    Hello everyone,

I'm going to recommend to stop looking for a place to stay. You have found paradise when you book with Waimea Plantation Cottages. My newly we'd husband and I enjoyed the place immensely. The cottage had an ocean view, private and tranquil. Waimea has a very romantic setting and it is away from the touristy areas. I really enjoyed waking up to the wild rooster crow with the sound of the rolling ocean waves. Waimea is close enough to Waimea Canyon, numerous hiking trails and beaches.
Our cottage was always clean, Friendly staff and good food at the cafe on site. We did get married here on the plantation and had an extraordinary, memorable  post wedding dinner prepared by Chef Dias. I will visit there again.

We just returned from an 8 night stay at WPC.  We booked a package through Apple Vacations so the cost of a 1 bedroom/1 bath cottage was under $200 a night.  This is far more than we usually spend on a motel but for Kauai it was a great price for what we were looking for.

The cottages range from 1 bedroom to larger homes with several bedrooms.

All the cottages are refurbished and uniquely furnished.  Everything is in in working order, although not "modern."   There were plenty of electrical outlets and all the plumbing worked fine

There are no exterior lights except for a security motion triggered light.  There are porch lights which you control but no street lights.  This was a  big plus for us because at night the skies are ablaze with stars!

There is a $10 per day"resort" fee which includes pool towels, DVD/Playstation rentals, WiFi.

Two washers and 2 dryers in Laundry room in separate bldg in the WPC premises.

There is a pool on the premises that we did not check out.

Most cottages have parking in front of one's cottage.

    Spa services available.

    PLUSES:

Wainea is on the far west side of the island so the good thing is that it is quiet and private. and away from the busy tourist areas.

Our cottage was  very sunny with a large front porch and floor to ceiling windows along the front and many windows.

The screened windows let in fresh breezes and the ceiling fans kept the inside air cool and refreshing.

We had a full kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, full sized refrigerator, plates, cups. utensils, cooking implements, toaster, blender and coffee maker. There was sufficient counter space and cupboards and cabinets.

The bathroom was spacious with only a shower, a large shower with a nozzle head which was perfect for 6 foot + Mr. Rinky. but a little too high for Ms Rinky. There was a hair dryer. The towels were thick and fluffy, not ultra fluffy but just right.

    MINUSES

The location on the West side is far from every "attraction" except for Waimea Canyon.   The driving distance to Lihue and other places can take a long time due to speed limits, road work and rush hour traffic.

Not a DELUXE property---nothing fancy here.

Cottages do not have boogie boards, waster noodles, etc as do fancier condos.

Beach is a black sand beach with not so friendly swimming waters.

    CONCLUSION

We would definitely return to WPC

We were lucky to spend a week in mid-November with flawless weather and no mosquitoes.

If you are looking for a luxurious, 5 stars, pampered retreat then you should not stay here.  However, if you are looking for a beautifully manicured estate with quaint, private cottages, right on the ocean, on a tropical island then this would be a place to consider.

The property is located on the west side of Kauai in the small town of Waimea.  This makes visiting such sights as Polihale Beach, Waimea Canyon and many of the Na Pali Coast hikes close and convenient.

The cottages have been updated with modern furnishings and comforts: fully equipped kitchens: TV w/DVD's, wireless internet, grills, lawn furniture, etc.  The plantation also has a small gift shop and The Grove Café, which is not a bad place to eat.  But the real magic of this place is the setting.

The plantation grounds are beautiful and well maintained.  The cottages are fairly well spaced apart, providing for decent privacy.  The beach next to the property is a mix of brown and black sand, which gives the waves a dirty appearance, but the beach is great for walking, sunbathing or fires at night. The waves can be large and unpredictable, so ocean swimming here is not recommended.  However, there is a pool on the property next to the ocean with a small wading pond for keikes.

It was an incredibly, restful stay and we would not hesitate to stay here again.  Highly recommended.

