Vigilios "House Favorite Pizza and Garlic Knots" was listed as one of the top 100 must eats in Denver, so I gave it a shot:

Rating: 6.8

The Skinny: Toppings worked very, very well.  The sausage is sliced so thin, it crunches like bacon, and the ricotta gives it a creamy balance to the salty flavor of the cheese.  The pan fried garlic knots were crispy and also very good.  Ultimately, I really enjoyed this pizza, but thought that the crust was only slightly above average, which was unfortunate.  Also working against Virgilio's here is the close proximity to The Oven, which is just across the street and happens to put out the best pizza anywhere in Denver. Having said that, I can can't completely disagree with the multiple award wins, and the small cult following.

I've got a picture of it up on the blog if you want to see what it looks like

Went on a Friday night at 530 and already there was a 20 minute wait.  No wonder since the place is tiny (emphasis) and they only seat the same number of people to a table, i.e. 2 people to a 2 person, 4 to a 4 person table, etc.  We finally sat down and it was especially awkward being that we were almost literally rubbing elbows with the 2 people seated next to us.  They finished up and two different people sat down who were blatently obvious with their disgust in having to sit so close to us.  I overheard (was hard not to) the husband say to wife, "do you just want to leave?"  I'm sure their planned romantic dinner out was ruined by having to sit on our laps. (note: this place is not romantic in the least).  The staff was very friendly despite their tight-quarters working conditions.

On to the food, we ordered a medium olive and mushroom pizza and garlic knots.  Garlic knots were piping hot and good.  The pizza, however, was not to my taste.  The toppings were generous but I prefer my pizza more crispy than tortilla-like.  Trying to hold a slice, it was floppy and sloppy.  I've read others describe the crust as "soggy" and I would have to concur.

I will never eat-in again.  Perhaps I would order to-go if a comet crushed every other pizza joint in the area.  Overall, this place is overrated.

Is it just me, or is this place mostly hype?  For now I have to believe it's not just me.

Certainly the garlic knots are not just hype.  They were tasty and hot from the oven.  The spinach pinwheels were pretty good too. However, the pizza we had was mostly sauce with about 3 or 4 1.5 inch wide spots of cheese on it.   And it was a LARGE. I felt bad choosing a slice that looked like it had the most cheese, since I was with my wife and another couple.  These pizzas I see in the pictures look good and tasty.  But I guess looks can be deceiving.

Staff was friendly and quick to serve.  Virgillio himself came and asked how we were doing.  Our Moretti's were served with frosty glasses.  All nice touches.

I know I'll be back, because with all of the hype I've read on Yelp I have to believe that I missed something.  I want to try some pasta and meatballs, and maybe we'll try some other pizzas, and definitely get some garlic knots.

But for now, Virgillios only rates 3 stars.

I think this place is really overrated at this point.  I liked them a lot when they first opened, but it seems like they've really slipped both in quality and approach.  Last time I was there, I noticed their lunch portions were much smaller than they had been some months earlier.  But the turning point for me was also that they exploited their mailing list to try and drum up support to force themselves into an event held by Bel-Mar, the much higher rent district retail district a few blocks away.  Apparently there was even a lawsuit from the owner of Virgillio's trying to force the Bel-Mar people to allow Virgillio's into their event.  I got all of this from a big group-send email from Virgillio's.  It was such a turn-off, both in the way they took swipes at their (Bel-Mar) competitors, and that they would assume all their customers were interested in their political saga.  Their food isn't that remarkable to get myself on some kind of terrorist mission to help them get into a privately-held event where they're clearly not welcome.  Yikes.  No thanks.

I won't be eating there again.

I arrive expecting one of the best pizza experiences of my life. Certainly one would expect to when a pizza restaurant is voted as "Best Denver Pizza" in Citysearch, right?

I am quickly greeted by a very friendly staff.

I order the "Combinata," which includes sausage, pepperoni, mushroom, red onion, green pepper, and black olives. I also decide on their buffalo chicken wings.

