The BEST Volvo dealership in the Chicago area - they treat their customers superbly, the prices and packages and better than those at any other Volvo dealer in the area (by a good $2K!) and you truly can't beat their service. I just bought a C70 convertible and when I got home discovered that my second key wasn't working - the very next day they had a new one waiting for me free of charge.

As a woman, it's really hard to not to be intimidated at a dealership and I felt lucky to have a female salesperson, Candice. She called the next morning to thank me for my business and to make sure I was just as happy as I was when I left the showroom.

I've purchased 6 cars in my adult life...this was the best experience I've ever had!

I purchased my new Volvo in August 2010 from Volvo of Oak Park and have had a pleasurable experience.  This was my first car purchase for myself since 1991 and my family's first luxury car purchase ever.

I didn't need a car, but I've been wanting to buy my own European convertible for a number of years, so I wanted what I wanted and didn't need to just pick a car from the dealership's inventory.  To that end, the sales person (Andre) found the car I was looking for in Wisconsin and had it ready for me the same week.

I had a small issue with my second key not working with the car, which the dealership replaced upon a visit to the Service Department.

A special touch of customer service was given to me by the Business Development Manager Dan Dwyer as he put my car in the showroom so I could literally drive my new vehicle off the show room floor - very nice touch.

Additionally, Dwayne in the Service Daprtment has taken care of the minor issues I've had and I look forward to dealing with him as my Volvo comes in for its scheduled maintenance (5 year/60 mile protection plan).

I'm more than happy with my experience with Volvo of Oak Park and like the relationships I've made with Dan and Dwayne.

They have excellent and reliable service but they are outrageously overpriced.

I love Volvo of Oak Park!!!  I first came to it after a slimy, sales experience at Orloff in Bucktown, which is blocks away from where I live.  I schlep out to Volvo of Oak Park because I am treated so well - I would say I am spoiled!  Having been with them for years now, I am on my second Volvo and the level of service has always been stellar.  I was very surprised when they managed to surpass that.

I got a 'low tire pressure' reading and was able to IMMEDIATELY bring my car in for a check up.  It turned out that I had a nail in my tire that was located on the side making it impossible to repair - I had to get a new tire.  They put on the spare and asked me to return the next day when the tire I needed would be delivered.  So I did.  The next day it turned out that there was a paperwork mistake and I was sitting and waiting for a tire that wasn't there.

Mark, my service-consultant-professional-extrodinare, arranged it so that I wouldn't have to comeback yet again by taking a tire off one of the new cars on the showroom floor and putting it on mine so I could drive off  and continue with my day!  How fantastic was that?!!!

Being a woman and unfamiliar with cars & their parts, the common fear of being ripped-off and/or talked down to is not something I've ever experienced at Volvo of Oak Park.  I am treated with respect and kindness and all the people I've dealt with have great integrity.  Carlo is my sales guy  & I've purchaed two XC90s from him - price & packages keep on getting better and better.  I highly recommend this Volvo dealership for their great services, prices (especially for women out there who don't want the bad, stereotypical car buying experience).  Give them a try - you won't regret it.

Since I bought my Volvo, sight unseen, on Ebay for cash, I have no idea how the sales people are here....I am, however, a bit too familiar with the mechanics, who are great! Eh, goes with the territory - buy an inexpensive used car on Ebay and you have to expect some repairs, right?

Pricey, but not as bad as having the work done at a Volvo dealer in the city and they often have specials if you check their website.  All the guys there are really nice and have gone above and beyond in helping me prioritize various repairs according to the $$$ I have to spend...they even give discounts to those who are members of Volvo's 100k club, nice touch.

All of the labor/parts are backed up, which makes it worth the extra cost (if you bring your own part, they will install it for you) and you really do get the best service for your money.  As someone who has had to have the same repairs done over and over again on other cars, it makes me feel better knowing that they will absolutely stand behind their work.

Friendly, fast, and incredibly accommodating - if you have a Volvo, you won't find better dealership mechanics than at this location!

A horrible experience, from purchase to when i finally traded in the car i bought somewhere else.

If you research around, you will find out that these guys actively try to dissuade you from financing your purchase -- actually, as happened with me, the used car salesman asked me how my credit was -- i told him it wasn't great, and he shelved any talk of financing. Fortunately [in retrospect not] I had enough cash so that I was able to buy the $5,500 used Volvo by writing a check.

It ran well enough for about three weeks. Multiple things started falling apart and stopped working it seemed every month after that. I didn't take the car back because it was sold 'as is,' and Oak Park is pretty far from where I live, but after a few months I wrote to them, got no response, then contacted the Better Business Bureau, (which is a joke, I think. How objective can they be, since their 'members' have commercials on the phone while you are on hold?) and the service manager replied to the BBB, basically, that there was nothing wrong with the car, what went wrong with it was my fault and that I was stupid because I took it to independent mechanics. They did not offer any sort of refund or free repairs -- they said basically, 'bring it in, we'll look at it.'

