Overall rating: Lukewarm, just like the "hot" tub.

For my 20-something b-day I decided to whisk my best-est girlfriends and I away from the big city for a little relax-cation.  The goods: room was big, bathroom was big, decor amazing (it matched my purple weekender bag), and the overall service was good.  However, the bad: the weather (ok not the hotels fault), the maintenance of the pool area (dirty towels everywhere), and the hot tub...LUKEWARM.  When we asked about the temperature of the hot tub, the front desk said it was CA law.  Um...I don't believe that a hot tub is suppose to be 70 degrees hot.  I was NOT happy about the hot tub since I was highly looking forward to it.

This W smacks of Burst Internet Bubble, and it's also not in Silicon Valley. In fact, it's a good 10+ minute drive from anyplace I would call the Valley.

Anyhow, this review is primarily for "brunch", which I have to put in quotes because it turned out it was really more like room service delivered to a table in the bar. The restaurant appears to be closed, at least on the weekends.

It was slow to get our order in, and took quite a while to get our mediocre food. I had pancakes and they were edible, but they looked and tasted like they were from Sysco pancake mix. Bleh. My wife said her eggs over easy & sausage were kinda gross, and when she asked for sourdough toast they brought her Texas Toast. Weird.

Upshot: by no means should you go out of your way to eat here, and as a guest, I'd like for options outside of the hotel.

Side note: We only ate here because my sister & brother-in-law were staying here and it seemed convenient. We saw their room, and it was pretty shabby... the mini-bar was not fully stocked, the veneer on the coffee table was coming off, etc. If you are used to swanky W Hotels, you will be pretty disappointed with this one.

Stayed here when I went to see a concert at Shoreline. It's not too far from that venue, and I figured I would use my Starpoints. What I really like about this W is the super spacious rooms - it is actually a W Suites! My room was huge and had a comfy yet stylish couch. The bed was amazing - I slept like a baby. The lobby was fairly nice and it also had a lively bar and relaxing outdoor pool. The staff was extremely friendly upon arrival and the place had a free self-parking lot. A major plus since I thought that I would be shelling out $30 for parking.

My only complaint is that the bathroom and tub were rather small. Also, the room service ends way too early and there are no places nearby (aside from Jack in the Box) that serve late. Overall, a nice hotel and very comfortable.

So I'm out in the middle of nowhere and I see. . .a W.  Seriously, this hotel is in a strange location.  I went there recently on a Sunday to visit a friend who was in from out of town and it was crickets.  He'd gotten a late checkout  (4 pm).  However, that didn't stop Housekeeping from knocking on the door every hour on the hour, including once at 3:58pm.  Seriously??   Also I thought it was odd late check out even had to be negotiated as there was absolutely no one there.  The parking lot was empty.  They refused to give Starwood points for the stay since that hadn't been arranged in advance.  Rooms are big, and they have the typical W fare as far as amentities.  Overall, seemed like a fairly lame hotel you'd only go to if someone was throwing an event there.  Even then, I'd have to think twice about it.  LOL.

We (Family of 4 with two children under 6) stayed on a Friday night. It was a staycation for us as we had a Starwood certificate to use. Room was fantastic with two King sized beds, a mini kitchen area, large bathroom, and seating area.  Enjoyed the pool and hot tub and the hot tub, unlike other reviews, was definitely hot but the pool was definitely cool so we barely ventured there. The staff was sweet. Good coffee in the morning located at the bar but I wish there were a coffee machine in the room.  Not too far away is the Don Edwards Wildlife Preserve which is a great place to walk around which we did.
There certainly isn't the 'cool' feel of a W property. The bar was pretty small so I am glad I am a mom while staying and not a swinging single. It is better than a Sheraton 4 points but isn't at the same level of a W.

I was surprisingly shocked when I walked into the W Silicon Valley. First the overall lobby was quite small. I make a quick left to the check-in area and right off the bat, the person at the front desk was not very friendly. I did not feel like I was in a W Hotel from his attitude. As a platinum member, I didn't get any check-in amenity, upgrade, or even friendly service.

After getting up to the room, I could tell the facilities were pretty run down. Most of my furniture was pretty damage with chips, cracks, etc. The bathroom, tub, and shower were nothing fancy.

As we tried to take advantage of the pool, we noticed all the towels were dirty and laying on the lounge chairs. I had to go into the gym area and grab multiple towels to pretty much lay out onto my lounge chair. We laid out at the pool area for about 2 hours and never saw a single hotel employee come out to refresh the towels.

