Probably the best pizza I have had for a long time
Pasta is very good, so is the "pizza" bread that comes with it.

We make it a priority to eat here anytime we are in Truckee.

We're vacationing at Donner Ranch and on our last night, we were lookin' for a pizza restaurant to dine with the kids, have a beer, a couple of pies and nice atmosphere.
Well, I must say that we were very satisfied and happy with our experience. We ordered a stuffed crust veggie pizza that was great. Excellent crust, and the way the veggies remained crispy while cooking was great. With some red pepper flakes added by us, this pizza was fantastic. We also ordered a mini Aloha pizza, which was regular crust,  bbq sauce, cheese, chicken, pineapple and macadamia nuts. This pizza was tasty too.. Again, really enjoyed the crust. Also ordered a regular crust cheese pizza and a kids pasta with red sauce and meatballs. The kids ate the all the pasta and meatballs and most of the cheese pizza. If there was one complaint, the cheese pie came out a bit on the well done side. If it was any more well done, I would have sent it back.

Service was fine too.. Not amazing, but not bad. The place was very busy for a Tuesday nite without snow! I will definitely eat here again when in the area and looking for pizza.

Pizza was OK, but I loved the garlicky caesar dressing here on the caesar salad.  It's also a hefty portion--enough for 3, and comes with buttery garlic bread.  I was already full before our wings and pizza arrived.

The wings here are baked, which is nice.  They are crispy, without the grease of fried wings.  The sauce is a sweet and spicy sauce--reminded me of a sweet and sour sauce with extra heat.

I would probably order a smaller pizza and pig out on the caesar salad.  And I'd ask for the wings dry.

Not impressed. Yelp let me down this time. My husband actually said it reminded him of Chuck E Cheese pizza. It was overpriced for a less than average tasting pie. The place was empty but the waiters were nice and attentive. All we had was pizza, maybe they have other things that made reviewers happy.

    Place is... Meh.

Pizza wasn't anything special at all.

Not to knock the employees... they were great. But the pizza? Not that great.

I WOULD suggest going here for the pesto "chips"... which is pretty much a cheese pizza topped with pesto. Best thing I've had in the place. Get this instead of any of the pizza if you're here.

Also... when I bought a slice at Truckee Thursdays (an event that runs in the summer in downtown Truckee)... I could've sworn it was Costco pizza they were serving.

It's time to rethink your recipes Village... I only write these types of reviews to let you know you can do better. I'm not a self proclaimed elitist "foodie" either. But there are better places in Truckee... don't get comfortable with what you got. Always push to be better than your competition. Step your game up.

Good Pizza (not the best I've had by any means though) the wings are baked and not deep fried and I liked that. The toppings are generous  My only complaints are the price and the fact that the appetizers do not come out before the main dish.
I was expecting terrible service from previous reviews but our waitress  just seemed new and she was very pleasant and went out of her way to as a server.

We came here several months ago after a fun filled day in the snow.
We were the ONLY family in there(it was superbowl sunday) which was great because it meant that we got awesome service.
The pizza was AMAZING, and we ate all of it! it was a pretty large pizza, and I felt a little guilty for eating so much of it,but I couldnt just let it go to waste! I also ordered a pretty amazing salad, all in all, it was one of the best pizza experiences that Ihave had in a really long time. Just wish I could eat it more often, but it has become a more of a go to the snow and eat here type of place.

Why do people go to restaurants? Is it only the food? Is it the ambiance? The service? If its only the food and the taste you crave - the place is alright.

But if you trust that you deserve a good service, and some attention, and respect - This place sucks.

Consider this - we enter the place around 7 PM, the place is half empty. We were given one sheet of paper and one Tabasco tin filled with crayons for our 4 and 2 year old. We order quickly and simply an iced tea, a soda, 2 apple juices, a pasta, and a pizza - after dropping our drinks, the server vanished and for the next 30 minutes, was nowhere to be seen!

When she did arrive it was to tell us that "Your order ... OH MY GOD!" - the shock was at my kids scribbling on their super precious tables with the crayons they provided. "Could they please not write on the table!" she said trying to clean them with her hands "These were just recently finished and its hard to clean the colors off them!" and then she ran in and brought some papers.

