29 reviews for Wailea Beach Marriott Resort & Spa
We stayed a week here for our honeymoon and were very very pleased with the hotel and the service.
First, your staying in Wailea which is the Beverly Hills of Maui. This means that you are going to have to pay for things. Internet is 14$, drinks are $11, cabanas are $100, and the cool beds at the pool are $50.
With my job I travel a ton and was able to use reward points for my stay which meant no $25 dollar resort fee. We were recieved a complimentary upgraded from an oceanFront room to OceanView room and I must say that it was pretty amazing. We achieved baller status.
The serenity pool here was ridiculously nice. It's tough to describe but I hear that it's the nicest pool in Wailea. Despite other reviewers the pool itself was serene and was not a frat party. Our cocktail waitress was always nice if not a little slow to get our drinks.
We were also one of the assholes that got up early to put our towel down and reserve nice chairs.
We ate at the hotel restaurant once and it was pretty legit. I recommend the nachos with extra queso.
We also booked a few excursions through the concierge and we were allowed to charge it to our room. If you have marriott rewards then this means you get 10 extra points per dollar you spent on each excursion. STRAAIGHT.
I definitely recommend this place. It's not as nice as the Grand Weilea or Four Seasons but it definitely holds it's own.

I had serious reservations about this hotel after reading reviews throughout the Internet, and seeing actual trip reports and photos from TripAdvisor.
What drew me to stay here was of course the price, from my Expedia package. I was able to book an OceanView room here, as opposed to Parking Lot view at the Kea Lani nearby. Having stayed at the Kea Lani several times before in better categories than that, I knew I may want to try the Marriott. Besides, it was supposed to have been recently renovated.
Over the phone, after having made my reservation through Expedia, I called the hotel directly and spoke to a reservation agent, Zelie. She told me that she can offer a Deluxe Ocean Front room (one step down from their Presidential Suite I suppose, if there is one) at the rate of $75 more a night. Well, I've seen this view at TripAdvisor, and since I do like hearing the ocean's whoosh at night, I said yes. The room is situated on a bluff, directly across from the ocean alright, no building in front of it.
I suppose I'm very choosy, as in the room's floors were covered with tile, not marble, that helped lessen the experience. The beds too were so very soft and lumpy, a far cry from my TempurPedic at home.. And the bed sheet thread count - forget about it!
There you have it, a less than stellar stay. Oh there were lots more details. I've just had about enough writing about it. Next time, I'm staying elsewhere.
I stayed at this hotel in late June using my Marriott points for a Terrance view room (the cheapest). Upon our arrival and checking in, unlike most other yelpers have noted, we didn't receive any warm welcome, a seashell necklace, or a cocktail. I understand their check-in time policy is in the afternoon and we arrived in the morning, thus, our room was not ready. But boy, for "an upgrade" fee of $75, we get an ocean view room and its ready immediately. Isn't it funny how this works?
I have to admit, the room is up-to-date and spacious. Our king size bed was comfortable but too soft than my liking to provide any back support. By the end of our stay, our backs were achy. I personally feel the upgrade fee was a complete rip off. Granted, our room was at the ground level, so we can easily exit our room from the back door to the main pool area. However, there was no ocean view. The only view we got was a tall bush surrounding the pool.
The room was cleaned daily and they do a good job. However, there was a light bulb out when we checked-in and they never change it. I didn't bother to call since I'm not in Maui to hang out in the room all the time.
The lounge chairs with the umbrella are hot commodity and people know it to the point they hog them until sunset. The lounge chair hoggers leave their towel as their place holder and casually show up whenever they feel like. Marriott does not enforce any pool rules.
I agree with other yelpers that the hotel ground is beautiful and well maintained and groomed. It situates on a nice area of Wailea and the beach is within walking steps. A shopping mall is ~5-7 minute walk from the hotel.
Hotel's restaurant, Mala, was a disappointment. Despite the celebrity photo proven to have dined there before, it does not compensate their poorly flavored food. My filet mignon was overwhelmed with all sorts of spices and marinate that I can't even taste the flavor of the meat. My boyfriend's ribs were drowned by sauces. What are they trying hide with this?
Hertz car rental on the property was a joke. We reserved online for a small SUV to be picked up at the hotel. When it's time to go pick it up, they said "Oh, we don't have that car size". They could have called us!
The only real pleasant experience was when our bell boy came to pick up our luggages, he offered to give us a ride on his golf cart to our parked car in the parking structure.
My overall experience with the hotel was average. Although I used points for the room and didn't have to pay, their room price it's not worth it. For the 4.5-5 star caliber price range, it certain does not meet the same level of expectation. Their service needs significant improvement to justify the price.
Stayed here as a reward stay. Booked two rooms and was nicely upgraded to oceanfront rooms. On the first nice there was a problem with one of the rooms. The following morning the hotel wasn't able to resolve the situation so gave us a connecting room which happened to be a 2 room suite with 1.5 bath, 2 balcony and very large living area. With the connecting door open it was like staying in a luxury apartment. We were traveling with a toddler so made great use of the kiddie pool.
We didn't eat at the restaurant nor did we order room service so I can't comment on that. I was very surprised that the prices at the hotel gift shop was so reasonable.
Housekeeping was great. They kept the rooms extremely clean.
I love the shampoo. Parking was convenient. The Shops of Wailea next door is a good diversion.
I travel a lot for work. Hotel stay and airfare were from Marriott points.
We stayed a week here for our honeymoon. I had such a hard time picking a hotel because of all the reviews I've read but in the end, I'm quite happy we chose the Marriott. The property is absolutely beautiful and the views are breathtaking! We were greeted with shell leis upon arrival...and these weren't your cheap ABC store leis! They were actually pretty nice! At check in they offered a free upgrade to Deluxe Oceanfront (from just plain oceanfront) since it was our honeymoon but I declined because it was on the ground floor. When I saw our room I had no regrets! We were even able to watch the sunset from our room!
The property is huge! We got lost a few times trying to get from one pool to another...or even back to our room. But then again, we wouldn't have gotten any exercise any other way during that trip!
The only downside is that everything is sooooooooooooo expensive!!! But then again, everything in Maui is just plain ridiculously expensive! It helps to go the ABC store or Whalers and buy your own alcohol and bring to the pool or beach.
I'd definitely go back to this place again! After walking through many of the hotels around Maui, Marriott is really the best for your money!

