This place is great! I went for the first time about a month ago and I've been going 1-2 times a week since.
Von's has a lunch menu with a large selection of items that are guaranteed to arrive within ten minutes. If they take too long, you don't have to pay. I have had the turkey melt, which is really good, and also the grilled cheese sandwich, which is pretty decent. The fries are great! I have never waited longer than 7-8 minutes to get my food, and my bill with a drink and 20% tip is usually about twelve bucks.
The service is average -- nothing to write home about but they're nice enough. -

I can't really complain about the food, it was pretty good. We came here for a pre-function meal. We got seated easily enough and I told the waitress we wanted to take advantage of the Happy Hour deal.
So we ordered beers and food. Everything was prompt and good. We paid the girl and went to our concert.
The next day I was doing math in my head and realized that I think the waitress may have forgot to give us our HH deal. So I went to their website and emailed the GM ? and gave him the whole story and asked him to possibly look into this matter.
That was last week and do you think he would reply???? Nope!
Von's loses 1 star for poor customer service. -

Von's was warm and inviting on a chilly Saturday afternoon. I ordered the burger and a hot tea. The burger was really good, but I wouldn't say it's the best. Service was fine.
It was odd to see so many people having a drink at 1:00pm on a Saturday afternoon.
I give Von's a solid 3 stars. -

The place exists solely for boozy alcoholics and their admirers, unknowing out-of-towers, and edgy suburbanites from the East Side.
That cheap Martini sign is so misleading! Grrrr!
The price here for the two martinis I had : Aviation and Hendricks gin based martinis, were way way way over area standards, especially for somewhere so not-classy-what-so-ever.
Some drunk sassy pants boy fell out of his chair as he was sitting down, and his head landed in my lap. Cute, honey, but that girl you're with needs to cute you off pronto, because the server should have cut you off half an hour ago. -

I think my standard for food has increased since moving to Seattle because I only thought the food was "so-so" compared to other happy hour options. Due to location, they still do get a lot of business and they have the giant wheel to spin during happy hour. This definitely keeps it fun...and happy!
I ordered appetizers and especially enjoyed the rock shrimp cocktail. The prices are very fair and if you work down town it is more than accessible. -

As the lovely Sarah S said... come here for a Pre-Paramount show cocktail.
If the weather permits, the outdoor seating is fabulous for people watching and catching up before your show.
The food isn't worth mentioning, standard "upscale" american diner fare.. BUT! $3.50 Martinis plus they have that cocktail roulette. Every 30 min a new drink gets spun and is usually somewhere between $3-4. Stay for at least an hour to get two different ones, or be like my friend Holly and just stay here all night and end up spending $80 on booze and needing a cab ride home. -

It's OK. Good location, good drinks, nice decor. The food? Not so good. I ordered the salmon with a side of broccoli and a salad. Fish was bland, overdone, 1 stalk of steamed broccoli and the salad was chopped iceberg with a few pieces of diced tomato. That's it. Hospital food.

After both my friend tripped on the same ledge trying to enter the establishment, the dining experience was good. Our waitress, Emylia was working the entire dining room. My sirloin was very tender. The cornbread served while you wait was delicious

This place has a special place in my heart because when I was dating I used to take my wife there. She liked the place but could only remember the Chicken Roasting in the Window. I did not know the name of the place either but I drove by Von's and she said it was the right place and we been going out for dinner ever since.

Stayed in the Roosevelt next door for business; that's a whole other story. Dropped in for dinner on a Sunday evening. Was really surprised by the Sunday crowd in the bar. Decided to join vs going in the dinning area. Servers were busting there tails and service was good. Ordered a couple of Kettle One's, they came cold with 3 olives and a spray of vermouth before pouring. Expensive, but decent sized pours. I ordered the Salmon and Chips. The fries were nothing to write home about, but the Salmon was yummy, crisp on outside, moist in the middle.

