Review from Aimee M.
When one person tells you that the chicken tenders at Village Tavern are awesome, then it's believable. But when 5 more random people tell you that the chicken tenders from VT are awesome, then it almost becomes urban legend-y. I mean how good can chicken tenders be?
I've been here twice so far and the chicken tenders live up to their reputation. Crispy, fluffy and golden coating, and chicken so moist and so juicy. The dinner portion is a hefty serving so I ended up having leftovers. Yet even as leftovers, the chicken tenders were delicious. The Honey Mustard they serve with it is also a must. It's thick and rich with sweet and tangy flavor (and probably contains fairy dust, because I could not get enough!) Put the ketchup bottle away, dip yo french fries in the honey mustard!
There's lots to choose from on the menu if you dare to try anything other than the legendary chicken tenders. The nacho platter is huge and there is the AYCE Fish Fry which I hope uses the same batter as the tenders. I'll be back to try those.
Service is so friendly (anyone that likes to coo and make my infant son smile is tops in my book). There's a bar area that is hopping (even at 2pm in the afternoon!) and a patio for the warmer months. Very Family Friendly. I love the music they played overhead during my last visit--Hair Bands of the 80's LOVED IT!Listed in: Family Friendly Dining…

Chicken tenders & nachos....that's all I get here and both are so good I don't even want to get anything else. The hype is true, the chicken tenders are mind blowing. And the honey mustard sauce is heavenly. I've been to this location a few times and it is always crowded but the wait hasn't been too bad.

My boyfriend and I went here last night for dinner. It was pretty busy. Our server was Chelsea. She seemed flustered (it was busy) but was very attentive. I got the Chicken Diablo (cajun chicken fettucini) and my boyfriend got the chicken tenders. Both were great. Those chicken tenders are addictive and the portions are giant. The only negative thing was that the fries were just boring and came out luke warm. I usually swap them out for the garlic mashed potatoes though because those are awesome. Also the vegetable side was very plain. Overall a good experience.

I always look forward to a trip to Village Tavern when in Carol Stream for business. Great service and a lot of good energy coming from this place. It feels more like a downtown tavern than a place you'd find on Schmale Road. Pretty much can't go wrong on the menu, but anything involving the chicken fingers is exceptional. Always slammed during lunch hour, so plan accordingly.

I used to really like this place. The last few times I have been here the quality control seems to of gone way down. Finding all sorts of mystery deep fried items included with your food is no way to serve a meal. I would of given it 1 star but it used to be really good...

Menu was uninspiring, tho daily specials seemed a nice idea. Spoke with the hostess and the manager to make sure their WiFi was available before my trip out there to work over dinner. When I couldn't connect to the internet, the manager was apologetic but had no one who could solve the problem. Christmas decorations were above average.

My family loves the food and enjoys going to Village Tavern...but I don't. The service has always been lacking, and it's SO loud. Our servers rarely check back with us to see how our food is after it's delivered. On our last visit we were seated at a weird center table in the room behind the hostess station, and every single server and customer who walked by actually hit me. I tried scooting my chair as far over as possible but it didn't help. A manager walked by and I thought about talking to him about our seat, but he walked by and hit me, too! No apologies from anyone. It was very frustrating, but there was no other table available to move to at the time.
The food is ok. I'm not sure why the chicken fingers and au gratin potatoes get raves...the chicken is over-breaded and the au gratin potatoes are rather tasteless. -

Been going here for about 15 years. Used to go their a lot the first five years. Always get the same things, Apps. for the main meal
The last 5 years I feel that its been going down hill with food and especially the service.
Always seem like the people that ran the place (not the owners) were always on the young side.
Went their last night - not very pleased with either the food or service
The wings were either over cooked or under cooked. The chicken fingers that were always good were fair and the nachos were just OK. I think they changed the cheese and steak was very bland.
The place has definitely changed over the years - Too bad -

Yeah, this VT is much better than the one I usually frequent in Schaumburg service-wise. My friend had a coupon for this location, so we met up there on a Friday night, and boy am I glad we did!!
Our waitress was Rachel, and she was sweet, attentive, and really on top of her game. Everything was refilled and brought out in a timely manner, but not so obnoxious that we felt rushed and that she wanted to turn her table or anything. She was just a great waitress overall!!
And, as always, the nachos were amazing (see picture)! I got the BBQ chicken withe the baked potato. it wasn't my favorite thing on their menu, but it got the job done.
I will definitely be back. The nachos are calling my name!! -

