We didn't eat because as soon as we walked in we could tell it was a bad decision. On our way to the table our waitress stopped to talk to another table who was complaining there was a hair in their food. So we awkwardly stand there while she questions these customers about the hair. Asking where is it... oh its blonde!? No blondes in kitchen! She then sits our menus on a table and walks to the kitchen.... we then choose to get the hell out if there.... we came down to ericas cafe and are having a much more pleasant experience.

What a bad experience. As soon as I walked in, I knew it was going to be bad. The table was sticky, the floors were dirty, and the place was almost empty.
The pecan waffle wasn't too bad. The pecans tasted old, and had the flavor of whatever plastic container they had been sitting in.
The potatoes were cold, undercooked, and greasy.
As the meal continued, they got even more terrible as the grease really started to run across the plate. They also had zero salt or pepper.
When I mentioned the lack of seasoning to the cashier, she admitted they do not use salt or pepper because of customer preference.
Yuck.
Avoid this place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Bryon B.Citrus Heights, CA0123Dec 22, 2015
The food and the service there was mediocre at best!
Service was slow for only having 2 or 3 booths taken, and the eggs benedict was over cooked and after waiting an extended amount of time we didn't have time to send it back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sara F.Fair Oaks, CA1066852Feb 4, 2011
So far this place has not done us wrong. Its a step above ihop and Dennys and they have great specials. We are newbies to the sac area and this is the only breakfast place we have been back to.
The portions are huge which makes my husband tickled. The food is solid breakfast fare. The eggs are done well the waffles are crisp and the pancakes are fluffy.
We always look in the mailer Val-pack for a 2 for 1 coupon, which is an awesome deal.
The ambiance is ehh, could be better, real country but kinda fits the place. The service has always been on point. We have Lotis frequently when we go she is nice, prompt and efficient. If you are in the Citrus Heights area and need a solid hearty breakfast this is a safe place.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Joseph M.Antioch, CA325617596Nov 2, 2015
Prices were really good and the food was ok. Everything came out after a long wait cold or warm at best. We waited so long I'm sure the food was sitting at least 10 minutes to get so cold but we were all super hungry so pounded the food. Bacon was really good but for being a waffle house. .....i was shocked that the waffles were crap. Bland and soft. No crunch or browned at all. TERRIBLE. Value for price was good but they need to work on the service and the place looks run down and hasn't been updated since the 70's!

