We've been to both Wahoos in Cuperitno and Santana Row. This review is for Cupertino Wahoo's.
Both service and food were inconsistent.
A few times they have gotten our orders wrong.
A few times they were either generous with the portion size or very stingy other times.
A few times the dishes have come out cold. Almost made me think that they just microwave to heat up your food.
Many times their fish is not fresh. In fact, the fish had a stench smell and had a rubbery hard texture unlike fresh fish. I will not be ordering fish taco there anymore
The only thing that's been consistent was their staff checking on you even though it's a 'bus your own table' kind of place.
If they maintain a good consistency and improve the quality of their food, we would go there more often as it is moderaly healthy place to eat (unless you eat the fried items).
We ordered fish tacos and a shrimp burrito. The burrito was okay. The fish tacos were not. I bit into it and I thought I was chewing a piece of dry chicken meat. I inspected it, it was fish, just tough and dry fish. Since the name of the place is named after the fish tacos, it is a total disappointment to get sub-par fish tacos.
I had wonderful fish tacos in Cancun before, the juicy fish meat flakes off in your mouth. I still have not found the same in the US yet. I guess I am spoiled.
Visited this place for dinner on a business trip last week. I can't join the fan club based on that dinner.
I had the 2 fish taco plate. The best part of the meal was the Pacifico. Second best part were the tasty corn tortillas wrapping the tacos. However the tacos might as well have been some sort of meatless version because it was impossible to taste fish. They were really pretty boring. The black beans on the plate were also amazingly bland. Staff was friendly though.
I too much prefer Rubio's for fish tacos...
I love fish tacos. Frankly, Wahoos' fish tacos are not the best. If you want fish tacos that fall into the "bomb" category, you need to go to Chez David B. But I digress. The food here is certainly fresh. Cheap & good beer, too ($9.99 pitchers of Sierra, Gordon Biersch, Longboard). But the reason I keep coming back here is the staff. They are easily the nicest, happiest, friendliest fast food staff anywhere. Ever. In fact, never mind the fast food qualifier; they are just nice people. You would be forgiven for thinking that the Wahoo's staff actually care about you. Martin, one of the current managers, is a super-nice guy who goes out of his way to chat with me every time I'm there.
My only regret is that Wahoo's is so cheap I feel that I never spend enough money there. Even when I order a pitcher. Just for me.
Umm fish tacos I had here were not anywhere near as good as RUBIO'S.
My fish taco was dry, and no one likes a dry fish taco. Really though- all perverted jokes aside--the fish was so dry, I could barely taste it. Tortilla was mediocre and service was alright. Wahoo has a fun atmosphere for those who are into skating, it feels like Zumiez...with food. Sorry...I can definitely find better fish tacos elsewhere...such as mentioned above, Rubios or Día de Pesca ....MmMmmmm
The first time I had Wahoos was with two of the brothers/founders of Wahoos and the marketing manager. Talk about everyone being so friendly and gracious! A manager generally comes out to greet you during your visit to make sure everything is fabulous.
The food was great. I always order the fish taco (they are famous for their fish tacos) platter and Woody orders the Wahoo's bowls. They are also known for their healthy menu.
The place is decorated with tasteful decals of sponsors, supporters (skate/surf/board/etc). It's definitely an awesome vibe.
I'm going to call Wahoo's grossly overrated and overhyped. I've been wanting to try it for quite some time and was totally disappointed. I'm a fan of fish tacos - and Wahoo's caught my eye, and their reputation made me believe I was getting something fantastic.
I ordered the #2 - Spicy Fish Taco, Spicy Chicken Enchilada, brown rice, spicy white beans. I love spicy food and this spice was all wrong. Spiciness with flavor is ideal, this was "just make it hot" spicy - no love behind it. The chicken, fish and beans all tasted the EXACT same, hot. The fish and chicken was really overcooked with ZERO juiciness. Enchilada sauce was pretty good.
Cool decor and surfer dude theme, OK prices, mediocre food. But don't believe the hype - this place is no better than Baja Fresh or Rubio's. And in the TMI department - this place had me running to the john within an hour.
I had 2 fish tacos. They were good but nothing outstanding.. I could totally make something like this at home.
We got the spicy fish taco's with mixed beans. This food tasted really fresh and I didn't feel like I needed to go on a diet afterwards. The rice that came with this meal was sooo tasty, almost like it was buttered :)
The Cupertino Wahoo's has done a complete 180! I have eaten there 4 times in the past 3 weeks. The food and service has been perfect everytime. Wing must have cracked some heads after my last few visits. Great job Wahoo's!