So this was my first visit ever to Village Tavern and I was told to go for the chicken fingers with honey mustard...so thats exactly what I did! They were pure awesomeness! We also had the nachorama which was huge but awesome as well. Our server Rachel was extremely nice and although she was busy, she never made us feel forgotten or left us without drinks. She did a fabulous job!
I will definitely be a returning customer! -

I absolutely love this place. We sometimes go for "happy hour" on paydays. We always sit by the bar. Gotta get there early or you will be waiting for a long time.
Love their chicken fingers to death. Could eat them every day. They have awesome drinks and bartenders. My personal fave is the sangriatini.
Definitely worth going if you're looking for a really nice place to hang with friends and have a couple of drinks! -

Can't give it 3 now that there are so many other culinary choices in the 'burbs. Getting very out-dated in decor and menus. Needs major upgrade! Is it wrong for me to ask for their Chili and expect a packet of crackers that are not already smashed?

Food Coma! Hungover? Then visit Village Tavern and Grill! Huge ass portions for really good comfort food. Yep, those chicken fingers that my daughter loves are really good, greasy comfort food. Plus, you get a ton with decent fries. The Nacho platter is as big as your head. I get a half order without chili and add skirt steak and extra jalepenos, delish. Their onion soup is a bit salty but the cheese makes up for that. Awesome Ruebens and Patty Melts. Good service too. Reason for 4 and not 5 stars? Too many fatties, sorry : - ( but you figure they know where to go for good food and large portions.

Review from Kara Z.
I've been here probably five times and come back only because I crave their homemade chicken fingers. In all of our previous visits I was very disappointed with the service. I felt like it wasn't friendly and they often didn't bring refills for water or pop and it just tended to be kind of a frustrating experience.
I'm happy to say that this experience was much improved! The person who greeted us at the door and seated us was kind and quick. We were happy to have the choice to sit in a booth. Our server, Kimberly O, was fantastic! She was by far the best server we've ever had at Village Tavern and Grill. She was pleasant, friendly, positive, quick, and she checked back several times and brought drink refills at the perfect time. She had a great smile and was just great.
The chicken fingers, as noted in many reviews, are absolutely amazing. I've never had any like it. I love that there are enough for me to enjoy for dinner and then have a full leftover the next day- they are great heated up in the oven or toaster oven. They come with amazing honey mustard sauce. I LOVE these.
I'm not crazy about the fries and hope I can remember that next time. They are not crispy and are kind of medium thickness. Next time I'll try the garlic mashed potatoes. You also get your choice or soup or salad- the house salad is crisp and cold and pretty good.
We tried the chips and salsa- not my favorite either but OK. The chips are really thick and the salsa is almost like soup- kind of different.
My husband enjoyed his Blues Burger- with bacon and blue cheese.
There are TV's everywhere.
You really have to try these chicken fingers!!! -
Review from Kate M.
This might be our new go to lunch spot in the burbs. Since my brothers and sis in law moved close to the Village Tavern we've had more than a few lunches here. Everything we've tried has been good.
The pot roast lunch was delicious. I was pleasantly surprised to see the carrots and broccoli was steamed, not cooked in the pot roast, it was really good. My brother likes the chicken finger salad. The pulled pork sandwich was really good too.
The service is pretty good. Every server we've had talks really really fast. Sometimes it's hard to understand them. They are very friendly and usually attentive.
Village Tavern is (so far) my favorite lunch spot by the new house. -

The fam and I have been coming here for years. Let me tell you it's all about the World Famous (no lie) Chicken Fingers and honey mustard dipping sauce.
If I had to choose a way to die it would be with a IV bag honey mustard dipping sauce injected directly into my veins. The Chicken Fingers are done right with light crispy batter around thick pieces of actual chicken, no Buffalo Wild Wings microwaved nugget thingees here. My mother always opts for the Chicken Finger Salad claiming that it's healthier, umm they just put the chicken fingers on top of some lettuce and lettuce alone does not a healthy dish make but it is divine.
I've easily been here 50 times in my life and I would love to recommend something else on the menu but can't because all I get is the Chicken Fingers. I'm reminded of the Simpsons:
Lisa: Dad, there's other wipes besides star wipes.
Homer: Yeah, but why eat hamburger when you can eat steak. -