Was pleasantly surprised to stay here, except when we asked nicely to upgrade since I am a silver elite member they said they were totally full, what BULL SHIT! You could tell the resort was empty, which was actually nice. In fact the whole island was empty, which was really great driving on the one laned roads all over the island...anyhow we stayed in the tower area, it was fine.
The beds are so comfortable, slept great every night. Really had no complaints about this place, except the $11 poolside beverages, what a rip off! IT's so hot the ice melts and waters them down by the time you get the drink, and Happy hour special is $2 off?? Next door at the grand wailea HH special is $5 a drink!
Anyhow, great place, quiet area though, so unless you want to spend all your time in the hotel, which could get rather expensive, rent a car!
Let me just say, I loved it here. LOVED IT. It was in such a beautiful location, we had an amazing view of the ocean and our room was amazing. We had a two room oceanview suite which had two balconies and two bathrooms YAY! The bed was amazing, and I could have stayed in there all day, had it not been for the fact I was in beautiful Maui and the weather was perfection!
The Marriott is very close to the Grand Wailea where others of our party were staying. Honestly, even though the Grand Wailea is known for being the best.... it was PACKED. We went over there a few times to visit, and were happy to come home to our peaceful sanctuary. We had such gorgeous pools, beautiful views, plenty of chairs, great pool-side service... I loved the quiet and peacefulness. I definitely was not there to party it up or have loud annoying noises in my ear all day.
Service was perfect, buffet in the morning was delicious. The path along the ocean is so nice to walk or run in the mornings. Beautiful grounds, impeccably maintained, multiple pools (infinity pool too!), cozy beds by some of the pools. We had a little mishap with a fire alarm on our floor, but the process was perfectly streamlined (makes you feel good in the event it was an emergency!) I came down in my cozy bathrobe they supplies and a towel on my head! Hey, its vacation.... oh well! Service was awesome, drinks were delicious, and the location was great! Go check out the shops at Wailea one day... its within walking distance and is a nice, small outdoor mall.
Ahhhh I miss it.

