I had a great experience at Vizio Optic.  I went there for eyeglasses and gas permeable contact lens prescriptions.  At the time, I spent quite some time looking at glasses but didn't find anything I was in love with.  Dr. Rabkin was very patient and extremely helpful with the gas permeable lens fitting.  It's rare to find a doctor that can actually get gas permeable lenses correctly.   If I had found glasses I liked there, I would have gotten them there (I have a small face and it's impossible for me to find glasses).

In terms of the salespeople there, a couple years ago i was helped by a woman who I swear had a different pair of glasses for every day of the year.  She was quite the aficionado and was great at finding funky fun glasses.

"Not seeing new contact lens patients, and we cannot help you."

Not sure why, it took a 5 minute conversation to get to this.

I've stopped in to drool over the frames several times in the past, and because I'm a grad student with a love for high-end frames, I've done a lot of comparison shopping...

They have a great selection of high-end, and non-boring, frames for women. But their frames are ~2X the cost of purchasing on the internet. An example, http://awesomeeyeglass... has ProDesign for $150 whereas theirs are $224 -- around $75 more (ok so that's 1.5X). Their lens prices are far higher than online as well, and they charge separately for things like scratch coating etc that come with some online lenses.

That said, the staff are friendly each time I've been in to look. But I can't say they've been very helpful! The closest I came to purchasing from there, realizing I'd pay more $$ but being OK because it was an independent shop with a really smart frame selection  -- they didn't have the color of frame I was looking for and wouldn't order it for me to try on unless I paid a non-refundable downpayment. And it would take several weeks to get it ordered in! Since return-shipping of an online purchase would be cheaper and take similar time, I opted to do that rather than order the frames through Vizio.

Their insurance information is tucked away under the EyeExam section of the website. I know it's different for exams vs frames, so be sure to check with them on what will be covered for frames. They don't mind doing this, but also they didn't know about Davis Vision and didn't offer to find out coverage info for this. Again, they were friendly but not ... helpful!

If cost is not an issue, go for it. They're friendly and the selection is great. I can't speak for continued customer service (i.e. glasses care after purchasing there, but from other reviews here they seem to do a good job at that too). They're located in a good area of brookline village, readily accessible by the D-Line and by jaguars, feraris and porsches ;),

I originally wrote a review that was pretty derogatory in nature re: the pricing of Vizio's lens packages. In the end, with a discount, I ultimately love my glasses. Yes they were pricey, but they're quality.

My concern with this place wasn't with the product, however, it was with the owner's policy. After writing the first review, I received an email that said, in short, since I was so unhappy, I was welcome to take my business elsewhere, and that they would be refunding my money. This was done without my instigation, but rather as a brash response to my review. I replied with "Actually, I would prefer to pick up my glasses today, as previously scheduled. But thank you for reaching out."

Upon picking up my glasses, I was confronted by the doctor who said "You know why we emailed you, and said what we said, don't you?" in a condescending/scolding (yet calm) manner. I felt about the size of my glasses. Regardless of how much money I was spending (which, again, I emphasize was discounted via Groupon), I firmly believe each customer should be treated like royalty - especially if that's their policy.

I clammed up, nodded my head, finished fitting my frames, and left. The entire transaction was uncomfortable and unnerving. They also asked that I write a "fair" review and not "mislead potential customers." Well, I feel I have done just that, and I will leave this review posted. I feel everyone has the right to know that even if they generally have outstanding customer service, there *are* nuances that put a blemish on their name and a bad taste in a customer's mouth.

I bought a pair of glasses for my husband, because the glasses are incredibly beautiful. However I almost canceled by purchase based on how rude they were. I told them I wanted to make a surprise and they looked at me ultra condescending, and ignored me during the entire transaction.

On top of that I am 6 months pregnant and wanted to sit next to my husband, they literally laughed at me and asked me to wait standing up (and I am showing my pregnancy pretty well).

They treated my husband extremely nicely, and only asked me to pay.

This made it an EXTREMELY sad experience and even though my husband is thrilled with his glasses I remain very bitter and upset on how I was treated.

I found Vizio Optic online because I was new to the area and needed a new pair of eyeglasses. So I of course searched for "best glasses Boston" and Vizio came up. I read some reviews, which highlighted the great selection and customer service, and decided to check them out. Did I mention they won the best of boston award for 2 years in a row!!  I only recently started wearing glasses and shopping for my last pair was one of the most painful shopping experiences ever, so I was hoping they would be able to change that. Well they did!!

