I really really like this place!  You have to walk in a bit before you find the sit down area.  They have such great food and appetizers.  We got a plate of hummus and a few different spreads and it was so large that it was pretty much dinner.  We also asked the guy what each type of wine was like and he offered us tastings before we purchased the whole bottle.  Also, bottles are really affordable here.  Great gem in NYC.

So, I was looking for a place to grab a quick lunch before leaving for Boston. I stopped in here and saw they had a nice selection of cheeses, baguettes and beer. Great, I think, I can grab a quick lunch. I purchased a bauguette, a small hunk of cheese from their pre-sliced selections and a beer. After seeing that there was some seating available near the window at the front of the store, I asked the cashier if they would mind if I just ate there. He told me me I could drink the beer and eat the baguette, but not eat the cheese. Huh? Say whaaaat? After I looked at him like he had five heads, and saying, we'll, um, in that case, I will just take all this to go and find a spot to sit somewhere else, he changed his mind and told me, yes, I could sit in the back, but he would take the cheese and prepare it for me. Um. Okay. So, he takes my cheese and puts it on a plate, drizzles it with honey and adds walnuts. I am allergic to walnuts, so I really did not appreciate this. However, I just brushed them aside and was okay. However, I would have really appreciated if he told me what he was doing to my cheese. He also brought a glass for my beer and poured it, but managed to spill 1/3 of it on the table. Not appreciated. I would have much rather if they had just given me a plastic knife and let me sit and eat my cheese out of the plastic wrap and drink my beer out of the bottle. I understand I guess they were trying to be nice and classy, but, if that's the case, do it right and do not spill the beer!

I will definitely return here because everything I ate was delicious and the prices were reasonable. However, I'm getting everything to go next time.

This place doesn't look like restaurant. Actually many people stopped by the restaurant to purchase and there is usually few people. I don't like crowded and noisy place, I like this place. Meat plate and cheese fondue is great. I can enjoy these with Belgian beers. I hope serve speed of this restaurant get much faster. I'm not strong drinker, while I was drinking Belgian beer to wait food, I got drunk.

It's a little confusing on Yelp, but this is supposed to be a review for the cheese shop, not the wine & spirits store, next door (same owners, same establishment).  Yelp classifies it as a bar, which it definitely is not.

I've passed this place often for YEARS & have popped in on occasion to buy a few bottles of beer (they have a nice craft beer selection where you can mix & match six packs).  I never really considered it as a place to eat, even though I noticed the sandwich board out front, and a few tables crammed in the back.

My boyfriend & I decided to try it the other night, after pacing 9th Ave looking for some place new to eat at.  Again, I knew they at least served sandwiches & paninis.  Well, in addition to that, they also serve cheese & meat plates... which makes perfect sense... as well as fondue.  You can order wine or beer (any of the beers in the refrigerated cases, as well as a few they happen to have on draft).

It's such a charming, cool little hidden gem.  You'll feel a bit crammed in the back, but it's such a cute place, you'll quickly get over it.  So let's consider it to be "intimate" instead.

The prices are fair & it's fun to pick out a selection of meats & cheeses.   We had such a hard time that we ended up coming back for dinner a couple of nights later.  I can't say that one cheese was better than another.  We liked everything we tried.  I will say that the serrano ham was awesome.  (Though it seemed saltier the first night we had it.)   I had an asparagus, gruyere & apple panini one night too, which was great, while my boyfriend tried one with manchengo cheese & that serrano ham we fell in love with.

The staff was super friendly & we noticed a few regulars the nights we were there.  It's definitely the kind of place that makes you feel welcomed & gives you service with a personal touch.

I was almost hesitant to write a review for this place since I kind of like that it's a best-kept-secret kind of place.  But there were a couple of tables of tourists there the last time I was there, so I feel like, the word must be out!

I can say so much about the sandwiches (great selections of meats and cheeses, abundantly filled, superb spreads and oils used, yadda yadda yadda). I'll just comment that they make some of the best sandwiches in the Hell's Kitchen area.

Oh, and the fact that they have a Hunter S. Thompson beer is inspired.

Don't be fooled by the little "market" in front.  If you go to the back of the store you will find a small area that holds about 9 little tables.