Overall the customer service was rater low, the facilities were a bit run down, the location is a bit odd, but the price was bargain. Even though this is a brand name hotel, I'll say, you get what you pay for...

Overall: 3.5 stars

I walked into this W knowing what to expect. I was told by friends that have stayed at this property that it is a notch lower than other W's such as the one in San Francisco. However, the price lured in me and I had a "local" getaway at this hotel last weekend.

Ambiance: The lobby, I concur, is a bit small. The decor is similar to what you would normally find at W Hotels. They also have a bar area (kind of small as well). The furnishing in the room is nice and I loved their pillows.

Room: I got upgraded to a Spectacular Suite. Comfortable down bed and a small kitchen area (microwave, sink, small island attached to the sink). The bathroom was spacious and I liked the lighting. It had a tub plus the shower facility (glass enclosure). The side of the bed had an ipod charger and alarm clock. Both were moving sides and can be pulled from the wall to be closer to the bed (kind of neat!). There's also a giant table inside the room. The room was spacious and clean. I was expecting a flat screen TV, but they still had a traditional TV in the room. I was on the 4th floor.

Amenities: The room comes with the Blush/standard W hotel amenities. I LOVE the face wash at this chain. It's a cute little bottle that I always take home with me. They also gave me a toothbrush and paste since I had forgotten about the paste before I left my house. There is a small gym that fits 8 people (according the building capacity sign) and a small pool. They had told me it is technically open 24 hours, but they heat stops working at 11pm. Gym is 24 hours and accessible with hotel room key. There is an express check out kiosk and the same kiosk also can help one check in to airlines.

Location: The location is a bit strange since it is surrounded by tech/company buildings. It is the LAST exit before the 84 freeway. Be careful or you will miss it and then have to go across the 84 and pay the toll and come back. It is near a number of eateries off of Jarvis and the Ranch 99 Asian lot. It is a nice place to stay for locals and for out of towners who want to explore the Silicon Valley area. Not a lot around the hotel and while I saw one bus one coming near the area, you really cannot get around without a car (maybe one can take advantage of the Acura rentals with the hotel itself).

Customer Service: This is the reason why I am giving it a three star. Also, for Starwood Preferred Guests, they don't have a separate line/check in. I was standing around for around 5-10 minutes before I was even helped. There was 1 girl at the front desk and she was helping a guy with his reservation. I waited and she didn't even acknowledge I was there till I asked minutes later. Later, a girl came out and she was helpful though my initial impression was a bit disappointing especially for a W Hotel. 3 stars for the customer service as they did upgrade me and were nice, but they weren't that helpful. I was also able to check out later as part of a benefit of being a preferred guest.

Pricing: I have to say for the price, it is a bargain to stay here. 4 stars. I will have to come back in the future because it's such a great deal. I paid 79 plus tax for my room and I cannot complain for the price (albeit me giving a 3 star rating). They were clean and comfortable and a nice place to have a get together or small party. It seemed that was what some folks were doing as I saw countless individuals carrying beverages to their rooms while sitting in the lobby.

Overall, location is a bit awkward and customer service wasn't as great and what I normally expect at a W Hotel. However, it is a great bargain for the area and the rooms are comfortable. I will def. come back for a visit because of its value and if the customer service improves, I will def. note it when I re yelp it.

Facts:

One-night, booked wonderful room king-size bed, saturday night.

Check-in:

It should be noted that I've read previous Yelp reviews of this hotel before i booked it, so i was not very shocked when i stepped into a relatively small and plain-looking lobby (compared to other Ws like the one in SF). I checked in around 11pm and there was no one except two people at the bar. When we got the receptionist desk, no one was there. Luckily within one-minute, someone showed up (though I thought in terms of hotel service, at least SOMEONE should be at the desk at all times).

The receptionist was courteous and stated that he had upgraded us to a spectacular king size room because all the wonderful rooms were under renovation (so next time we should book the cheaper, wonderful rooms since they will be newer!). As a result of upgrading us to the spectacular suite, the W fulfilled by previous online request for "a higher floor." I'll give them credit for that. We were not shown to our room, nor were we asked if we needed help with our luggage.

Room:

Our room was unfortunately placed right next to the elevators. Luckily, however, it was not that noisy during the night. The room was relatively large, considering this hotel advertises all their rooms as "suites." It was clean and modern. They had a working ipod docking station and flat screen tv (though the TV did not have HD).