We stayed here for a weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of Honolulu.  Our 3 bedroom cottage on the beach was wonderful and had a beautiful view of the ocean.  The cottages grounds connect to a black sand beach that gives the water a muddy look so its not the best for swimming but you can still hear the waves from your cottage.  The cottage was clean and equipped with everything that you could need for a weekend get away.  We were also pleasantly surprised to discover that we even had a reliable wifi connection in our place.  Aside from the location we really enjoyed reading the journal entries that others had left from their time spent in the cottage.

The cottages are a friendly place to stay.

The cafe and brewery on the property has tasty, reasonably priced food. The beers are really good.

We had 10 people in the managers house which was great. Though we ran out of towels fast. Luckily they brought more.

Be aware of the massive amount of Mosquitos. We had to lather ourselves in off... Make sure you leave the doors closed or you will be sorry.

The grounds are well maintained. The staff is friendly. You are close to good hikes and the best place to eat on the island is steps away.
"Island Tacos"... It is soooo tasty. Get the Cajun mahi mahi and the seared Wasabi ahi tacos... Though they are to big to eat both at the same time.

For our honeymoon in Kaua'i, we stayed at the lovely Waimea Plantation Cottages.  It was a real treat to get there and find that we had an oceanfront cottage, because when I booked the trip through http://ultimatehoneymo..., I was told the plantation was a little bit inland.  What a pleasant surprise to end up in a perfect little one bedroom cottage with a dining room that looked out onto the beautiful Pacific.

But, don't get too excited about the water - you can't go in it.  Apparently, it's a "strolling beach" which was a new phenomenon for us.  It does make for lovely strolls, but when I read in the guest book to take the warnings seriously, I did - no going in that water for us.  There are plenty of great swimming beaches nearby, tho.  You definitely want to rent the Mustang convertible and check some out!  Waimea is a great jumping off point for going to the canyon, checking our the Menehune ditch made by little people in the 1300s, and don't forget to take a helicopter tour!

The cottage was such an amazing refuge to come back to every night after touristing.  A full kitchen, *huge* bathtub, and comfy bed were all greatly appreciated.  We even took advantage of the cable TV and comfy couch to just hang out and relax some.  That was the best.  The place has a real homey feel because it was actual homes for plantation workers originally.  The charm of the cottages really won us over from the start.

We spent an afternoon napping in the hammock in the grass that was between us and the water.  It was perfect, with just enough shade to keep us from baking in the sun!

And, there is plenty of sun in Waimea!  It's on the western, drier side of Kaua'i, which means you can get lots of beach time without the rain you'll encounter in the north and east.  I do recommend that you get up nice and early one morning and take the drive counterclockwise around the island all the way to the end.  And, then hike as far as you can and enjoy the amazing waterfalls and beaches that you can't even get to in a car.

If you are looking for a quiet spot from which to explore and enjoy Kaua'i, check out these cottages.  And, say hi to Lyndon at the front desk - he's a real sweetheart!

If you want to see a black sand beach in Hawaii, this is a place to go. Years ago, we went here and we enjoyed our visit so much that I never forgot this special spot.

Yesterday, we stopped here on our way to Polihale to enjoy a walk on this beautiful property and to rock in the rocking chairs on the big porch.

They have cottages from 1 to 5 bedrooms located on a 27-acre coconut grove. The lawn is expansive and manicured and worthy of a slow stroll to take in its splendor.  The cottages, originally built in the early 1900s, have been updated and come equipped with a kitchen.

They are a bit expensive (a 1BR oceanfront is $360 a night) and when you are there you are pretty far from everything except the Waimea Canyon which is about 12 miles away.

A serious drawback is that you cannot swim in the ocean here ... and when in Hawaii, that is part of the fun.

I love the cottages; rustic and romantic.   Back in the day, there were where the plantation workers lived.  Now, these 1 to 5 bedroom cottages are guest houses.  Definitely beats staying at a normal hotel.  You wake up to the roosters, and you can just smell the island.  The staff are soo friendly.  Really enjoyed staying there.

One huge con is that you can't swim in the ocean, the water is muddy from the red earth.  It's really quite unfortunate.  I guess that if the water was clean they would charge so much more and we might not be able to afford to stay there.

Good times.  Definitely worth a nite or two.
