern University (Evanston), you must stop by and have a bite.
Walker Bros is the best place for breakfast in Chicagoland. Hands down!
The wait may seem daunting but the staff does their best to keep the line moving.
TIP: Keep your group to a minimal if you want to eat quickly. I went with a friend and was able to get a table before so many others who had been waiting for at least 10 minutes longer just because their groups were 3 or more.
They are incredibly busy but I commend the workers for their quick, no-hassle, and friendly service.
I had the Venetica Benedict...eggs were perfectly done and the hollandaise sauce was not too creamy (a total dislike of mine). I also sampled my friends Apple Pancake. It's more like a pie than a pancake...a little sweet for me, but that's because I'm sensitive to sugar. It was delicious but I wouldn't eat this as my meal. Better to share it with someone and get a real dish.
No matter how hard I think, I can't find anything to complain about re: Walker Bros. I'm not really a breakfast person and would prefer to go out for lunch or dinner every time (while halfheartedly stuffing fruit in my mouth at breakfast time and waiting for lunch or dinner to arrive), but if I am to go anywhere for breakfast, and I'm in the Chicago area, it'll be here. (It must be good for me to want to venture into Wilmette.)
This review is totally unnecessary - it's just adding another raving Walker Bros lunatic to the stack of them already here, and if you drive by there anytime after, oh, 10AM, you'll see that the line comes out of the dining room, down the hall, and out the door into the more often than not freezing, sleeting Chicago weather. Who would brave a blizzard to eat at Walker Bros? Oh, just EVERYONE IN TOWN. I came here in my blizzard-friendly car in a blizzard once and the line was, reliably, still out the door. Crazy.
On to the food. What dish makes these people so blind to reason? Could be any of them. I personally love the banana crepes, which are soft, pillowy, and lacy-edged, and stuffed to overflowing with mashed banana and sour cream, with a not-too-sweet apricot sauce over the top. To keep from getting sugar overload, I pair this with their thick-sliced bacon - and I never order bacon anywhere else, but their bacon is almost ham, it's so thick and juicy - and an overeasy egg, which they have never screwed up.
I also love their version of the pigs-in-blankets - the sausages manage to be both juicy and not juicy enough to leak all over the pancakes and make them soggy like every other version I've ever had. The cakes stay light and fluffy and dusted with powdered sugar until the end.
And their famous apple pancake. Now, I don't like cooked apples that much - no apple pie or apple tarts or anything. So I can't personally vouch for the apple pancake, though I've tasted it and can see how it's good - to other people. But let me just relay that my dad once used this pancake to test my then-new boyfriend's worthiness. He ordered one and declared that he and my boyfriend would share it. If my boyfriend succeeded in eating his half of the pancake, he passed.
That may sound like the apple pancake is hard to eat - and it is, because it is GIGANTIC. But everyone always finishes theirs, groaning and holding their stomachs, because it is apparently so delicious that to not finish it would be a shame and a sin - hence my dad's test of my boyfriend.
The nice thing about Walker Bros is that anything you order is going to be good. I'm never scared to branch out here. Literally everything on the menu is fantastic. And the prices reflect that. This is not a cheap breakfast place. But I'm not anti-somewhat-priciness if it reflects excellent quality, and in this case it does.
Walker Brothers pancake house is synonymous with the north shore of Chicago. My mom used to take us here when I was really young, back when the Kohl Children's Museum was right next door. So much fun.
The food here is your classic, awesome, all-American breakfast food. And it's done right. I usually get bacon, eggs, toast, and orange juice. The bacon is amazing, it's thick and substantial but not greasy. The eggs are sometimes done a little too much---I like mine over hard, but they are hard to cook that way so I'll give them a pass. The OJ is so fresh, sweet, and not a typical concentrate. Also they have amazing hash browns that taste really good with some of fresh salsa.
I've not had the classic apple pancake, but my mom has and she says it's the best of it's kind. It's pretty sweet that they also offer them frozen to go so you can have it any morning you like.