The bathroom was relatively modern, though nothing compared to the bathroom in the W san francisco. There was a separate shower and bathtub. The thing i loved about this bathroom was a dual shower head system. There were the usual bathroom toiletries you would expect from a 3-4star hotel (no q-tips, mouthwash, slippers).

The bed was very comfortable and clean.

Service:

The receptionist was courteous, but not extraordinarily friendly or welcoming. We were upgraded and our requests were fulfilled which is a plus.

Facilities:

i did not use any of the hotel's facilities, though i thought it was inconvenient that there were ice-machines on every OTHER floor and not on EVERY floor. How irritating if i resided on the floor w/out an ice machine.

Overall impression:

Good deal for the price (89/night for me). As mentioned by other yelp reviewers, this W hotel is slightly below the quality you would expect at other W hotels (SF, LA, etc). With that said, the room is spacious, modern, and clean. The service is okay. The location is bleak (newark california where's that?). Would i stay here again? Considering the price, I would, especially if i needed to be around this local area again sometime in the future.

Who knew there was a W hotel in the tri-city area! I really like the one in SFO and stayed here for a weekend once.  The lobby and bar are not the same as the one in the city which is much nicer. The rooms were pretty nice. They also have special packages that you can order for couples. Look it up!

We stayed here last weekend...Janet was able to book a room the same night and still got a great value. It is not on the same level as the W in SF, but it's still a nice little escape. Would not recommend to those who want to be WOWd by the decor or beauty of a 4-5 star hotel you'd find in SF- it's trendy (admittedly feels a little weird considering the location), but basic. And Don't come to the bar if you are craving a lively scene, because it's very very slow (but if you do, get the oysters...they're served in a very delicious buttery and spicy/curry sauce!).

The room and the bathroom were spacious and clean, and the bed was also comfortable. They get plus points for the double shower head. only complaint: the ancient tube tv. Verdict: if you'd like to have a relaxing night away from home, in a secluded part of  Newark, then you'll get your money's worth here.

Wow. For a W hotel, this place does not even come close to meeting the bar.

My GF and I went here on a Wednesday night since I was in town visiting and we wanted to grab a cocktail.

We roll in here around 10 pm and the place is practically empty. I think there were 6 other people total in the entire lounge area.

Head over to the bar to get a drink and stand and wait. And wait. And wait!! There is one guy behind the bar who is kinda helping another patron or whatever. He looks over at us and says he will be right with us. We said, cool, thanks.

5 minutes later, he comes over and asks us what we would like. We order 2 raspberry lemon drops. He said someone else will make the drink. A lady makes it, and when we ask for the bill, she says she has to ask someone else to ring it up. WTF? When did it take 3 people to make a damn drink?!

Anyways.

10 minutes later we finally get our drinks, and head over to the fireplace area to sit and chat. I realize we didn't get napkins. UM WTH. Martini glasses are notorious for spilling all over the place.

So, my GF heads back to the bar to get napkins and has to wait a good 5 min to get them!! 5 minutes for napkins?!! The bartender has the audacity to tell her "We are really busy tonight".

Uhh.... where?! Who? The 5 people who have already been served??

Her response was "No, you aren't". That's right girl! You tell him! Shiet.

Finally, she returns with napkins and we are able to chill.

I'm not coming back here. Service stinks. Suck it W.

It's priced right if you get the timing right
Although the bar scene isn't cracking, the suite is sure nice
There's not much of a lobby traffic or lounge traffic, but a party up at the room or just simply a comfortble stay is not a bad idea.
The lowest price I've seen is $55

A good place for a getaway weekend.  W choose a strange place to locate this hotel - near the old Sun Microsystem campus.  The Hotel is a bit rough around the edges, but the staff does what it can to keep the place clean and running smoothly.

Our room was a large suite decorated in dark purple and brown tones.  The bed was extremely comfortable and you'll get a good night's sleep.  However, the furniture was nicked and a bit dirty, but after 10 years of use, it's not in that bad of shape.

We visited the bar and the place was DEAD.  Only 4 people having cocktails.  If you want a quiet stylish getaway, this is a good choice.

If you want a hip crowd, better stick to the city - may I suggest W San Francisco?

