(Part Two of the NYC Food Crawl - Hot Chocolate Crawl; 1/15/12)
Let's talk sextacularly decadent, shall we?
I have always been a fan of their chocolates; I've been known to put aside a few dollars every now and then for a big Naga bar. As for their hot cocoa (...sorry, haut chocolat...), I've been made a super duper fan in just a mere few sips!
The interior? Purple. Very, very purple. Chandeliers? You bet! The tall built-ins boasted displays of everything they had in stock, with a large emphasis on Mo's Bacon Bars. (And why not? Chocolate and bacon IS amazing.)
My hot cocoa crawl partners and I tried three different varieties of cocoa. We had the "plain" (which was rich without being overwhelming to my senses) variety, the Aztec Elixir Couture Cocoa, and, my personal MIND-BLOWING favorite, the Bianca Couture Cocoa. White chocolate? Lemon? Lavender? Vanilla? YES. They all combine to make the Bianca, and it's almost a fantastic palette cleanser.
Between the chocolate and the cocoa, I think I found my personal chocolate heaven.

To say "Hot Chocolate Date" would be an understatement. This was a Spicy Hot, Hot Chocolate, Hot Date...a triple threat! My friend Helene Traasavik, former Miss Norway, yoga guru, and model, joined me at Vosges: Haut Chocolate in Soho. It was fitting that she be there with me! Couture chocolate that lets you travel the world with every bite. We ordered the Aztec Elixir which is on the spicy side, spiked with ancho & chipotle chillies, Ceylon cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla bean, cornmeal, and dark chocolate. You can try this world cup of chocolate at home by ordering online here. Here's what you can expect:
VOSGES AZTEC ELIXIR
-Extravagant taste.
-Thick, rich, and spicy.
-Perfect to share with someone else.
-Served elegantly in a stylish, ceramic black mug that is smooth to the touch.

Dear Vosges: I love you. Seriously, I mean it, I am in love with you and all of your chocolatey goodness.
This shop is so adorable. Whenever I find myself in SoHo on a cold day, you can bet that I will be stopping by for a drinking chocolate. All of the chocolates here are amazing - my personal favorite is the Red Fire bar. If you don't need your chocolate fix rightthissecond, do yourself a favor and pick up a box of the caramel toffee brownie mix - absolutely heaven in a baking dish.
All around amazing. -

All around excellent chocolatier. Brilliant truffles and flavors, especially around the holidays. I loved them so much I sent my father in California a box last Christmas. They arrived cooled, and on time...and I think they lasted for about 5 minutes before consumption was complete.
The staff is beyond accommodating, and WILL entice you with their free Hot Toddy & Holiday Truffle Samples closer to Christmas (I pray they are doing this again, as it was the reason I waltzed in there).
It's only October, and my father is already asking if the "excellent truffle store is still around...those were delicious". Hint-hint, nudge-nudge daughter...Listed in: Sweet Saccharine

Vosges is super-high quality, full-flavored chocolate creations.
Expensive? Yes, but so worth it.
You will never want to eat low-end chocolate again.
They also are partly responsible for the whole bacon-chocolate craze - one of their bars has bacon in it, which for some people (that sweet, salty, smoky cobo) is the ultimate taste-treat.
The also have a curry flavor and a chili/chocolate ("hot") option.
Delish!Listed in: Flam's Sugar Rush, Flam's Chocolate Endorphin…

They have blue bottle coffee in espresso! What a lovely surprise.
Amazing chocolate, at a price that is much more reasonable than la maison du chocolat. They have a million kinds of chocolates, truffles, and hot chocolate powder! They offer sample sizes for a lot of them, and they all look lovely!
Finally I decided on a pack of hot chocolate powder, made with 63% pure dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla bean pieces. Definitely coming back again. -

I always passed this place headin to my spa treaments on Spring st. So, one day I just walked in to take a look see. I must say this place can be crowded on a weekend afternoon. I love the caramel bite and the choclate bacon. I brought my friend here and he went nuts over the veriety of chocolates. The staff were friendly and helpful.
I'll recommend this place for a chocohlic adventure -

Fellow foodies! Turn your nose up at those commoners who scoff at you as you indulge in chocolate infused with wild Vosges flavors like curry , wasabi, peppercorns - and the biggest draw of them all - BACON! Real experience: Three guys including myself, total strangers to each other, standing around a sample bowl of Bacon Toffee Milk Chocolate and giving each other that knowing look of having just tasted the perfect balance of sweet, salty, creamy, and fatty. Sure, they have more simplistic flavors like Lavender truffles and plain chocolate, but don't skip the bacon. Its just...so...good. I would take Vosges over over-rated spots like Jacques Torres anyday.