My husband and I loved our stay at the Wailea Marriott during the first week of February. We practically lived by the Infinity Pool, and despite driving around and checking out various places during our stay in Oahu, for Maui, we stayed mostly local, checking out a few restaurants in the Kihei area, and sticking with resort activities-- pool, spa, beachwalk strolls... The rate that we got for the hotel was fantastic, and we used some points to cover a night. I was impressed by the caliber of this Marriott and would definitely stay there again, if we don't do the Four Seasons next time!
Pros:
Infinity Pool- love at first sight. Unfortunately, it can get competitive, as others have noted. We got up at 8 am to reserve chairs during our stay.
The spa- intimate and amazing. The steam room was super hot-- just the way I liked it. The facial was one of the best I'd had, relaxing but also practical.
At night, you can hear the crashing of the waves on the rocks. So romantic!
The beachwalk-- which is fun to check out in the afternoon. There are two beaches nearby. We never went to the beach, as we were always lounging at the pool!
The bathroom was very clean and the tub was extra wide-- which I can appreciate, since I hate feeling like I'm clinging to the wall when I'm taking a shower!
Cons:
We were upgraded to an oceanview-- which means that if you scoot over to the right side of your lanai, you catch a glimpse of the beach.
That $25 a day resort fee-- which actually covers self-parking. So not, too bad.
The luau at the resort- This was a decent luau, with a decent show-- but paying $95 a head for the buffet style food and some of the cheesy Cirque du Soleil moments of their Polynesian style dancing/tricks left me less than thrilled. I guess that's what you get for falling into a tourist trap!
Because the entire resort is open air, you get the occasional small fly or insect stalking you in the bathroom.
The bed was fairly comfortable, but the frame was sort of cheap. Boo.
I enjoyed my 16 day stay at the Marriott but I didn't feel it was as nice a 4-star resort property as others I have stayed in while in Hawaii. I redeemed points for 7 nights and paid for the rest of the stay. The rooms have been updated and are fairly comfortable. The room size is spacious and as is the bathroom. I liked the little shelves/drawers under the sink vanity for your stuff and extra towels. The TVs are not flat screen but this didn't bother me as I'm not in Hawaii to watch TV.
The first room we were given in the main building shared a wall with the elevator shaft. It was so noisy! I asked to be moved to another room and the front desk found another room without issue. I really appreciated this, especially since it was about 10:30 pm and it took only about 20 minutes to change rooms. We stayed in the main building on the 7th floor (8 floors total). The view was considered a "no view" since it was a lower rate room (booked from Marriott's website). It looked towards the lobby and the parking structure but there were lots of trees that, for the most part, blocked the view of the parking structure. From the left side of the balcony and leaning over a little bit, I could see the ocean!
The resort grounds are well kept. My favorite aspect of this resort was the adult-only infinity pool. It was a lovely pool that overlooked the ocean. I saw so many whales from the pool areas during my stay, it was incredible! What a fantastic experience. There were times it was hard to find two available lounge chairs so this could be a problem and especially when they are at full capacity.
We ate at the poolside restaurant/bar one time and once we ordered food poolside. We thought the food was good. Of course, all prices in Hawaii are expensive but I thought the prices here were the same or a little bit less than other resort poolside restaurants ($13 for a cheeseburger, $8 for Maui onion rings, $14 fish sandwich). We ate breakfast on our last morning at Mala Restaurant. The food was okay but for the cost, $26.95 per person for the buffet, it was completely not worth it. The breakfast food quality was okay but there weren't as many food options as other breakfast buffets I've enjoyed. Not to mention, there are little birds that fly in/out of the open-air restaurant. This doesn't really bother me as it's a common thing in Hawaii and they had all the hot food covered with lids and the other things covered with plastic wrap. The problem was people didn't close the plastic wrap after they took some of whatever it was (toppings for the cereal, pastries, etc) and the birds had fun jumping into the bowls and snacking. Yuck!
We found most of the hotel staff to be friendly and helpful. Unfortunately I had a less than friendly front desk person help me one time and a waiter at the poolside restaurant/bar who was completely rude.
We had a soda explode in our fridge (our fault and we were sorry) but we had to call twice to have the fridge cleaned. We removed all our sodas and cleaned those ourselves but needed more towels and a bucket for water so we couldn't do it ourselves.
The parking situation is awful! There are not enough self-parking spaces for all hotel guests. Additionally, the parking spaces are so small. Most of the cars can barely fit in the spot so people use two spaces or infringe over the parking space line. It was frustrating because there were always so many empty valet spaces.
I got LOCKED in my hotel room! Apparently Maintenance had changed the room lock while I was out -- there was no notification this would happen. I was able to enter the room without issue but upon exiting, the deadbolt had somehow locked even though I didn't touch it. After repeated attempts at opening the door, I called the front desk and asked them to send someone to the room. Unfortunately I was on my way to an ocean cruise and was running late, this delay really made me run late. No one from the hotel called me after the fact to apologize for the inconvenience. I was very disappointed by the lack of concern and that work had been done in my room and I was never given advance notice.