So here's the thing: These are *crayons*. That *you* provided. To a *2 year old*. If you can't clean the crayons off your precious table - what do you guys do when some coffee spills on them or wrong edge of some cutlery falls on them? Run like a screaming train through the restaurant?

Nevertheless I tell my kids that the tables have germs and try not to touch them ...

Do notice that the sentence that was left hanging - was abandoned. The waitress again ran off somewhere for the next 15 minutes. My best guess - grief counseling.

The food arrives finally and tastes good - I have to give them that - however, and this is important, none of our drinks - which have long been depleted - are refilled, or offered to be refilled. And no one bothers to stop by and check how things are.

Well, the food finishes, and we spot somebody and ask for a check, and when it arrives, it has a line for "Tip" and it makes me laugh. I'm tempted to put in "-20%" amount there but I'm not sure if that works, so I put in a "ZERO - for poor service" and leave it at that.

I don't write many reviews but I felt compelled to write about this place after my family's visit this past Labor Day Weekend. We tried this place because all the reviews were so positive.

I have to say, if it wasn't for one kind act by our server, I would give it "1 star". What gives this place "2 stars" is our server was kind enough to give our 5y.o. daughter a taste of cranberry juice to see if she would like it before she ordered. She went out of her way to do that nice favor.

Outside of this, the experience was bad. The waitress forgot to give my wife her salad. My wife ordered a green salad without the cheese and ranch dressing. All the minute details showed up on our bill except the salad on our table and we didn't pay for it. My wife really wanted that salad.

The pepperoni deep dish was terrible and extremely overpriced for what we got. When I think deep dish, I think Chicago-style pizza which I love from Old Chicago Pizza in Petaluma, Ca.This was just thicker crusted regular pizza which wasn't even very good at all. The sauce was too sweet and the combination of grease from the cheese, pepperoni and buttered crust made for a gastro-intestinal roller coaster in my stomach to which I'm just recovering.

To be fair, my daughter's cheese pizzeta seemed like it could have been good from the bite I took but I'm not willing to ever go back when I visit and find out.

A secret kept by the locals. Reason being that most tourists will drive right by the place, because it really does not have much external presence or appeal. The Sign just says "Pizzeria" and seems to have a letter or two out more often than not.  Do not let this fool you.

Inside awaits some of the best Italian food in the area. The pizza is good, but the pasta dishes are incredible. The bar is well stocked and the service is always wonderful.

A neat little feature is that you can actually look into the kitchen while they are cooking provides some nice entertainment.

It is a wonderful place for a Date Night. The interior looks very nice, and the prices are mid range though cheap for the area. If the place had a view, the price could easily be doubled.

Worth a shot, get there early on Friday night otherwise there will be a wait.

Whenever I'm in the area for a snow trip, whether I'm staying in Reno or Truckee, this place is never disappointing. It's great for groups, pizza is always the more affordable option, and it's fulfilling!
After spending the day on the slopes I don't want  a prissy meal. I want carbs! I need carbs! I need to reload on energy, after falling on my butt 83204983 times I think I deserve it.
It's nice and cozy inside. Service has been good the times I've been here. I just stick to the pizza, they have an amazing selection of specialty pizzas and toppings. You can't find something you won't like here.
Yes it's a bit pricey, but so is everything in this area, isn't it? Plus, huge servings, it's worth it.
I have to come here to make my snow trip feel complete. With out it, I feel like I'm missing something. Tahoe is my boyfriend and this place is my secret lover. They go hand in hand.

This place is probably one of the best spots in Truckee. There are other places to get pizza, but this one provides the best service and offers the best food. If you do not like generic corporate pizza, this is the place to go.

Pros: Pizza is of good quality and ingredients are fresh.

Cons: This place is expensive. Expect to spend around 25-30 bucks per person.

Came here for lunch after a trip to Reno, NV. The place was not that packed however there were about 4-5 families having lunch with ONE server. Yikes! We got seated and ordered our food. I had the Stromboli Pizza, other people ordered the Calzone, pesto chips, and my fiancee ordered the "Mikey Likes It!".