Stopped in here and was amazed at all the various flavor mixes and rich smells. I thought of my Yelp friend Jenn L. because they have chocolate covered bacon, and entire books on how to make better bacon!
I actually bought one of those bars for the not so inexpensive price of $8.17. This place is a high end Willey Wonka kind of store, with individual pieces of various flavors, where you can mix and match a nice custom gift box of any size. They also have some cookie and pancake mixes, along with some various forms of ice creams, which originally drew me in here. Overall the prices are a little steep, but it's a fun place to get lost or find a special gift for someone. -

I tried their Black Pearl Bar and Black Salt Caramel. Delicate. Delectable. Amazing.
Their unusual flavors, and high quality will keep me coming back. -

The best thing about Vosges is that they will give you samples of every bar if you just ask! Even though I basically always wander in for the same things (the half-pound TOFFEE CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE is unbelievable, and I love the Barcelona bar), I always play dumb and ask for as many samples as my conscience will allow.
Appropriately, the store itself is major eye candy. I always feel like I'm stepping into a different world when I walk from the noisy, crowded street into the little purple shop. Everything is purple and silver and shiny and perfectly in place. It's a great place to take a friend for an ice cream on a hot day or to a tourist friend as a break during SoHo shopping.
CHOCOLATE BARS: Even if you aren't eager for some of the crazier pairings (Reishi mushroom powder? wtf), they have plenty of more normal flavors. If you're into the classics (like me) then try the Barcelona (chocolate with sea salt and little bits of nut), black salt and caramel, cherry rooibos, wooloomooloo (hazelnut and coconut), or their toffee bar.
Over the past few years, I've tried a lot of their products, and I wouldn't recommend the pb bon bons or the caramel marshmallow things (even though I usually love anything with pb/chocolate or marshmallows). I also have tried the bacon bar on many occasions and have never wanted more than the one taste; most of my friends agree that it's anywhere from "overrated" to "nasty."
Even though I'm an admitted chocoholic who can literally eat an entire box of truffles without feeling the slightest bit of nausea, I can't even handle their hot chocolate ... way too chocolatey.
Yes, it's expensive. You can buy their bars in Whole Foods and some other places (a few flavors in mini-bar-size at Argo Tea); I feel like they used to be cheaper to buy at Whole Foods than at Vosges, but maybe they aren't anymore. -
Review from Andrew C.
Quality Chocolates. Haven't tasted the other "best" out there in NYC, but this place is DEFINITELY a place to start with.
Wide selection of chocolates, from purity to uniqueness, from bars to truffles, etc. Staff are knowledgeable and somewhat friendly (only if you open up with a smile of course). They will not slave to your every need unless you ask for some help. Being nice to them entitles you a chance to ask for extra sampling as well.
What I'd come here for? People who LOVE chocolate, and that you think they might appreciate some good gourmet chocolate. It's a PERFECT place for gifts if you want something nice and small, with a nice bag & purple box (those things combined probably adds to the overhead costs of the chocolates). Taking a date here for some hot chocolate/truffle tasting can be sweet too.
Why 4 stars?
A) The Staff CAN be a little snotty/rude/know it all attitude, but they're the experts, so deal with it.
B) The PRICE of the items...goodness. In my opinion, depending on the person you're getting a gift for, something under 20 dollars + a card for the occasion is PLENTY enough for thoughtfulness. -
Review from Joe B.

