WA Frost is easily our favorite place for a date night or gathering of friends. The service is everything you would expect from a fine dining restaurant--friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu.
We also appreciate the ambiance --the feeling of history-- the architecture, original artworks, plants, multiple fireplaces, and the amazing patio gardens in the summer all come together to create a unique environment.
None of this would matter if the food was not exceptional, and it is. The chef always has something on the menu that I can't wait to try. The addition of a market steak option has been deliciously decadent every time! They also have an incredible wine cellar and extensive bar options--ask to see the wine cellar or scotch/bourbon menu!

We had not visited for a few years because the last time we went, food was just meh. We were pleasantly surprised that the quality was back to what we had remembered. Lovely pumpkin bisque and a sparkling wine flight (a bargain at $17 for a glass and a half equivalent) started us off. I had the short rib on buttery grits, and my partner had the steak special....pricey but the best steak we had ever had...a terrific Wagyu flatiron. Perfect temperature, finishing salt, etc. Just perfect in every way. We split the pavlova for dessert. Service was refined but warm, and the glow from the fireplace and soft jazz made for a nice evening.

This review is based off three separate times to this lovely establishment!

The first time I went here I was absolutely blown away. I had a lemon pasta sauce with freshly shaved truffles and a chicken breast.

For appetizers I highly recommend the charcuterie board! The spinach artichoke dip isn't bad but I didn't love it with their "chip" option with it

The last time I went I had the short rib. That was great. I loved the wild mushrooms. I have tried the ratatouille once. It had the fresh amazing taste of traditional ratatouille that it needs to have. But I personally did not like the bread portion. It was an interesting take on the dish. To me ratatouille should be kept how it's meant to be.

The ambiance is great from inside or outside. Highly recommend the patio on a summer evening. The inside of this place is gorgeous though. If I could I'd walk around for an hour just to look at the art

This is a great spot for a Christmas lunch/brunch! It gives off a beautiful vintage & cozy vibe, we loved stopping by after the St. Paul Christmas market.
Since we had just had a bite at the market, I opted for a smaller lunch with a soup and salad. The Pumpkin Bisque was absolutely delicious, I wish I got a bowl! The Mixed Greens was fine, exactly what I was expecting - I liked the parm pieces on top! I also had a nice cappuccino. Wait times were a bit long, but we were also a large group.
I'd love to come back here and try a nice dinner out!

Wordly, historic atmosphere the fireplace near by was a cool touch

Staff was very attentive and offered thoughtful suggestions on what to order

We ordered an array of dishes: standouts were the Brussel Sprouts and Scallops

With how the menu is priced and hospitality fee it is easy to rack up quite the tab. Enjoyed our evening but probably wouldn't go out of my way to visit again.

I've been to WA Frost many times and have been delighted by the ambiance, service, food, and drink each time. Most recently I went at a less busy time around 3pm on a Saturday. We grabbed a drink at the bar and made our way into the lower level, where we claimed a quiet and cozy little nook with soft seating all to ourselves.

My cocktail of choice was the Strawberry Swing and boy oh boy, it might have been the best cocktail I've ever had. I obviously had to get two!

While the patio is favorite spot to grab food or drinks in the summer, definitely make a point to stop by in the winter for a different vibe!

What a lovely St Paul gem! Delicious food, kind staff, lovely cozy ambiance. We sat in the bar tonight and had a great time. Highly recommend the beet and pear salad and the Waygu burger. (Watch out, the burger is a bit messy but so worth it!) Only downside is not so great parking situation (small lot, street parking is available but almost always busy too). Can't wait for spring to check out the patio!

The atmosphere was super nice. The restaurant is in an older building so you get the fancy historical feel while eating. Loved going for brunch, the had a good assortment of food from savory to sweet. Cute date place!

Management: this review is for you.

W.A. Frost charges a "Hospitality Fee" of 17% and management keeps and pads their own pockets with at least some of it. They disclose this shameful practice themselves (see picture).

Not a single person from management stopped by our table tonight to show us any hospitality. How can W.A. Frost justify giving management ANY of the "Hospitality Fee"?

This is clearly a money grab by the management of W.A. Frost at the expense of their hardest working employees.

Our server tonight was excellent. We tipped her 20% since we had no idea how much of the "Hospitality Fee" management would let trickle down to her.

Great food, great service, great ambience.

      We will not be back.

WA Frost used to be spectacular. The "Hospitality Fee" of 17% is ridiculous! Communism & Socialist fee for fair wages and then expect a gratuity! At these prices their wages should be fair and a patron should not be expected to pay their employees. The employer, WA Frost should pay their employees a fair wage, that's their position in this transaction.

Their service was less than stellar. We had to ask twice for our drinks after waiting a half hour for them when they did come the ice was almost melted so a couple of watered down drinks and two appetisers at $75! Poor service. I'll be scratching them off my list of fine dining establishments in Saint Paul!