You know you're on a true vacation when the most stress you have during the day is waiting to see if you have won the daily raffle for one of the "floating cabanas" in the infinity pool.
We stayed at the Marriott Wailea for a wedding, four nights, and four-plus extremely relaxing days. We were a bit shocked by the rates when we originally booked, but found that they kept dropping the rates as it got closer to our stay. So we re-booked at the lower rate, obviously. For what we wound up paying, we got a pretty decent value. The Marriott does earn an automatic spot on my nickel-and-dime list, however, for the aggravating $25/day "resort fee," which essentially gets you two free bottles of water every day.
The room we got, though in an odd spot overlooking the registration desk and restaurant entrance, was spacious and clean. The bed was above average comfy compared to other hotels. Lots of pillows, too.
We mostly stuck by the infinity pool, lounging around for hours on end. Seating gets a bit competitive, as we found people liked to "reserve" chairs by leaving towels and beach bags on them and then showing up hours later. What are you going to do? The pool is a self governing area. Get your stuff out early (and by early, I mean no later than 7:00 a.m.) if you want a chair beneath an umbrella.
The "floating cabanas" can be had for, ahem, $100. There are smaller, what I like to call, pods that go for $50. We didn't bother with either of these, but might have broken down had we not scored decent, shaded chairs. During our stay they would raffle off one of the floating cabanas if you purchased a Mai Tai between 10:30 - 11:30 (it's not as early as it sounds, factoring in the time zone difference!). Not sure if they do this during peak season.
The food at both restaurants was very good. There are a few other choices over at the Shops at Wailea if you need a change of pace. The luau was a lot of fun, too, though at $95 a pop, take advantage of the free alcohol.
The fourth star was awarded for the overall friendliness of the staff. We were greeted with smiles and alohas by virtually everyone we crossed paths with. Anyone who can keep up appearances after servicing hordes of strangers and their various messes rates highly in my book.

Just stayed here last week! Great option in Wailea. However, this is not a 5 star property as others have implied. We stayed at the Fairmont here before and knew that the Marriott would not be that same experience & we kept our expectations in check. This is a more affordable resort option that will still be really nice & beautiful, but a different experience.
The difference between the Marriott and the other resorts in Wailea (Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, Fairmont) is definitely "Service." If you have ever stayed at the other resorts I just mentioned, or at any true 5 star resort, you know what I mean. Every desire will be fulfilled before you even know you need/want it. Here, you aren't going to be welcomed with a lei and drink upon arrival, you might have to wait in line for 5 minutes at the front desk, there will only be one very busy server at the pool and you might have to wait 20 minutes to put in your order, and there isn't going to be turn-down service at night. Does that mean this is a bad property? Absolutely not. It just isn't a 5-star resort so don't expect it to be one. We received exactly what we expected and were still pleased.
We used points so things couldn't have been better than free, but I just had to look up the rates to see how it might compare to the Fairmont or Four Seasons. Right now the Marriott has an AMAZING package from $205-$255 per night including valet parking and $25 food credit. Now THAT is a deal. If the best deal you find for your dates makes the Marriott only $50-$75 less, then other Wailea properties going to be a FAR better experience. I'd definitely recommend the Marriott if you're using points or if you can get a great deal.
The additional cost at one of the other resorts will not only provide that "service" element that makes you feel like someone just appointed you king or queen, but it usually includes other perks like free yoga classes on the beach, free cabana (at Four Seasons vs $100 per day at Marriott), wonderful treats brought to you at the pool like cold towels and pineapple slices, staff magically knowing your name where ever you go, etc. The FS even offers free childcare during the day!
Like I mentioned, we used Points and had a fantastic experience. I reserved the lowest possible room because that was the only way we could truly have free nights. We were pleased to receive a complimentary upgrade to an oceanview room. This was truly oceanview too! I'd almost call it oceanFRONT. We were in Hale 4 overlooking the adult infinity pool with a front view of the ocean. Ahhh...No twisting of the neck or anything. Right there. We enjoyed drinks on the lanai each night (we bought offsite and stored in the empty fridge in the room - great perk) which was great & allowed us to save a lot of $ not needing to go to the hotel bar. We wouldn't have enjoyed that at our room if we didn't have that view!
However, housekeeping gets 1 star. On our first day, they didn't try to make up the room until 4:30pm when we were coming back to shower up for dinner. We just asked for towels and didn't have them clean it. The rest of the week was more reasonable. We never received all the toiletries each day. Many times we received shampoo & conditioner (which we didn't even need), but no lotion....or no body wash, although they could see it was missing or gone. I had to call to have some delivered. We would sometimes get 4 bath towels, but usually only 2. We showered at least twice a day, so having 4 was handy, especially when they cleaned the room late. They also didn't CLEAN. Dirty feet marks in the shower from being barefoot at the pool all day? Still there after housecleaning visit. Same goes for makeup on the bathroom counter - there all week. We walked into the room one time while they were servicing it to get something and they wash the glasses in the room in the bathroom sink. You don't get "new" ones. We had the ironing board out on Day 2, and they never put it away all week. They also swept, but never really cleaned if you could see dirty shoe marks somewhere (the whole room is tiled, so this is easy). I didn't complain, but it was quite frustrating & we were happy it was free. Like I mentioned before, this would never happen at the Fairmont or FS.
The property is really pretty and feels updated. It is nice & there are many loungers at the ocean to whale-watch, enjoy the sunset or just relax listening to the waves crash in.
It is also extremely wonderful that it is immediately next door to the Shops at Wailea - general store, coffee, Lapperts Ice Cream, restaurants, etc. We also loved that it was along the beach path allowing an easy walk to the other resorts for dining and recreation. An affordable & convenient option in Wailea! We seriously may not have needed a rental car!
Overall it was a good experience & I'd definitely go again with points or if I found a really good deal. If the price was comparable to FS or Fairmont, you know which I'd choose

