Irvine, CA
My girlfriend brought me to Vino for their Happy Hour. We arrived around 4:45 pm and the place was practically empty, only one other group - you would think good for us, but service was a bit slow. The bartender/waiter was busy chatting with the one patron at the bar and getting his station ready. But when it came to the bill, they were lightning fast!! I was disappointed in service!
But on to the food, we ordered the following:
- Sangria $5 - delicious. It has a great sweet and fruity taste. One of the better sangrias I have had. I would recommend.
- Delicias $4 - Bacon wrapped dates filled with walnuts and bleu cheese. These were amazing but very oily (go figure). The dates had a great sweet taste that works well with the cheese and the salty bacon. The only thing was that the cheese tasted like goat cheese and i didn't taste any of the nuts in there. I highly recommend these.
- Eggplant Crujiente $4- All the reviews are correct. Another must get! Again, these are very oily, just like fries but they are DELISH! They are very light and crispy like chips. With the honey drizzled on top and the light crunch in your mouth, this blend takes this plate over the edge into bliss. GET THIS!
- Croquetas $4 - These potato fried balls covered in a tomato sauce were my least favorite of all of our dishes. It was bland and nothing to even comment about. SKIP IT.
- Championes - Sautéed mushrooms in a sauce with slices of bread. You need to love mushrooms. Thankfully, I do. The flavor of the mushroom in its sauce were delicious when you topped it on the bread. It was good but not mind blowing.
- Slider - Its just one slider as it says but they should really have 2 sliders on this plate. One small slider is just not enough. The burger had a great taste and I would recommend.
- Pizza Pita - I had read some reviews and they weren't so favorable but I enjoyed this dish. The pesto covered pita covered in parmesan had a good taste and I enjoyed the crispiness of the pita. I'd possibly get this again.
Overall, Vino was enjoyable and I would come here again for tapas at happy hour. -

I had high hopes for this place, but from the second we walked in, it was disastrous. We opened the door and waited to be greeted and seated, however we stood there for 2 minutes and not one server acknowledged our presence and the place was nearly empty. We finally had to walk up to someone to get service.
When we were seated we said we had reservations, and although there was plenty of seating with "reserved" signs, we got sat at a janky little table. The calimari was good, but the wine I got recommended was garbage. We couldn't get out of this place fast enough. It got 2 stars only because there was live music. -

Met a friend here early on a Saturday night, HAPPY HOUR on a Saturday until 7PM - NICE.....
We ordered the following:
Cryspy Eggplant with Honey - I didn't want to order this but I'm glad we did - it was s fantastic! Thin crispy eggplant with honey. great!
Champiniones - if you mess this up there is a problem! Mushrooms in a cast iron skillet were fantastic.
Sliders: Excellent, I LOVE that they serve it for one! The fries were great.
Meatballs: We hesitated, Meatballs.....they were fantastic.
Pita Pizza: Good, not my favorite but I will try a pizza on a pita at home!
I really enjoyed this place, Small, intimate and a FANTASTIC happy hour. -

Vino is a personal favorite. I love to take friends and clients here. Their wine list is top-notch, the service is typically attentive and the atmosphere is small and cozy. They have a wide variety of salads, soups and full entrees along with their tapas, and the food is typically good. Their flights are a good bargain and a great introduction to the wines they serve, and their home-made sangria ranks among the best in town. I strongly recommend their lentils.
Vino has a small outdoor covered "patio" in the back and, on warmer nights, they put two small tables out front. Some nights feature live music. They have a "happy hour" on weeknights which starts up early and can prove to be a bargain. Warning: on Saturday nights, they place gets absolutely packed and, as small as it i, can get deafeningly loud.
This place is a 4.5 out of 5. I used to rank them a 5 out of 5, but some of the recent staff changes have affected the quality of the service. -

I've passed by this place more times than I could count, it looks quaint and cozy so I finally decided to try it out for happy hour. It was practically empty and there was no one to greeting at the front.
The food is decent to sub-par. For tapas you would expect a bit more out of a bite, but the bread was stale, the food came out lukewarm, and over-salted.
The patatas brevas were not crispy at all, instead they were really chewy like the consistency of a pencil eraser.
The pita of the pita pizza came out of a bag they got from the grocery store (not even the good kind, mind you) and was very tough. (I peeked into the kitchen and saw the bag, btw.)
The championes was the only dish that was decent, but nothing to rave about as the stale bread that came with it scraped my soft palate.
The service is super slow, the time in between dishes seemed to be an eternity-- I wouldn't be surprised if the food was just sitting on the kitchen counter and the waitress just wasn't attentive enough to bring it out to our table.
There are plenty of places to eat on Ventura Blvd. Skip this one unless you have no other options.
Meh. -