This place is an utter joke.
For the price you pay, there should be some type of service...asking a question of any of the so called staff seemed to be a chore.
There were 4 staff people in the store...yes you read that right..4(FOUR!)....and there were only 2-3 customers. And with that ratio, none of them left from behind the counter to help anyone.
They are snooty, rude and not helpful.
The chocolate, while being good and interesting(different, unique flavors) is by far from the best chocolate out there.
Those factors combined lead to my poor rating...I would never go back. -

Yum!
Delicious combinations of spices, bacon (!) caramel, sea salt, wasabi, sesame, chilis, etc. etc. and divine chocolate.
The cold chocolate drinks were good, I preferred the white chocolate with lavender, and I am not usually a fan of white chocolate. Good ingredients worth every penny! -

I have always been a fan of Vosges, and I have tried many of their chocolate bars :) Mmmmm... My favorites have always been the Black Salt Caramel and Black Pearl, but I'm now a fan of the Blood Orange Caramel. Meow~
I recommend ordering one of their hot chocolate creations and snacking on the samples that are always on their community table. I love love love Vosges chocolate. -
Review from Sarah B.
This place is VERY pricey, but also very delicious. The only thing I've actually purchased here is the hot chocolate (and I've done so on numerous occasions - the white chocolate with lavendar is heavenly). At $5 a glass, the hot chocolate is almost a deal - people pay that much for Starbucks without batting an eye.
Every single piece of solid chocolate I've sampled here has also been on point, but I just can't bring myself to spend $7 on a chocolate bar, even if it is curry infused or chockful of Michigan cherries. I haven't tried the bacon bar yet though - maybe that will the one that will sway me :) -

I should know by now not to be so skeptical of unorthodox food juxtapositions, but I was still surprised by how good the bacon-chocolate and curry chocolate were. The chocolate here is delicious and inventive.
One point lost because the place just feels a bit too polished and corporate for my taste. The chocolate itself gets five stars all the way. -
Review from Isana G.
The hot chocolate didn't wow me.
But I had: dark chocolate with bacon bits; black salt caramel bar; the peanut-butter bar; chocolate covered mushrooms; a couple truffles; and a cookie with toffee (that was diiiiiviiiiine). Then, I died. From satisfaction. -

A+ for presentation and friendliness of staff
But...after my tasting experience at kee's chocolates, I just don't think Vosges can compare. Sure I love all the chocolates they have. And who doesn't love the purple boudoir theme?
The main problem I had was that out of my 6 truffles, I could not identify 4 of them without looking at the description sheet. I don't know - I know that you want the flavor to be just a hint/suggestion, but when you can't tell one from the other, apart from the fact that one is white chocolate and the other dark...well...i don't know. It's just no good.
I mean, I'm sure I am going to go back if the mood strikes up but I think I'd hit up kee's chocolate beforehand.
Moral of the Story: If you want absolutely fantastic chocolate truffle I'd go to Kee's. If you want to impress someone with pizazz and decor (i.e. that FANCY purple box) then you should get them a box of chocolates from Vosges. -

I'm usually old school when it comes to things - I prefer hard cover books over iPads, old world wine over new world ones, 70s vintage over up and coming designers, etc.
Not so much with Vosges though!
My faves are the Collezione Italiana and of course the dark chocolate bacon bars. Mmmm~~. I will always love La Maison's dark chocolate champagne truffles, but Vosges is an everyday dessert. -
Review from jae z.
Before I go off on my requisite tangent on the history of Place des Vosges and its relation to the similarly named chocolate atelier, I probably should check whether this nexus even exists.
But I don't care.
I don't care that you may have no relation or the desire to have any relation to Place des Vosges, the name reminded me of the Marais, the courtyard, the Dries Van Noten store and the memories of strolling around and giving eye boners to hot Israeli men who sell falafels. Yes, I'm disrespectful and unlike Akon, I've no concerns about telling someone they're hot
Anyway, the actual hot chocolate was a letdown. Probably because we'd gone to Mariebelle the night before, which was more or less the apex of cocoa perfection.
Vosges' hot chocolate had the fancy names, descriptions, flavor blends, but the ultimate execution fell short. The texture was too thin to hold the "complexity" of flavors, which frankly, i'm not even sure work together. -