The Stromboli was really good, wished I ordered in a large or medium because it came out as a personal size pizza. My fiancee did not enjoy his pizza much. I tried a slice and was not impressed. The pizza was a bit bland and disappointing. As we were receiving our pizzas, we requested stuff like ranch and refills on our waters and drinks. The ranch took forever and finally the server came and dropped one off one ranch for our friend but forgot about mine. I reminded her that I needed ranch too and she gave this annoying look at me. Another mishap was they forgot to put pepperoni in one of the pizzas.

Overall, this place was okay but need to work on their customer service and hire more people. They were so short staff that day, the kitchen staff had to come out and drop off the pizzas to the customers.

When I lived in the area, I would occasionally take my staff here for dinner. We called it "the Yuppie Pizza Place" because I could never remember the name of the place (and it was full of yuppies.) They were the only down side. Visitors to the town tend to be urban, pushy and rude, but that's what life is like in a tourist town.

Over the years, I've probably had most of what is on the menu. It's all good. Yuppie enough to be interesting, but not quite pretentious. I'm a particular fan of the garlic chips, a thin pizza crust with diced garlic, a bit of oil and cheese, baked and diced as an appetizer. Garlic chips and a salad are a great dinner for me.

The staff is pretty good and patient, considering the rush that comes at sunset, particularly in the winter. I think that the ambience is better in the summer when the tourist load isn't quite as high in the area, but I'll eat there winter or summer.

As far as taste goes this place is 4 stars, but the prices, the prices! This pizza joint is more expensive than any pizza I've had in downtown San Francisco- there is something wrong with that.
For $26 you can get a specialty pizza which is really tasty but be prepared to shell out the cash.
We also ordered a side salad that was nothing more than lettuce, 4 pieces of tomato, 5 croutons and some cheese on top- $6.
I would probably come back for the pizza I just think that it is overpriced.

For being located right smack in the middle of a tourist trap, the village pizzeria delivers unsurpassed quality that is hard to find even in serious "foody" areas! The portions are huge and the selection is massive! This is pizza the way it should be, absolutely covered in cheese and toppings! They are definitely not stingy here. I tried the chicken salad and the hot wings and the pizza with everything! Even after I was painfully full I couldn't stop eating. I spent the next few hours patiently waiting to be hungry again so I could eat some more wings! I have been thinking about this place ever since. The only real downfall is that the prices are pretty steep but considering that it is in a tourist trap, it really is a small price to pay for the portions and quality. The service is friendly but a bit slow, again, expected considering the area. I'm still having dreams about this place. It will be a permanent pit stop on all future visits! Love it :)

Great friendly service and delicious pizza pies can be found at this local establishment. Great beer list as well (fat tire, red nectar, racer 5 IPA...). We ordered the caramelized apple salad and a deep dish pizza with cornmeal crust and sweet sauce. Loved the crust-gooey and airy. Probably would have preferred regular sauce. Reheats well for breakfast the next day. I'd go back to try their other pizzas!

Plan for good pizza, bad service.

We stopped in here to pick up pizza after a long hike, thanks to the positive Yelp reviews. But the 25 minute wait ended up an hour, with them telling us "just another minute" every five minutes.

While waiting, I scrolled down Yelp's reviews and finally found the bad ones--all about the service. Wish I had seen those earlier.  The food is alright, even great after hiking. But the service was bad. 5 mins late is okay. 30 mins late means you screwed up the order.

If that happens, admit it, take your lumps, give someone a beer, and keep a customer. They didn't.

so here we were, stranded in Truckee, unable to get to our condo at Donner Ski Resort because of a guy who thought he was invincible in his SUV and ended up blocking the driveway. We had to spend the night at a hotel and turned to Yelp! For a place to eat. Read all the reviews and decided to try out The Village Pizzeria. It was buried by the snow banks but thankfully open. Very friendly staff and great food. A large dish of Chicken Catchatorie and a pitcher of Sierra Nevada settled all the frustrations. The food was great and the server was very friendly and attentive. The negatives in some reviews were not seen so maybe they came on a bad night or they have too high expectations, Truckee is not The City.

Didn't get to the condo until 2pm the next day due to the storm and Hwy 80 closure.

We will defiantly come back next time in Truckee, hopefully not in the same circumstances.

I really don't like giving such a low rating to a small business, but I was so turned off by the terrible service that we received that I will not go back.

We have a vacation home in Truckee, and have enjoyed dinner here a couple of times in the past, the service has never been stellar, but on the previous occasions, they were busy, so I cut them some slack.