A couple minutes later, I get my pizza. Despite the somewhat soggy crust, I was satisfied with my pizza. The Buffalo Chicken Wings were satisfying, as well (typical buffalo wings).

Certainly, Virgilio's pizza was good; beating Dominos, Papa Johns, and Pizza Hut... hands down. However, I would not consider myself a fan of their pizza. I suppose that is what happens when you come in with such high expectations.

Appetizers range from about $4 to $9. Entrées range from about $9 to $25 -- for a personal and family sized pizza, respectively.

The place is pretty small, and is jam-packed full of Italian-themed pictures, photos, ornaments and knick knacks. I liked that you can see the guys making the food, and loading it into the brick-lined pizza oven. We were seated by Virgilio who was polite enough but not really welcoming nor especially friendly. The only table available was one of those super high table/chair combos, which I'm not a huge fan of - I spent the entire meal afraid that I was baring my crack to half the restaurant...

We started with a half order of garlic knots ($2.99). They were fantastically soft, fluffy and chewy but I would have liked more salty garlicky flavor. The accompanying marinara dip was rich and tomato-y, though lacking the herby fragrance that, personally, I love. For pizza we decided to "build our own" and opted for a large thin crust with pepperoni and bacon ($15.49). The crust was crispy yet chewy and yeasty, and topped with the perfect amount of meat, cheese and sauce. I wish the bacon had been a little chunkier but it really wasn't a big deal.

Our server was efficient but, again, not very friendly. The pizza was 5 stars imo but all in all, I'll give VPN 4.5 stars.

OK so I had a "get together" with some friends and decided to throw a wine pairing diner for them. I didn't want to cook but didn't want to drink some wines by themselves. That' when we decided to order from Virgilio's.This is the only place I go to get my pizza, calzone, caprese salad...... anything Italian!! I'm from the east coast and so glad when I found Virgilio's!! Had a great diner on Saturday  night!! We ordered; Garlic knots, Verde salad and the 14 inch Combo Pizza, and Tiramisu!! I paired champ for 1st coarse and a cab/temp blend red wine for the 2nd coarse & dessert was wonderful!!! my friends loved everything!!! Thanks  again Vigil!!

Yes, I am east-coast style and rather fastidious when it comes to pizza. Although I would not consider Virgilio's NY style, I would consider it one hell of a pie.

I go there simply for the spinach pinwheels and Margherita pie. The dough is delicate and the tomato sauce is beautiful and well-balanced. I love the fresh basil on the pizza, and although it does not fold like a good NY it it still delightful!

I've had this pizza about 6 times.  I think it's mediocre most of the time with the occasional great pizza.  The wait staff is attentive but the restaurant is dirty and the floors are sticky which is fine in a bar but not a restaurant.

This isn't the worst pizza I've had in Denver, but it certainly is not the best. We ordered the 4 formaggi and the pinwheels, and both were decent, but nothing great. Nothing stood out for me taste-wise, not the cheeses, not the crust, or any other ingredient, they were all just so so.  The dough was thicker than any Napoletana crust I have ever had, and not crisp by any means. The pinwheels are a little better taste wise, but so oily I couldn't stand to eat much. If you live in the area, perhaps this is your best option, but beyond that, don't waste your gas or time. Another reviewer mentioned 3 other pizzerias, Marco's (in my opinion, the best pizza in Denver), Proto's, and Enzo's. All much better choices than Virgilio's.

Service wise, I have no complaints. We were taken care of promptly, with a smile, and not neglected in any way. The decor was normal for a strip mall pizzeria, and relatively clean.

If 2.5 stars were an option for me to give, that's what I'd give. But, since the people were nice, I rounded up.  They weren't nice enough for me to want their pizza again, though.

Finally succumbed to Virgilio's as we'd heard it was quite good.  It's been steadily climbing the pizza ranks of Yelp and even though it's out of the way downtown I had high hopes given all these reviews.

It's just hype.  The pizza really isn't that special.  Maybe for Lakewood, but not for Denver.