If you're paying more than $100 a night you're paying too much. This is a W Hotel in name only and shouldn't be confused with some of their smarter, sexier more urban properties like LA or Seattle. Sorry, just telling you the way it is. I was in the South Bay on business and was curious about what this might be like.

As someone said, it's a rebranded Sheraton with some design touches and not much more. I'm not sure who stays here but it's a good guess that many of the guests are Sun employees along with some other SV types on weekdays and families traveling on weekends. Problem? There's nothing even remotely nearby. Newark is kind of a dump and so is nearby Fremont. You've got to drive almost anywhere and though Palo Alto is across the bridge - it's still across the bridge.

I checked in and didn't notice until late that two of the pillows on the bed didn't have slip covers on them. It was around 9pm and I called to housekeeping to point out the problem. About five minutes later, a woman came to the door and handed me the two slip covers. Really? You think I'm going to put them on? Think again. She came in, a bit perturbed, and get this: kept the door partly open with the dead bolt. Excuse me? I found that so insulting. As though you'd think a guest might try to take advantage of you? The only think less appealing about this place is the stench coming off the Bay.

Overall, I liked it and would stay here again.
Why?

I will try to be concise with the PROS and CONS for you readers.

This was based on my recent stay this past weekend for two nights.

CONS:
1.  You know that yummy lemon water in the lobby or "Great Room" that would be on my PRO list?  It was never available for me.  I had it once, the night I checked in, but after that, every time I checked back, it was either dry or removed from the spot.
2.  Yes, others have mentioned this...the carpet was dirty.  In the room, I noticed stains here and there.
3.  I think someone else mentioned this too.  Hey, you guys aren't leaving much for me to complain about!  ;)  The apples were slightly bruised and not that tasty.  Since the apples in the Great Room were bruised, we went to the Fitness Center to check those.  Yep, also bruised.
4.  If you ask for blankets, they are horrible.  Why?  They look like they are from the 60s.  No, not vintage.  I mean 60s like they are that old and have not been washed.
5. I was butt-tired and trying to sleep when a bunch of girls were screaming and having too much rowdy fun right outside my room.  I was going to go outside and yell at them had I not been too tired to get dressed and do it. Ugh!  Always some crazy party people crashing for the night!!!

PROS:
1. They were kind enough to upgrade us to a higher floor.  Just ask!
2. The lemon water in the lobby was tasty.
3.  The sheets were soooooooooooo soft.  It felt so nice.  Both my husband and I thought so, and I don't think it's just because we were tired.
4. Bliss Spa Products *********INHALE*********
5. Pet friendly! YOU CAN BRING PEPE THE POODLE!
6. Bath tub AND Shower (We had both in our room..not sure about other rooms.)
7.  Flat screen tv with in-room checkout.
8. Key activated elevator to keep out  crazy drunks...

We booked us a room here for the weekend and it was a great weekend. The decor is tasteful. The room is pretty sizeable with a nice bathroom and shower.

When you walk in, the lobby is small and the check in counter is not very noticeable. There was a large and loud party in the lounge right underneath our room, some sort of book signing. They had hip hop music blaring at a late night book signing, a little awkward However, it ended at midnight and was quiet after that. Was a little surprised that the TV was old school 27 inch box TV, not even a flatscreen. We did not watch much TV though. They provide wine glasses and a wine bottle opener, nice surprise.

Service was where this place gets its stars. We called at 6ish or so to get our room cleaned and they said that maid service left at 5pm. We just asked for fresh towels instead. To our pleasant surprise, when we returned later that night, they had cleaned our room, did the sheets, and even cleaned and rearranged the bathroom counter.

Would recommend this place.

The location of this W Hotel is pretty much in the the middle of no where but conveniently located near the 84/880. In the summertime it can get rather stinky outside since it's right near the swampy area of the bay but for less than $100 a night you really can't go wrong.

The lobby is very modern, dimly lite during the evening, but quite cozy. Very ultra lounge-ish feel during the night with some eclectic dance music in the background. The rooms are very modern which is to be expected at the W, clean and the bed is fluffy and comfortable. I just wished the location was better. 3.5 stars.

Due to its unusual location (for a W hotel), the prices are decent.  The thing I love most about this hotel is the room.  It's spacious and comfortable, from the couch to the bed.  The restaurant food isn't to die for, but the drinks definitely please the taste buds.

If you're looking for places to explore while staying at the W, you can always hop onto the Dumbarton and drive towards Palo Alto/Mountain View... or you can just wander around the East Bay.