AH, also, how can I forget the coffee? Kona blend, specially made for WB. It's probably my favorite drip coffee out of anywhere. I'm usually a black coffee guy, too, but the combination of WB coffee and fresh whipping cream is to die for. Sometimes I'll stay even an hour after I've finished my food just for the free coffee refills. It's THAT good. I don't think they offer Espresso drinks (lattes, cappucinos, etc.) but their regular coffee is so good you forget about it really soon.
Prices are on par with the north shore, but not too pricey. I can't complain too much because the food IS good.
The restaurant itself is also one of my favorites. The decor is very classic, stained glass windows on the inside, classic booths, everything is straight out of the 1960's and I love it. The waiting area gets a little clogged up and annoying, but you usually don't have to wait long if you go at inopportune times for breakfast like I do.
All in all, I wouldn't change much about Walker Brothers. I hope they stick around for a while because it's a really memorable part of growing up. When I go here I always want to just come home and watch all of my John Hughes movies. It's that sort of a place.
Go early in the morning if you can, to avoid the queue. go with a group so you can order different things and share -- some items to consider are apple pancake, Dutch baby, Swedish pancakes, corned beef hash. The coffee is 2 bucks but they come around often to top off your cup. Fresh squeezed OJ is great. It was more expensive for our group of 5 to brunch here than it cost the night before at a fancy and delish Chinese place (Szechuan North). We had leftovers that were nice to snack on the next day.
Walker Brothers is a nice treat. We went on a weekend and somehow only waited ten minutes for a table. I hear the line gets a lot longer than that.
I ordered the apple pancake since I was a first timer. It was a good likeness of what a manhole cover in a Candy Land might look like. I felt some serious guilt about eating it and I only got through half. It really was delicious though. Plenty of envious stares from around the room when they set that thing down in front of you.
Lately I've grown increasingly irritated by the way that restaurants seem to all blend together and generally lack any resemblance of a soul. I'm especially irritated with the way that most cities have just become a collection of standard franchises. The usual suspects; McD's, Applebee's, Subway, etc. Walker Brothers offers you a break from all of that. They have a unique look and taste and are certainly a local favorite if lines are a good indicator.
If you like to go to throw back places, then this is for you. The ambiance & decor are pretty old fashioned & while that can be cutesy--this place misses the mark a bit.
Food is decent & I enjoy the healthier options on the menu--gotta love an egg white omelet with loads of veggies. The coffee is not really to my liking--but I would imagine if my taste buds were more worn out--then I would love it. Their portions are very generous--thus making up for their somewhat high prices. Wait staff is pretty quick & decently friendly.
I remember well the first time I made the jaunt out to Walker Brothers with a good, trusted friend for some "Apple Pancake" goodness. And I remember when my brain exploded sitting there in that chair, at how good it was, and how life would never be the same again.
And I remember going back time and time again to have my mind blown.
God, I miss Walker Brothers...
Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.
We went to Walker's at apparently the most perfect time ever-- 4pm on a Saturday....no lines! Whee-- although it was totally weird eating a full huge meal that early :). I had the Continental and added pecans to the pancakes and also shared an order of sausage patties. Yum. Seriously. It was totally perfect and even the coffee was phenomenal. I ended up drinking 3 cups really quickly (eek!). The OJ was yummy as well.
The service was a little strange but I figured with the time of day, our server was probably working a double and was exhausted. She was sweet but just a little slow with checking in on us.
I'll definitely head back, but it's also a bit away from Rogers Park, so it'll have to be once in a while, but that's good- no-one needs to eat all of their day's calories in one sitting!
Went here to meet friends last night. By the time I got there all of my friends had finished their food and the server was very up on getting my order and get my food to me extremely fast. I ordered the Banana Pancakes and they were delicious. Just what i was hoping for. If ever in Wilmette and craving good pancakes this is where you should go. Fast service, tasty food
Oh man.