The girl who took my order, Roxy, is an idiot. My wife and I had to repeat our order to her twice… Read more »
Living in California my whole life I had never been to one till a while ago we went to the one in Santana Row and yesterday we came here. I love that the food is actually spicy spicy just the way I like it and I loves the whole surfer theme to it and the shopping center its in is jus wonderful!
Potsicker King and Beard Papa's oh man its great here. Plus the waitresses are very friendly and are always taking care of you. Definitely coming back here :)
Wahoo's is OK. It's not amazing, it's not terrible, it's just OK.
I got a fish taco, a shrimp taco, and chips and salsa and guac. I've been craving guac, so I was pretty excited. The guac I ate was too creamy and tasted bland. Some more seasoning and texture could've helped it out. Chips and salsa turned out as expected.
The fish taco was OK as well. Not amazing, not terrible. Fish was slightly overcooked, but it's okay b/c the dish is the entire taco and not just the fish. All the other ingredients combined together to be OK.
The shrimp taco well, yea. Just OK. Shrimp was cooked a bit better than the fish, but the taco itself didn't particular excite me in any way except for satiating my hunger.
Prices were OK for the food. Not too high, not too low. Would I be jumping out of my pants to go back? Not particularly. Would I avoid it like the plague? That's a bit extreme as well.
Buzz word for the day: OK.
Additional note: Their green tabasco tasted off. Maybe I'm just too use to how it tastes on a Chipotle burrito.
I love fish tacos. I just wish they weren't so plain... How about adding some more stuff in there???
1 Star- Price is super reasonable and service is great for a semi-fast food place
2 Star- Pepsi products and therefore fountain Mt. Dew!
3 Star- Fresh tasty chips
4 Star- Beans beans beans! I like them both, but my fiancé dreams about the Cajun spiced beans.
5 Star- Delicious and spicy and not overly greasy fish tacos
(If I could add a 6th bonus star for it being super close to a Beard Papa's, I would)
We eat there so much we have had to measure it out - love their bowls - I like the wahoo bowl and now they have salads (yes!) - the brown rice seems like colored white rice - their- grilled fish is good with lime - grilled veggies used to have more squahes and variety but now mostly peppers - oh well - video's up until the change of ownership were fun - surfing skiing skating - now with too many catering comercials with hooter-like girls - don't even watch it anymore when I go - so sad - if I came in new probably would not be as impressed -
As a vegetarian this place does offer non-meat items. They are literally veggies. Crazy just a bit. The sauce they use for the veggies is like a teriyaki sauce. At first I was like whoa, then I grew to love it and finished my whole taco. I think it is scam that you have to pay $1.50 for chips and salsa. But I guess.
The place is very clean, the staff were really nice. I just wish that they put beans in their tacos instead of all these healthy veggies.
I'm always confused when I come here. One time I ordered a bonzai burger not realizing it was basically teriyaki flavored. It was really disgusting. I would NOT recommend it, so then after I got a plain quesadilla and those are pretty hard to mess up. I guess I just have an expectation of mexican quality food here and it's bland and americanized. I can say the shrimp tacos are good though. Thank god for that saving grace.
I came here earlier today for a lunch with my friend. The location is tucked in a plaza by Vallco with a vast parking lot so parking was super easy to find. We entered the restaurant with almost nobody there except for 1 person eating and the workers.
The decor is nice and I felt like I was in a really lax environment. The person who took my order was really friendly and talked using slang and incorrect grammar, I was surprised by this since i'm used to the robotic language always used in normal food chains.
I ordered the 2 fish enchilada combo plate with a fountain drink. Free refills are always awesome although I was cool off of one pepsi, trying to watch the portion control, ha. My friend ordered the 2 spicy fish taco combo and we traded an enchilada for a taco. The food is yummy and I like Wahoo's better than Rubio's. The portions are immense as I couldn't finish all my black beans and rice.
This was my first time trying it and since the Santana Row location is closer to my workplace I think i'll be heading there from now on. Good job Wahoo's.
This location is much bigger than I thought! The inside has a surfing/beach environment and is filled with stickers that were put by customers apparently.
I didn't actually try their fish tacos, but i tried their banzi burrito and it was GREAT. The burrito was HUGE that I had to eat it with a fork and knife. I got it "wet" (LOL) and was better than I thought.
The prices were a little high but fair considering the amount that I got with my meal.
TB, Fatty and I used to come here all the time when we worked in Cupertino.
Tonight, I met K and little K here for dinner. As usual, I had two shrimp tacos a la carte. The shrimp tacos were excellent - lots of cabbage, some salsa, and succulent shrimp. Someone came by and checked on us. TWICE. You don't see that in McDonald's...