I usually visit the bar area and the restaurant at this W called Relish (of which I'm a very big fan). But on rare occasion I will stay at the hotel. I just finished with a 3 night stay here, and I was mostly impressed.

The rooms are nice, but didn't strike me as overly clean. Don't get me wrong; they weren't necessarily dirty, but they just didn't strike me as sterilized...and, I kind of appreciate that sort of 'clinical sterilization' feeling when there are a lot of different bodies that frequent the same facilities. Maybe I'm being picky--it is a hotel--but I just hold the W to a higher standard.

Strike 2 was that they wanted to charge for WiFi. Uhhh, this is the W "SILICON VALLEY!" WiFi should be included at a hotel with "Silicon Valley" in the name. And more importantly, I don't like the feeling of being nickle-and-dimed when I pay for premium accommodations. This sort of behavior I'd expect from Radisson, but not from Starwood.

Other than that, I was very happy with my stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and stylish. And, I will be back. As far as I know it is the best place to stay in the entire Fremont, Newark, Union City area.

Pretty sleek hotel in the Tri-City.  The building was obviously home to another chain hotel, but the W snazzed it up inside.

A few minor slips, but the good outweighed the not so good.

GOOD
-Nice color scheme in the lobby and the rooms.  Loved the purples & espresso wood.
-Loved all the knick knacks around the room: mags, kaleidoscope, Bliss products, post its, hologramic postcards & W stationary.
-Cool snacks: Dylan's Candy Bar, Cocoabon & Voss Water.
-Cozy waffle robes with TERRY on the inside.  VERY important.
-FREE WIFI in all the common areas.
-Friendly service.
-Fridge, microwave, DVD player.
-Pool and jacuzzi open till 11pm.
-24hr access to the gym: free mags, Wired & Dwell.
-Yummy room service.

NOT SO GOOD
-Modern signage in the lobby is not so easy to read, couldn't tell where the arrows were directing me.
-Gym equipment is very minimal: 1 treadmill, 2 precor, 1 stair, 1 bike & free weights go up to only 50lbs.
-There was a ring in the toilet, small stain on the couch, carpet was burnt & discolored.
-Bed was not so good, if I was alone it would have been fine, but I was sleeping on a SLOPE.  Not cool.
-The cable sucked, most of the channels had snowflakes, and where's the flatscreen!?!?
-Granny apples in the gym were all bruised, I'd rather have NO apples, then have to look at old and abused ones.
-No spa treatments, only in-room massages.

I would definitely stay here again, it's a nice 5 minute getaway from my house and Travelocity helped me do it for only $123!!!

W Silicon Valley, listen up. You need to shape up ASAP. My girlfriend and I have been going there for the past year and a half, about 10 times now as a local weekend getaway.

DO THESE THINGS SOON and you'll be a five-star place:

1) Steam-clean all the carpeting, and some of the furniture. Immediately, every room needs it - there are random stains on the carpet.

2) Have someone check on the Pool area more often. The towels don't get refilled, there's used towels out there all the time, and the chairs/lounges get messed up.

3) Don't focus so much on damn events - the hotel goes to shit when there's a party/ballroom event. Everyone in the hotel is scrambing to work  the event, and regular guests are left out. HIRE MORE PEOPLE.

4) Check the rooms out. I've never had a bad experience with the room being in disrepair, but if a toilet keeps running or a door is broken, SHUT DOWN the room and fix it.

OTHERWISE, this place is a gem in the perpetual shithole that is the Fremont, Union City, and Newark area.

It probably has the best food in this area... the bar is good, not great. The bartender is a nice guy, but the Mojito I had was disappointing - otherwise it's good stuff.

Like I said, they need the details of service and cleanliness right, and then this place is golden. They're so close - fix it!

~This is only for the bar~

My friends and i decided to check out the W for some drinks and boy were we impressed with the inside!  Having grown up Newark, this place was a bit of a shock.  It's in Newark, so it's close to home, but once you enter, it's like being in a bar in the city without the drive!

swanky.

We ordered drinks and an appetizer, the prices were decent, a little less pricier than the city but it was going out without going too far.

Not bad!

The best place to stay if you:
1) live nearby and know where everything is and just want to stay some place that's not home for cheap.
2) need some place to crash after bar hopping in PA or San Jose.