If you're looking for a cute laid back environment with some good wine and DELICIOUS cheeses and tapas .. vintner is the place to go.

Instead of getting sandwiches or a salad.. we decided to try a bunch of cheeses and meats w/ some of the tapas.

We went with the 3 choice tapas ($10).  We went with the hummus, olive tapenade and the figs.  Everything was SO FRESH and DELICIOUS.  It went PERFECTLY with our Montepulciano red wine.  The portions were so generous and it filled us up quickly.

We then decided upon 3 cheese and 3 meats.  There were alot of choices for the cheeses from Spain, France, Italy and the states.. we got a mixture of everything.. but the best was the Port Salut from France.  Tasted like BUTTER melting in your mouth.  For the meats we ordered the prosciutto, chorizo and of course the serrano ham.  Very fresh made to order...

We were nervous at first that it wouldnt be enough food but we left with alot of leftovers and very very happy and full... =)  love this place

What sets this cheese and beer store apart from the other gourmet shops, delis, and grocery stores in the neighborhood is that it is co-owned with the Ninth Avenue Vintners next door. Once you have a delivery account at Ninth you can request to add some of the ample selection of imported cheeses, beer, bread, nuts etc. from this shop to your delivery of wine and liquor. You can literally get an entire party's worth of shopping and schlepping done in one quick phone call. Magic!

They also have a few tables in the back. I tried having a goat cheese salad, gigante beans, and an organic lager there but the pop rock music was too loud and football was playing on their TV so I ended up having the food (which turned out to be quite good) wrapped up in a doggy bag.

Ok, Vintner Wine Market may be the "official" name but I just call it the Beer and Cheese place.  It's a more appropriate name due to the large sign out front with those two words on it.

This place is nothing short of incredible.  I haven't yet had one thing there that I don't love.  They have a fantastic bottled beer selection.  They have Duvel in single-serving bottles.  They have that apricot wheat beer that I had that one time and loved.  They have hundreds of others I haven't tried yet.

The salads are the best salads I've ever had.  Everything is super fresh and made to order.  If a salad includes cheese, you can bet it's some of the best around.  And they are HUGE, for a price that's quite reasonable.

I've only had one sandwich, the Spanish Panini.  It will blow your mind.

I'm not really a cheese connoisseur, but the few cheese samples I've tried have been great too.

If the wine half of the store is anywhere near as good as this, I might start drinking wine.

We went to buy wine from the store next door, but found that the wine store shared a space (although, two separate entrances) with a sandwich, cheese and charcuterie market.

This is a great lunch or snack spot.  We had a sandwich, soup and bought some bread and cheese that the staff asked if we wanted to eat in the store.  When we told them yes, they put out a very nice display, adding some sliced apple with a drizzle of honey and made our little snack into a gourmet feast.  I would definitely order platters from them (they do delivery) in the future as the prices are quite reasonable and they seem to take care their work seriously!  The bread was also so delicious - it came from Sullivan Street Bakery - and was fresh!

If a friend hadn't recommended this place, we never would have given it a second glance.  Just a tiny little shop with a few small tables in the back.  We ordered the three appetizer plate with pesto, hummus, and brandied figs.  The plate also comes with soft pita triangles on the side for dipping.  Everything was really yummy!  The pesto was nice and garlicy, the hummus was smooth and creamy, and the figs were sweet and chewy.  It all went really well together and after a few bites of deliciousness I had high expectations for what we had coming up next.  Fondue...mmmmm!

We went with the cheddar ale fondue and were not disappointed.  I'm no fondue expert, but I have had it several times with several different cheeses...and let me just throw it out there, this is the BEST fondue I have ever had!  They bring it out along with a huge plate of fresh sliced baguette, green apple slices, and big chunks of salami.  It is making my mouth water now just thinking about it.  The fondue was absolutely perfect!  Just pure cheesy goodness with so much ooey gooey flavor and a perfect background flavor from the ale.  The bread was my favorite dipper, but they were all amazing!  Honestly, I have been craving this ever since I had it.  Ooooh, and nice bonus is when the cheese is almost gone and it will start to cook on the bottom  and sides of the pot, so then you just pull off this nice chewy crispy bit of cheese.  OMG - heaven!!!

