It's so nice here... One of the best beaches that I was able to see on my short trip to Oahu. Jumped off the cliff only once because it hurt my ear drums when I landed in the water but worth the quick adrenaline rush despite my ear drum pain afterwards lol.. Parking is a pain so expect to sit in the lot for a good ten mins like we did until someone was ready to leave then you gotta stalk their car down before someone else gets it first! Or u could park in the street but keep in mind it's a long walk back after soaking up the sun n playing in the water. I wouldn't consider myself too outta shape but boy was i outta breath trying to walk back to the car after spending 4 hours chillen on the beach.

The water was so clear and calm but no sea life spotted :( maybe next time. The BF n I went on a Thursday afternoon n it was not crowded at all..

The drive from Ko Olina was about 30 mins or so, no traffic but u get to drive through Haleiwa first which is a cute town. Plus the Dole plantations near by so after swimming at Waimea you can get some delish pineapple ice cream- Yummm o!
Overall:
Five stars for location, cleanliness, soft white sand and turquoise waters !!!! - minus one star for the tiny parking lot!!!be aggressive!! LoL especially if u come later on in the day!!

One of the BEST days of our lives took place at this beach. The sand is soft, the warm water is clear, [MOST of] the people there are friendly, and the dolphins come out from time to time to put on a show.

There is a huge rock for cliff divers--which was the main attraction for us.

Parking is limited to a small number in the park's lot so come early! If you're bringing your own food and drinks in a cooler, you better pray you're parked close to the beach! Carrying a heavy cooler for a distance is exhausting after treading on the sand in the sun.

BEAUTIFUL beach!!! Crystal clear, warm water. Jumped off the rock 3 times, but only once from the highest point. Scary as heck and it hurt my ass!!! But it was mof def worth it and will mos def go again when I return. AWESOME experience!!!

It took us about less than an hour to get here from Waikiki. Parking is a pain in the butt since the parking lot is tiny!!! You can park on the street but good luck finding a spot. You can also hump it up the hill and park at a church, but there are signs saying you can't park there but people still do so park at your own risk. We ended up parking across the street at Waimea Valley. The "cousin" who worked there said it was ok to park there if you're going to the beach. The walk isn't bad and you get to take in some Hawaiian rain forest scenery along the way and maybe see the white endangered species bird (forgot the name).

The single greatest moment of my Hawaii trip was cliff diving here at sunset.

Waimea Bay is on the North Shore, 45 minutes outside of Honolulu. It's about a quarter mile of stunning beach with a big rock formation people jump off. On the evening we were there, the water was calm and there were very few people - perfect conditions for an hour straight of adrenaline rushes. Ok, so the cliff wasn't crazy high, but it was crazy fun!

Next time I'm on the island, I will spend an entire day at this beach. It's beautiful, fun and convenient. I've ventured to many gorgeous beaches in Hawaii, and oftentimes, it means trekking it from a dirt road and going without close-by bathroom facilities. Waimea has plenty of bathrooms/showers and a parking lot. (This minor detail is something I learned only after we parked high above on the highway and baby-stepped it/crab-legged it down a super steep, rocky cliff!)

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

For the past 3 years, everytime I've tried to come here the parking lot is crazy full.  I don't know how people even come here! We did get to stop in and double park because a friend wanted to jump off the rock and during that time even though it was close to sunset there was no cars leaving!  There's a lot of signs saying how dangerous and high crime the park is. Be careful!

Besides Kailua Beach, my friends and I had a blast here! The day after we arrive to Hawaii, we head straight to this beach and spent nearly 6+ hours cliff-diving, swimming, snorkeling, and of course RELAXING! It was a PERFECT way to begin our Hawaii trip!

The drive up through Hale'iwa's/ Pineapple Fields (more of the country side scene) was beautiful. The water is so clear & warm! The sand was a bit of a work-out for little ol' me - yet it was still amazing to feel under my toes or lay on!

The parking lot is always full so drive pass the beach a bit (about a block or two) and you'll find other parking areas on the left hand side. We always found parking there & then walked down to the beach. Not a biggie.

Also, we brought a styrofoam cooler with some cold sandwiches (which we prepared the night before) and beverages to keep us energized for the whole entire day at the beach!

CAAAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK HERE! I fell in love w/this place!

Words can't even begin to describe the beauty of this beach.  On the day that my friends and I ventured to the beach, the sun was shining, the CRYSTAL, CLEAR azure water and sky TOOK MY BREATH AWAY.  We took pictures, but even they don't come close to what my eyes saw that day.  Hawaii is definitely a treasure, but Waimea Beach is one of the rare gems of that treasure trove.

We swam in the clear water (where I could see local fish swimming around my ankles) and lay on the beach, whilst eating our Spam Musubi and fried chicken (DELISH) and I couldn't think of any other place that I would have rather have been.

The "official" beach parking lot is small and fills up quickly, so don't even go there.  We ended up parking in the church lot (at the top of the hill) for a donation of $5.00.  It is a quick, but short walk to the beach.

The good thing is that in the summer, the waters are rather tranquil and even mediocre swimmers (such as myself) can swim with no problems.  Yet, there are signs all around warning of the strong currents and dangerous undertows.  My friend, who is from the area, did warn me that in the winter, the waves are DANGEROUS and swimming is not advised.  So, if you head up here, plan for summer swimming!

PS - just a warning....there are sand fleas...and sea lice (jellyfish and anemone larvae)...so if you feel a stinging whilst in the water - immediately go and rinse in clean water and change out of your suit to avoid the post-swim rash!!!  Oh and use a bit of insect repellent for the sand fleas!

The shore is crazy huge. I've never seen anything like it. Much better than kailua's currently nonexistent shore.

Jumped off the rock twice. Very very scary but I loved every second of it!

Be sure to stop by this beach if you're visiting Oahu. The parking is a biatch so get there early or get there around 5 or 6 when everyone is leaving. There is some parking on the main road but I don't advise it especially if you have a nice car. Someone broke into a friend's SUV and took her bag full of cash and credit cards. The car I rode in was all bussup and we took our stuff. Don't leave your valuables in your car! Thieves love to dwell near Waimea Bay, don't risk it

Beautiful beach with steep sand shore. The water is very blue and the beach is enveloped by lush vegetation. The sand is very soft and perfect for lounging on. There is a large rock that everyone likes jumping off of. There are lifegaurds present. On Memorial Day they picked up our friend with crutches and drove him to the water to enjoy the beach- this was very kind and attentive.

A day spent at Waimea is peaceful and gorgeous.

Fyi's~
* Foodland is very close by for grabbing lunch or food to fuel being in the sun all day
* There is a large bathroom complex
* Vendors sell drinks, snacks, and t shirts by the parking lot
* Parking is very limited- You can park up the road by the church and walk to the beach to save a large about of time

I LOVE THIS BEACH!
The water is SUPER clear, and the snorkling is surprisingly good!
(it was 100 x's better than hanauma bay for me, i saw WAY more fish here!)

The sand is soft, the sunsets are amazing, the drive there is beautiful!

The parking lot is always full, but i had a scooter so i got prime parking everywhere.

Go on the weekdays and its not busy at all, only tourists who ventured to the north shore, whuch there arent many..

Go here, stay all day!

A trip to the North Shore should NOT be without a stop to Waimea Bay.  If you can find parking.  Just wait it out, or FIND a spot.  The cliff diving is definitely fun to watch.  The tide was a little low the day I went, so I passed.........  But body surfing here was great.  Definitely make sure your trunks are on tight...  Or for the ladies.... oh nevermind...=)

Definitely watch the locals a bit first before just heading in.  There are also varying depths, despite going in "deeper."  The waves can really catch you off guard.  But once you get used to it, this place can be a blast.

One of the most beautiful beaches in the world and the home of big wave surfing - how can you not love it?!
The entry is steep - you need to be prepared to be in 30 foot water in about 5 steps (and watch out for the coral at the bottom - looks like something lurking). But it's so nice to just swim and float in a beautiful hawaiian beach.

Waimea Bay is reliably impressive in the winter for visiting mainlanders.  You think you know what a big wave is, until it's breaking right on top of you and then you're drowning in 2 feet of water.  Yeah, that's called Waimea Bay and shorebreak!  I couldn't believe it the first time I saw it.