I love love LOVE the white hot chocolate here!
And I say this as someone who doesn't usually like white chocolate very much (I prefer dark).
Their truffles are also excellent.
I've had mixed feeling about their chocolate bars, depending on which particular flavor. Definitely all high-quality. But some of them just aren't really my thing.
Oh, and the store itself is quite nice, in terms of ambience and presentation. There's also a tall table/counter where you can sip your beverage if you buy it pre-made. -

If you're shopping in SoHo or are just on a chocolate hunt, visit this purple-hued store on Spring. Their chocolate is high quality, with innovative flavor combinations. Some sounded odd to me, but a taste-test proved that the people at Vosges know what they're doing.
Their presentation is chi-chi. I've run to them several times for birthday and holiday gifts and the packaging is lovely.
Needless to say that even if I pop in to buy a gift, I still manage to buy myself a little something too. The hot chocolate hits the spot with its rich flavor and velvety texture, but the Chef Pascal truffles are my favorite item. -

We came in here yesterday looking for gifts and we ended up with the gingerbread toffee and the set of holiday themed mini-bars, neither of which we've tried, they're gifts after all.
At the store they had gingerbread chocolate and caramel toffee on sample, both of which were tasty-licious.
The store is really well laid out, much better than "Le Maison du Chocolat" or other stuffy, gilded cocoa dealers. Some truffles are under glass cases, but most of the merchandise is stacked high on the shelves for your browsing pleasure.
My one gripe would be a lack of pricing. There were 1 or 2 items that I was interested in, but there were no prices listed. Like I said, it's not stuffy, the staff is young and eager to help, but still I don't want to have to go around asking how much things cost.
No bother though, it gets 5 stars because it's the nicest chocolate shop I've ever been in.
Oh! And the saleslady put a free mini-bar into our bag at check out, they prolly do this for everyone, but that's a good thing! -

I can't tell you the number of times vosges has saved me. It's my go to spot for getting christmas gifts, birthday gifts (friends and my own), i'm sorry gifts, long time no see gifts, wedding gifts, everything. Because let's be real here: everybody* loves chocolate and everybody loves gourmet sh*t. It's a fail proof gift. My faves are: the bacon chocolate, the bacon chocolate, and the bacon chocolate. (one thing to note: the service can be a little spotty here. The chocolate is haute, the service shouldn't be)

I remember seeing this store back in the day on the TV and I always wanted to try! I went to SoHo and coincidentally ran into the shop, and remember the tiny tv spew about how this was an inventive chocolate store, and i HAD to go in. they had some kind of sesame samples which was really nice, considering it was $3 to buy a truffle.
I enjoyed the personal touch, where they write down the flavors you had pick out in your mini box.
the chocolates were divine! i love the hard outershell of the truffles.
a note to the other customer: please do not stand in the front of the line, asking the employees how to get in contact with KATRINA like some crazy stalker. Though they gave you information about email, etc, don't reply "i already did, and she hasn't responded," and expect to be given a phone call, you crazy lunatic! *rolls eyes* i was left there for 5 minutes waiting for this episode to be over. More Mo Bars for me. One of the choco-highlights of my trip. I gotta have my serving of dark chocolate bacon bar. On this visit, I sampled 3 new bars: Blood Orange Caramel, Peanut Butter, and Mushroom. I really liked the Blood Orange Caramel an enticing combination of tart and sweet. I end up discovering new favorites - Cherry Rooibos, Black Salt Caramel and Naga Exotic (curry & coconut). It's hard not to buy one of each type of bar.
The customer service here is excellent. I went crazy with all the different flavors and wanted to try so many bars. The girl who was serving me introduced me to the new bars and I had a taste of 5 bars. I ended up buying 6 bars when I intended to only buy 3.
How I first got started was a few years back when a guy I dated gave me a beautiful purple box tied with a purple ribbon. It was a variety box of chocolate bars. I was immediately taken by the exotic combination of flavors and quickly became a fan. I'm so glad to see that they have so many dark chocolate options. Price per bar is steep $7.50 but it's a quick pick-me-up on my down days. -