Had a pinwheel - yes they were good but not [insert superfluous adjective here] as some reviews seem to say.

Had a margherita - first impression: the bottom was very oily and the crust was thicker than I'd expected - more like a New York than a traditional Napoletana.  (Yes they do call it both Napoletana and New York.  Is that an oxymoron of sorts?)  The crust was a little too hard/crunchy - not chewy enough like when fired real quick at a high temp.  And the sauce: too much of it and a bit acidic for my liking.

Had an "il greco" - if it's a greek then shouldn't it really be kalamata olives not ordinary black olives?

And the service?  Pretty atrocious.  A bunch of young girls who waver between uninterested and feigning interest.

The pizza is good - I'll give it that.  Compared to average Denver pizza.  But it wasn't GREAT.  I won't be heading there from downtown any time soon.  Would much rather go to Enzo's, Proto's, or Marco's, not sure in which order.

Maybe if you live in Lakewood it's good and convenient, but not good enough to warrant a drive from the east.

We just encountered Virgilio's for the first time based on some reviews I have read, we wanted to try it out.  I do agree that the food is excellent.  The pizza crust was perfect and they don't skimp on the toppings.

We dined in which could be difficult at certain times of the day or week since the seating is minimal.  I kept thinking to myself that this is a week day, early evening and the traffic through there was very heavy.  There was alot of to go orders which is how I will probably be returning. Although the atmosphere was nice, I just like my ALBOW room while I'm eating.  Not that I'm all Albows and eat like the Tasmanian Devil, but I do like some separation between tables.

Since the business is located in the same parking lot as a King Soopers the parking lot is quite busy also.

I did enjoy the pinwheels and again the Pizza was awesome.  Definitely worth returning for.  Next time I will be trying thier Gelato cake and Garlic knots.

Finally I want to say the staff was very pleasant and the service was top notch.

Needed a last minute place to eat Sunday PM around BelMar -- the choices?
Chains, Chains, and more Chains---

But then, a Yelp Lighbulb appeared -- Virgillio's, who after reading the reviews was a big time " Let's Go !!! "  from the BF

Just down the block from BelMar, in the same strip mall as King Stooper, is a tiny corner pizza joint with some of the best pie West of the Missip. -- OK, I may be exaggerating, but Virgillio's did cut it with both this NY/NJ -ite with ragu in the blood, and the Native Denver-ite.

What I liked about this joint is that you can 1/2 and 1/2 the pie without problem.  I like white, he likes red sauce, and once we got through the language barrier of a teenage server, ( she spoke Clue-less ) we were fine.
We asked for the following pie:

1.  Crispy Thin Crust
2. 1/2 Formage ( all cheese), extra basil and garlic, with red sauce on side
3. 1/2 Red with pepperoni

Our server looked at us with deer in highlights stare, and stated she didn't know how to order it, yet refused our offer to write it down, or simply order directly.
We ended up with a close approximation of our pie, just sans side sauce and extra toppings, but the pie itself was terrific as it.

The only other demerit agains comes from our High School server, who when asked for a taste of their $10 a glass Sangiovese, replied with hands on hips, " I'll have to ask", followed by a big sigh, as if we were asking for something so out of the ordinary, and over the top.

Remember when servers worked for their tips and not just expected them?  Oh Well, we just giggled, and ate our yummy pie.

So don't let the poor service stop you -- the pie is that good

I could subside on Virgilio's garlic knots and the margarita pizza is pretty good, too. My husband and I used to go there every week, but got tired of the owner's rudeness. On our last visit he accidentally gave up our table we'd been waiting 30 minutes for to another party. (We had my newborn son with us and were trying to get a meal in before baby feeding time.) Rather than apologizing he told us we should have called ahead. He didn't offer drinks or anything to remedy the mistake. We ended up waiting an additional 20 minutes to get take out and haven't been back since.

The food is the reason to go to Virgilio's.  The ingredients are fresh, high-quality, and delicious.  Think fresh mozzarella, sprinkles of basil, yummy crusts, garlic, tomatoes, wine, olive oil, sea salt ... mmmmm.  We've enjoyed pizza and various appetizers over several visits.