A recent renovation makes this a bargain by Maui standards. Frankly, I preferred the design aesthetic to the Four Seasons at Lanai. Great entry foyer (very Balinese and understated), huge grounds (wonderful point with trees for sunset cocktails), a brand new fitness center and infinity pool (love the infinity pool), and restyled rooms that are "W Hotel meets beach", meaning, great linens and bed, low-key but really very nice design, beach-y colors. All that, and an excellent rate (by Hawaii standards). Again, I've been jaded by too many trips to Bali (where five-star hotels are so five star, and all at two-star prices), but this Marriott was solid. A definite recommend.
I didn't eat at the restaurant, but my friend who lives in Maui says that despite the celebrity chef, it's an ix-nay. (I tend to think that if you stick to simple (steak, sashimi) you can't go wrong at the pricey-but-lame fancy hotel restaurants in Hawaii, so I wouldn't be totally opposed to trying it if I find myself Maui-way again.)

Great pools and staff and yeah I got the cheap room again but it did have a view of the ocean and mountains as well as the parking lot. The gym was so-so and they don't have a swimmable beach but you can walk either way for 10 minutes and get a nice beach. I used the beach at Grand Wailea Hotel and it was great. The sunsets here in Wailea are tremendous! If I ever have the money I'll retire here in Wailea. It's beautiful. The Marriott Hotel is very nice with plenty of room and pools and very spread out. When I checked in I got two free drink tickets for the Kumu bar which I used the following day. The bartenders and servers at the pools were very personable. I loved the Infinity pool where you can just rest your arms on the ledge and look out over the ocean. Parking is plentiful and you're right next door to the Shops at Wailea--a very nice mall within walking distance. This Marriott and Wailea itself are very nice. I would return to both.

We stayed at the Wailea Marriott from April 26-May 1. We booked a Costco Travel package that included the daily breakfast buffet ($54, for two people, if purchaed a la carte), a $75 food and drink credit, and a complimentary room upgrade.
We had a regular oceanfront room in building 7 (they urged us to upgrade to deluxe oceanfront, but we elected not to; and, in hindsight, I doubt the view could have been much better than what we wound up with). The view was superb, and the room was clean, with excellent amenities. Our patio faced the location where the luau was held, which provided great entertainment for us.
Overall, the atmosphere at the hotel was excellent. The grounds were well-kept, the pools and other amenities in good working order.
The service at the hotel was fantastic. Each morning we went to the breakfast buffet and the staff were extremely friendly and attentive. The food was great, and left us energized and ready for a day of exploring.
Our friends have a condo in Maui, so we may stay there next time. Otherwise, I would not hesitate to stay at the Marriott again.
The worst pool-side food,
only option here for lunch,
and the service - ugh.

I have been to Oahu, Hawaii, Kaui and now Maui. The Marriott was the best accommodations I have had to date. Upgraded to Oceanfront view that also overlooked the stunning infinity pool. My friend and I spent many a moment lying under an umbrella, sipping a beverage, lounging in the pool and plotting on how to reserve the best spot ( I am not kidding we went down one time at 5am to choose our chairs).
Since I was here with friends I was very glad we did not feel over run with families (you have to mind your manners a little more around little ears and eyes). I am not a big believer in eating at the resort when you can find so much more options elsewhere. See my other reviews for same.
On a plus usually took a energized walk (south is better) along the paved beach path almost every morning and night. Beautiful sunsets.
The proximity to the shops at Wailea are within a block with several restaurants, abc store, and many high end stores if you want to drop some $.
I would stay here again.

