This is a very rustic, roadside "Tapas Bistro" type restaurant. The service was fast and attentive and our waitperson helped us choosing dishes. The food was excellent!
That said, I'm not a fan of "small plates" restaurants because I always find myself over-eating. Last night was no exception, as the four of us could not control ourselves!! We strongly recommend the ceviche and tuna cakes as they were beyond outstanding!!!
In all, we really enjoyed ourselves, had a great meal and all for a very reasonable price.
What a disappointment!!!
The location is beautiful, with the picturesque mountain views.
I had a Margarita, which burned my throat completely.
Basically, it was sweet and sour and ice, maybe a half shot of tequila.
The food was not so great either. Way overpriced for what it was.
It was a weekend night, and there were only a few people in there.
(I wonder why). For the prices, this should be o so much better!
WOW, what a difference a few years makes! I grew up on Vineyards Inn's Mexican food and looked forward to every visit, and after 6 years of being out of the area, I returned today for a much anticipated lunch. Boy was I disappointed! The menu has changed drastically, the prices soared, and the service was worse than Mac Donald's. The meat was bottom rate, the chips were greasy, the cheese and sauces were bland at best. The worst part was the service: no soda refill, no meal followup on if we were satisfied (they completely fumbled my wife's request to have some side items), we waited 15 minutes after our plates and drinks were cleared to get our bill (which we has to ask for), and all this with only 3 tables being occupied. I'm sad to say, I'd rather fill up on Chevy's half-rate Mexican food than return to Vineyards Inn.
I really liked this place. The service was accommodating and pleasant. The waitress gave us a variety of fresh figs.Went here for lunch on a week day .It was not especially crowded. It is a little slow but the food is hot and consistently delicious when it comes out .They had a sturgeon special when we went there , which always excites me(something has to).I had a good lamb stew .The menu is creative and the preparations well executed had a local Viognier which I quite liked.
Went there a few times for the spanish tapas and loved it. Most were great, some were okay. Overall can't really go go wrong - good fresh (organic) ingredients, many dishes are traditional spanish tapas with a twist.
I can't say much on the mexican food and drinks - really didn't waste my time since for me it was all about the tapas.
The pallea was good, but not as flavorful as some others I had which I liked better.
We're definitely hooked and will keep going back there every time that are in the neighborhood!
The only thing that I can rave about is the Casino Royale ceviche (YUM!). I thought everything else was mediocre and actually really pricey. The nachos were good but typical, poke was a little fishy for my liking, and the chorizo and baguette was so-so (I would've put it on crustier bread). Cajun oysters had a strange soggy crumby texture that I could've done without. Shrug.
So, on my quest to find a good paella we headed from Petaluma to Kenwood. We arrived a little early for dinner about 4:45. The place was starting to fill up and a party going on in the large room, so we were seated in the small room by the main entrance. The place smelled good with a smokey aroma. There was a lot to choose from on the menu; that always takes the wife forever. I ordered the Paella Valenciana, fresh chicken, clams, mussels, homemade chorizo & prawns in short grained saffron rice which came with soup our salad.. The watress stated that the paella would take 30 minutes and that the soup wasn't available until 5pm.. Oh well. The wife ordered the chile relleno which also came with soup or salad.
The salads were GREAT! A nice fresh mix of greens with a creamy dijon dressing. My paella came out in a paella pan, hotter than heck. The flavor of the rice was good by I found out I do not like mussels and ruined the flavor a bit. The chicken was dry and the chorizo was rubbery. There was no crust in the bottom of the pan :-(. The best part of a paella. My wife's chile relleno was on the small side but was served with a good portion of refried beans and spanish rice. She said it was tasty but not the best she's every had.
We had room for dessert, me, chocolate brownie sundae, it was ok. The wife had a strawberry parfait which was basically a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream and chopped fresh strawberries in a martini glass.
I would come back to try other items on the menu but tonights meal was so, so......