Life is like a box of chocolates, or so thought Forrest Gump.
I had heard of Vosges Haut Chocolate before; and I was on the lookout for an original Valentine's gift for my best friend. It was February 2007, just a week short of the dreaded day so I needed to retrieve the address so that I could speedily make my purchase. I turned to google and typed "Vosges New York" and a little link came up leading to a website I didn't recognize: Yelp.
I was surprised when aside from listing the address, there was also a little map signaling where the store was, and pictures of the chocolates themselves. Furthermore, I was amused by the tone of the reviews in this strange and attractive red, beige and white website and thus I decided to click on further. Indeed, every profile I clicked led me to even more irreverent and hilarious depictions of experiences and places that I couldn't help feeling entertained as well as illustrated; and I wanted to bookmark so many places that I said to myself that I would come back.
I took the 6 train to Soho and went to the beautiful Vosges chocolate store. I was enthralled with the exquisite originality in which Vosges had decided to present it's chocolate; slipcases of "Chocolate Libraries" containing samples of different flavors of chocolate with strange names and concoctions. The black pearl white bags of chocolate chips with wasabi, which at first sight looked unassuming and dull; the cute little boxes of toffees resembling a makeup kit, or the dark chocolate Matzo crackers... I settled for a beautiful heart shaped box with chocolates, and another one for myself. Then I went home and while I sank my tooth and the delicious sweetness melted in my mouth, I logged in to this curious website again, "Yelp".
And much like what I was being offered through my box of chocolates, I surveyed profiles and reviews with distinct personalities and characteristics; each a voice of it's own. Atif I - Marzipan, Sam P - Butter Pecan, Joolie T - Wild Strawberries, Yinna W - Orange Citrus, Michelle G - Spicy Ginger, Erica C - Almond Cinnamon... and inspired by these Yelpers I opened my account that day; fat, dizzy and enraptured with the chemical equivalent of love after the consumption of so many different types of chocolates... of course this explains much of the frame of mind of Yelper Javier M in his tenure in Yelp so far. I blame Vosges, for it's mighty rapture enamores the sweet taste buds in the tongue, much like Yelp does the neurons in the creative mind; for indeed in a box of chocolates, as in Yelp, you never know what it is you're gonna get. -

The first time I went to Vosges Haut Chocolat, I got a feeling in my stomach that I couldn't trace. Looking back in my emotional Rolodex, it's the same feeling I used to get when a guy I thought was way out of my league came over to talk to me at a party/bar/etc.
In all honesty, Vosges really is too good for me. You see, I am a chocolate whore-I'll consume any confection from the chocolate family. Hell, I even eat those Hanukkah chocolate gelt coins with joy. What you'll find at Vosges is delicious and creative beyond my wildest comprehension. Bacon + Chocolate=tastes good? YES!
The truffles are artfully presented and the gift boxes are to die for. Whoever is in charge of their packaging gets an A++ and hopefully a raise this Christmas. It's elegant, velvety-textured purple boxes that you'll want to display long after the chocolate morsels are gone. The gift boxes are also a truly good value. I debated bringing one to a housewarming party, but decided that the hosts weren't worthy of such a luxurious gifts yet-hey, sometimes you have to climb the friendship totem pole.
The confections run from the typical (chocolate + caramel) to the exotic (chocolate + wasabi). We sampled a couple of truffles (and the free samples displayed-yum!) If you are a sugar whore like moi, you will happily plunk down $2.50 for a truffle that can be consumed in one Miss Piggy-like bite. In times of crisis, like a breakup or PMS, Vosges can be your greatest frenemy, so proceed with caution. That being said, truly good chocolate is the best savored in quality vs quantity.
-1 star for the service. If you're working in a chocolate shoppe I expect the employees to be excited, passionate, and friendly. None of the above. They treated it like a chore. Sad. If chocolate can't make your life better, you might as well pull the trigger now, sweetie.Listed in: I want you in my mouth!, Fancy Pants