When I walked in I already loved the place. They had a large selection of glasses and uber cool decor. I said hello and let them know I was looking for a new pair of glasses. Dr. Rabkin was actually the one who was helping me, although I didn't realize it at first since my past experience with eye doctors was that they just rushed you in and out of their office and did not help pick out glasses, and she was extremely helpful at finding a frame that complimented my features. I have found a lot of people will sell you anything, even if it's not flattering, but she was honest and would say what she thought looked better. She was also really patient as I tend to be indecisive so I tried on a bunch of pairs. I narrowed it down to an gorgeous pair of Chanel glasses with a flower on the side, either in black/beige, or blue/maroon.

One of the coolest features of the store is that they have a photo booth so you can take pictures and see how your glasses look from the other angle, which is really helpful. So after looking at the pictures we decided for an everyday pair, the black/beige would work best for me. And that I would of course return for a colorful pair another time. I have received so many compliments on my glasses and I love them!

I recently returned and Dr. Rabkin remembered my name which I thought was amazing since I am so bad with names. I was so happy to see her because I of course wanted her help picking out another pair. I told here I was thinking I wanted something a little more delicate with some color that could give me a different look and she helped me find a fabulous pair of purple frames from ProDesign. I picked them up last week and have already received compliments on them. I told her I would definitely be back, as I had my eye on a pair of Chanel sunglasses.

Thank you Vizio for your excellent service, fabulous selection, and for giving this yelper glasses she loves!! xoxo

I went to Vizio Optic because of a Groupon (http://www.groupon.com...) they participated in, and all in all I was swept away with how great the experience was.  The salesperson who assisted me was Damirys, and I can't say enough nice things about her.  She let me waffle around the entire store, trying on dozens of frames and never made me feel ridiculous.  They also had this fun machine that, while basically just an average-quality webcam, lets you get a good idea of what the frames actually look like in comparison to each other.

Costs were a little high and they didn't have a lot of budget-priced frames, but considering their selection was unlike what I've seen in many other optical places (one-offs and Lenscrafters alike), that seems reasonable.

I had used my own eye doctor, but I understand that they also have their own on-site optometrist as well.

Buying glasses from Vizio was one of the most pleasant shopping experiences I've ever had.  It was heads and shoulders above shopping at any other optics store.

I recently had my first eye exam and learned that I needed glasses.  I had the exam done at my neighborhood store in Newton that my insurance directed me to.  They had a very small selection of glasses that didn't excite me.

As I would have to wear my glasses all the time, I knew I wanted something fashionable, unique and well made.  I visited all of the higher rated optics stores in the Boston area, but none of them matched Vizio.

One store claiming to have all the top fashions was mostly selling run of the mill, made in China junk for 3x the price you can find online.  Another store had all the top brands, but the service was so-so and I didn't feel comfortable in the store.

But shopping at Vizio is very different.  Dr. Rabkin immediately made me feel very welcome and comfortable.  For the first time I wasn't overwhelmed and confused by picking out glasses.  She has all of the top designer brands, and they are very well priced.  She helped me pick out some glasses that I simply love.  I feel great about my purchase and recommend that anyone looking for glasses visit Vizio.

An excellent store with remarkable service and a superior selection of frames. I tried on 6-8 pairs and was able to see how they looked on me on video display. A helpful tool rather than looking at a mirror. I purchased an excellent stylish frame that I will be excited to wear instead of settling on a pair of glasses that I could live with.

I could not find an optometrist that I liked until I came to Dr. Rabkin at Vizio. She was fantastic!  Despite a very full schedule, she squeezed me in on short notice. She gave me a very thorough eye exam and was both extremely personable and professional to boot! Plus, she helped me pick out a snazzy new pair of glasses (from an incredibly wide selection of frames) that I love. Yea for Vizio!

My daughter (who's 27) and I went into Vizio because we heard it had cool glasses, and she needed some.  We were treated rudely - we felt like we were being watched and being ignored at the same time - it was very strange.  No one ever asked if they could help us, or said hello, or anything.  It was clear we wanted to buy glasses....but we weren't going to get any service.  I haven't experienced this type of disdain since I've been an adult (except  perhaps in some European stores).  A simple "could I help you" would have made all the difference.  This is the first time I've written a Yelp review, but the experience was so unpleasant that I wanted to let others know.