The perfect place to go before a show at the Paramount Theater.
I love that you can park at Pacific Place for $6 all night - walk one block - gather here for a drink/dinner - then, walk 2 short blocks and go to the Paramount to enjoy your concert/musical/entertainment.
Four of us went to Von's last weekend with this goal. I've eaten here before, but in the slightly cramped bar. A tip: make a reservation! For a 6:30 show I made a reservation for 5:00 and they set us up very nicely on the RH (fancier, but still comfy) side of the restaurant. Nice street view of busy Seattle.
The food was better than expected: apps are 1/2 off on Sundays, and for the meals you choose one piece of meat plus choice of two sides (small or large cut). I had the small roasted chicken, and it was still HUGE to me. The red potatoes were not diced; instead they were like mashed potatoes with a smooth, buttery taste. I ate every single bite.
The server was absolutely wonderful. A young blonde with a great sense of humor, she knew of our 6:30 showtime and not only was able to get all of our drinks (more than one round), apps, dinner and check out in a timely manner, she brought one of us a free chocolate birthday cake!! And HERE IS THE COOL PART: we didn't even tell her it was this guy's birthday (which was actually the day before). She noticed while checking our ID's and all the servers came out with a cute little song!
Damn -- I didn't pay for this meal, but I hope she was tipped well. She deserved it for making our night so special. :) -

A friend of mine had graciously offered me an extra ticket she had to the Blue Man Group, how could I pass that up?! Of course I couldn't, so we met up here for a drink and some grub before the performance.
I was running a little late, the 520 bridge was closed and I'm an "Eastsider" so I had to take the I-90 bridge and it took about 20 mins or so longer that usual. Anyway, she was there waiting for me with her sister and her sister's date. They all had a drink but were waiting patiently for me before ordering food, which I thought was very considerate. Our server was quick to take my drink order and our food orders soon after.
I wasn't feeling to hungry so I just had a couple of items off the "Little Plates" menu. I had the BBQ Pull-Meat Sliders and a cup of the All-Clam Clam Chowder. The sliders, 2 of them, were delicious. They were made with a great pulled pork in BBQ sauce, topped with little crispy onion rings and melted in your mouth. The "All-Clam Clam Chowder" was delicious too, some of the best clam chowder I've had in a long time.
Seems like everyone else enjoyed their meal too and I would definitely recommend this place as I'm sure I'll be back again. -

This was the second time me and my husband went to Vons for happy hour and as always it was great. The drink are yummy and I love all the choices, enough to make your head spin before you even start drinking! The service was a bit slow this time, I don't know how many times the waitress ran by our table without even a glance...I could have at least recieved some more napkins or condiments or something with a glance, instead I was tempted to go get them myself but my husband talked me out of it.
But I have to say the cheesburger is AMAZING! We decided we were hungry enough to split the cheesburger and onion rings since we would be having dinner a few hours later, and WOW I could have eaten the whole burger plus more! We will be back for happy hour and a cheesburger next time we are in town. Spin that wheel!!! -

Nice atmosphere and original style decor. Feels nostalgic and fun.
Food was very good but portions are a bit small. 1/2 chicken was wonderful but it was missing a breast. Technically it should be called "the 1/4 chicken" because it was a thigh and a leg. That was strange to have it on the menu as 1/2!
Petite prime rib was good but nothing I'm going to rave about. I'll save that 5 star for a real steak house prime rib.
Appetizers are half price during happy hour. Check the web site for details. -

Brought my family from out of state to the restaurant for new year's eve dinner because this place was recommended to me. We walked in at 6pm and they told us to come back in 2 hours because they haven't started serving dinner. So we walked around for a few hours and came back. I went in to get seating and the front host told me I could not get a table for 6 because they had no room. She didn't even try to look around or combine a table, then she had the nerve to say they are only seating for 2 . So I was like ok so then split us up then... sorry sir theres nothing I can do, why dont you try the cheesecake factory! HAHA r u serous? Ya this is my first yelp review! never going back there!! Ended up going to Blue C Sushi since not to many restaurants were open. Fireworks at the end of the night gave this review one star instead of 0!