Great lunch specials. Bambie loved her shrimp salad. My yellow fin tuna sandwich was savory. Barely cooked fillet on toasted slices of french bread. I usually dislike french fried potatoes. I ate every one here, they were that good. The portion sizes were filling.
Small wine list. All organic All local - Real local (within 10 miles).
Menu is adventurous Spanish meals you'd find in Pamplona or Barcelona. A few Mexican dishes thrown in for good measure.
Full liquor bar. 12 tequilas can be had as fancy Margaritas or shots.
Prices are reasonable.
I live 400 yards from this place. I eat here. That's a local yokel endorsement.
this place is AWESOME! we went there on a Saturday afternoon, and there weren't many people, but 3:30 is kind of late for lunch. They have a vegan menu along with their regular menu which is nice if you're going to something on the healthier side.
I ordered the Fettuccine Esteban (named after the chef). It was pretty good. I did ask for some hot sauce and what they brought out was a home made sauce that was delicious and offered a lot of flavor.
My Husband ordered the Pork Adobo, and he swears that he was actually served beef instead. Ithought that it looked like pork, but he SWEARS that it was beef. I know that Adobo adds quite a beefy taste, but I'm siding with him on this. Because he said that it was still fine, we didn't ask if they did make the substitution. Our appetizer was EXCElleNT! SO Delicious! we had the Grilled marinated artichokes! Next time I think that we'll go back for just the artichokes. Several orders of the artichokes!
The meals were kind of pricey, but everything is made in house and extremely fresh.
Also Kaz Winery is right there, next door so it's a perfect place to grab a snack (tapas) before or after wine tasting!
The waiter was very young and cute and friendly, too.
Man, the margaritas are strong and smooth at this restaurant. Date lighting in certain parts are further enhanced by the margarita warmth.
Talk about an oasis along the country road. Grape vines actually grow along the posts and rafters of the covered patio area (Vineyards Inn, get it?) Fine Mexican and Spanish cuisine. Ceviche Tapas Paella AND Mexican food under one roof! Just a really fun menu. Great date or pal place. And yes, kid friendly.
Excellent Smithers! A local yocal recommended this place for an unassuming lunch and the Vineyards Inn did NOT dissapoint. I could see how it's been missed, the outside isn't very glamorous and the tables plastic, but the food was wowwweeezoooweee great after an early afternoon of drinking. AND, at $40 person with a full meal, bottle of wine and some beers was a great deal compared to the tourist traps.
Stop off here on your way home and re-fuel and sober up. Don't let the rather drab exterior fool you, the food is great and so's the service.
Recommended dishes:
Fish Sticks (not THAT kind of fish stick, although that's sort of what we wanted too, nope it was on a skewer and covered in garlic, amamawuuwuwuw)
Crab Cakes (fresh, they're so fresh, exciting...so exciting and new)
Salsa (just dump it on your face, go ahead)
Grilled Artichoke (not for the faint of, ah, well, oil, but sooo yummy just ask for extra napkins)
Banana Ice Cream (I scream, you scream...you get it)
taste of spain folks!
this is the best kept secret in the area. great GREAT fabulous ORGANIC food in one of the most beautiful stretches in wine country. not expensive for the area. its just fabulous. i highly recommend ALL the appetizers with a group of friends and the sangria.
brought my friends from spain and they even loved it. its truly great food folks. and they grow lots of their own veggies right there.
Great place to catch a bite after hitting up the Kenwood wineries.
You can relax and take in some app's in the bar next to the fireplace, or eat a huge meal in the small patio-esque dining room.
I enjoyed eating here, of course I was more than a little tipsy, after Kaz, Vjb, etc...
Viva the wine country!
I am not easy to please, but this place made me happy. All the staff were super friendly, the margaritas just right, and the food outstanding. The coolest part is that they are dedicated to being a green business! Not easy to find, even around these parts. We ordered the homemade pasta with chicken, mushrooms, capers, and green onions in a delicious light sauce of some kind, the raw tuna sesame salad, and the best part, the creme brulee - wow!! It was all flavorful, not too salty, good portion sizes and the service was great. Don't miss it.