The beach is great for the scenery.  Stick to the right side if you're inexperienced.  The lifeguards will let you know if you're doing something stupid, but in general, if there's a local kid out in the surf making things look easy, it's because he's been out there since before he could walk.  There are low surf days and apparently the summer is good, too, when you can swim to your hearts content and jump off the rock on the left side.

The parking lot is small, but there is parking to be had outside the lot along the highway, and there are trails down to the beach.  The beach itself is actually pretty big and you can get a bit away from the "crowd" who always seem to stake claim to the wet sand until a really big wave hits and soaks all their towels.  Bathrooms are available so you don't have to risk your life in the ocean just to relieve your bladder.  And, if you're lucky, you might see the epic lone metal guitar player on the right side of the beach rocking out to the crashing waves (true story).

Middle of winter when the surf's double over head, standing on the beach looking up from the sand at everyone lining Kam Hwy gawking & photographing, amazed at the strength and the beauty of the surfers taming the waves.

In - freaking - credible.

Yes it's a small lot - but this ain't town.

This spot lost a bit of lustre for me since I was there the day Donny Solomon passed - but my god the beauty and the tranquility of this spot....Makes you love your life just a little bit more.

2nd favorite beach (next to Kailua) because they have cliff diving.  CLIFF DIVING.  Nuff said.  It's only about 20-26 feet, so nothing that you wouldn't be able to handle.  I loved the fact that they have "No diving" signs on the rock and on the beach, but I guess that's just to protect the parks from being sued or something.

It's on the North Shore side, so if you want to go boogie boarding or something, you should be able to catch a few good waves.

Parking is a pain in the butt so go early or go really late (when people are starting to leave).

Been here twice and compared to some other beaches in the North Shore, this one is just OK. It gets really crowded here and the parking lot isn't very big, so we had to park up the street and deal with oncoming traffic. The rock jumpers were cool though and there were 4 dolphins entertaining us beach-goers which was fun.

During my second 2008 trip to Oahu, I wasn't able to enjoy this beach due to the lack of parking. But this time (trip #3), the parking gods were with us and we found a spot the minute we got there. Since I had read so much about the waves being crazy huge here during the winter, I was looking forward to seeing something other than the calm waters, but no such luck. There were a few strong shore breaks near the rock, but that was about it. To the right side of the beach, it was pretty calm, so we just dove in with our floaties and wondered what all the suckers not in Hawaii were doing.

As we left, a woman waiting for a spot asked us where we were parked. Since we had been so blessed in finding parking, there's nothing like paying it forward, so we waited for her to drive around and then walked to our car, where she gratefully took our spot.

For those of you who have been there before, you know what I mean about the whole parking thing. Still my favorite beach.

Waimea Bay Beach Park in February is a spectacle, with huge waves that keep all but the most experienced and well equipped surfers out of the water.  The surf is was so high that even standing 30 feet from the water we could feel the salt spray.  This is probably why the beach was definitely not crowded.

If you can't find a parking space in the small lot, drive a little farther north.  There are a few places along the highway where you can park, and then take the trail behind the guardrails down to the beach.

The park has bathroom facilities, showers, and picnic tables on a nice grassy knoll.  While we were there the lifeguards were constantly on the loudspeaker, reminding those unintelligent enough to think that it was a nice day for a swim about the surf advisory.  I felt sorry for the guy we watched get clobbered by the waves, but my husband found it all very amusing.

THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACH with beautiful water.  My husband and I--we are such tourists.  We do the typical touristy stuff---spend way too much money at fruit stands, get stuffed on plate lunches at the lunch trucks and then we burn off the calories at Waimea beach.

You can see small little fishies swim by too...

Love this beach, but you have to come super early to get parking spot. This place has limited parking spot that sometimes you have to wait for good 30 minutes for parking. And there are people who are willing to do that!! we were one of them! hahaha! BUT seriously... it is soooo WORTHED!!! My first true love is the beach.

Warm, Pacific waters that feel like the most heartfelt of embraces and a white sand beach that shines so brightly on a sunny day that extra-large Chanel sunglasses are de rigeur.