Originally, we stopped in because the crowd was popping and the wall looked crazy with all the beer taps and crazy decorations.
Drinks are pretty stiff. You definitely get your moneys worth.
You seat yourself and the service is quick and friendly.Listed in: Seattle

A group of co-workers and I stopped in here for a quick drink after work and before a banquet function on a Friday night. Key word here is "quick" -- the place was jammed. In our server's defense, there were 7 persons in our party, and we had to scavenge chairs, including one from the dining room.
The place is lively, a great vibe, and the drinks were very good . . . but it took a long time to get them. The atmosphere detracts your attentino from the wait, but you should allow 10 minutes to place your drink order and then another 10 minutes to get your drinks. -

The food was great, I had the Sirloin dip and prawn cocktail, both of which were delicious. But the reason that I gave 5 stars is the service. My family and I stopped there for happy hour and because we have 3 kids we could not sit in the bar. The dining room was booked with reservations but the manager did not turn us away. They seated us within about 15 minutes and gave us great service! The food came out ver quickly as well which allowed us to walk across the street in time for the snow at Pacific Place. All in all it was an awesome experience and I have been telling everyone I know! Thanks Von's!

Two stars doesn't mean Von's is terrible. It just means it may take a while to get a drink.
My friend and I were on the patio with fast and friendly service but once the sun went down and more friends joined us at a table inside, no one wanted to approach our table to serve the newcomers.

Von's gets packed, but it's just another so-so spot near Pacific Place.
* Last visit, near empty restaurant, aloof service.
* Not a single smile from anyone
* Food was very very salty, the "Salmon & Chips" was tasty enough.
* Nice Happy Hour food menu selection, but no real deals.
* Worth checking out if you're into beer+roast. -

Out of all the years that I've spent passing by this place, I finally had the nerve to enter...how can you resist $3.50 gin/vodka martinis ALL DAY??!!!
My girlfriend and I found seats immediately and we had each of our vodka martinis in less than 5 minutes. Talk about service! The martinis were deliciously-strong and we ordered 2-types of lettuce wraps to go along with it. We had Chinese Chicken Romaine cups and the Citrus Tabbouleh lettuce wraps. Our favorite was definitely the chinese chicken cups, which had more flavor, but the Tabbouleh was definitely fresh at its best!
15 minutes later we hear someone on the microphone..."$4 lemon drops for the next 30 minutes!"...following with laughter and an applause from the crowd. We look over and there's this huge spinning wheel on the wall listed different drink specials. HAHA Amazing!
We were kind of in a rush so we weren't able to stay for the $4 Jameson shots, but man what a surprisingly awesome place! Definitely going back when I wanna go drunk-shopping. :-) -

Spin the wheel!
Yes, a perfect place to unwind after work downtown, but everyone else thinks the same thing. And the tourists like the location, so be warned. No, I've never gotten a seat near the wheel but I do usually get the lovely Russian blonde, I believe Emilee, who always knows what the wheel is doing! Spun each half hour, if you are nice maybe 15 minutes, to show a new drink special. Decent happy hour deals and a mouth watering fried brie with mango. The dining room also includes happy hour deals, which is nice considering that getting a chair outside or near the wheel is close to impossible.... someday. -

I usually go there for Happy hour with friends. The food is really good and at happy hour, it is really cheap. Happy hour is super short though. There is not really a happy hour drink menu. They do spin the wheel, so if your drink comes up, you are lucky. They do have an amazing selection of alcohol though. The service has been mixed in the bar area, though they do have a lot of tables crammed in there.