Yet one more of a very small handful of worthwhile places to eat and chill in the San Fernando valley. I love this place. So much so I hesitated to give it a review since I don't want it to become any more crowded than it already is. I know, I am a selfish bastard. Alas I have to say the tapas are very well crafted and they serve flights of wine here which I don't see that often.

Went there on a Monday and there were only a few people there. Ambiance was really nice and intimate. The waitress was very friendly and helpful with recommendations, however took a very long time in coming around to the table. Not sure if she was just trying to give us enough time to order and enjoy our conversations. Had the bacon-wrapped dates and shrimp in garlic sauce, which were not too bad, the croquettes which were not too good, would recommend to skip that. Also had the short ribs which was very tender, but flavor was just ok nothing to rave about.
I made a reservation at OpenTable where you pay $10 to get 30% off your bill. Well when the bill came, the 30% was not deducted and the waitress said she had never heard of this promotion. Luckily OpenTable refunded my $10, so if you decide to buy this deal from OpenTable and the restaurant does not honor the deal, they recommended that you speak with the manager. -

Vino is a great little spot on Ventura Blvd in Encino. I brought my girlfriend here on a date about a year and a half ago and since then, it has become one of our favorite go-to spots on date nights. Vino is dimly-lit and has a very intimate feel as soon as you walk in, and they usually have a live 1-2 person band playing near the door. I've seen about 5-8 different groups perform and every one of them has been great. If you sit too close to the band it's a little hard to hear each other speak, but if you sit in the middle to back of Vino then it's not a problem at all. I used to not be a fan of tapas restaurants but Vino single-handily brought me to the dark side. Each and every single one of their tapas plates is delicious, specifically the bacon-wrapped dates. My thinking used to be, why would I want a bunch of little small plates that I get 1 or 2 bites of when I could get a full size entree and get dozens of bites? However, after coming here a few times my mindset went from that to, why limit yourself to one dish when you can have 4-10 different ones? Ahhhh I becoming a snob as we speak, but I'll take me some tapas any night of the week. Great spot that's reasonably priced!

Though this place seemed like it could've been a great local stop (esp cause there are few cute wine bars in the Valley) it took us over 30 min to get any of the servers to even look at us long enough to get a menu.... We attempted to order but was unsuccessful at gaining their attention again so we took off. w as many servers as they had walking ard such a small space you'd think their service would be decent.. Unhappily surprised!

Love this place. The eggplant with honey, pan y ajo, papas bravas, filet mignon, tilapia are musts! Plus they offer $4 tapas from 5-7 p.m. Christopher is knowledgeable and friendly. They also offer music nightly which varies.
Parking is not the greatest but this place makes up for it. Delish! -

I really don't want to review this place because it's a secret I'd like to keep! The 1st time I came here I fell in love not only with the restaurant vibe, service, decor, wine and food - but I also fell in love with the woman who became my wife!
We've been here a dozen times since then and is one of our favorite places in the valley. An EXCELLENT wine menu with an even more outstanding tapas menu. If you don't feel like sitting inside, through the kitchen is a charming outdoor patio where once a week Flemenco Dancers will perform. The owner is as lovely as they come, and we will always treat ourselves with this hidden jewel of Los Angeles! -

This has been a regular haunt for my husband and me for the past couple of years. There's a great romantic atmosphere with live music and above average food. And, of course, the wine selection is great.
All of that said, we were very UNpleasantly surprised the last time we visited to find that portion sizes had been cut in half, while prices remained the same. :-( When we asked what was going on, we were told that there was a new chef, and that he had made some changes. Don't get me wrong... I understand that times are tough, but if you're going to cut portions in half, you also have to reduce the price at least a little bit!
This left a very sour taste in our mouths. Don't know when we'll be going back. -