Not this time.  We were there on a Wednesday night, there were only 6-7 tables filled.  Our server was took our order then disappeared, my husband had to get up to go find her after we waited 20 minutes, wanting to order another beer.  She was sitting on her tush chitchatting with another server.  He apologized for interrupting her break, (which she incidentally was not on).

We hoped she would snap to it, but after bringing the beer she disappeared again.  Busser had to track her down to help us again, no water refills, rudeness...
Basically she took our order and dumped us, never checking in with us unless we went looking for her, and never apologized or explained her absence.

I can tolerate mediocre service if the food is exceptional, but this place is not.

We took out four regular crust pizzas from Village Pizzeria while staying at Squaw... and our large group was pretty consistent in rating the pizza "okay."

Most noticeably, the pizzas had the widest crust I have ever seen -- some slices were majority crust -- and when you're traveling with a bunch of little kids, extra crust is not typically a plus.  I was on dish duty that night, and am sad to say that I tossed a lot more crust than I would have liked (caveat: I did eat mine, mom, I promise!).

Based on that experience alone, I would be tempted to go for Round Table or another chain next time.  That said, I do see all the other raving reviews here for the deep dish -- so now I'm thinking perhaps we just mis-ordered.

So good, I can't stress that enough.

If you are ever in a bind in the Truckee/Tahoe area, come here. If you don't like pizza, go to that little taqueria in the corner of a small strip mall near a laundry mat (right down the road from ace)...I can never remember their name though. If you don't like Mexican...I don't like you....

I was in a snowstorm last weekend on Friday, headed to Squaw, and while we were on the pass, we decided to call here and order to-go...

We got the deep dish stromboli...wow...one piece and I was full!  I ate two pieces however, and probably had enough sausage to feed an entire family.

The greek salad was also good, they did forget the dressing (I asked for it on the side...)...whatever, there was enough going on that I didn't really need it. Pretty standard though, you go there for the pizza, not the salad.

I have been coming to Village for years...I had one of my first double dates here when I was 15!  So many good pizza memories...I will always recommend this place :)

This place doesn't scream "life-altering meal" at first approach, but it delivers a decent plate of food.

When we first arrived there was a  bit of a wait?  Yes, that means we went to the bar.  They have a few bars on tap, and a  tall glass of Downtown Brown hit the spot for me. Some others in  my party had a flight or two of red/white wine.  They seemed satisfied.

We got a table, albeit a bit small for a group of seven.  Anyway, I wasn't feeling pizza that night (I know, weird), wasn't digging any of the regular pasta selections, so it's "hello, specials".  The Artichoke and Spinach Ravioli caught my eye, but the artichokeness and prosciuttoness killed it for me.  So I had the Chicken Marsala.  The chicken was tender as advertised, and the vegetables and pasta were a okay.  I'm not gonna call this a health-food meal given the sauces and grease, but I suppose it could have been worse.  I didn't try any of the pizza, but the crust sure looked good.

The interior of the restaurant was pretty clean and professional.  Our server was friendly and attentive.  The portions are up there in generosity.

A solid place for Italian-based cuisine.

The food here is down-home Italian. Not fancy, just casual and hearty... the type that hits the spot after a long day.

It may sound strange, but the super massive size of the food and drink was almost a put-off. It just was too much... Americans are already overweight.
    The Food:
We ordered a pepperoni and sausage pizza and it was very good. The sausage tasted good (the right amount of spice) and the pepperoni too, was spiced well.
We asked for a light amount cheese and they really listened! That made me happy.
All around a good pizza experience.
We also ordered the Apple Salad... it was okay but nothing to write home about.
    The First time we went:
I ordered the chicken parm and it was massive. Two meals kind of massive. It was served with pasta, veggies, and a huge pizza roll. It was good and hit the spot. i would get it again.
My girlfriend ordered the Pesto which was decent but not as good as the Parm. It was lacking in something...

While the regular food was good, it is the Pizza which gives this place 4 stars. I will go here again, but will probably stick with the Pizza more than the entrees.

This place is easy to overlook in the Savemart shopping plaza. It just has a plain red sign out front that says "Pizzeria". It's very gereric looking & you might think from the outside that it's a counter style pizza joint, rather than a really nice, relatively modern place.