For a place that is clearly built around its liquor sales more than its food, Von's has a least a few good dining options. I had the pulled pork sandwich and was pleasantly surprised. My dining partner got a different sandwich (forgot which one) and was also happy. The wings were tasty, and the beer selection was very good. The scene is a little too touristy or kitschy or something... couldn't quite put my finger on it. Wouldn't be the kind of place where I'd become a regular, but for a tourist looking for good grub and a beer near the hotel, it was a pleasant surprise.

We arrived late at night in Seattle. We were hungry and hungry for delicious food and tasty drinks. Most of restaurants in downtown were closed and we stumbled upon Von's.
We walked in and it was pretty crowded. We seated ourselves and our waiter came not too long after we sat down. We browsed through the menu and prices seemed pretty reasonable for late night dining.
I settled for Salmon tacos ($8 ish) and the $3.50 Vodka Martini. My man ordered the Fried Chicken ($9ish) and a shot of Cuervo for $3. Yes, they have this awesome wheel that they spin and whatever drinks the wheel stop at, all customers can order that drink at that price. It just happened to be , when we were there the wheel landed at $3 Cuervo shot.
The noise level at this place can be overwhelming. When we were there, about 10 early twenty something girls were celebrating a birthday of one of them. They were shrieking, talked loudly (like really like loud like). At one time, our waiter grabbed the bar's microphone and said "Indoor voice please indoor voice." After he said that, he's pretty much grabbed the rank of my favorite waiter ever!
I think Von's gave me the big surprise ever with the Fried Chicken. It was so damn good. I'm usually not breast fan (I heart bewbies tho). However, Von's chicken breast was delicioso. It was moist, seasoned perfectly, and tender. It was served in a basket with cajun fries which were amazing as well.
My Salmon tacos were just so so. That fried chicken tho...OH MANNNNN...I dream about it since we are back in Portland. Really, the chicken is that good. I swear to you! -

I'll start off by saying come here for Happy Hour and if you like it return for dinner. We happened to come come here twice while visiting Seattle. Once for drinks - $3.50 Martini all the time had us curious and once for happy hour.
Regular food and beer/drink prices are on the pricey side. Happy hour is where it is at. We had the chicken lettuce cups ($2.75), calamari($5), salmon tacos($3.25) and crudite ($3.50) - All happy hour pricing (50% off the casual menu) All were very good and you can't go wrong at those prices. Beer and drinks are relatively expensive. Draft beer is $8 for a 22oz. If you aren't a beer snob and just want a cheap beer go for PBR at $5 for a22 oz or take advantage of the drink wheel they spin every half hour. $3.50-$4 for a decent cocktail or shot, whatever it happens to land on. Location is great, get an outdoor seat if you can. Just wish the happy hour lasted longer than 5-6pm (everday) -

Stayed in the Roosevelt hotel and heard lots about this place before even walking through the door. The joint was packed and loud on a saturday afternoon and my eyes just about jumped out of my head....
..$3.50 martinis...that's right...you read it right...$3.50 martinis.
Didn't check out the food but the bar and liquor selection was out of this world. -

Capitol Hill, Seattle, WA
Von's is perfect cold, grey, rainy day food.
I went today for lunch and we were seated and immediately given fresh cornbread with maple butter.
I ordered the open face turkey and cheddar sandwich, and the portion was huge!! I was given white meat turkey breast on a slice of sour dough bread over a heaping portion of mashed potatoes and smothered in cheese, gravy and bbq sauce. I was also given purple cabbage, broccoli and carrots with just a little cheese sauce on top. The food was good and warmed me right up although I wasn't crazy about the BBQ sauce. Von's is definitely not an every day lunch spot.
Service was mostly good. Took a while to get the bill paid and a box for my leftovers. You do get all you can eat atomic fireballs though with your check!
And here's my confession: at the door and on each table, there's a paper bag filled with smoking chips. I've had maybe one or two BBQs in my life, so I opened the back expecting chips -- not woodchips! Total disappointment, but everyone else at the table thought it was funny.Listed in: Lunch in Downtown Seattle