Another highlight is the awesome selection of drinks.  They have so many different kinds of beers from all over, most of which I've never even heard of.  I was very impressed with this place.  If I lived in NY I would probably eat here at least once a week.  Sooo soo good!

Amazing.  I'm not a big fan of cheese but I now have a new found respect thanks to Vinter.

Vinter has two storefronts.  One is specifically for wine and the other sells meat, nuts, cheeses and beers.  Somewhat hidden behind the cheese counter are four small tables and a couple of seats at a bar like table against the perimeter of the wall where you can order off their menu.  I suggest heading to Vinter before 6:00 because this place can get crowded quickly and they can comfortably seat about 12 people.

My friend and I started with the caprese salad-tomato, mozzarella and basil with a hint of olive oil.  We were also given a side of bread.  So delicious!  The mozzarella was so smooth and light and portions were bigger than expected!  We were pretty full from that.  The waiter recommended beer which my friend ordered and I ordered a glass of prosecco.  We also ordered the cheddar and ale fondue.  The waiter's timing was excellent and right when we finished the caprese he brought over the fondue.  Behind the counter you can see the waiter make the fondue in a small pot.  Pretty fantastic since there are only two people working there.  Fondue came with slices of apples, salami and bread.  I highly recommend splitting it if you have a party of at least 3 because there's so much food.  It's not extremely expensive but not cheap either.

They also have delicious painis, salads and cheese plates.

They have fresh nuts and dried fruit which are sold by the pound.  They are pretty cheap and I happily walked out with a good portion of walnuts for three bucks.

The Prosciutto di Parma Sandwich was awesome. Classic Swiss fondue not so much. This one had wayyyy too much wine in it. It had so much wine that it left Boyfriend and I tipsy. First time ever that I did not lick the cheese clean from the pot. Shame. But great sandwiches and definitely great selection of beer.

Wonderful.  If I lived in NYC, I'd be a regular.  As is, I still might be depending upon how often I wind up traveling there.

I took about 12 work colleagues out, intending to get them drunk and fed.  We all had more charcuterie and cheese than we could handle - and that was a lot, because everyone commented on the high quality meats and cheeses - and our fill of extremely high quality beers and the bill was only around $300.  Many of these folks were Belgian, and were ecstatic to find beers they didn't think were even available outside of Belgium in this place.

The servers were SO friendly and attentive.

Places like this are extremely rare.  I can't wait to come back.

Vinters consists of 2 adjacent storefronts--one sells wine, the other cheese and beer. I'm not big on fermented grape juice so will focus on the cheese store (mold optional on some products) which just happens to serve  sandwiches. Really, really top notch sandwiches and paninis--artisan bread, serano ham and manchego, smoked turkey and brie, roasted peppers, sundried tomato-- I want one as I write this. Serious 5 star sandwiches.
Not the quickest service but who minds waiting when you can graze cheese sample (3pm and later). If you don't have 10 minutes,  walk down the street for Lennys a sandwich in the 3-4 star range.

Stumbled upon this place today as we were looking for a little snack before heading to theater.  Saw the two tables in front and when we walked in found a slew of tables in the back.  What a nice hidden gem!

GREAT and LARGE beer and cheese selection.  There were four of us so we got 3 cheeses and 3 "tapas."  Good selections and definitely moderate prices for nice sized portions.

Unfortunately the wine I was interested in trying was cold.

Otherwise GREAT place to shop, have a snack and try new things!

Tiny market cafe that is easy to miss, but definitely worth finding and experiencing it.
What can I say?  they have everything I love; wine, cheeses, charcuterie,  250+ hard to find beer selection, great sandwiches, salads, paninis and some others.   Definitely a must in the neighborhood.

Some friendly Latinos behind the counters making up for nice service.  also quite knowledgeable.

Like I mentioned the place is tiny; and it's easy to miss, but inside they have some small rounded tables for those who would like to try their delicacies.

    worth to visit/try!!!

So this is the story of what a fool am I. I have walked past this place a million times and I've said I need to check it out. About 10 months later I finally walk in.