I went for breakfast here saturday AM and got the valencia benedict.
two perfectly poached eggs--the yolk was just barely solid and had a perfect, creamy texture
fresh spinach, mushrooms, and bacon sauteed together--great bacon btw
pico de gallo w/just enough kick
not too much hollandaise sauce to make the dish feel heavy
all atop an english muffin.
the three pancakes it came with were also very nice.
I don't like the people who were there to be honest. A lot of ranting seniors and, well, just loud, rude people.
The waitstaff was unremarkable.
those eggs will long live with me as the best eggs benedict i've ever had.
Been coming here my whole life, I love the place. Always a good atmosphere, service, and of course the food is delicious. Personal favorites: the 49ers flapjacks, chocolate chippies, and the mushroom omelette. Also be sure to have the fresh squeezed orange juice. Bottom line is this place is a cut above any other breakfast joint out there, and still very reasonably priced. It's also a landmark and treasure of the neighborhood. So if you're in the area, go!
I went there with two friends last weekend. Food was great, partly because we were really hungry - didn't eat till 4:30pm ;-) A lot of choices. We ordered the classic pancake, crepe, sausage & eggs, but the most surprisingly delicious was the Dutch pancake! Yummy.
Service was great, too. Will certaily go back.
One of my favorite locations. Hot Chocolate is great here and I love love love the whipped cream on top. I ordered the Strawberry Waffles with Whipped Cream and they were perfect, not burned or undercooked. Was able to find a parking spot this time and no wait. I think I need to move into a Walker Brothers, I just can't get enough of their food.
One thing I did notice is this location does not have the non-breakfast type of foods as the Lincolnshire location.
APPLE PANCAKES!!! ::salivating::
This is my favorite Walker Bros. location. Food is consistent and service is great. I love everything I've ordered here. The apple pancakes are amazing.....you can't go wrong with warm caramelized apples and cinnamon, mmm!
I also recommend the bacon pancakes (yup, crispy bits of hickory-smoked bacon in the batter), the chocolate chip pancakes, and the corned beef hash. So much food, so delicious.
This is the original location, opened in 1960. As you can imagine, it gets pretty crowded on weekends so be prepared to wait for a table. But trust me, it's worth the wait!
Mamma Mia!
I am not usually one to dine out a lot, but yesterday after going all day without eating and lots of business meetings in the north suburbs, a gal pal and I decided to stop in for a Pancake Dinner!
We were blown away! We both had the Santa Fe Omlette and it was to DIE for. My hubby makes the worlds best salsa, but um, don't tell him, the salsa that comes with the santa fe is um...better (Shhhhh)
The pancakes were light and fluffy!!! Just enough on the side with the yummy syrup was just perfect!!!!
We are totally going back! Best thing is, we work on weekends...so we can enjoy this place while others are at work! :)))
A must if you live in Rogers Park or Evanston..not a far drive at all! Totally worth it!
xoxoxo
Every time I drive by this place after 10am, there is a line out the door. And there's a good reason why - the food is fantastic. I was taken here on valentines day and it was fantastic!!! If you want to check Walker Brothers out, plan to wait in line for at least 45 minutes. The food turns over quickly, but there are just that many people eating at one time.
it may be wise to grab a snack before heading to brunch!!!
I didn't know this was a real eatery, thought it was the figment of Tina Fey's imagination when she wrote the movie "Mean Girls." Turns out it was real and when I went to visit my friend in Wilmette, IL, she was quick to insist that we were gonna have breakfast here.
Decadence and perfection. Those two words sum up the entire experience.
Starting with the hot chocolate that was exquisitely rich with whipped creamed piled so high that gravity was defied, to the lightest, fluffiest omelet I've ever eaten with a side of amazingly delicious buttermilk pancakes, topped of with the famous apple pancake. It was like nothing I had ever seen. It broke barriers and was well beyond the walls of my imagination. It was an out of body and out of this world experience!
Bravo, brava Walker brothers, bravo!