Went there with a honey and had the honey sauce with, what else, the chicken fingers. I think they use a tempura like batter rather then the typical four, egg drink, and coating combo for deep frying. I was so hyped for these "best in the whole wide world" chicken fingers, I was a little let down. Don't get me wrong. They were very good. I am glad they were not even remotely close to chicken mc nuggets! Of course, my honey suggested this place as she lives close by. She is a big fan of The Village. We both had the chicken fingers and I had the fries and an above average French onion soup. Sorry, but t was not as good as what they serve in France, but......Ah yes, the Hotel Intercontinental at 2 Rue du Castiliogne! The other reviewers commented on slow service and/or lacking service. This was a Sun at 1:00 and Da Bearz were on later on Sunday PM football. The place was half full (I am the optimist!). It is a hard 4 star in my mind. I like the sports bar theme and I'd like to be there when it is loud and crazy.
PS. I have been to the Schaumburg location, and I don't recall the fervor there over Chikn fingers. -

Chicken Fingers Platter with au gratin potatoes and a pint of beer for $16 including tip! Wow, talk about a great deal!
It's your standard restaurant/pub with TVs. The service is good & very friendly, the food is pretty good & you get a lot of bang for your buck.
Really, you do get a lot for your money when it comes to the food.
The food portions here are rediculously HUGE. Seriously, the chicken fingers should be called chicken arms they're so huge! Last time I was here, my friends ordered the nachos, they are basicly a mountain of nachos on a plate--don't make the mistake of ordering these unless you have at least three other people there to help you work your way through them!
Back to the Chicken Fingers Platter. They're dipped in a batter & fried, but not to the point where the batter is too crunchy and the chicken starts to dry out. These Chicken Fingers are cooked just right: crispy & golden on the outside and juicy on the inside. They normally come with fries, but I opted to try the au gratin potatoes which were just okay--the cheese sauce wasn't really a sauce, there were some clumps of cheese in there.
Anyway, I'm A-OK with the laid back atmosphere, friendly service, and the mountains of food at the Village Tavern. It's a good place to grab a drink & a bite to eat with some friends.

Good burgers, nachos, fries, etc. However, this place can be so loud and boisterous (at dinner) that you can't carry on a conversation. It is home-away-from-home to a bunch of people who are either nearly deaf or simply congenitally loudmouthed. My advice is to go at lunch, get a table (not a booth) so you are not TOO close to the loud talkers, and sit somewhere where you can't see the kitchen - that way you'll not realize how long your food sits under the warmers before your waitress finally realizes it's there...

Came here with my daughter for dinner yesturday.
Awesome! I had the rueben which was excellent! The turtle cheesecake was a diabetic's dream.
My daughter had the chicken taco salad in the tortilla bowl. So big she can eat it for a week. -

Best place in the area for a Friday night fish fry! It's not a dried out piece of fish that has been sitting around all day. Oh no, the cod here is never overcooked or greasy. The perfect combo of flavor and freshness. And the portions are enormous. It's "All U Can Eat" but unless you're hungry, it's hard pressed to finish one plate. Though I have been known to ask for more.
The fish fry sides are also good. The ancestral Southern woman in me loves some hushpuppies and they're okay here. Not the greatest but I appreciate the effort. Even with that, I usually order more hushies on the side. The coleslaw is also good and crunchy. Though you have to request to the waitress you want it or be left coleslaw-less.
Did I mention the Chicken Fingers? Believe the hype! It's about a half foot of chicken in each strip. Once again, they're not dried out but rather the juiciest, most tender and delicious chicken around. Add in the honey mustard sauce and you're in heaven. You can also go BBQ or Buffalo too. We usually do a split order of BBQ and regular chicken and they're awesome.
The couple problems lie in the service and parking. Service can be really slow, especially on refills. The waitresses are nice but don't expect attentive service. The parking lot can be a nightmare particularly on Friday nights. Add in snow and you're actually figuring out what's the probability of going to the DuPage County lockup down the street. Yes, it's that bad so get there early.
Overall this is a great place to grab some beer and fish or (and) chicken fingers. It can get loud but hey it's a tavern not the library. For me, I can't wait to go back and try the nacho plate that everyone has raved about. -
Review from Vince A.
I've been going to Village Tavern of both Schaumburg and Carol Stream for a number of years.
So the good:
* The Nachos rock. You could just eat that for a meal with a group of friends. It's huge.
* Chicken Fingers are typically good, but you will need to stay away from eating these on Friday's - I find they use the same oil for the fish fry and well, you can complete the sentence.
* Chili Cheese Burger will talk behind your back later but it's a great burger (and huge)
* Good selection of draft beers
The not so good
* The place does get busy so service does get spotty.
* Fish fry mentioned above (Not a fan of the fish fry in general) -