It occurs to me just now that I never reviewed the hotel I stayed at during this past trip to Maui.
I have spent many vacations on Oahu, but this was my first time to Maui. It's quite different there from Honolulu - - everyone, and I mean everyone, is coupled up, and therefore all events and activities are geared towards couples. That said, at least they don't care if you're gay or straight, as the wonderful view to the ocean outside of my room was quite interestingly interrupted by two teen girls makin' out like only 16 year olds can.
The Wailea Marriott is fabulous.
Again, here is my list of "hotel-musts": http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Marriott had it all.
Upon check-in, we were upgraded to an oceanfront room. It was literally the best spot in the house, with unparalleled views to the ocean and sunset, and a sideways view to the famous Luau at this hotel. http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Since the room was not ready, they allowed us to use their guestroom to freshen up, shower, change into bathing suits, etc. All but sleep, since it had no bed and only chairs available in that room.
The guest room is all tiled, extending a feel of coolness, with a spacious seating area, pretty nice balcony, and a magnificently luxurious bed.
If I recall correctly, this hotel has FIVE pools. The one by the restaurant is good, the one below is better if want to feel like you are laying on the beach. There is also a child's pool, decent in size with an enormous slide structure that looked fun, even to me. The only time I'd pass this pool, though, I was fully dressed and never did utilize it. The Infinity Pool, however, is the best. Totally geared for only adults, it rents you cabanas for $100 per day, or smaller covered seating for $50 per day. Invest in the cabana - - it's worth it. Cocktail waitresses are hard to flag down at all but the Infinity Pool. The catch, though, is that you have to get down there early to grab seating at any of the better pools. Guests will come down and lay their claim on it with towels. Speaking of which, the front desk hands you towel cards. They are serious about it, so keep it with you whenever you are going to the pool.
A short walk from the Marriott is a small beach that is very well-known as the best snorkeling on Maui.
I almost got killed there because I went there basically at high tide, and came *THIS* close to drowning, suffering a concussion on the huge rocks, body-flung by waves, or having a massive anxiety attack. My first "water-scare" incident ever... but I lived. I never did make it out to the reef though. Given the fact that I am a really strong swimmer... this was most notable as never before have I gotten as freaked out in the ocean as I did on this day. Those huge rocks freak me out.
Room Service food is good, but not excellent. This is where Wailea Marriott gets dinged a star - - you can't be classified as 5 stars without great food service. With better food, this hotel would be hands-down 5 stars for me.
The valet folks are simply the best, with excellent service and tips. I can't recall the exact cost but self-parking was only some $3 cheaper than valet, which I believe was $25 per day. Definitely valet it at this hotel.
The lobby is breathtaking.
The lobby is where you begin your vacation at a hotel and is so important. Wailea Marriott's is covered, but wide open to the outside and so airy. With rattan or wicker seating everywhere, well-cushioned, the lobby is just perfect. Everytime I passed it, I felt like a load was lifted off my shoulders. It overlooks the ENORMOUS property this hotel sits on, and has direct views out to the ocean.
I should also note that this hotel is merely a 5 minute walk to the prestigious Shops at Wailea, which turned out to be quite useful.
All in all, though I hear the Fairmont Wailea is better - - this Marriott was the 2nd most impressive Marriott Hotel I have been to, after the JW Marriott in Seoul, Korea, which was mind-blowing. This is a huge compliment for me, considering I am not a big fan of Marriotts, in general.
'Twas an awesome trip, but like everything else, all good things must come to an end.

I was totally impressed by the Marriott when I stayed there. The rooms were sweet. The kiddie water playground was small but excellent. The service was nice. Fitness center was brand spanking new. I didn't do the luau but Mala Restaurants was really good. Here's a pretty good extensive review from a travel agent who is honest in his blog posts.
http://hawaiirama.com/...
I would definitely recommend this hotel. Its on a nice piece of property that has a long shoreline and a few points where you can sit and have an unobstructed view of Molokini to the West Maui mountains. Several pools, each a little different. My only ding about the pools was that they aren't heated. At this isn't just me being picky- there was nobody in them. The layout (several smaller buildings scattered over the property instead of one huge building) makes it seem like you aren't staying at a mega resort. Rooms are nicely appointed- sort of a tropical/asian theme going on. Poolside food is OK, but the menu is short and gets old after two days or so.
I'm shocked to see that this hotel has a five-star rating. While it's not a dump, it's not what I was expecting based on the prices they charge (used points, so didn't care much, but had we spent $ on this, there'd be a nasty note going to Mr. Marriott right about now).
Maid service was TERRIBLE. Being the good people that we are, we tracked her down the first day and gave her a generous tip, followed by nice tips each day (note: by "we", I mean BF). By the end of the week she wasn't even wiping down the sink.
My back is still recovering from the bed. Aren't Marriotts supposed to be known for their beds? This was so soft, at time I actually would wake up from the sinking into the bed feeling.
There is no indoor lunch option on the hotel grounds. It is HOT in Maui during the day. At lunch I want to escape inside after a morning on the beach and enjoy some food and a cool drink. No can do. Lunch outside on the patio.
The hotel grounds are lovely, the beach area is FANTASTIC, especially for snorkeling, and the staff was generally pleasant. The local luau was nice as well. It's a decent hotel, but I had we had to spend our own money on it, we'd not be happy people right now.