I came here with a couple friends after a concert at the Paramount. The place seemed to have a good vibe. If you ordered a martini it was super cheap. If you ordered any other drink it was like $8.50 or so and not good. I'm talking bottom of the shelf vodka. They called last call and within 5 minutes they were SCREAMING at everyone to get out. Classy baby. Classy.
I had to sit on this one for a bit to make sure I was honest in my review and I probably won't return.
The best thing for me was noticing they had fireball candies in a bucket hanging from the wall near the restrooms.
Oh yeah. The restrooms were GROSS too. -

Welcome to the worst service on earth! Before going here, ask yourself the following questions:
Would you like to get your own menu because your waiter won't acknowledge you?
Would you like to wait half an hour for your drink order?
Would you like a martini that doesn't even halfway fill the glass?
Would you like lipstick on your martini glass? Washing them wastes water!
Would you like your waiter to mess up your order?
Would you like your waiter to take half an hour to charge your credit card?
Are you looking for a restaurant where you don't have to leave a tip (I sure didn't!)?
If you answered yes to these questions, Von's is for you! Yep, had every one of these things happen. Thanks for the memories, Von's! -

Seattle, WA
I'd seen this place a multitude of times while downtown. Coincidentally, a friend came in from out of town and some of her former co-workers were meeting there for happy hour. So I tagged along to eliminate the mystery and to see what the hubbub was over this place.
We walked in and the place is deceptively huge. There are multiple rooms that stretch back from the street and an army of waiters that swarm around. We were seated quickly in a room with beer tap handles festooning the walls from ceiling to floor. We received menus and hot cornbread. The server asked if we wanted maple butter which she poured liberally from a small pot. Once our party was complete, we ordered drinks and read over the menus.
They have a wheel that is spun periodically for drink specials. Our waiter informed us that gin rickeys were on special. I love a well-made gin rickey so I ordered one. It wasn't the best I'd ever had but it WAS the strongest drink I'd had in a while. I had to take my time with it or else I'd have been buzzing before the apps hit the table.
We placed our order solely from their happy hour menu after our waiter explained that everything was half off the posted prices. The prices were so cheap that we went a little overboard. I imagine that had we known the sizes of some of the things that we ordered... we might have exercised a little restraint. In all, we ordered the Roaster Nachos Supreme, ale-battered chicken fingers, crudités, ceviche stack (not from the happy hour menu), cast iron Ahi, fried Brie, and a classic cheeseburger.
The food was decent. I loved my platter of crudités and nachos, the latter of which could have fed two. I would advise against the chicken strips. They were overly salty for my tastes. And skip the fried Brie unless you love battered cheese. I've had fried Brie at other places before but Von's version was overly battered with this crunchy crust... I ended up trying to salvage the inside with my spoon but failed.
I ordered a second drink when the drinks specials changed. This time an exceedingly strong Manhattan arrived to the table. It was so strong that I had to have it watered down a little. I would go back if I were in the area during happy hour but now that I know what to expect, I'd order a lot less and probably get the burger for myself. It looked quite good. -

We only had a couple of Martinis and a Potsticker appetizer in the bar, so can't review the restaurant. The place is a little too brightly lit, but it has good energy and was pretty busy. TV's for sports. A "drink wheel" that they spin for drink specials throughout the evening. The drinks and food were good. The service was OK. Ginia started-off a bit cool and unfriendly but she warmed-up. Conveniently located to several hotels and if you want a Martini or a Manhattan they can certainly make that happen.

Went here to meet up with an old friend and catch up. The place was a bit loud for that. Also, I ordered a Patron Silver on the rocks ($9), and received maybe a one ounce shot, and she told me that I finished what they had. Seriously? The liquor stock was huge, how is this possible? Unimpressed.