The W is really in the middle of nowhere. If you're not from the bay I wouldn't suggest staying here unless you know people around the area that can take you around. It's not one of those hotels that you can stay at and go outside and find something cool to do. It's in the middle of suburbia.

Since I live around here the location of the hotel doesn't bug me. It's really convenient when I need a place to escape from the friends or BF and just be alone. The decor is calming, the drinks are good (Raspberry lemon drop!!!!), and we threw a hell of a bachelorette party there!!

I think the bachelorette party story will be the most helpful for those planning to have little get togethers here so I'll give you an idea of how much we were able to get away with......

we booked a room for the night, standard room... couch, bed, kitchen sink... you know the basics. There were about 8 girls dressed in lingerie (we told the bride it was going to be a drunk lingerie party) and we had brought a TON of alcohol, toys, and food. We were pretty loud then the stripper came which made it louder of course!! After about 3-4 hours of partying security comes knocking on the door. By this time the stripper is finished and we're all just drinking champagne. The stripper answers the door and security says we need to quiet down a bit..... the stripper then opens the door so all of us girls can say hi and security says, "Can I come in?!"

hahahha.... we were pretty loud that night and even when security came he was a good sport about it all. We just got a "keep it down a bit" and he was off.

I think the hotel is fairly empty most of the time so it's a good place to throw "tellys" at but if you get caught, not my fault!

W Hotel puts Hotel Valencia at it's knees!

I quote Fergie Ferg when I say it's just "G-L-A-M-O-R-O-U-S"

The location is pretty random, but as I'm writing my 70th review, I feel like this is a common theme-diamonds in the rough.

While the front isn't spectacular and totally not a reflection of what you will encounter inside, try to get over the amazing interior. Minimalist, but with a twist. For the young, hip, and fun.

Quite the place to take for a hotel party (we were so loud, but nobody complained), to go on a "one on one", or be alone. Very private, hush hush, and secluded.

What I love about the rooms is that they're clean with none of that tacky floral print (oh god!), and didn't seem too "sanitized"...the rooms had character with magazines, framed pictures (don't remember of what though), each room had a tv with a dvd player, and cd player.

The bathrooms were stocked with lovely Bliss products (none of that "Hotel Name" hock you get elsewhere) that everyone was trying to weasel from each other.

The W Bar is a little small, but they've got a restaurant if you've got the munchies.

Our party spent alot of time at the living room, or rather, the lobby. W Hotel must have some orange and apple trees somewhere, because they had some all over. Hehe We ate some.

This place is so pretty - but in the middle of nowhere!  It's wierd walking into such a modern place that's located in the middle of marshland.

The rooms are inexpensive and they are all gigantic and freakin nice!  My cousin had her wedding in the ballroom here  - they did a great job with it!

The bar is fancy.  Just don't expect the bar to be a happening spot - because it really is in the middle of nowhere!

Finding a W in the east bay was a surprise. I had to stay here with ex-Poker Face to check out the property. I'd say overall our experience was excellent. We agreed we would return again.

It's tucked away in an area where millionaires in papers used to work and play-now it's a ghost of Silicon Valley Boomtown. It's an easy reach from either side of Dumbarton Bridge.

There was a night-time book signing party when I checked in. Loud music was playing and the lobby/bar was bustling with activities that would equal registration day in college.

The check in counter is to your left as you come out of the revolving door. If you don't look hard enough on a busy night  you might just miss it!

5 Stars for the Staff. The front desk went out of their way to make sure that our stay was comfortable. The maid service stops at 5 pm I was told when we called. We wanted some towels and I wanted the bed done. I wasn't expecting the bed done and fresh towels waiting for us when we got back. The front desk staff did it! Really cool.
5 Stars for the price of a room@ $97.96 with taxes included.
5 Stars for cleanliness and big beds.Bathrooms  here are different from the W Hotel in SF. It's much more homely.
3 stars for the rooms design. Nothing special-functional like any other hotels.
5 Stars for free parking!! Wohoo!
3 Stars for the small lobby/bar. BUT it's cute!
Did not try the food at the restaurant. That will be for my next update here.
Why 4 stars? Loud music can be felt/heard all the way to the second floor, thru my bed and my clean sheets. And Oh btw-they have an old fat TV. Minor problem to me considering the staff are great!