We recently stayed at Wailea Marriott Resort while we were vacationing in Maui. The Marriott just recently finished their $60M renovation & it was evident. The rooms were spacious & beautiful, & the bed was to die for! The staff was very friendly & accomodating.
The snorking in Wailea was pretty good. We didn't see any sea turtles on the day we went, but they are supposed to be prevalent in Wailea. The sunsets here are very picturesque as well. The hotel restaurant served one of the best meals we had in Maui for a reasonable price.
Skip the luau here though. Very cheesy & commercialized. The food was okay, but the entertainment was anything but authentic. We wanted to go to the Old Lahaina Luau, but they were booked for 4 weeks in advance. We can see why!
I agree with Beth C. This place does not deserve 5 stars! Walk down the street/beach to the other Wailea properties. The Four Seasons and The Fairmont are deserving of 5 stars!
I staid here for 3 nights at the end of their construction. Finishing up on the new pool. While we were upgraded to their ocean front room, it was right next to the construction...always a reason. Since I used my Marriott points to pay for the stay, I can't complain too much since it didn't cost me anything...but it did take away a lot of my points. If I had to actually pay with my own money, I'd be at the Four Seasons or Fairmont in a hearbeat! The nightly rates are pretty close, and the level of service is not even comparable.
The rooms are nothing special. Typical Marriott. I expect more since this is one of their "resort" hotels. Their remodel job is ok. This hotel also nickel and dimes you on everything. The self-parking garage fee is $20/day. Seems steep when there is plenty of parking and they're not in a big city.
I had dinner at DUO Restaurant in the Four Seasons my last night. The service from entry to exit is exceptional. Wish I staid there the whole stay, as you want to be spoiled when you are on vacation.
I didn't bother trying the restaurants in the hotel. There are plenty of other good places close by.
We stayed here before the renovation and even then it was a beautiful space to relax and enjoy yourself. Having stayed in Maui twice (the other time in Kapalua at the Ritz), we made the trip all the way back to Wailea because we loved it so much.
A big plus here at the resort was the small beach that was only a short walk away. It was small enough to feel private, whereas the other beaches to the left (where the Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, etc. were) was just too crowded for us. The proximity to restaurants and a mall (nothing that you can't get at home, even the ABC shop!) is very nice as well.
Food is whatevas, but you will love your view and how even at this big resort, you feel like you're in your own space and time. We will definitely return here.
I liked this place. It was smaller and lower key than Waikaloa where I stayed a few months ago on the big island and I kind of liked that since I had more time and was not making the resort the destination for my visit. I found the hotel to be convenient to excursions and cool places to go out in more relaxed Kihei. I did go to Laheina once for the old Laheina luau (which was fantastic). Although Laheina was cool I was happy to have staid in lower key Waihlea.
I found the gym to be very adequate for keeping in shape. They have about 5 tread mills and 4 or 5 elliptical machines for cardio. They also have some decent machines and a free weight bench with a decent amount of dumb bells.
I had a very good deep tissue massage at the spa and liked that using the spa steam room was included with the price of the room.
The grounds and room were nicely appointed but not extravagant or anything. The Jacuzzis were nice and hot. I liked the efficiency of the towel exchange desk and the house keeping staff. Nice and laid back and conveniently located to the volcano and Big and Little beach, I will come back here if I get the chance.
The Wailea Marriott is probably the best value on the Wailea coast. It is substantially cheaper than the Grand Wailea, the Four Seasons, and the Fairmont and has just as wonderful a view from the ocean-facing rooms. The dining at the Marriott improved immensely recently with the opening of Ma La and the rennovation has improved the rooms and bathrooms by leaps and bounds. The beds are still a bit bumpy, the sheets are not as high a thread count as other places nearby but, you don't expect anything better at a Marriott. The grounds are nice, the staff was friendly though not super attentive, and if you are a family with kids this place is great. If you want quiet, however, don't expect to get it in any rooms that face the pool.
I have stayed at this hotel more times than I can tell you, but not since their major renovation last summer. Even so, I know this area like the back of my hand, and I don't have even one negative thing to say about it.
The reason I like the Marriott is for its very spacious and relaxing environment. It's not quite at the level of chic and class that the Grand Wailea and 4 Seasons are (to the left as you face the beach), but it feels so much more like you are in Hawaii...lovely, relaxed and tropical. This is the place you can bring your whole family, and there is something for everyone to enjoy. It is also very wheel chair accessible, and fairly easy to navigate the smooth, wide sidewalks along the beach, pool area, and throughout the hotel property.
The rooms are quite nice, and there were a variety of room types from suites, to singles, to studio kitchenettes. However, this was prior to the renovation. You should double check what is available now. Before, they were always nice, clean, well-appointed, comfortable, and had lovely views of the ocean and islands of Molokai, and Lanai. I can only imagine that this was improved during renovation.
Another wonderful feature was the separation of the two pool areas. One area was specifically geared to small children and families, and the other to older children, teens and adults. I have never been here when I saw children getting wild and out of hand, like I often saw at Ka'anapali. I did see a group of models get drunk and go skinny dipping one night, though. lol! the men loved that. The management made them put their clothes on and leave.
I can't say enough about the front desk staff, as they were always gracious, friendly and warm, helpful with suggestions for activities, dining, and shopping. The bar tenders and restaurant staff have always been pleasant, as well. I stayed here for a total of more than 100 days (not all at once), so I saw them over a variety of seasons and circumstances, including post 9-11 when all the islands were seriously hurting for tourists, and people were getting laid off in droves. Yes, hotel staff does change, so check ratings of people who have stayed there in the last few months before you book.
One of my favorite things about this area is that it is a calm, peaceful tourist area that doesn't feel uber touristy. The Shops at Wailea are within walking distance, as well as a number of other restaurants. If you stand facing the beach, to the left are the 2 aforementioned upscale hotels and their beach, which tends to be a little busy, but not annoyingly so. If you follow the beach path/sidewalk to the right, you will pass some condos, and shortly come upon a crescent shaped beach where you can lay out, swim, or snorkel.
If you snorkel, this is the beach you want. You can wade in at the sandy center, or continue walking around the crescent to the far right tip, where there is a rocky area with trees. Here, you can leave your towel and bottle of water, and snorkel around the rocks to encounter some of the most beautiful tropical fish, giant rays, and sea turtles, you can see in the archipelago. Now, currents have a lot to do with visibility, so check with the front desk for the water and rip current conditions. I've never had a problem the many times I have snorkeled there, and I snorkel alone, but I always checked the conditions first. I usually spent anywhere from 2-3 hours snorkeling on days that I chose to do this, and I saw so much, and it was free!!!! I have snorkeled in the rocky area directly in front of the Marriott, as well, but honestly, it was rather uninteresting. Isn't it funny how two areas so close together can yield such different marine life?
One of my favorite things to do upon arrival (at night) is throw my swim suit on and either go for a swim in the ocean (if there is a moon), or jump in the hot tub and watch the moon rise, and the stars come out. This sets the tone for my entire stay. I immediately go into an island state of mind. It also helps me sleep really well, so I can wake up rested, and begin my busy day, snorkeling, hiking, shopping, walking up and down the beach, etc.
I hope you enjoy yourself if you decide to stay here. I will definitely go back and stay at this property.