Will I come here again? You bet ya.
This place is just fine, for what it is. This isn't really Mexican food, but I don't think anybody's kidding themselves in to believing it is. What this place lacks in authenticity it makes up for with fresh and light food. Mexican food isn't known for being light or healthy, and this place manages to usually have both of those covered.
Good for a quick meal before heading to Vallco to catch a movie at AMC.
Pretty disappointing fish for a place that prides itself as a fish taco place. Had the Wahoo salad which looked so scrumptious - generous portions of lettuce, guacamole, and salsa topped with a couple of nice sized pieces of grilled fish covered with a spicy rub. However, the fish was hard, rubbery, and way overcooked - I really had to work to pull off a piece with my fork.
The place itself looks like a fun casual place with Hawaii and surfer theme.
Bottom line: Great looking Wahoo salad but the so overcooked fish killed it. Fun looking place, be willing to give them another try,
A great place to hang out and relax , it's great for a big group since there's plenty of room. And there's more dining in the patio section.
I've had lunch a couple of times here. I liked their quesadilla, tried their enchiladas and might've tried their bowl.
You can't miss their menu; it's huge! I've often had great service here and would only come here when friends suggest it.
Blechhh..! Broccoli in my burrito? No thanks! My Banzai burrito came with fish, pico de gallo, BROCCOLI, hella black beans, rice, and some other veggies. Overall, not that great of a combination. I shoulda looked at the menu more carefully. I like my broccoli with beef, not dried up fried fish.
The fish tacos were also really plain and had no flavor whatsoever. It must have been because the tortilla was just stuffed with a crap load of cabbage.
Okay, I'm being harsh. Plus 1 star for cute decor. :)
A good, quick alternative to the more pricey Santana Row fare. The fish tacos are the only thing I've ever ordered, and they are pretty good even if unremarkable.
Although the Santana Row location is just a few blocks away from home, I always choose to go this location instead and I eat here at least 2x a month.
The people that work at this Wahoo's are great. They are all friendly and attentive in making sure your stay is appreciated (assuming you're eating in). I've tried at least half of what's on the menu, but the fish taco combo with mixed beans gets the most picks. The tacos remind me of a slightly larger Rubio's street taco...instead of guac, cilantro and onions they have shredded lettuce and cheese. And they taste way better.
On a nice day, you can comfortably eat outside in the back patio, but if you like a little sun, this might not be as great for you considering there are a lot of trees that shade the patio area. Take my word. Service and food legit!
Yummay! I love Wahoo's twist on tacos. I normally order the two taco combo with fish. But today, I decided to try the carne asada and it was excellent. My friends ordered the shrimp tacos and they said they were really good. I also got rice and spicy beans with my plate. The spicy beans are awesome! It's got a good kick to it, not too spicy.
Ok, now to my favorite part. Every month, they select a different beer to be "beer of the month". The "beer of the month" is $1.99. Oh, hell yea! How do you beat that? It's available all day long, not just for happy hour or anything like that. Two bucks is super cheap to get me glowing like Rudolph's nose.
Woohoo! After eating here in southern CA, got to get a piece of the action up here. I had the #2 and water(its good for you). I got a nice staff and quickness of the food getting to us.
The place is nice, its got the skater/surfer look with the stickers(they give you FREE stickers if you ask) but nice sturdy tables and chairs(with stickers on them too) and metal forks served with an actual plate. The portions are served as if you are at a somewhat pricey restaurant plus a few TV's showing the game.
I think I found my new place to go eat and hang out.
I've been here once only to try the fish tacos. Hmm, I can't really remember my visit so it must have been just eh.
What I do remember was the place was cool and clean, but that's about it. No whoo, aw's or anything really memorable.
I'll give them another shoot and update again. =/
I love Wahoo's and was so glad to find this one when I moved back to Cali. I like to think of myself as a Fish Taco connoisseur, and Wahoo's is high up there on my list. And there rice and black beans that accompany my tacos are also excellent.
Every time i visit this particular location everyone is very friendly and I never have to wait to long for my food. And of course you have to spend some time taking in the decor. I love all the stickers on the wall and the X-Games oriented sports playing on the TV.
Try the passion ice tea, it is one of the reasons I go.
Oh and to top it all off, this particular Wahoo's is located across the parking lot from Yogurt Land, the best place to go for dessert.
What a pleasant surprise.
My sister and I were looking for a quick dinner, which usually involves lots of grease, and a case of MAD guilt, but not at Wahoos.