I've eaten here once. Yuck. I've had a drink and have attempted to get a drink here and won't be back. We sat in the restaurant for 20 minutes, they weren't really busy as we had two people come up and try to take our order, but after 20 minutes of asking where our drinks were (we had a movie and were trying to make it on time) and receiving the same response ("The bartender is making them") we up and left. Honey, don't give us attitude when we order a scotch and a beer then have to leave after the bartender (and you) are busy picking your ass in the corner instead of making our drinks.

Me and my best friend were looking for a happy hour, so we stopped inside. This place does not host a happy hour, sadly! We decided to stay because she told me they have reasonable drinks.
This place is extremely mediocre. If you are not a beer drinker, don't go here. My friend got the lettuce wraps (not tasty) and I got their crunchy shrimp off of the appetizer menu (lack luster, all breading), but the blue cheese salad on the side was great considering it was half blue cheese dressing/crumbles. WHERE COULD YOU GO WRONG WITH THAT?
To top it off, we decided to eat in their outside patio... BAD IDEA. It is a front row seat to pan handeling and a circus show! (NO DISCRIMINATION HERE, they were all colors/races/sex). I know that the restaurant can't help it, but it really put a damper on our experience. Even the gentlemen seating next to us looked over and commented.
Maybe we weren't drunk enough..... I don't know, but I will enter here only when I'm desperate. -

Mountain View, CA
We had a post-wedding breakfast at Von's RoastHouse since many of our guests were staying at the adjoining Roosevelt Hotel.
Leading up to the breakfast, the staff was responsive and very helpful with the planning -- particularly the manager who went out of his way to help make sure everything was as we wanted. The price was also very reasonable, especially for the downtown location.
At the breakfast itself, however, numerous problems arose. The servers essentially left us to our own devices to forage for food, coffee, etc. Even though Von's had been given a headcount in advance of the breakfast, they repeatedly ran out of food, coffee, plates, and flatware. Guests were stuck waiting in the buffet line for 5+ minutes -- first to get a hold of the servers, who were scarce, and then to wait for the servers to bring the requested item(s).
Additionally, the Mother of the Groom had arranged for mimosas to be served at the breakfast. The mimosas never appeared. After complaining to the servers, the mimosas were left on a tray in a hallway. One of the guests was forced to act as a server and offer the mimosas around.
After the breakfast, the manager did provide some compensation for the lack of adequate food, supplies, and service. Although the compensation was appreciated, it was in the form of a Von's gift certificate, which was obviously not ideal.
On the one hand, the service was deplorable. On the other hand, the location was unbeatable and the restaurant was spacious. Overall, I would not recommend Von's for large groups. -

What a waste of time and money. The food was sub-par and the service even worse. The place deceives you with it's alluring "roast house" schtick, and then falls flat. If I could give it zero stars I would.

Seattle, WA
My co-workers and I began going here a few weeks ago as a weekly tradition; a "management get-away," if you will. Yes, we initially chose it because it's a few doors down from where we work and yes, we stayed because they served us alcohol at 9:30 a.m., but we've gone back because of the following key components that we can all agree on:
1) A polite staff who always checks in to see how we're doing.
2) A damn good Bloody Mary and a well-proportioned Mimosa.
3) A cozy, chill atmosphere that we don't feel bad being loud and obnoxious in at various times during the day.
4) A consistently clean restroom and waiting area.
5) Well prepared, tasty food when ever we've gone in (breakfast and lunch thus far). Your basic American grill/bar grub menu. A Denny's Restaurant on steroids, really. Consistent at both times of the day.
What more do you need?
The food is pricey, but this is Belltown, people. The heart of touristy-tourist land in downtown Seattle. Of course it's going to be an $8.50 sandwich, because Canadian tourists will *pay* for it because they're on vacation and don't know where else to go. If you want cheap, you're in the wrong neighborhood.
And for those whom say they've gotten food poisoning, congrats! You're the one-in-ten people whom this is bound to happen to at any given restaurant. I'm sorry that you didn't get a coupon or something for free for your 24 hour bug that you complained about. Move on.