Contrary to the other review, I loved this place. I attended a work conference here and my room was immaculate! It had 1 king size bed and we had a view of the ocean. Beautiful! We also had a cute little patio where me and my boyfriend had our breakfast. It had a beautiful pool that spilled out into the ocean and a cute little bar where you could order food as well. After that visit, I now would like to retire there!

my heart yearns to return to this place.
as this is the most breathtakingly, indescribably beautiful resort hotel i have ever seen in my life...
this isn't a stuffy, ostentatious hotel filled with uptight people - and everything about this hotel reflects that.
..simple, clean, light, airy, wide open space everywhere, and so natural-looking.
our suite was also extraordinary - spacious, clean, bright, a beautiful view of the ocean, quiet, lovely beds and decor.
we stayed here for four nights, and while we were there, they had a musician playing hawaiian music by the pool every night. oh and their outdoor pool and jacuzzi was absolutely gorgeous as well.
the hotel is situated alongside other hotels like the grand wailea and the four seasons, and my parents woke up early to take walks on the sidewalk right by the beach along this hotel and others, watching the sunrise.. they say that it was a majestic experience as well as their favorite part of the trip. i,um, slept during this time.
and the bell staff was the friendliest i have ever seen. and there was a young korean bell boy who was the cutest, nicest thing. ah.. if only i hadn't been with my family...
anyway.
i just cannot stop raving about this hotel.
this is a wonderful, happy, and beautiful place.

We stayed at the Marriott during the last week of Feb and had a wonderful say. We had an ocean front room with an amazing view, and were able to watch the whales jump from our balcony. The rooms were recently renovated. I thought the bed was incredibly comfortable and one of the best hotel beds that I've ever slept in. I also liked the location near the mall. Minus one star because I thought the noise from the hall entered the room easily because the floors in the hall and in the room were tile and there was no strip at the bottom of the door to prevent bugs and noise from entering.