I love wine and cheese. So, this place was obviously a must-try place for me. My friend was playing guitar on a Wednesday night and I decided to drop by with a friend (and his friends)
It's a very small spot (which I like) very intimate - you feel like you're ONE with the musicians. Obviously it was a bit expensive - because it's wine and cheese. and when I hear the words "wine and cheese" together, dollar signs automatically pop up - like, 4 dollar signs. haha.
My friend and I decided it'd be economically smarter to just buy a bottle and split it. It was a good choice. But if you wanna try out different wines, it's probably best to buy per-glass - but get ready to drop a nice amount of cash. Each glass is anywhere from $7 all the way to $24. Obviously it depends on the year, location, tannins , etc etc.
If you're broke; don't come here - go to Vons and get a decent bottle for the same price as a glass and a block of cheese for as much as you'd pay for 2 slices at vino. HAha, That's the one thing I was actually shocked about. I get that wine is gona be expensive - but we ordered cheese..for $8..and they came out with literally 2 slices of cheese. Next time I'll get the mushroom dish instead - or, have Donald Trump take me . LOL jokes.
The staff was cool. We originally sat at the bar, but as more of our friends arrived, we wanted to get a table. Alot of the tables were reserved, but they were just..sitting there - empty for about an hour. We mentioned that to the gal, and she ended up checking for us - the party was a no-show - so she let us sit there - which I thought was cool. Some people are real hard-asses about stuff like that.
I'll definitely come back, though. It was fun-times. just, no cheese. -

I never saw the appeal of tapas. When I want to eat, I want to freaking EAT. These small plates trend doesnt suit me at all.
They're pretty expensive for such a small plate and they get nothing done for my stomach.
Okay, I understand if you come here with a big group and everyone orders something else and everyone shares, but in my opinion tapas are useless on a date.
As for vino itself?
Food is decent. Nothing more than that though.
Service is disgustingly slow, waitresses seem like its their first day on the job and are not attentive one bit.
Chances of coming back a pretty slim. -

Must say, I was disappointed. The service was horrible and the tapas were not much better. The tapas took FOREVER to come out. Only 1/3 of the place was full so being too busy was no excuse.
The first glass of wine I tried, I sent back because it was really thin, as though the bottle had been opened since yesterday. Finally well into our second glass each our food started to arrive and it all came out at the same time.
The food was nothing special and the long Wait essentially overshadowed anything that was decent. Just overall a bad experience. Would not recommend. -

Tried this for the first time last week. Loved it. The happy hour menu is amazing (delicious Sangria!!). We tried the albondigas, calamares fritos, champinones, patatas bravas, and croquetas. All were delicious. Looking forward to trying a few of the more traditional tapas dishes next time, I have a feeling we'll be back often :)

Yesterday, my husband and I went for a late night dinner- around 11:30pm. We haven't visited Vino's in quite some time(because we were actually quite disappointed at our last visit). We noticed a HUGE difference in the taste of the food- quality and flavors were so much better than our last vist. We learned that they had a new chef that started 4 months ago. Hats off to the chef because the food was simply amazing!
We ordered the mushrooms, mussels and meatballs and it was a perfect match to our red wine.
Staff was super professional, attentive and friendly. They also had a guitarist playing some wondeful music from Gypsy Kings to Toni Braxton and much more! A perfect date night venue.
Glad we gave Vino's another try!!! -

I love this place. Open Late. Great Tapas (try the fries and bacon wrapped dates).
I would only do the top flight of wines, if you are trying the flights. The second flight had some medium choices. But the pricing is very reasonable. -

Unfortunately, the owner of this restaurant, Alla ruins the customer service. The staff is amazing, the food is good but I will go to this place less and less (it used to be my favorite place in Encino and I was going there at least three times/week). I approached her to compliment her about her restaurant and I was appalled to see that she measured me head to toe (after I've spent $150 that night and I brought her additional customers) and then rolling her eyes she just "dismissed" me....like I did not have an appointment with her.....and she knew that her place was too good for me.....

I'm glad that this 'around-the-corner' tapas and wine bar exist! Love the ambiance. They did not have all the wine and cheese available at the time of my visit. But, I enjoyed trying the other selections. Delicious! Definitely, I will be back. And since it's around the corner. I see myself being a regular. Oh and they do have a HAPPY HOUR menu. This rocks!

the fish dishes were very good - talipia and salmon. the other dishes were tasty as well. but i try and stay away from too much oil and fried food - so i skipped those items. not many tapas places in the west valley. so if you into tapas, i would try here. i have only been here once.