The staff although very friendly were not detailed orientated when checking in their customers. When I checked into my room, I was given the wrong room type, was not given my free internet access and was not given my drink tickets for the room I purchased. I ended up changing rooms and wasted about 1 1/2 hours to get everything resolved. With that being said, the rooms were great and everything was very very clean. The AC was loud and that kept me up. The robe and bliss products in the bathroom were of excellent quality. Prices were definitely attractive for California residents.

The bar experience was the best. Miguel made very tasty drinks and I had a great service from him.

My best friend was getting married and she wanted to get ready and stay at The W.  I know she got the expensive room and I'm not sure what the other rooms looked like but for basically the only nice hotel in Fremont I give her room a thumbs up.

When you walk into The W the atmosphere is shiek and dimly lit.  There is a bar area when you walk in to your right and a fireplace and some shiek furniture to go with it.

Her room had a mini living room and a large king sized bed with a good size bathroom.  Surprisingly there was no jacuzzi for the price she was paying?  But I heard the pool was open 24/7.

For having a random nice hotel in Fremont, this is the place to go to for business or for a quick get away quickie..  Anything other than that, find a nice hotel in San Jose or San Francisco.

"W" as in W-T-F...What the F***??

This place isn't like any other W hotel, and the Starwood company should put an astrik** by the name to tell you that it's not a REAL W hotel.

On a recent trip to San Jose, I couldn't believe I found a W property for only $89!! I was so excited. Not even on Hotwire or Priceline...so I should have known that it was too good to be true.

If you are being quarantined for a contagious illness, this would probably be a comfortable place to spend your time. If, however, you want to interact with other humans or eat, this isn't the place for you.

The hotel is miles from any food, and the food at the hotel is terrible...without exception. We tried bar food and the complimentary breakfast...terrible. The bar is small, but you can sit out in the living room area of the lobby. Again, if you've been to other W's...this place isn't even close to as nice as other common areas.

It's remote. The food sucks. The staff is generally rude. All that's left is the heavenly bed...which is still heavenly...but I'd check into any other hotel in San jose before staying at this outpost again.

My husband and I found ourselves needing to be in Fremont for a friend's Halloween party. I think of this W as a "W-lite" due to its odd location and the size of it, but it was a welcome refuge in that desolate part of the East Bay.

The room was nice. Our corner room had 2 flat screen TVs and a very large and clean bathroom with no plumbing problems (as we were going in costume, this was really appreciated). There was a class reunion going on in the hotel that weekend, so we missed the restaurant (which is a shame, judging from the reviews) but, the staff was nice and gave good recommendations. We really enjoyed the pool area. We would stay there again.

As I'm reading some of the other yelpers on this hotel, I must disagree/agree. But let's not get started on the he said, she said ordeal though...

I stayed here yesterday for one night. The W hotels carry a powerful name, which in my eyes describes a place that is trendy, modern, and represents new money. This was my first experience staying at a W hotel. My room was $99 for a night. It took me no more than five minutes to check in. When I got in the elevator, I noticed that I had to insert my room key to get to my floor (Vegas feel). I took it for granted at that initial point of time, but later on I was thankful of having to do it.

I did not have any issues with my room. Everything looked new, clean, and in order. The bed was extremely comfortable and you just sink in as you lay in it. There was a frig/microwave/and kitchen sink.

After we stepped out for dinner, we noticed that there was music coming from the bar and outside area. I was too lazy to get dressed like I was going to a club and return downstairs for a few sips of poison. Instead, we decided to head up to our room and veg out. This was when I thought about inserting my key into the elevator to get to my floor. I became grateful of the little task because it now played a role in stopping random drunks running a muck throughout the floors, since only people who were staying there can go up with their room keys.

I'm definitely going to consider this hotel as one of my options if I ever plan on going to stay in this area again.

Despite its strange location, out in the middle of nowhere, this hotel manages to capture much of the ambiance of the more expensive W hotels in more glamorous locations. Considering the fact that you can get a room for less than a hundred bucks on the weekend, its actually a pretty good deal.

The pool area is quite nice. If you're looking for a getaway, I recommend getting a room here during the hot summer months just to swim and enjoy the pool scene.

As of this writing the hotel is showing some age. One of the handles on the bathroom sink fell off on me; dings in the furniture; phone didn't work (see next paragraph), but overall, still a very beautiful room. The beds are exceptionally comfortable.

Unlike some other reviewers, I have been treated nicely by the staff here. The phone in my room was intermittent, so they sent an engineer up in less than five minutes. He was very friendly and came right back with a replacement. Also had good luck with the front desk and the bartender.