I also wrote a letter to the owner of Oak Park Volvo, telling him basically how excited i was to buy a car from his dealership and how happy i was driving away with the car but how disappointed I was when the car started falling apart, which went unanswered. The car did have 100,000 miles on it when i bought it, but it was a Volvo, which should last, with care, maybe five times that long.

Eventually i got so frustrated that i couldn't rely on the car and that i couldn't drive above 55 without smelling foul things from the engine area, that I traded it in after one year for $700 and got a $6,000 Ford Focus with 80,000 miles on it which has been working just fine -- better than the Oak Park Volvo -- ever since.

As far as service goes for people who get their vehicles serviced there, they were sued last year by a woman whose Volvo SUV was stolen from the service lot because the keys were left in the ignition after hours. You can look it up.

I've been intrigued by a couple new Volvo models out recently, but if I do wind up buying one, I'll go somewhere downtown or on the North Side -- this place had a chance (actually a few) to show me what they are made of, and well, they did it.

After my horrible experiences with Orloff, I decided to come to Volvo Of Oak Park for all my car's needs. Just today, I went there to buy an bulb that burned out and went to the parts department and to my surprise they just gave me a the bulb at no charge. They really know how to treat a customer.

Since my horrible experience at Orloff, I have been taking my car to Oak Park. These guys never miss a beat.  They are professional, courteous, knowledgeable and fast.  It just occurred to me that I haven't written a review about Oak Park Volvo and it's about time.

Let's start with the fact that I can schedule my service appointment on-line.  It's quick and painless.  They call the day before the scheduled appointment as a reminder. I have never experienced them running behind or off schedule.  The production manager must have everything down to a science.  Periodically (I think on Saturdays), they have muffins, donuts and pastries while you wait.  There is always Caribou coffee and bottled water available.  There is free wi-fi with two computers dedicated for customer use.  Lastly, the day after my car is serviced, I receive a call with a 3 question survey.

This place does a great job and they care about their customers!

This place deserves a five star and I'll tell you why. I bought a Volvo from them in September '07 and have been in and out of their service lot several times since then, including today actually. So I've had plenty experience there to make pretty good judgments.

What car I bought isn't important here. My negotiation skills and creditworthiness, also, are immaterial here. What counts, to me, is how I'm treated as a customer and whether or not I receive the product and service for what I pay.

The salesperson, Carlo, is friendly, helpful, and honest. How do I know if he's honest? He says what he knows, and admits what he doesn't. That earns him respect.

Sales aside, what impresses me most is the after-purchase service. Whether it's a simple oil+filter change (only $35 with online coupon), or an in-depth investigation of mystery noise emanating from the front suspension, they've always provided quick and detailed solutions. The service manager or technician would afterward explain the work they've performed as well as related facts and issues. They know what they're doing.

Not to mention the free carwash and loaner car. And free coffee and internet in the waiting area.

I must add that I purchased my car with extended warranty. The work done so far would've cost thousands, and they've never once expressed hesitation in receiving my complaints or servicing my car. All at no cost to me at all (well, I actually paid for it!).

If you're looking for a Volvo service/maintenance place to trust, I would definitely check Volvo of Oak Park out.  Do not go to Howard-Orloff in the city.  Those guys are crooks.

From my experience (I've been taking my car to them for the past 2 years), they tell me everything that's not perfect about my car and tell me which ones I would probably want to fix and which ones I wouldn't.  Most of the problems they point out they say aren't a big deal so I haven't really ever spent more money than I expected to except maybe once.

Wouldn't recommend it at all.  We got nothing but jerked around by the Used Car Manager, Doug.  Our salesman, Steve, was very nice.  Not pushy or anything else you may associate with a car salesman.  Just before we were suppose to sign the papers and get our new car for Asia, we were buying a wagon for her soon to be big a$$, they ratcheted up the price on us by a few hundred dollars.  Not cool.  We left.  Got just as nice of a car for a couple of grand less in  price up north.  Suckers.

The funny thing is, I had sold my car that day and actually had the guy I sold it to drop me off at this dealer so i could sign and drive away with the wagon we were getting.  Let them know one way or the other I was buying a car that day, they could sell me the one I wanted at the price we had already agreed to or I was walking to the Greenline to get home.  Ended up on the Greenline and got a call 2 weeks later asking if I was still interested in the car that "is going to be sold in a day or two if you don't buy it."

There are better places to spend your hard earned dollars.

Well.. tough one here.  I went in for a few things, things which I have never done before and hope to never do again. They did them. I paid them a lot of money -- but was it less than I would have paid elsewhere? I don't know.  Likely.