We've been several times since we live close by. It's good, but could be so much better! Pros: great wine selection, nice decor, live music in the evening. It's a fun place to go. The musicians are different every time, but are always good. Cons: the new portion sizes and the spotty service. Last time we were there the waitress explained that the portion sizes had been adjusted. I'll say! They're teeny. Good, but teeny. The salmon was great, especially. The service...Last time our server brought someone else's food to our table, took it away, then came back and asked us what we'd ordered. It's normal for them to forget part of your order, so keep track! Try it at happy hour and get reservations if you're going on the weekend since it's a small place. We'll be going less often now, probably just for special occasions.

like others, I also have mixed reviews for this place. I arrived 5 minutes early for my reservation and had to wait over 20 before we were seated because they were so packed.
There were four of us at the table and 3 of us had dried food on our plates so we asked the girl to replace them with clean ones (which she had a total attitude about) the waitress was actually rude the entire night and it could be because they were so busy, but that is not my problem and if she can't deal with it then maybe she shouldn't be working there. The restaurant is just understaffed for a friday night and that is lack of planning on the managers part. To top it all off, after waiting for what seemed like FOREVER for our appetizers to arrive, I walked past the kitchen on my way to the bathroom only to see the kitchen staff standing around laughing and talking, ridiculous.
If it wasn't for the sommelier who was extremely helpful and the great tasting food, I would have rated this place one star for this particular visit, and probably my last. -

Was dying to give them 4 or 5 stars, because I love the look and feel of the place, and the food was very good! The problem I had with this place was two fold.
One, the service was really substandard. We sat around forever waiting to get served, and finally decided to sit at the bar. The bartender, if that's what you call someone who pours wine and beer, was a nice guy, but clueless! Took five requests to get water, and my wine glass was constantly empty!
Second, I ordered a glass of wine from the wine menu, which had a price of $15.00, and the bartender informed me that it was a misprint and would cost $30.00! How crazy! Reprint the damn menu, but don't tell me there was a misprint. Cover it up with the correct price label if you have to, but don't bait and switch me like that.
I loved the guitar player and wine selection, but they aren't hitting on all cylinders that's for sure. -

I don't know which is worse, the fact that our waiter left his shift to go to the airport and forgot to transfer our table to another waiter, or the fact that even after TWENTY minutes (literally) of my wife and I blatantly staring down every waiter that came in our general vicinity, not a single one stopped to ask us if we needed anything. We decided to take matters into our own hands and walked up to a waitress and asked for our check. After another 10 minutes, we realized she had forgotten. Who hires these people?? We asked yet another waitress and told her we thought our waiter had gone on break, and that was when we found out he had left to go to the airport. The food definitely didn't out way the horrible service. We were really hoping Vino would be our answer to Ole closing down. Sadly disappointed. We won't be going back.

Meh...
Came back here last night. *Sigh*
I fancied a nosh (and a ton of Sangria..) whilst my friends were after a proper tapas session.
They got there before me so unsure how long it took them to get the seat. The place was super packed, which was nice to see on a Weds night...
I seat it must have been about 20 good minutes for the waitress to realize that we didn't get drinks and or menus... 5 more minutes for her to come back with menus....
To cut a long story short.... My friends had their foods come one by one with about 15 minutes gap per tapas.... I NEVER got mine.... The waitress never mentioned the price of the Sangria jug (NOTE, PRICES ARE NOT ON THE MENU..) ... Which resulted in them waiving that because it's really expensive....
I don't think I'll be back anytime soon to be honest.
Yes, it's close to my place and cute decor etc etc but this experience has left me with bitter taste.... And empty stomach!!!

Just got home from a date with my wife on her birthday 11/11, decided to try this place from the great reviews and recommendations. The tapas were pretty good (pizza pita was great) and wine variety was good however pricy. Our biggest complain was the demographic... for a young couple looking for a decent place to have a good time I would not recommend it. For Baby Boomers great place, gen X's no good, gen Y's you definately wont see iPads at this location.

I love the live guitarist playing and the wine selection! You can try different wines before you choose to have a glass of. My favorite dishes are the lamp chops, scallops, the sliders and the list goes on. Everything is good. They do have a new chef now do some dishes are prepared a little different but still good nonetheless. I would give it a 5 but the pricing for the portion size and type of dishes are high in my opinion but I come back because it's romantic and local and makes a good date night.