Review from Cara A.
I'm sorry, Yelp. But based on my experiences, Vosges doesn't warrant the hype. It's good; it's not orgasmic.
I remember the first time I tried Vosges chocolates at a party a couple of years ago. I remarked how attractive the box was, how pretty the chocolates looked. But when I took a bite, the disconnect between appearance and taste (beautiful and just-ok, respectively) was a bummer. So I did what any self-respecting chocolate researcher would do, and tried about seven more pieces, different flavors. Unfortunately, similar disappointment ensued.
Lots of people seem enamored with the bacon + chocolate bar. I get it. It's a jazzy and unusual pairing (at least it was initially, before it got "haut"), and for bacon-lovers, it's cool. But since I don't eat or like bacon, this clearly doesn't excite me.
The pandan chocolate ice cream is scrumptious, but it's definitely a once-in-a-while treat.
Incidentally, I find the "How to eat chocolate" page on the Vosges web site to be patronizing. I'll eat my chocolate however I damn well please.
To summarize: The chocolates are tasty. But worth this price and (oftentimes) attitude? No. Nyet. Non. Oxi. Nein. -

I've never actually been here, but this really hott guy gave me a little box of the chocolates the other day. One was Ambrosia, another was dark chocolate and curry, and the other two I have yet to consume.
*Note: when you eat them, make sure to NIBBLE slowly. Here's why:
As I bit into the first one, the ambrosia, that look crossed my face. You know the one right when you are about to, um, hit that moment of utter bliss in the bedroom. You know how sometimes it's just so fuckin good that you are afraid of what would happen if you have too much? Yeah, this is another one of those moments. Yup. NIBBLE.
Same goes for the dark chocolate and curry. I'm telling you.

It seems the trademark of this chocolate maker is unusual pairings of flavors. All I can say, after sampling the exotic truffle collection, is that it works wonderfully!
I'm a fan of the:
* naga - sweet indian curry powder + coconut + milk chocolate
* black pearl - ginger + wasabi + dark chocolate + black sesame seeds
* wink of the rabbit - soft caramel + milk chocolate + organic New Mexican pecan (my fav)
* wooloomooloo - Australian macadamia nut + coconut + milk chocolate
* gianduja - crunchy hazelnut praline + milk chocolate + praline bits
* ambrosia - macadamia nuts + Cointreau + white chocolate
Definitely not a fan of the:
* budapest - sweet hungarian paprika + dark chocolate
* chef pascal - kirsch + dark chocolate + dried Michigan cherry
* Chinese star anise + fennel + pastis + cocoa powder
I like the stories that accompany the truffles too, about what inspired their creation.
I think these make a unique gift for someone, or just to indulge yourself every once in awhile! -

I had the exotic liquid chocolate or whatever they call it. I normally call it "hot chocolate". It tasted just like a mediocre hot chocolate, but it wasn't called "hot chocolate" and it cost 5 bucks. Imagine going to a place and ordering something that looks like a hot dog but is called a " aromatic meat pole in baked wheat bun" that costs $10. You'd probably give that place 3 stars too.
Needless to say, I've had better hot chocolate.Listed in: I'm Feeling (jet)Blue - My…

Review from David L.
Sometimes I really, really, really luck out -- I love my life.
Yesterday my friend and I were walking around Soho, and at my suggestion, knowing how much he absolutely adores chocolate, we stopped in here.
There was some sort of party -- free prosecco (I had two glasses), free chocolate (I tried four different kinds)! They kept refilling everything, nothing ever ran out -- and the employees were all extremely pleasant... My favorite was the Barcelona Bar, oh gosh I kept going on and on about how much I loved it...
I'm not really a chocolate person (that's right, you heard me... I actually said this outloud in the store yesterday and some woman shot me a horrified and disgusted look, it was hilarious)... Vosges actually makes the only "candy bar" I ever crave -- their "Goji / Himilayan Hibiscus Salt" bar drives me absolutely crazy, I dream about it constantly... With the Barcelona Bar, It's nice to have a new addition.
Because I never know when enough is enough, I sat down on one of their very comfortable wooden seats, got comfortable at their beautiful marble bar, and ordered a bowl of ice cream: Aboriginal wattleseed (which tastes slightly like a mix between pepper, cocoa, and vanilla), roasted macadamia nuts, and a wonderfully creamy custard -- it was extremely delicious, subtle, but I couldn't finish the whole thing, thankfully my voracious friend (who only ordered an Americano coffee) was there to swoop in and help clear my plate. -

You know, the whole 'lets think of some really weird, savory ingredient to mix with chocolate' fad has been going on for quite a while, but I'm still a sucker for it!
I loved everything about Vosges - creative flavors, the service, the little gift shop, and mostly, the setting of the store. If I ever opened a little boutique, I would want it to look just like the Vosges store.
A cool, funky experience in chocolate. A must-try! -
Review from Augusta S.