The atmosphere is not the reason to go.  The space is very small and sometimes you feel like you're dining at the same table as the people sitting next to you, because you're that close.  There's a lot of demand, however, so I suppose the choices were either to accommodate more customers in tight quarters, or create longer lines.

The bowl of fresh mozzarella with basil, sea salt and olive oil is wonderful.  In fact it's the best thing about the place.  The owner is clearly passionate about this creation, because he has provided us with hands-on "instructions" on several occasions on how to eat it (pull the cheese from the bottom to get the olive oil to coat everything -- don't play with it too much -- don't pull small pieces off or it will get cold, etc).  This demo was charming and welcome the first time ... eventually becoming invasive and off-putting by the third.  Apparently I am still doing it wrong after many tries, but I don't really care.  It tastes wonderful -- can I just eat it please?

He gets points for caring though.  It shows in the quality and flavors of the food.  We hope that Virgilio's moves to a larger space soon so that we can all have some more elbow room.

Today  while I was in Lakewood on business, I decided to stop in for lunch at Virgilio's.  Had been here for dinner in May and enjoyed it greatly.

Lunch is nice, too.  They have lunch deals that come with salads and drinks.  I had the Spinach Pinwheels, a salad, and a drink.  This came to a bit over 8 bucks.  At lunch you order at the counter and they give you a number then bring your food to you when it's ready.  Drinks are self service at lunch.  All of this is only at lunch, there's full service and a fuller menu at dinner time.

I liked the lunch.  They gave me an extra pinwheel which was very cool indeed.  People at neighboring tables were friendly, as was the staff.

I really like this place.

We love Virgilio's and have always had great food and service.

Faves include the garlic knots, the fresh mozz appetizer and the lasagna.  I love trying a different kind of pizza each time I go, the personal size is great!

It's gotten really popular, so it can be hard to find a seat, but most recently we ordered online and took our grub to go-the online ordering was great!

Virgilio is always there, working hard and greeting all of the cutomers.  I appreciate that he recongnizes us as frequent diners.

I am just plain angry with Virgilios.  I was a very loyal customer and I still love there pizza and knots.  However, the service has left me fuming.  We have has several encounters with Virgilio himself, in which he was not the nicest person, but last time I went he outdid himself.  We waited for 45 min (not uncommon but worth it for the food) just to watch them give out table to another party.  When Virgilio realized his mistake, he blamed the other party (for not telling him that they needed room for a baby) then told us that we need to make sure we call ahead when we had a large party.  He never said he was sorry and his only offer was for us to wait another 30 min.  We decided to get take out.  Little did we know that we would have to wait another 40 min for it.  VIrgilio never offered us a drink while we waited, charged us full price for everything (even though we had wasted our entire Sat night) and avoided eye contact the entire rest of the time we were there.

This was my last straw.  We will not be going back, even though the food is so good.  He knows us, we were regulars, but we still weren't worth being nice too.  It is too bad.

Virgilio's and Anthony's (DU locale) are my two favorite places to grab a thin sliced pie in Denver.  I'm originally from Chicago and prefer a deep dish, but Virgilio's knocks it out of the park in the thin crust competition.

I like Anthony's for the classic, greasy, well made pie handled with care and precision.  Virgilio's is a lot like that, but with much better ingredients (and a lot less grease).

The crust is near perfect every time.  It passes all the tests... strong enough to not flop all over the place, crisp enough to have a touch of crunch and it tastes amazing.

The garlic knots are great.  Simple, fresh ingredients, cooked to perfection every time.  Served with homemade marinara.  Horrible for my acid reflux, amazing for my taste buds.  If you leave Virgilio's without having a knot, you've done yourself a disservice.

The white pizza is good, the pesto pizza is excellent.  The Italian Sausage is top notch... okay, now I'm hungry.