Some people are offended by the would-be hipness of the W chain, but if that kind of thing doesn't bother you, I can recommend this place as one of the more enjoyable  hotels in the East Bay.

The name of this hotel is a double misnomer, since it is neither a real W, nor is it in Silicon Valley.

The building was obviously made for some large Marriott, with all the necessary ugly stucco, weird windows, awful front entrance and the accordingly lame interior spatial layout. . . Then someone thought that it would be great to make this into a W and milk the brand for all it's worth. All the furniture and lights and everything INSIDE is total W minimalism, but it doesn't really FIT into this space. It's disappointing.

As far as the Silicon Valley part of it goes... well, it's in NEWARK, overlooking the MARSH and the Dumbarton Bridge. ..

One upside of it is that the windows open all the way [who need safety precautions?] and in the morning I pushed an armchair to the window still, swung my legs outside and tanned. It was the 5th floor, so I enjoyed myself throughly.

But really, what is UP with the Ws here?

Let me tell you, I cannot find a more comfortable bed ANYWHERE! The room is gorgeous and for the special pricing I found ($100/night), I could not complain.

Very nice hotel with a decent sized pool area. Location is good since it's pretty out there in the middle of nowhere.

My only problem was with how the front desk handled my noise problem. Apparently, there was a large party that reserved the pool area. At the end of the night, they were running up and down the hallway, slamming doors and making so much noise. I called the front desk to have security handle it but nothing happened. I had to listen to those people for another hour before I fell asleep.

It's a great place for a random stay. Just order a bunch of food and a movie. My girlfriend and I had a huge seafood dinner that we ordered outside and brought in.

Stayed here for a couple weeks while working at a client site in the bay area. I loved the rooms!! The decor, layout and amenities were on par. (See photos) Since it's located in a really industrial office area, there isn't much close by in terms of dining options. You'll have to drive a ways for the good restaurants. However, the silver lining in this dilemma is that the food served in the hotel was absolutely to die for!! The menu - printed on 1 page - changes every two weeks or so and reflects the chef's whim and what's locally fresh. I definitely enjoyed my time at this particular W!

This review is solely based upon a wedding we attended here... we did not stay here....
Beautiful interior, but my cousin's wedding was a total disaster as a result of the W Hotel.  First they didn't serve the menu she'd selected, but worst of all a large percentage of the guests ended up with food poisoning!!!  A health inspection found that appetizers prepared too far in advance and not stored properly were to blame.  Disgusting, especially considering the food was $100 a plate.  If you're thinking of hosting a reception here, I would think again!!!

I stayed overnight at this hotel last summer.  The interior is gorgeous and the furnishings are top-rate.  Unfortunately, I can't say the same about the staff.  They were not attentive and failed to perform basic tasks, like bringing towels when asked or answering questions.  Clearly, they are not trained right and management cares more about the appearance of the hotel.  Breakfast was substandard quality in terms of service and food.

To me, service is everything in a hotel.

Not recommended.

Every Valentine's Day, my husband takes me here for a one-night stay. They have lovely (and SUPER reasonable) Valentine's Day packages that only a W way out in Newark could afford. That said, the reason we come here is to escape the craziness and people of the city life.

It's really quiet in this hotel, the rooms are HUGE and lavishly decorated, the bathrooms have spa tubs and walk-in showers, and the bar is fabulous. We usually go out to nice dinner at Market Broiler Grill in Fremont, come back to the W for a night at their bar (they have great people working at the bar), and then make it a night in their huge, cozy hotel bed. You can also bring your dogs, and they will arrange for a pet sitter during your stay if you need one. This is a really cool feature that you won't find at many other hotels (other than the W chain).

I have a few, not-so-important complaints: 1) the staff aren't too helpful, 2) the food in the restaurant is overpriced and not-so-hot, and 3) the pool is a little small. Other than that, this is a great priced getaway hotel (we usually pay between $80-90 a night).

What's not to love with a Starwood chain that allows accommodations for humans and their furry companions? Just to clarify, I meant dogs.

If you live in San Francisco and you want to go shopping all day at the Gilroy Outlets but don't want to drive back, this would be a great place to retreat for the night.

For less than $150/night, this is the best hotel getaway in the South Bay Area. You receive the standard Bliss products and posh amenities that the chain provides. Clean and spacious rooms with a great pool that's perfect for a hot day.