I spent 15 years of my life growing up on the island of O'ahu, and this particular beach is the one place I can go that makes me sublimely happy.  The sight of crashing cobalt waves crowned with seafoam soothe me, and I find a stillness that lets me lay in the sun for hours on end, oblivious to anything else going on around me.  I am usually alone when I go up to Waimea, 30 minutes from my parents' house in Mililani.  Even the drive up there is beautiful - you can see all the way to the water as you drive through miles of pineapple fields toward a beckoning blue.

It's even more magnificent during the winter, when the swells reach double digit heights and only the most daring of surfers will attempt to conquer the ocean's fury.  The crowds on the beach stand there, awed, as the lifeguards stand ready to pull a surfer out of a dangerous current.  Waimea in the winter is a beautiful disaster - so alluring, yet threatening.

Every time I go back home to O'ahu, I have a ritual.  I drive my mom's car up to Waimea, throw down my things, and kneel on the sand in a few moments of meditation, thinking about how grateful I am for this experience.  Then I strip down to my swimsuit, walk to the edge of the water, then slowly into the water, just until it's up to my hips.  I wait for a wave.  Then I dive in headfirst, letting the cool water shock my body - and for that moment, I get a rush of butterflies inside.  It's like a water baptism every time, as the ocean says to me, "Welcome home."

Pretty awesome place. Totally inhabited by teenagers up and down the bay the couple of times I've been here. It seems that the older folks find it hard to leave their resorts. Regardless jumping off the cliff into the water is a definite must so any fears you may have of plunging from a 20 foot rock into water down below should be tossed out the window, you just gotta try it.

This is the place, my favorite beach.  the waves are fun here and the outdoor shower has the best tasting water you will ever have splash in your face.
The setting is paradise but don't be fooled, there is a constant criminal element stalking the parking lot.  Roll your windows down and remove EVERYTHING of value from the car, they WILL go through your entire car without being challenged by anyone.  If you take valuables and leave them in your car it's YOUR fault if you come back to smashed out windows.
It's just a really great beach, safe for little kids and a nice day for everyone.

I've been to Oahu close to 10 times now and I FINALLY saw a turtle.  Just for this reason alone, Waimea gets 5-stars from me!

This is truly an amazing beach.  The sand is super soft; the water is crystal clear; the views are magnificent.  Only drawbacks are:  parking can be limited and the walk to the beach can seem quite far when you have to carry stuff.  But those are just small sacrifices to pay in order to experience this wonderful beach.

Also, the cliff jumping is super fun.  I highly recommend.

So why is Hawaii such a pimp? Because, it has hella BEACHES! haha get it... beaches.. Waimea beach is one of the nicest beaches i've been too. So that's what water looks like when it's blue.. waikiki beach has been polluted through out the years, so it's not even close to Waimea Beach. It's Serene, beautiful... the sun is strong so i get my nice dark tan, even though i didn't get much of a tan, and their's a bunch of eye candy as well.

The thing that caught my eye the most here was the Cliff that you could jump off of. Yeah, it doesn't look like much when you looking at the bottom.. sure you think you can do it, but damn once you get up there you get second thoughts. It took me about 10 minutes just to jump off every single time, which was about 4 times.

One thing, good luck with parking, it's a biotch! Get their really early, or you'll have to park at the church up the street, which is about a 10 minutes walk.

CRAZYYYYYY weather. no doubt!

One moment, it was sunny and warm, and the next moment, it was drizzling and cold while still sunny! WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT!?

i admit though, this beach is pretty amazing. All the locals were raving about this beach, and with good reason.

I've never been to Hawai'i before and let me just say that California beaches don't compare in anyyyy way, by a LONGGGGgg shot!

Such b-e-a-utiful water and sand. So clean. Amazing weather (besides the rain). And it's absolutely not pebbly and rocky like Cali beaches.

If this is paradise, i don't ever wanna go back home...

JUMPING ROCK REVIEW:

When there is no surf at Waimea Bay, locals and visitors alike enjoy jumping off of the huge rock on the western end of the bay. This is a nice way to unleash the inner daredevil in all of us.

If you are unsure of what you are doing, don't even try attempting it. Be especially careful at low tide, as the water below is extremely shallow.