I was invited to a cocktail party on Saturday night and decided it would be a great idea to bring some cheese and wine. Aha! i thought of Vintner and quickly headed over there. Looking for a chilled pinot i found my favorite wine from Room Service. PrimaTerra, the wine w/ the fish sitting on the beach. I was surprised to learn that the wine was only $9 so i picked up 2 bottles. After I paid, I was told that if I take my wine receipt over to the cheese shop I get 10% off all cheeses if I show my receipt! PLUS PLUS!!!

So I walk into the cheese shop (its separate from the wine shop) and I'm quickly drawn the the various type of manchegos, bries, cheddars, parmesans and goudas. 5 yrs aged 10 years aged! I was in cheese heaven. There are little samples you can try before committing to a cheese. Also you can have them cut a custom hunk of cheese for you.

They also have a wide array of paninis to order. They have a small section in the back where you can hang out, eat your cheese or panini and order a pitcher of their specialty beer.

Vintner gets 5 stars but I get 1 for being a fool and avoiding this place for almost 10 months.

    Top... notch.

The beer selection could make your head spin. More than a hundred great bottles to choose from, and making your own 6-pack truly cannot be beat.

Plenty of cheese options, if that's what you're into.

Stay in or take your selection to go.

My one criticism is that they haven't opened up a location on the east side near my apartment...

lately i've been all about the not-too-busy-but-still-awesome places.

    this is one of them.

here i've split a couple bottles of wine with my girls, indulged in some of the tapas - hummus, grape leaves, olives and cheeses

i've also come by for some fantastic beer selections and rustic, well balanced sandwiches.

it's awesome because its not a buzzy-place, people aren't loud and the service is pretty good.  they are a bit pricey with the cheeses but otherwise, you can get a good bottle of red to share for about $24 which is pretty sweet for the area -and in my book.

Very casual and very fantastic. I came here with my girlfriends for happy hour and then some. We all had a great time and stumbled out happy with our bellies full. The service was impeccable as they accommodated to three very indecisive girls. They gave us samples of many of the cheeses and we were able to finally decide on a grab bag of different cheeses.  Don't forget to get the fig spread!

Tiny little shop that you would miss if you weren't looking for it. Delicious sandwiches that melt in your mouth. Usually takes a while to get them made (5-10 mins...more towards 10 mins), so not ideal if you are trying to get something quick. Would love to go back there and sit down for lunch since they have some tables in the back. They have an unbelievable selection of international beers, and obviously not to mention their cheeses. The place really smells like cheese, so if you don't enjoy that, I would steer clear! They also have little containers of nuts and jams that you can take with you. I would definitely recommend this, with the service being the only reason why it's not 5 star.

This hole-in-the-wall wine bar would deserve a 10-star rating if possible. They have a modest selection of wines and beers and a varying selection of noshables to pair with drinks. The prices are extremely reasonable and the service is fast and friendly. While many patrons are regulars, plenty are wanderers, too. For a cheap glass of white or red, a quick but classy lager, or a nibble of cheese, stop in and see for yourself!

I have never been to Vintner for their cheese and sandwich shop and have mainly come here to buy wines & champagne. I have had mixed experiences buying from here. While I have ended up with some great reasonably priced bottles from here, I have also had some absolutely horrendous recommendations from here. I have found the service to harried, bordering on rude and impatient on several occasions. My recommendation is 1) go to the attached cheese shop since that is what everybody seems to love or 2) come here with a purpose, knowing what you want you want to buy and avoid dealing with the clerks.

The 9th Avenue Vintner Cafe in the back of the cheese and beer shop is amazing.  There aren't that many seats but if you go with just a couple of people you can usually sit down right away.  I love their hummus and pita etc. platter and definitely recommend the prosciutto sandwich (I could live on prosciutto alone).  The staff has always been helpful when I need to pop in for a couple cheeses, and I love that you can get a mixed 6-pack of beer.  Great for trying out new beers!  Check out the taps in the front of the store.

Great sandwiches with fresh high quality ingredients. The beer selection met my pain in the ass standards with more than 100 different bottles of quality imports and micro-brews on selection. No comment on the wine since we stuck to yeast derived beverages on a hot day. Well worth the effort to hunt this place down.