The entrees are HUGE. We normally split an entree & still have some to take home. The cesaer salad is unbelievable. I'm hoping someday the decide to bottle & sell it.  I get a serious craving from time to time & can't seem to find a better dressing at any other restuarant or in the grocery store. I highly recommend it!

All of the pasta dishes come with a small loaf of bread topped with delicious garlic butter.  Also amazing!

Definitely worth the stop in. Much better than the other pizza / pasta joint in Truckee, Zanos.

We sat at the table for slightly over 15 minutes. Finally, a silent, rude waiter placed 2 glasses of water on our table and walked briskly away without asking or saying anything. 10 minutes later, our drink orders were taken, and 10 minutes later our food orders were taken.

The pizza was mediocre, but there was way too much crust, and the rest was nothing to get excited about.

A large pizza is the obscene price of $22... so be prepared to pay a lot of money.

All in all, it was expensive, bad service and mediocre food.

    Skip it.

Pizza was good but service was awful. Had to wait 40 min before getting in instead of promised 5 min.
We asked the waitress for napkins and it took her forever to bring them so were very uncomfortable.
But my greatest surprise came when I looked at my credit card charges and realized that it was charged more than I authorized. Apparently the tip amount was forged. I split the bill with my friend who agreed to pay the tip which she did so I just left my receipt blank where it says "tip"  . But when I checked my credit card charges I was charged the amount I authorized plus 20% tip which I know I did not write. When I called the manager about it her attitude was very hostile and unpleasant. Just want to warn other customers.

I had the pizza and it was good, but not five stars.  I wasn't thrilled with the crust.  I'll have to check out Zano's to see which is the best pizza in Truckee.
The Caesar salad was also really good.
O.k., I checked out Zano's, go to village pizzeria if you want the best pizza in Truckee.

Great pizza in Truckee!  Staff is also nice and are longtime local residents.  In addition to good pizza they have terrific salads and sandwiches.  Good beer on tap too!

Very clean! The pizza was excellent and the beer was cold. After a long hike I was in heaven. I am a clean freak so I like to look around and see how well maintained the place is kept. No dust or spiderwebs and the bathroom was spotless. The server was very friendly and informative.

The pizza was cooked to perfection. The dough was tasty and the sauce had some really good flavors. The toppings were fresh and plentiful.

We will make this a regular spot to stop during our hiking trips.

I have eaten here twice. Both times I got the same thing but I really like it :) The penne with Italian sausage. Very tasty - spicy! The bread they serve with the pasta dishes is also quite yummy!  The other people I have gone there with have gotten the pizza. Looked and smelled VERY good too. Not skimpy on the toppings at all!

This place is NOT skimpy with their portions. I had dinner and lunch from my entree. I've seen other dishes and they are all sizable. So come hungry!!

They are not super-duper fast. So don't come here if you are in a hurry. I've only come in winter-time as the food is pretty heavy. But it's great post-winter sports when you are cold and starving. They also have a decent selections of wines by the bottle and glass. The service was fairly slow in general both times I've come but they were nice.

It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the inside is nicer (big booths and tables) and the food is great. I recommend you try it when hungry and feel like some good, hearty Italian food.

    Very good deep dish pizza.

The regular pizza isn't very good, because there isn't much sauce. The deep-dish has a lot of sweet, tangy sauce, which makes the pizza. The toppings are very fresh too and they heap them on.

Pitchers of beer available as well.

Had dinner the other with family after skiing all day and WOW!!  Great place. Pizza's are big, tasty, and about $20 bucks or so for a large. Feed about 5 people and it was quaility pizza. Service was great. I will be back again. Great family place.

Some of the better pizza I've eaten in recent memory.  I got mine to go, but the establishment itself has a great feel to it - very homey.

Had the Quattro Formaggio with sauce, and was not dissapointed even though I had to drive all the way back to Sugar Bowl and then over the gondola.  The crust had a great doughy consistency and the sauce and cheeses were delicious.

You know how like, different pizzas have a different feel to them? like sometimes they're just not that well put together?  Well Village Pizzeria's pizza was internally consistent.  All the pieces fit together really well.  I recognize that this is a crude description of the essential quality of a piece of pizza, but that's how I felt about it.  Indeed.
