I love, love, LOVE Waffle House. We don't have them anywhere near us so it's a treat to stop when we are road tripping in the south. On our first southern roadtrip I got the hubby to try it and now he's hooked.
Besides stopping for a gas this was our first real stop on our honeymoon roadtrip. It was a great place to stop because as usual everyone was friendly and the food was good. When you're out out on the road you want something quick and good and to be back on your way. Waffle House is perfect and this location is no exception.
Plus it's close to Knoxville without the traffic of Knoxville. We like to stop near but not in cities to avoid the heavier traffic. -

This is my sister's neighborhood Waffle House, so we stopped by for a Sunday morning breakfast during my recent visit.
We had to wait for a table to come available, and like all Waffle House locations, the customers seat themselves in the order in which they arrived. This would never work outside the South. People would argue over who was there first, and maybe this happens late night when drunk people need their waffles. On a peaceful Sunday morning, customers insist the pregnant women grab an available seat at the bar even though others were there before her. The young couple with a toddler and baby receive multiple offers to sit before others. One man even offered to let us (three able-bodied adults) take a table before him and his friend even though they were there before us. Ladies first...
The food is greasy and exactly what I needed after a night of drinking. I'm not really into sweets for breakfast so I passed on the namesake waffle. The egg sandwiches are good, and the hash browns (smothered and covered AKA with onions and cheese) are a must.
Our bill was $23 and my bro-in-law ate a boatload of food.
Even the largest table seats only 4, so take your large group across the parking lot to Shoney's. -

What can I say? It's a Waffle House. It was open 24hrs so it fit my late night needs. I was surprised to find that they didn't have a chili burger. It's a wonder why since they obviously have both. With come chagrin from my server I made one. Smothered and covered hash browns were a must to be covered in the chili along with the burger stripped of the lettuce, pickles, and tomatoes. I would also recommend asking for the onions on the burger be diced if you're into onions. Not to pat myself on the back, but my persistence in having a chili burger was well rewarded. I am awesome.