Leave it to the innovative Chocolatiers at Vosges to come up with mouthwatering, mind-blowing concoctions that in excess would lead to Confectionary's Anonymous meetings in every corner of the world they deliver. And this coming from someone without much of a sweet tooth!
I reserve my one sweet tooth for Vosges, the occasional Sprinkles cupcake, and Golden Spoon, but I digress...
Kalamata olives and white chocolate? Appplewood smoked bacon and deep milk chocolate? Taleggio cheese and bittersweet dark chocolate?
I feel giddy whenever I await an order from Vosges. Ever since my first visit to the shop in Soho, NYC... my mouth waters and my loins flutter in anticipation of every rich, sweet bite.
The Collezione Italiano is my ABSOLUTE favorite truffle collection. Best savored with a glass of Moet & Chadon White Star...eyes closed to fully embrace the sweet and tangy taste of the Olio d'Olivia a white chocolate truffle infused with dried Kalamata olives and extra virgin olive oil....or the Rooster, a cone shaped truffle of Taleggio cheese, which is one of the oldest cheeses known - enjoyed since before the 10th century, soft in texture and with a slighty fruity flavor it is the perfect compliment to the walnuts, Tahitian vanilla bean and bittersweet dark chocolate it embraces in the form of the Rooster.
Other delectable goodies include the Mo's Bacon Bar - a chocolate bar with Applewood smoked bacon. I know, crazy sounding, but the taste is amazing. Also the Bapchi's Caramel Toffee - which reminds me a little of Almond Roca but richer and more buttery.
The store in Soho was a delight. Offering a chance to try before the buy... which considering this isn't the candy aisle at the local 7-11 is much appreciated.Listed in: NYC, NY

If there was a place that you can get wild at work creating chocolate flavors or to buy some funk-ti-fied chocolate, look no further. You've arrived.
Vosges Haut Chocolat puts the funk in choc-o-late. They sell an item here called the Mo's bacon bar. My wife said eww.. but after careful examination, this is the bar by far the funkiest out there.
Its not a bacon stip where you are pulling at a strip like a caveman in the Geico commercials. No, this is very fine, smoked bacon crunchies and sea salt particles. Other yelpers said heck no but It is so wortth the $8 bucks for this chocolate bar.

The truffles are inventive and the bars are smooth as scotch. Sure, it was a lot better when my friend used to work there and pass me the goodies for free. I'll still go in every once in a while and splurge on some naga and black pearl. Then I'll go home, inhale the entire box and drool chocolate for days.
But seriously, stop with the clothing already. Nobody wants to buy a $900 chocolate-scented bedazzled purple leather jacket with sparkly fringe. Not even Prince. Ok, maybe just Prince.Listed in: Chocolicious

Went here to pick up some gifts for Christmas. I like that they do samples! And it's a different sample every day, at least, that is what the lady behind the counter said. It is pricey, but that is what you would expect from a specialty chocolate shop. I have had their bacon chocolate before (not a fan, the texture of the bacon doesn't translate well into a candy bar) and wasn't that impressed. But the samples were delicious (a caramel toffee and a gingerbread chocolate) that I ended up getting some gifts there. I like their flavor combinations and presentation.
I didn't give 5 stars because there were no prices on a majority of the items. I like to have an idea of how much I am spending before I get to the register. However, the lady that helped us was very nice and unpretentious. She also threw in a sample bar with the purchase.
I wouldn't go here to get chocolates for myself (too pricey!) but it is a great spot for a gift...and a snack.
