yay! i came in here on a thursday and had a wonderful time. staff was great (hi logan!) the space is beautiful.

the patrons that were there were friendly and kind and helpful with helping me, the wine n00b, pick out some things that i would like.

i plan on going back! most likely tonight...it IS thursday after all.

p.s. the owner of this place also owns has beans across the street.

I watched this place getting built across the street from my apartment with breathless anticipation. My first trip there was excellent! I sat in the patio area in the back which is really lovely with lots of space. The inside decor is really nice as well - great for a date or a night with friends.
The wine list is extensive and the people working there, especially Jeff, are very helpful. Jeff also works part time at the wine store across the street, and really knows his stuff.
My friend and I had a nice dry rose and shared the "meat plate" which comes with yummy pate and proscuitto as well as olives and bread.

I hope this place manages to outlast the neighborhood learning curve.  It is owned by the same woman who owns Has Beans across the street, and reflects her more grown up flavor.  It serves wines, some beers, and fortified wines like sherries and ports, as well as olive plates,  little cheese plates and desserts from Trois Pommes (owned by Emily Isaacs in the neighborhood and AMAZING).  It also has a really friendly bar staff, a pretty garden out back, and a full open glass front.

Essentially, what is going for it is exactly it's weakness:  it's grownup.  Most of the hipsters who have moved into the neighborhood prefer drinking cheap beer with a jukebox full of bands they heard 2 weeks ago in some Bushwick loft party.  While I am of the same age group as my neighbors, I'm not much of a partier, so I like the idea that I have an alternate place to drink - maybe I can invite my octogenarian neighbors to join me.  So if the hipsters decide to drink wine or the neighborhood gets priced out for the rest of us, then this place will do well.  If not, there's now 8 bars in a 7 block stretch, so no one will go without.

Really great addition to the S Slope.  This is the perfect destination when you want to sit outside and enjoy a brew or glass of vino.  The inside looks pretty nice too, but we've never indulged at it always seems to be a nice day when we want to Vin Rouge.  You get much more than a 3 oz pour here too, making this a reasonably priced destination as well.  It's something a little different.

The cheese plate and olive oil plate make for some sweet snacks, too.

I am SO unbelievably happy that Vin Rouge closed. Its earthy tone of pretentiousness resonated so high it complimented the fishy smell from the sushi place next door. With subtle notes of acidic pointlessness, this unbalanced venue had a crisp finish of rubbing me and several others the wrong way. Not even the siren song of Scrabble made this briary place worthwhile.

Tell me, what's tackier: Charging $1 for Goldfish crackers or having Goldfish crackers at a wine bar?

Unimpressed at their prices for the neighborhood, I ordered 2 glasses of Sangria. The glasses weren't even filled half way, then another customer sat next to me, ordered the same and got a heavy serving that eclipsed ours. That-aint-right.

Then, the server tells me the total for both glasses was $10.16or something.....when was the last time you got coin change back from a bar?!?!!? The whole place was lame and out of its element for the area drawing a comparably obnoxious crowd. The persnickety tax total combined with charging for irrelevant snackies was all that we needed to write this place off and wait for its inevitable closing. Which is too bad because it seemed to have so much promise, but clearly it was handled the wrong way, enabling it to not even survive for a year.

    GOOD RIDDANCE

Another new place in South Slope/Greenwood Heights.  Mainly a wine bar with a few beers and sangria (red only, but I was pushing for white).  Nice atmosphere with outdoor space.  Friendly staff.  They have a few items like cheese plates/olive bowl/nuts bowl/salami/etc.  They also have dessert, which I didn't try.  A little pricey, but not terrible.

There are reasons to hate the gentrification happening in South Slope and reasons to love it.  This bar is a reason to love it!  Yay for this new bar!  It is sophisticated but casual.  It has a great patio and a great interior too with an open front for you to watch people walking by.  The wait staff and owners are so knowledgeable and really enjoy helping you pick out a new wine and telling you about it.  Great selection of all types of wine.  Last night I had a Cava wine with a scoop of pinot noir ice cream in it.  YUM!  Please go here so it will stay open!  :)

A much needed wonderful addition to the South Slope. I have been here a couple of times - once out in the lovely little back garden, and on one rainy night inside. They serve their wine in beautiful glasses and have some cute little appetisers to go along with your wine consumption...um, I mean, tasting. There is a large variety of wines to choose from with prices that can suit everyone.

I'm a little obsessed with this place. It's probably because their white sangria is incredible and the patio is, simply put, adorable. Plus, it's nice to have a wine bar I don't have to trek all the way up Fifth to get to. My only complaint is my lack of willpower every time I get within three blocks of the joint.

Love this place. We usually go on a Saturday or Sunday evening, so I have always had the same bartender. Super-nice guy, knows his wine, easy to chat with, etc. His recommendations are always great. We live nearby and probably go once or twice a month. We'd go more if they had more food - the serve pate, cheese, fondue and that sort of thing, but we usually go there and then elsewhere for a real meal. Great place though - I hope they do well.