I've been coming to VTG for years. The chicken fingers and finger mustard are amazing. You can't come here and not have them. The huge nachos are also good.
Service is a crapshoot, like other reviewers said. Also, this place is always FREEZING for some reason, so bring a jacket.Listed in: No Colonel Here

Greasy goodness! I ate some chicken fingers from this place recently, and OMG, so good! However, if greasy food bothers you, I wouldn't try it. They came with some honey mustard sauce for dipping, which was fabu!
All in all, a great meal. I will definitely go back to try other things. -

I've been going to this place for years, and I have to say I've never really seen a dead night, it's always busy.
I have not had a bad thing on the menu yet, I'm slowly trying to try it all, but when the chicken fingers and nachos oh so good, it's difficult. The portions are HUGE you get a good bang for your buck.
The only negative thing I have to say about this place is they don't ever seem to have a beer special, but after eating the food it hardly seems to matter. -

Wow. Now that is some goooood honey mustard sauce!
The chicken fingers my new guilty pleasure. It is crispy, tasty and huge! Even when splitting it with my son, I couldn't come close to finishing it. I have my eye on the turkey sandwich for next time. I figure its a healthier way to get a mouthful of that yummy honey mustard sauce!
Tip: If you bring the leftovers home, stick the chicken fingers in the oven, not the micro. They will come out damn near as good as when you had them in the restaurant. -

Carol Stream, IL
If you have lived in Wisconsin for any period of time, then you know what to expect from a good Friday fish fry, and in the Chicago suburbs, that's about as rare as a sexy woman at Neverland ranch. At Village Tavern, however, I have found a very good version of the good old Catholic excuse for going out to eat.
The fish is cooked perfectly, not too greasy like at some places. If I didn't know better, I'd swear they kidnapped the cook from my all-time favorite Fish Fry at Bent's Camp in Land-o-Lakes, Wisconsin. It's all you can eat, but they bring you so much on the first plate that I almost always need a doggie bag. They throw in some hush puppies, too, which is a nice touch.
My only beef (pardon the pun) is that the fish fry is served with your choice of soup or salad. What?! Salad?! There's no vegetables allowed at a Fish Fry!! You want vitamins? That's what the orange slice in your brandy old-fashioned is for!!
Oh, and I've eaten a lot of the other stuff on the menu, too, and I have no complaints there. Everyone else is right on; the chicken fingers are great. They let you mix the kinds, too, so don't be afraid to order the plain, the buffalo, AND the barbeque all on the same plate.
Village Tavern also has loads of reasonably priced, better-than-average appetizers. It's a great place to go if you just want some potato skins or nachos and a drink or two.
If you are from Carol Stream, you have to check out all of the memorabilia on the walls from the village's early days, including a portrait of Carol Stream herself (yes, she is a real person, still alive to this day). If you happen to live in the original part of CS, check out the old ads for its first subdivision. Go ahead, cry in your beer. That little ranch that you plopped down $220,000 for last year could have been purchased in 1958 for $16,000. Of course (as your father will remind you), that's when a man made $75.00 a week and felt damn lucky at that. -

I really enjoy when I get to go to the Village Tavern. I like the atmosphere, I like the food and I like the food again. I've never had anything here that wasn't good.
If you go here, you must get chicken fingers. The chicken fingers at the Village Tavern would be the forearms of a chicken if the average chicken finger is a finger. They're large, meaty and best of all delicious. Plus the honey mustard (I'm normally not a fan) is really great. I also highly suggest the nachos, but bring friends since they're also quite large.
The only downside to this place is that if it's busy, the parking situation sucks. If there were better parking, it'd be a 5-star easy. -

Meh.
I came here for some food and a beer while on a business trip. It was your average looking bar with TVs. As other people have said, the service was not great. Took me about ten minutes to get a beer. I must say, the waitresses did look busy, but in those ten minutes I didn't even get so much as a "we'll be right with you".
For food I got the chicken enchilada soup and steak fajitas. The soup tasted like it was from a cafeteria. I know that sounds bad, but it really isn't all bad! It was kind of nostalgic. The steak fajitas somehow lacked flavor in every ingredient component. Just not very good.
I should have gotten the chicken tenders everyone was raving about. I just couldn't bring myself to eating a bunch of fried chicken with fried potatoes on the side.
Maybe I came on an off day, but I was unimpressed. -