No, just.......no. This corner of Citrus Heights, with this place along with Linda's pizzeria, is a good food desert, and should just be bypassed.
I could almost forgive the inconsistent service, but it did ruin our meal. If we get meal combos that are breakfast, they should all be served together, with everyone's meal. Case in point....I got the omelet and a half waffle, my sister got an omelet and potatoes. It was weird to get my waffle with no omelet, her to get an omelet with no potatoes, and have to wait almost 5+ minutes for the rest of our food.
Now then, the taste.......
My bro-in-law ordered chicken strips as an appetizer. Gosh, can you say barely microwaved correctly much? "This appetizer brought to you by Tyson chicken fingers."
The omelets were not cooked properly as the cheese was not good quality....as evidenced by the liquid pus of fat dripping out of our omelets causing them to get wet real quick. Tim's bacon waffle had a randomly placed flaccid looking strip of bacon on top of a waffle. My plain waffle was decent, not spectacular.
Sorry Waffle Square, but there will not be a return visit. I would have been just as happy with an Egg McMuffin and a microwaved Eggo.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Betty R.Sacramento, CA1697440582May 3, 2012
Eek! Methinks not is exactly the way I feel about this place. This morning I went in with my sister and her son. I was really looking forward to becoming a regular at this place but after 15 minutes there I realized that was all I could stand.
We walked in and the waitress sat us at the booth right by the door, next to a table that still had a dirty rag on it and far away from every other customer. She was working the floor alone. I asked her if there was any other table available to what she answered that all the tables by the window were full. I saw 2 empty booths. She asked if we wanted something to drink and we ordered 2 coffees. She brought them back and before we could say anything she left. We had no milk for the coffees and patiently waited to get her attention so we could ask for it. 8 minutes went by and she didn't even bother to look in our direction. The manager took a glance over our direction but continued about his business. At this point aggravation started to set in and that is not my idea of a good breakfast. It is definitely not my idea of a $10.00 plate of eggs either. Their prices are a little high.
Did she sit us so far away from everyone else because there was a kid with us? Did she think we were lesbian lovers and felt the need to hide us? Did she want to exercise by having to walk so far between us and the other customers? I don't know what it was but it was a very bad move on her part because I am the type of person that loves giving my business to local businesses and that if I fall in love with a "spot" I will visit it often, recommend it and YES, Yelp about it.
We stood up and I told the manager what had happened. He said he could take care of us but by this point we were turned off and figured that the nice people at Denny's up the block would love to have us.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 6Oh no 0 - Mar 31, 2014
'Siri' guided us to the Waffle Square, Saturday morning. It didn't disappoint. If you're looking for 'fancy', this spot isn't your place. It had more of a 'truck stop' vibe going on, but it was comfy. Our waitress was very sweet and accommodating with our orders... I am a handful sometimes and wanted an all egg white omelet. It wasn't a problem, nor was substituting a pancake instead of toast OR getting gravy with my side biscuit (which I WISH I was able to eat). My fajita omelet had a lot of chicken in it, so I was happy. A girl needs her protein! Boo's Popeye omelet looked really good too - how can you really ever go wrong with spinach and sausage?! Our tab came to just over $26 and we left full. I'd return! I wish that Yelp had a 1/2 star option... I'd def say this was a 3.5 star experience.

Waffle strawberry topping: sour, meaning they were past their prime by at least a week.
Coffee: on the weak side. Waitress offered a refill, which was nice. (A bit pricey at $2 for 12 oz.)
Service: very quick, pleasant waitress.
Food was 2/5, waitress 4/5 so average of 3/5.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chris G.Redmond, OR55418Feb 6, 2016Updated review
Ladies and Gentlemen,
This restaurant is closed! Apparently they have finally given up!
Letter on the door thanked all for their patronage and explained they were done!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Nov 10, 2013Previous reviewWell where do I start! My wife and I decided to try this place again. In the past they have been alright, not great but not too bad.
We noticed they have a new name, and some outside improvements. The name has been changed. It now is WAFFLE SQUARE COUNTRY DINER.
We wanted to see what they had done to the menu and interior. The changes inside were minimal. The menu looks nicer, not like the previous one, but the the service is NOT up to par!
We were seated and waited a few minutes for the waitress to come and get our drink order. She came to the table and took our full order, as we were ready.
My wife ordered the breakfast burrito, and asked for her toppings for it to be put on the side, with hashbrowns.
I ordered the breakfast sampler with my eggs scrambled hard, no sausage, 4 bacon and 2 ham strips, hashbrowns and wheat toast.
We got our drinks and waited. After 30 MINUTES the waitress informed us it would be up shortly. After watching the passline counter we saw there was some major confusion. We watched the waitresses glance towards our table, and continue to talk to the cooks.
At the 45 MINUTE mark, we got up and informed the waitress we were leaving! I told her having to wait this long for eggs was unacceptable! She just said she was sorry.
What we really were upset about was the fact that we were left in the dark! We had no idea what was going on with our order. No one came and said, there was an issue with the order, or they were having problems. Had they, at least made an effort to keep us in the loop, we would have stayed.
So, service and cooks get the rating! They need to be a little more outgoing towards the customers, especially when they are having issues!
We can't rate the food because we didn't get any!
If you go here be prepared to wait, from what we had seen! - Tony H.North Highlands, CA532Jul 15, 2015
The food was flavorless, the cook was super slow, but the waitress was nice!
