Review from Yan G.
San Francisco, CA
I know you, Yelpers. You're probably snickering right now while reading my review: "Ha ha, Big Yan G. is now reviewing beauty salons."
Laugh all you want, but I've been getting my hair cut by Vladimir himself since 1998. He's a man's man, and he's a hell of a hair stylist, too. I mean, I don't pay $25 a haircut every 5 weeks for nothing.
For what it's worth, it's a traditional Outer Richmond establishment. It's a no-frills, no-nonsense place that consistently delivers. Its small, ground level location has a certain utilitarian appeal. A tiny, narrow 'office space' houses two barber chairs, a manicure/pedicure counter and a small waiting area. Vladimir (the owner) and Svetlana perform all the hair artistry you'll ever need at a reasonable price. I can't vouch for the mani/pedi lady (hey, that rhymes), but I hear good things.
If you speak Russian, you will appreciate this place a lot more. You're much more likely to appreciate one of Vladimir's many off-color, politically incorrect jokes. They're so bad, they're good! Besides, the tiny TV is always tuned to the Russian channel broadcast over the satellite. I get my haircut on Saturday mornings, so I often find myself watching a Russian cooking show.
Both hair stylists here -- sorry, I pay $25 a pop, so I can't call them barbers -- work on their own schedule. You often end up waiting a little even if you do have an appointment. Perhaps, a customer showed up later than he/she was supposed to or the stylists took a longer than expected coffee and cigarette break. I strongly believe that tardy customers and cigarette breaks, while lame and carcinogenic, are pretty much unavoidable. I try to schedule my appointments for 10 am, so I am the first customer of the day. I am always on time, so you can't blame me for the wait.
I love not having to explain how I want my hair cut, I love easy parking in the Richmond and I love their work. I don't see myself changing barbers any time soon, and I'll keep coming back to Vladimir's if he'll have me.
Believe it or not, when I lived on the East Coast, I used to schedule my trips back to the Bay Area so I could get my haircut from Vladimir's. What can I say, I am not a fan of change. -
Review from Yuliya K.
San Francisco, CA
I came in for a manicure (had to make an appt in advance) and it very good. I think it was because the girl who did it had a lot of experience and she was attentive. The mani wasn't cheap, but it was worth the price. Definitely reccomend this place.
The only proper european salon in the whole city! -
Review from Katya B.

I got my nails done here before my wedding and although i was not a fan of paying $60 for a set of acrylic nails at first, after the third hour of none stop effort on my fingers i must say i was left very impressed. the nails looked gorgeous! she did everything by hand, no dentist like sanding machine just a lot of effort and time. also they lasted (looking good) for four weeks, i decided to get them refilled at the end of the fourth week and realized that by paying a little more at the beginning saved me time, money and pain that is usually accompanies having cheaply put on acrylics (and having to get them fixed).
I very highly recommend this place, its worth the money. -
