Vine Rover Wine Tours
This is the third time I've been on a Vine Rover wine tour, and it was just as wonderful as every other time. David was our tour guide this time & he was 10 minutes early to pick us up at our hotel...great sign! Jay, the owner of the company called to say that the normal Vine Rover (which is a Land Rover Jeep type open air car). We instead got to ride in a bit more luxury. A Chevy something or another with leather seats, DVD player, etc.
David, a very nice & knowledgeable guy, drove to 6 or so wineries in the Dry Creek, Santa Rosa & Sebastopol area. He told us all sorts of history of each winery we went too & because we used that company, our wine tasting fees were all waived!
This is a great way to see some of the wonderful wineries that area has to offer. It's definitely a nice alternative to having to drive your party or getting a limo. He asked us where we wanted to go & asked him to pick his favorites. It was awesome, third time using this company & haven't been to the same winery twice!

When I was in Santa Barbara, I toured the Santa Ynez wine valley with Cloud Climbers Jeep Tours and I wanted the same experience for my cousin and sister, both newbies to wine tasting in Sonoma County. I posted a plea for references on the Yelp Talk board and got a tip on Vine Rover Tours.
After some phone tag, I secured a private tour with Vine Rover for 4 hours ($75 an hour) on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. Jay (driver) and Matt (sidekick) arrived right on time, picking us up where I preferred (in front of Thumbprint). They took us to Schlumberger, which I had specially requested and they fulfilled it by making a reservation for a private tour with the VP of Winery Relations (no extra charge!). We were at Schlumberger for over an hour, and they patiently waited for us.
Matt and Jay are both very knowledgeable about the region and about wine making, and they took us to small boutique wineries, like Dutcher Crossing and Bella Wine Caves. We let them have the reins after visiting Schlumberger and we weren't disappointed with their choices of wineries to visit in the Dry Creek region. We had a blast: the ride was relaxing and I can't wait to tour with them again -- probably Alexander Valley next time!
I highly recommend them for your next wine tour. They use their Ford Excursion in the fall/winter and the open air Land Rovers in the spring/summer. Jay and Matt were easy-going, knowledgeable guides and took good care of us!