There are a couple of minor things keeping this from a 5 star review.  Virgilio himself is a great guy.  Good to talk to, concerned with your food and your experience.  That dedication doesn't always travel down the lines to the people who have waited on my wife and I.  A lot of younger servers with little to no experience.  They aren't bad, they just aren't good... yet.

And the hours... I know its a smaller operation, but I'm surprised at how early they close.

All in all, make the trip to Lakewood someday for a great pizza at Virgilio's.

Amazing pizza! I ordered online, though it is a ways from my house, after seeing the recommendations on here. The garlic knots were pretty good, they seemed to be inconsistently garlicky though. The pizza was impeccable; perfect crust, delicious red sauce, and the sausage was maybe the best I've had in Denver (closely rivaled Carl's; I think the pizza was better here though).

I guess they lost a star for the service. They said my pizza would be ready in a half hour. I went down there, and had to wait for close to another half hour for my pizza to be ready.  The girl ringing me up wasn't especially friendly. And there was a group of 3 older people waiting for a table, they were there before me and still waiting when I left, while an empty booth sat there with a "parties of 4 or more" sign on it.  hmm....

Virgilios is the best pizza in Lakewood, hands down.  One of my favorite aspects of this restaurant is the variety of toppings and types of pizza, and it's all amazing.  Their classic red sauce is slightly sweet and flavorful, the white pizza is garlicky and delicious, and the pesto satisfies a craving for something different but still tasty.

The topping choices are far more than your usual Pizza Hut staples (sausage, mushrooms, pepperoni).  Virgilios makes their own meatballs, which is my favorite topping choice.    Other specialty toppings include roasted red peppers, capers, ricotta, and sun dried tomatoes.

Having trouble deciding?  Order the Mezzo, Mezzo:  1/2 red sauce & 1/2 white or 1/2 pesto.  Also, I believe it is a sin to go to Virgilios and NOT order the garlic knots: hot, buttery-garlic goodness.  Don't anger the gods....order a basket.

I don't like pizza. There, I said it. I know that in some circles this makes me a dirty communist or-- at the very least-- insane in the membrane, but I don't care. Pizza, generally speaking, is gross.

That said, I LOVE Virgilios.

I don't like red sauce (a huge part of the reason why I've always steered pretty clear of your average pizza parlor). At Virgilios, this isn't a problem. Their pizza biancas are SO DAMN GOOD. Their pesto pizzas, even better. Try a personal pizza with pesto, ricotta, and roma tomatoes... oh wow. And anyplace that offers fresh basil as a topping is okay in my book.

What really sets them apart though, is their crust. IT IS PERFECTION. Virgilio, you've ruined me for any other pizza joint, ever. I heart you long time.

Our search in Denver for great pizza took many years.  I come from the land of mom and pop pizza places that are amazing.  When we happened onto Virgilios, we fell in love.  First, I could BATHE in the red sauce.  Seriously.  It's amazing.  Everything is great -- love the pizza, love the pasta, LOVE the meatballs.  You simply CANNOT go wrong here.

We drive from Commerce City for Virgilio's, and we always take sauce home with us.  Worth the drive, worth the wait if you have to.  Simply WORTH it!

Love this place, but two minor complaints: Some of the red pizza doesn't have enough sauce on it, especially if you order your own combo instead of one of the named pizzas (which are excellent, by the way -- try the Dean Martin or the Sopranos, just to name two). We have asked for extra sauce or sauce on the side to combat this problem and are now satisifed.

Second, a couple of times we have gotten garlic knots that are not garlicky enough. I don't know why this happens, but it is a huge disappointment. They usually are really, really garlicky and fantastic.

But overall, Virgilio's ROCKS!!! Ooooo, and those spinach pinwheels...!

Anything served at this restaurant is the best food I have ever put in my mouth!  Virgilio's has ruined me in the sense that no pizza but Virgilios pizza is worth eating!  My boyfriend and I come here once a week as a treat.  I've tried many items on the menu and I recommend everything I've tried.  Any pizza you order is truly fantastic.  The spinach pinwheels are to die for.....and the calzone which is one of my boyfriends new favorites is specially made on the spot with any ingredients you want.