With the "diagnostic charge," which I believe to be less here than at Orloff (which is near my house, yet I ventured to OP to avoid...), you have this considerable sunken cost (it goes towards the cost if you get the repair, you lose it if you don't get the repair), which makes it tough to shop around.  Pretty frustrating.

    People were generally nice.

The music playing was of the lowest form -- intentionally banal.  Sting and Seal, for example, say to me "we don't want to offend, so we are playing Sting and Seal. Who doesn't like Sting and Seal?"  A: ME. I am offended by your attempt to not offend.  How about some of that amazing Swedish pop?

Re: Volvo in general: my 8 year old model gets better mileage than ony current model.  Get with the program, Ford/Volvo/Chinese manufacturing concern.  My car has likely been considerably more trouble than other cars would have been, and I do not intend to buy another Volvo.

They are running a scam. They are very nice and polite to talk to, but will always try to rip you off.

So here's the scam, they advertise low oil change price to attract customers, you go in for an oil change, and after the oil change they will tell you something else is wrong with your car, but can easily be fixed. The extra cost would not be too high, maybe between $50 -$100.  This happened to me twice. When it was my first time, I didn't think much of it. Now recently they tried to pull the same trick again, and I was so angry at them. They'll tell you like your brake lights are not working and need to be replaced, but will "only" cost $95. They were working just FINE when I brought my car in, what did they do to them? You want to avoid the risk of getting a ticket, so you just pay up ($140 instead of $40 for just the oil change) But its a shame that the dealership management is fully aware of this trick and fully supports that. This second time I refused to pay for fixing the light, and that was sort of a shock to the salesperson. I was able to fix the problem myself (it was just the fuse) free of cost.
Hope someone in the government or law enforcement takes notice of their fraudulent practices.

12/9/09: I bought a used Volvo here and worked with Doug (manager) and Andre (sales person).  Having leased my previous cars this was my first experience buying a car and wonder if my expectations are to high.

After I signed all the paper work I was informed I would receive one key though I was due to receive two keys.  Bit troubling since my wife and I share the car, but not to worry they had the previous owner coming in to return the second key.  Guessing the previous owner is a repeat customer and they gave him the opportunity to find/return the second key.  Problem is my wife and I had to share a key for three weeks.  I made numerous calls and even had to visit the dealership after two weeks before they finally sent the key to me three weeks later.  If you add the time the car was on hte dealer lot they had six weeks to resolve the issue.

I feel I paid for the key when I bought the car and if I hadn't pushed them to get the second key I would have waited until 2010.  They never called me to keep me updated, I had to call them once a week for updates and after the second week I asked them to make a second key and they refused.

Very happy with the car but I don't recommend buying here.  If you do buy here make sure you walk out the door on the day of purchase with everything you are entitled to, otherwise you become a past commission with no additional benefit and expect to wait a long time.

I'll service my car at another dealer.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS DEALERSHIP IT HAS BY FAR THE WORST SERVICE! I bought a used vechile from them, and they knew from Monday it was a done deal, and when I got there on Thursday the car had a million problems. How can any dealership sell a vechile that contains a million and a half problems. They had the nerve to tell me the next day that their doing an "oil" change, and then call me to tell me the brakes are out and it will take an additional week to pick up the car. My advice is to stay away from this dealership. Rude people, and SLOW AS WELL AS HORRIBLE SERVICE!

P.S. the receptionist needs to calm down with her bubbly bimbo blonde voice! BY FAR THE MOST ANNOYING THING EVER!!!!!!

I recently purchased a pre-owned 2007 XC7, which I feel I got a great deal on. Doug was aggressive on valuing the trade knowing that I purchased the vehicle from them. This goes a long way toward inspiring confidence and signaling their desire to make a deal. Kudos.

I didn't have a lot of time to sign all the paperwork and get through finance so Dan Dwyer moved me through in record time. After the sale, there were some loose ends that needed attention and which required that I head to service. Trent, the service writer, and Anthony, the technician, were both very personable, helpful. Dan also stepped in to help out with some aftermarket products.

On the downside, my salesperson, whom I will refrain form naming, did a mediocre job of "selling" me the product, following up with calls that he promised/agreed to make regarding the loose ends, and attending to us when we visited a few days later for service assistance.

Considering that he complained of how slow business is and how his income has declined in recent years, I would have expected him to have worked harder to impress the customers he had in front of him. I do feel for fellow Americans who are suffering due to the recession; however, when I spend $20K+ on anything, I deserve a "happy face" and simple follow through, right?

Overall happy and satisfied. Left with a good, solid car at a great price. Met some kind and helpful people who seemed to really care about us.

Oh yeah, the owner Tony was there. Any store where you can meet the owner is a store that I would patron. Means that ownership cares...