Sarah S. and I ordered basic nachos, a burrito and a side of taquitos. Everything was really fresh, tasted great and came pretty quick.
I like the laid back atmosphere and ample parking.
We walked out with full tummy's but not that weighed down greasy "I hate myself" feeling, so we will definatley be back. We have already thought of other friends that would totally dig the place.
For $4.50 I got two delicious fish soft tacos, one was regular fish and the other was cajun rubbed. Both were served on two corn tortillas, with thinly sliced cabbage, pico de gallo and a sprinkle of cheese. To make the meal seem larger I separated the two tortillas and made an additional taco. Two tacos was now four... so industrious of me, eh?!
Plenty of fresh, tasty food. And just like Alicia k. wrote, you leave with a full tummy that isn't weighed down with greasiness.
You know, with Wahoo's, I probably would have given it 4 stars a few years ago, but over time, it just seems to have lost some of it's original appeal. First of all, the Kalua Pig Bowls used to be served in bowls, now they are served on plates. Now this seems like it shouldn't make a difference if the flavors are the same, but in actuality it kind of does. You see, I used to stir all the goodies up in the bowl mixing it in, mashing it up, and now, on a plate, I just can't seem to do that. Secondly, I get the whole fresh tacos dealio, but sometimes I like my baja style fish tacos battered and deep fried. It just adds a level of texture to the tacos. Wahoo's tacos taste alright, but once you bite in, it's just a bunch of mush in the mouth, the cabbage almost adds some crunch, but not really. It's close to my buddys house so we find ourselves eating there quite a bit, but it's more of a filler rather than a treat. Then again, the endless supply of surf, skate and snow vids on the tv's keep me coming back as well!
#3 classic with black beans and rice. Yum.
I'm not usually a shrimp fan unless it's in the form of tempura, but I really like the shrimp burrito. Sounds odd, but it really is delicious!
My favorite fast food joint at the moment. A perfect place for a cheap, quick bite when you're in a hurry but don't want to resort to those artery-clogging burgers and fries.
They offer "an eclectic Mexican/Brazilian/Asian menu" and a "Hawaiian vibe." Yes - highly confusing, but very intriguing.
I crave for the wahoo bowls (either chicken or fish) and banzai burritos. You can get the meat or fish 1) flame-grilled, 2) blackened, or 3) teriyaki. I believe flame-grilled to be the best option. The fish and meat are often hard and not exactly appetizing...but hey, they're good enough for fast food. The ahi rice and black beans aren't bad either.
When inside, I try to fool myself that I'm in Hawaii... never works, unfortunately.
Im not too big on wahoo's but I was here before I hit up Beard papa's.
The place is covered in stickers just like the Santana Row location. Unused skateboards and furniture. The burrito's have a garden of greens in them and not so much meat.
Dont be suprized if you see a ton of Asian kids here... you are in Cupertino.
Let's go back
Back to the beginning
Back to when the earth, the sun, the stars all aligned
'Cause perfect didn't feel so perfect

Wahoo is the type of place you would expect to find the cast of Laguna Beach hanging out in between takes of their so called "reality" show. I swear LC and Kristen had a real life stand off here on who was better for Stephen in between munching on their fish tacos (I still say Kristen... LC is sooo boring). However, I may have to resort to my Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County DVD library for reference.
Anyhow, the point I'm trying to make is that Wahoo has that whole So Cal surfer extreme sports vibe going on.
The food is pretty good in a So Cal meets Tex Mex meets Hawaiian type of way. It's kind of like a Baja Fresh, but better. Their specialty is their fish tacos, so make sure you try them.
I brought my grandson here for dinner after spending the afternoon with him at the Children's Musical Theater's production of "School House Rock."
I love the food here - it's always fresh. It's also great to bring little ones here as you can get their food quickly (they can be so impatient when they're hungry!) and satisfy their little tummies so that you don't get so crazy.
The bowls are really great. They're satisfying enough for two people or one person with a hearty appetite Lots of veggies, meat, rice and beans in a bowl - it's a very healthy, complete meal.
The great thing about being a grandma is that you can always bring them home after they've worn you out.
Evonne and I stopped in here for a quick bite before going to see Role Models. I had the Banzai Burrito, wet. with spicy fish. It was very tasty. Evonne had a shrimp burrito and seemed satisfied.
The place is clean. The service is prompt. The decor is great. The noise level is fine for carrying on a conversation. They could use a couple more booths.
I will definitely come back.
I went here for lunch and had their fish tacos, which was excellent. Their beer special is cool, $2 for Heineken can't beat that!!!