UGH!! After being lead through the kitchen (yuck) we were seated on the outside patio. Whenever a car drives down the alley or pulls in to park, you get the lights shinned on you! Can't they put up some kind of fence with plantings?!
Ordered our first bottle of wine, she breaks off the cork in the bottle. Now, this can happen to anyone...however at A WINE BAR!!! She runs off with the bottle and comes back all fixed (yeah, sure). Wine was nice, nothing special..
Tapas ordered and all came out fast.....the Papas Brava tasted like Ore-ida hash browns, soggy and dry...cheese on cheese platter could NOT have been sliced any thinner with a few (8) raisins scattered about. The ham had a "off" taste. We paid or bill and ran out of there as fast as we could. Too bad, I really wanted to like this place..it had come recommended from a friend.. -

Pros: Great wine selection, yummy snack-sized tapas, lovely atmosphere and live music, generally ample street parking, servers that know their craft
Cons: Sometimes lack luster service, occasional rudeness/ condescension, small yet pricey tapas, this place can get PACKED
Vino is lovely inside- it's quaint, cozy, semi-casual and has a warm glow. The food is delicious, specifically the tapas, as an after or before dinner snack. Their food pairs very well with their wine list and their wine list is AMAZING. I've been frequenting Vino since I accidentally discovered it more than a year ago. The quality is consistent, the atmosphere is always spot on, and the live music really adds to your experience. That said, I have been to Vino enough times to have experienced nose-upturning from the same waitress twice. I will go back to Vino, but I'm going to exercise the three strikes and you're out rule. Vino is good, but expensive, and for that I expect nothing but delicious wine, a great selection of tapas, and exemplary service. -

This place had it highs and lows for me. Let me preface this by saying I have been here once, but only for a late night (10pm) glass of wine about a little over a year ago (during the week) and was quite fond of it, which is why I selected this place for my boss' birthday.
Highs: The venue itself is quaint, and for our party of seven, we were given a cabana in the hidden garden. The cabana was spacious and has little fire pits which kept us nice and toasty.
The waitress, in the beginning was super attentive and sweet (more on her later).
The Sangria is to die for. $30 for TWO liters is very reasonable considering the quality. One of the best I've had.
The empanadas: spinach and goat cheese are cooked to perfection.
The filet mignon was tender and flawless.
The short rib was delicious and melted in my mouth.
The stuffed peppers tasted great.
And that's about it.
The Lows:
Granted, it's a SATURDAY night and the place was jammin', but one thing a restaurant should never do, no matter how crowded it is:
Serve COLD food.
Not only did most of our dishes and sides (the french fries) come out luke-warm to cold, it kind of ruined the delight of eating.
Personally, STEAMED mussels...should be steaming, and hot. The mussels were cold and white wine broth was cold. And, I ordered them, within the first 10 minutes of arriving and didn't get them until 1.5 hours later as I had to remind the waitress about 4 times. I got them cold and AFTER my "big small plates" arrived.
The fries for our filet were cold.
Our meatballs were lukewarm.
The paella...bland, cold, and soggy. I always thought paella was supposed to be rich in flavor and not mushy.
I could go on, but I'll let it go. Fortunately, the majority of us didn't let it get to us. We ate and kept our mouths shut as the food for the most part was great tasting...just lacked the appropriate serving temperature and time.
It was a good enough experience as I am understanding that small venues like Vino get overwhelmed, but as a customer service snob, I was hoping the waitress wouldn't be like the food: cold and untimely. A little smile doesn't hurt, and we understand how difficult it is to go back and forth, but it's part of the process.
All in all, we had an excellent time at Vino and enjoyed ourselves. Things could always be better, but hopefully next time the kinks will be fixed.
Vino is adorable, and the live musician adds flair to the place. The food is good, and the service needs a little pick me up.
I'm ultimately torn on how to rate this place, but I wouldn't NOT come back and I wouldn't PRIORITIZE to come back.
That's Vino, I guess. It's just...A-Okay! -

One of my favorite spots in the area. Wine selection is solid, tapas (mostly) taste great, and the happy hour prices are perfect. On Saturday nights they usually have a musician playing acoustic guitar, which adds to the ambiance.
The place is pretty small, so if you're going on the weekend, it's a good idea to make reservations.