My wife and I stopped in the night before Thanksgiving. Service was very good, drinks were ordered very quickly and delivered shortly thereafter. I ordered the Pot Roast which came with salad, sides where mashed potatoes and sliced carrots. My wife had a Juanita wrap with french fries. Her comment was how large the wrap was as well as being very good. Fries were homemade and really fresh. My only negative would be they did not put gravy on the Pot Roast, I had to ask for it. Also did not serve any kind of roll or bread with this entree.
Overall a nice experience. If we are ever in this area again we will stop in. -

Village Tavern (VT) of Carol Stream is a great meeting point between my friend (who lives in Batavia) and I (I live in Hanover Park). Everything others said is totally true. Their chicken fingers with honey mustard sauce is THE best ever! Anywhere! Hands down! Not at all like the pizza place in Dundee my friend and I once went to and asked for honey mustard and (I kid you not), the guy brought us a plate of honey and another plate of mustard and told us to mix them together. Seriously?? Anyways....I'm actually going to VT in CS tonight! Can't wait! Love it there....and yes, the parking can be somewhat crowded, depending on what night you go, but it's worth it for those chicken fingers!

My husband and I have eaten here many times and have yet to be disappointed. One of our secrets though is to go during slow periods and never during "a game". After reading the other reviews and complaints about service I suspect that is why we have never had waitress problems :)
Our favorite food items would have to be the chicken fingers, shrimp quesadillas, nachorama, and fish fry. Their specials we have tried have been very good too. Last one we had was a shepherds pie to die for. The portions are pretty generous which makes the cost quite reasonable.
Be warned the "diablo" items on the menu are described as simply cajun but they actually mean is "lucifer was here". Very, very spicy.
My absolute favorite thing about this place is the beverages. Bloody Mary's, and Long Island Ice Teas, huge, strong, and tasty. No watering down in this establishment.Listed in: Favorites

Review from Mary J.
I had a nice lunch here, which could have been nicer except for the loud mouthed lady sitting nearby. She kept going on and on about how she didn't want to have kids and she was dining with a friend and her 2 kids! I also heard all about her car accident and how her job was going. I just wanted to tell her to shut up! Who knows how many other people could hear her because she was so LOUD!
Anyway, I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, chargrilled and hubby had the famous chicken fingers. My sandwich was nice and moist and SPICY! Sometimes buffalo chicken is chicken with a little pepper on it, but this was the real McCoy! The chicken fingers were moist with a great batter on them and yes, they are just as good as the other reviewers say.
This isn't a fancy place, it almost has a dive bar atmosphere. You can smell the leftover smoke from the days when you could smoke in a restaurant and they were playing some 70s type music like Allman Brothers and Yes. I think I heard some AC/DC music too.
I would bring my kids here because they are older, but unless your kid can happily be held hostage in a high chair, I don't think this is a good place for them. As other reviewers said, the service is kind of sketchy and that can be problematic with little ones. If you kid gets antsy, there isn't anywhere to take them to walk around and there's no back room that you can request to sit in away from the hustle and bustle. They also don't provide any crayons and paper like some of the other places do.
So remember, the name of the place has TAVERN in it and think about that before bringing the little ones! -

I ate here during the week for lunch. Service was attentive and spot on. However the Roasted Turkey Sandwich was cold, clumpy and salty. The honey mustard everyone raves about was good, but since I was so disappointed in the taste of the turkey, it was hard to find something special with the "finger lickin mustard sauce."
The place was pretty busy at lunch time, so seems something right is going on here. I hear the Friday Fish Fry is definitely worth coming back for. -

We ordered the chicken fingers for our kids, which were really good. The best chicken fingers I have ever had! And the sauce was great!
Unfortunately, we ordered the fish dinners, and the fish and fries were super greasy! Really greasy. However, the fish didn't have a huge amount of breading on it, which is always a plus. The hushpuppies were kinda dried out, and they forgot to give us the coleslaw.
I would probably go back, just for the chicken. Probably not the fish, as the amount of grease it soaked up was sickening. -

My stars are for the Chicken Fingers. The service is usually a crapshoot.
This place was recommended to me on the basis of a couple of people looking at me with this wide eyed face and said, "This place has the best Chicken Fingers you will ever have in your whole life."
Not ever missing a challenge, I took my cynical ass over to the VTG with my taste testers, a 5 and 3 year old.
Long story short, if we can get here once a week....we do.
BEST CHICKEN FINGERS EVER.