Virgilio is there every time we visit and he is involved with everything that is going on in the restaurant.  He seems to personally check on everyone to make sure everything is fantastic .  The restaurant is well decorated and the space is small but inviting and comfortable.   If I'm a connoisseur of anything, its pizza.  Anyone who appreciates a fantastic pizza needs to check this place out!  You won't be disappointed :)

I used to live in west denver and I have been to Virgilio's a few times.  It has been at least two years since my last visit.  I remember liking, but not loving it.  Based on all of the positive reviews, I plan to check it out again since I don't remember it being 5 star quality.

The location could be better, but the atmoshpere is nice.  I am a car nut so I loved the decorations in the Men's room.  Check em out.

We live in Belmar so when Virgilio took over the old pizza joint and started producing his masterful pies, I can confidently say, we'll be customers of his for as long as he's there.  This is our spot for pizza, and not just because it's within walking distance - if that were the case, we'd be eating at The Oven much more often than we do vs. trekking across Wadsworth to come to Virgilio's.

We always get the same thing - sausage pizza.  And yes, it's that good.  Virgilio's shaves the sausage on the the pizza which makes all the difference in the world in terms of flavor and texture - you'll never enjoy sausage chunks on your pizza again.  Plus the sausage is quite flavorful and not too greasy.  And of course the garlic knots - everything that's been written about them is true, they are wonderful.  We also enjoy the house salad (not the side salad).  It's just a basic salad, no frills but the ingredients are always super fresh and crisp and the homemade italian dressing is delicious.

It even transports well as one of our favorite things to do in the summer is order to go and take it to concerts/picnics and everyone always enjoys the meal.  Parisi's is another favorite for coal oven baked crusts - thinner crust than Virgilio's but also a nice pie.

Virgilio's pizza is great and definitely well worth the visit.

Thanks Yelp(ers) for turning me onto this place.  Holy pizza! Good service, great menu and amazing pizza.  I think Famous Ray's pizza is famous for being second to Virgilio's.
I am really picky about cheese on pizza so seeing they use whole milk mozzarella I knew this place was going to rock.
I can totally see this place being my go to pizza joint after a long day of skiing.  There is nothing better to replace calories like melted mozzarella...

After hearing so much about this fabulous Italian eatery in Belmar, I knew I had to try it. And I am so glad I did!!! I give it 5 stars all the way!!!

Virgilio himself seated us and told us about three of the house favorites: spinach pinwheels, the margherita pizza, and the famous garlic knots. After trying the spinach pinwheels that were to die for, I was convinced that it could not get any better. But I was wrong. The pizza was WOW!!! It had this light crispy crust that somehow melted in my mouth. With cheese that had actual flavor and it was beautifully topped with amazing fresh basil. All these flavors stood out individually yet mingled together deliciously. It is a must try!  And now we can't forget about the garlic knots. They were served steaming hot with the best marinara I have ever had. The knots are even made with fresh garlic. WOW!!  All in all Virgilio's was AWESOME!!! In fact, I am heading there now.

For the best New York-style pizza in and around Denver, there's none better than the fabulous pies at this little Lakewood pizzeria, across the street from Belmar. The crisp crusts are perfect, the red sauce, herb-laden and sweet, and the toppings, of which there are many, are top-notch. The pizzas alone are worth the price of admission, but the unbelievably addictive garlic knots and spinach pinwheels both make me wax rhapsodic, especially when they arrive on your plate stright from the oven. Under no circumstances should you leave without a to-go-box of both.

It's a cute place place with seater counting (for the best views), booths, a smattering of tables, a tiny, but well-chosen wine list, and a terrific happy hour with both drink and food specials.

If you'd rather cook your pie at home, they also prepare take-and-bake pizzas.

Ordered online from them three 18' pizzas. 30 sec after i placed my order, they called to confirm, which was great at least you know it is not lost somewhere in the mega hyperspace.
We arrived on time to get them and they were ready and warm.
We fed 12 people and either they were starving or the pizzas were excellent because nothing was left. I really like the Veggie one.