A good rule of thumb is not to attempt jumps if nobody else is doing it, as there is probably a good reason that the rock is deserted.

In Nietzsche's "The Gay Science" a madman feels so alienated from his world that he cries out the famous line, "God is dead."

I don't blame the character, since in the late 19th Century (when the philosophical tome was written), Europe's Industrial Revolution was in full swing and their world was so dehumanizing that the common person couldn't help but feel insignificant and angst-ridden.

I wish that Nietzsche's protagonist (and the author himself) had a chance to go to Oahu's North Shore. It's so beautiful and lush and green and inviting that one can't help but be:

a) awestruck by its grandeur that you'd believe that God is alive and loves you by creating such a wonderful place; and

b) sucked into it - or (as I like to think of it) invited back into Mother Nature's arm like her Prodigal son.

And like a child did I feel when I visited Waimea Bay. Its beach is warm and smile-shaped as if to welcome me. Its huge waves tossed me around playfully like I was an infant. And the surrounding fauna made me feel protected from the harshness of the outside world.

Be warned though - you can't be too idle-minded when you visit Waimea Bay since there are signs posted everywhere telling you that your sh*t can be stolen by local thieves if you're not wary of your belongings ~ in fact, glass from busted car windows are stark reminders of that fact as well.

As I sat there basking in the sun's glow, I couldn't help but wonder why the locals would take such a crooked path, since from what I saw, with all that splendor around them, they wouldn't need much more.

And it occurred to me that they might be committing these petty crimes (and the constabulary might be looking the other way) for a couple of reasons:

1)  The locals don't want to make it too easy for the droves of tourists to "invade" their stomping grounds. By making it a little dangerous, outsiders would think twice before coming to this paradise, as if it's their way of weeding out faint-hearted interlopers who'd rather stay in the confines of civilization where their Ipods and digital cameras are safe.

2) Also, maybe the locals feel that the little things they do pinch from visitors are "tributes." In some cultures, when you visit a place and use its resources, you're supposed to give something back to the people. But since tourists have a way of just "take-take-taking," the locals have decided to become pro-active. To stretch the whole "religion" theme - it's their way of collecting a tithe*. (*They must be paying a sh*tload on Ebay fees).

If you feel burnt out, I highly recommend going to the North Shore. You won't be sorry.

And if you go to Waimea Bay, keep an eye on your stuff. You won't be sorry about that either.

10 years ago, deftly afraid of heights, I decided (with the help of the mighty high school tool: peer pressure) to jump off the rock.

You know...THE rock.  I don't even know its official name.

I just remember I was scared of it, and had seen kids younger than me do it over and over again no problem.

Standing on the beach and looking up, it still looked very very very very daunting.

I remember it now, crystal clear.  A defining moment in my adolescent years, no doubt.

I climbed up with my friends...more schoolmates than friends, and while I don't quite remember exactly why I was there with them, I suddenly forgot everything as I realized I was on..the..rock.

I kept wanting to backtrack, to say that "whoops, I forgot something" or fake a splinter or SOMETHING to get me off that rock.  I turned around, and then realized...hey..the fastest way off this rock and off of a HUGE fear of heights was to jump.

Next thing I knew it was my turn.

I jumped.
I closed my eyes and screamed until I ran out of breath.
Omigod i'm still falling and I ran out of breath???!?
I opened my eyes to scream again and got out about another second before my mouth was full of salt water, and all I felt was pain..yes ladies & gents, the amateur landed badly.  BADLY.

After the initial freakouts in the water about how bad I must be bleeding, I made it back to shore.  Alive.  Not bleeding.  Laughing, even.

I definitely recommend doing it if it's the summertime when the waves are nil.  Don't even think about doing it when surf's up.

Parking: Lot fills up pretty quickly on weekends.  There are a ton of buses that pass by, but if you don't mind a bit of a hike usually people park along the swerving highway anyway.

Oh, and try stargazing here some time.  About 2 years ago, I watched the Leonoid Meteor Showers, and absolutely fell in love with it all over again.