I really wasn't impressed and didn't think that it was great. Sure, it was decent, but there are plenty of pizza places that are just like this one.

First off, I guess I was a bit disappointed that I couldn't half and half a personal pizza. And for $8-9 for a personal pizza, I wasn't really getting a good deal. It seemed pretty small, with a lack of the specialty toppings. It tasted alright, but nothing to write home about.

The cannoli was subpar (guess that bakeries in Boston and other parts of the country have made me a snob). I think the best part of the meal were their garlic bread twists.

Other than that, when I'm in this area again for business, I might try it again and I might pass.

Now that I've been around the bloc... around a few blocks, I have to say that so far in Colorado Virgilio's and Marco's are the best pizzas I've found. Virgilio's is a different pizza then the other and is more of what I'm used to so my bias I'm sure will show. It is a medium thin crust with a good bite to it and just the right amount of air. The pies are cooked well but in a standard pizza oven so they lose a little of the crispness that a high temp wood or coal oven can give. The toppings are good and done right and his sauces are tasty. My only gripe isn't about the food, it's about the size of the dining area and the sometimes lackluster service. Be prepared to stand outside to wait for a seat or to even order a to-go pie if you decide not to wait for a table. Hopefully if you do dine in,you'll hit an "on" night for the server. This is my kind of joint, unfortunately it's everyone else's too it seems. Worth the wait? You decide. I like the man and his pies so I usually do wait.

I don't get what all the fuss is about.  I usually get my pizza fix at Johnny's and fulfill my other Italian cravings at Jordanos.  I gave Virgilio's pizza a try based on all the hype.  I thought is was OK, but the pizza had too much cheese, the place was crowded and cramped, and it cost more than Johnny's.  Maybe I am just a creature of habit.  I'll probably give it another shot one day and will update my review if I have a different experience.

virgilios pizza makes up for what its lacking in other areas. im not surprised after trying their melt in your mouth pizza that it was voted best of denver.

 when you arrive at the pizzeria you might be seated by virgilio himself.  other than this place having a family run vibe it doesnt feel like much of a real restaurant. its more like a take out place with limited seating. if your dining as couple youll find that most of the booths are reserved for "family" priority seating. theres not much ambiance other than the fact that dean martin is wafting amidst the italian aromas in the air.  But what more can you really expect from a place thats located in a strip mall & has football playing on the flat screen?
  Id suggest sitting at the bar area if you want to avoid being smooshed by station wagoners. at the bar you can watch them hand toss the dough & get a chance to peruse their assortment of wines. id order the steamy garlic knots if your a 1st timer & check out the mozzarella they make themselves. the pizza truly is some of denvers best with its perfected thin crispy crust & mouth watering ingredients. ill def come back here for the taste experience alone.

virgilios +
* offers rootbeer
* soy cheese option
* super fresh pizza
* perfect crust

virgilios -
* cannoli was lacking
* seating issues
* servers made me feel rushed
* lack of ambiance

This is some of the best pizza I've had in my life, not just in Denver.  It also helps that Virgilio is one of the nicest people you'll ever meet in your life.  The secret to the pizza, so says Virgilio is the sauce.  There is something for everyone here though, as I hear they also have fantastic pasta I'll have to go back for pasta.  But as of right now I crave their pizza on a daily basis, and they have ruined me for other pies.

OK pizza... ordered a personal 8" margherita that came out actually about 6" (yes, we measured.  :-)  It was good but not great...  Whole tomatoes do not belong on margherita.  I think this is the way they do it in Colorado though as I have never seen it elsewhere and I have heard people argue the point here.   Also too much garlic salt on *everything*

The fresh mozzarella appetizer was good but the cheese was a little tough like the curd may have been overheated and it was a bit too soupy.

Service was poor.. they had 4 waitresses for only about 8-10 tables and we were still left waiting too long throughout the entire process.  I will most likely not go back to this place...  I'm still looking for good pizza in Denver... :-/