This beach is fantastic for several reasons:
1. It doesn't have the cluster #(*$&% of people on top of each other like you see at Waiks
2. It's freakin gorgeous--teal blue water so clear you can see the tiny schools of fish without a snorkel swimming near white sandy floor
3. Waves so calm, you could float in the water all day without a care in world
4. A rock jutting out over a deeper part of the water where people constantly dove/jumped off (I was too chicken to try)
5. Lifeguards constantly patrolling the beach
6. Picnic tables in a grassy area before you hit the beach

LUV, LUV, LUV IT!!!!!

This beach was my favorite.  went on a weekday had a weee bit of trouble finding parking. had to do the "circle around" game.  the view is completely breathtaking.  lots of space to pick a chill spot to relax, go snorkeling, paddle boarding whatever your flavor may be.

light fun snorkeling to be had. a turtle came by to say hi at one point along with a beautiful school of fishies!!!

Perfect waves, set after set.  Sun.  Water's bright blues and greens.  Novice boardriders and swimmers be careful out there!

=====[SERVICES]=====
Restrooms   - dirty but definitely adequate.
Showers   - freshwater, no private stalls.
Picnic Tables   - off sand, under some shade.  usually occupied.
Parking   - free lot and street but on the weekends and on good surf days, you havef to get there early.  It fills up by 10:00).
Lifeguards   - yes, one stand with lifeguard on duty.
Hours   - sunup to sundown.

=====[THE WARNING]=====
Depending on the season, the nature of this beach park, like any other on O`ahu, varies greatly.  In the summer, there are still sometimes breaking waves close to shore.  In the winter, the waves on the outer reef regularly reach 25 feet (face scale).  The inner break, which is close to shore, will reach about half that height at 13 feet.  When the surf is up, this is not a break to be surfed or bodyboarded by beginners.  If you are unfamiliar with ocean safety and waves, it is best to not enter the water.  Always check with the lifeguard if you are unsure.

=====[THE WAVES]=====
For those of you into riding waves, this is the sickest shore break I've put my bodyboard on.  Granted, I have many more to explore, but they're really clean, fast moving, breaks.  If you're facing the ocean, the heavier breaks are off the far left by the rocks.  The break gets progressively softer as it progresses to the right toward the sand spit.  The water is doesn't get too cold.  Still, if it's not sunny out, I have to wear at least a 0.5 mm neoprene rash guard.

=====[THE BEACH]=====
The sand beach is on a slight decline and has a great view of the entire bay.  The bathroom is located right between the park and the beach and is accessible from all points in the park.  On the far left is a large rock that juts out from the ocean.  Lots of local boys make the long jump into the ocean from there.  I've never jumped.  I have no desire to jump.  I'd probably hurt myself badly.

Went to this beach on one of my last days in Hawaii.  Parking was a nightmare, there's not enough spaces.  After circling about 15 times, and stalking someone and fighting with another family, we finally found a spot.

The beach itself is gorgeous, the view is amazing...hey, you're in Hawaii, you can't really go wrong.  I wouldn't go here during the winter, but summertime has waves even the kiddies can handle (not me, though... I can't swim!!).  I think the was the hottest sand on Oahu, even had to wear my slippers all the way to the water!  Oh and a couple of friends partaked in the cliff diving.  Very cool, even for a novice.

As we left, the lifeguards had chased and detained some local boys/kids who decided to steal people's bags.  So be a little wary of leaving your things while in the water.

BEAUTIFUL! This place is worth the drive if you are staying in Waikiki. It's beautiful and the waters are clear and warm. Be warned though, the waters do get deep fast so you better know how to swim! This place is my kind of paradise. I loved it here. What I didn't love was the parking! It's a pain and you will wait a good 30 mins if you come during the peak times. Also, it's a bit of a trek to walk down to the beaches. The sand is hella hot but once you find a spot, jump in the waters and you'll be fine. Amazingly enough, my 13 year old daughter wanted to jump off the cliffs with our group. She did it without any fear. She convinced me to do it saying "come on mom! it's no big deal!" I fell for it and started climbing. Oh my goodness! Although it's about less than 30 feet, it seemed like more to me. Legs trembling and stomach churning, I made everyone go ahead of me until finally someone said "just do it! you'll be fine!!" I made the leap, faced my fear and came out of it fine. Would I do it again?? Umm..hells no! One time was enough for me.
