Cant say how great my experience was at Village Pizza.  My takeout order was a Godfather Panini (very yummy), garlic bread (also very good) and a side Greek Salad (lots of 'stuff' in it, very tasty).  The staff was very polite and I couldn't be disappointed in any way.  Once I got the food home, i scarfed it down in about 10 minutes and wished I had more.

Give it a shot -- but beware, Carroll Street is narrow and parking sucks.

Everyone I know makes such a big deal about this place, but when we ate there last night I was anything but impressed.
Nothing was completely wrong or bad, but nothing was really right or great either. Everyone else I went with enjoyed their food, but they also got larger servings than I did. My boyfriend and I both ordered calzones, his with spinach and chicken and mine with just chicken. Yet, despite him only paying .75 more for his, he got a calzone TWICE the size of mine.
The dough they use is also very...bland. I'm a pizza dough connoisseur - that's a big reason why I love calzones, because there's plenty of yummy dough to go with all that cheese and sauce. But their dough - and trust me, my calzone was at least 50% dough and not much else - doesn't really have much of a taste. It'd be different if I ordered a slice with lots of strong toppings and it was drowned in the sauce (which was also kind of bland), but one of the big draws to pizza for me is a good crust.
I wasn't unhappy to the point to ask for a refund, but I was very close. I don't think I'd eat here again.

I use to love Village Pizza. I loved to come here and eat in--we'd always order a pizza with spinach, mushrooms, onions, and banana peppers. Perfect!

After a long hiatus from visiting Cabbagetown, boy and I decided to come down here Friday night. I already had in mind what I wanted, a yummy panini. We initially noticed how empty it was in the restaurant and I assume they're receiving a majority of their income from deliveries. I mean, it was  a Friday night!

I ordered the veggie panini with a side salad and my boy got the meatball sub with chips. My salad came first and it was really yummy, how can you screw up a salad? But it came with, what I think to be, homemade greek and feta dressing that was really yummy!!
Dinner went downhill when I got my sandwich. Or should I say, when I FINALLY got my sandwich. It was a long ass wait. My sandwich looked delicious. It was served on a tomato focaccia and it had three different types of cheese and a slew of veggies in between.

Now, for anyone who knows me and my absolute LOVE for veggie sandwiches and CHEESE, this will be an absolute shock! The cheese made the sandwich revolting. It was just too strong and the other tastes were also really strong...nothing about this sandwich was minimal or simple. Actually, it was kinda revolting. And since when can cheese ruin something?? The only thing I will say is that the pesto mayo that came with the panini was really yummy.
So if you go and order mayo and dressing..you're set!

Otherwise, go to Camelli's.

This place always seems so forlorn inside.  I hardly ever see anyone inside.. I hope everyone is getting delivery since I would like some food spots to stay in Ctown.  Slices are huge, as they should be since they are about $5 a pop. I thought the greek was much better than the veg. Guess you veggie eaters don't have a choice though, unless you want to request pesto on the veg. Pizza crust is very thin.  Greek salad is a'ight.  For $8 I can get a huge slice and a salad.  Can't beat that.  Well I guess you could if it was $5 for both.

I ordered my first and last pizza from here the other day and received a totally burnt pizza.  Slices ranged from unpleasantly dry and crispy to totally charred and carcinogenic.  I was amazed that someone actually pulled this out of the oven and decided it was fine to serve to a customer.  Even if this burnt pizza was a fluke, it speaks poorly of their quality control.  If you order a take out pizza from here, check it before taking it home!

Not as good as I had hoped. A little doughy and the pizza's drowning in tomato sauce. I don't think any of these people have ever been to Italy and eaten pizza there.

This used to be the best pizza spot in Atlanta in my opinion.  It's gone completely downhill.  It's lost its character, and it's definitely lost its touch when it comes to the food.

I miss you, Village Pizza.

While at work today I decided to browse Yelp for tasty vegan food that someone would deliver to my doorstep the minute I got home from work.  I needed food immediately and Village Pizza was my savior!

I ordered the vegan pizza and it was pretty damned good.  It could have used a little more sauce and veggies but I can't complain about the amount of soy cheese and meat on it.  It actually kind of freaked me out because the meat tasted pretty real.  The pizza was also at my house in 20 minutes, which seems to be an impossible feat for my local Papa Johns.

I have yet to actually dine at this restaurant, but my first experience with their food today was pretty impressive.  I will definitely be ordering that pizza again!

breaks my heart to do this, but its just nowhere near what it used to be.  Sauce is too sweet, slices are smaller, crust tougher...and the prices have gone up.

I miss the old Village.

The old Village Pizza was one my #1 favorite pizza place in town, but sadly is no more. Out with the old, in with the new. They still make a pretty good pizza, and your vegan friends will appreciate the extensiveness of their ingredient selection.

However, the place doesn't have the same feel as before. It doesn't feel as in-character with the neighborhood, I guess. The music always seems pretty bland these days, but you used to hear some interesting stuff on the speakers there. Not that things automatically have to be quirky and offbeat and weird just because they're in Cabbagetown.. but that's the reason a lot of people are drawn to the neighborhood.

I've always been jealous of cities like New York and Chicago where a vegan slice of pizza is not terribly hard to come by. Little did I know that right here in my backyard of Atlanta I had access to great vegan pizza by the slice or a whole pie.

Village Pizza Co. ( 186 Carroll St., Atlanta, GA 30312) , nestled in the heart of the Cabbage Town district of Atlanta, has an excellent assortment of vegan ingredients including soy based vegan cheese, vegan sausage, vegan beef and vegan pepperoni in addition to just about any other type of veggie you like on your pizza. The prices are low and the slices are huge. For me one slice of the Village Vegan Supreme Pizza (pictured above with vegan cheese, vegan sausage, vegan pepperoni, vegan beef olives, bell peppers and onions) is more than a meals worth.

Oh the neighborhood is a changin.  Village pizza, despite it's ultimate (original) demise, was definitely one of my favorite Pizza shops in town.  There's something precious about a hip fringe pizza place that's always packed with babbling little ones in their super-small vans and their probably-an-art-director-or-fashion-designer parents.

That was the old.  Now for the new.

I put in a call over the weekend to order 2 pies and was told to drop by in 45 minutes.  Fair enough - delivery doesn't start until 5:00.  I pull up and miraculously find parking on always-busy Carroll Street.  The new place is almost all white, Ikea furniture intact, with more staid artwork on the walls.

I waited at the counter for 5 minutes (seriously) while the one attendant was washing utensils.  The place was dead. Not a soul in there.  I noticed that nearly half the menu was papered over so either ingredients aren't available or they are streamlining the menu.  I also noticed that a few of the taps were "dry".  My friend works in the distrib industry and told me "if you notice that someone has run out of beer and it's not a busy night its because they don't have cash available to get another keg".

Anyway, the pizza was ready so i grabbed it to returned home to keep watching football.  The food has definitely lost some quality.  The dough seems to be the same but ingredients, including the sauce, didn't seem to be of the same quality and taste.  I remember plump ham and juicy pineapple on my Hawaiian pizzas there and these were little nibblets as if from a can or bag.

Anyway, i'm sad to think they are struggling but did walk by later that night on my way to Milltown and noticed there was a decent crowd.  Maybe i just caught them at a bad time.

Give them a shot - GP needs a pizza place that delivers "to the hood" as others have put it.

It's been a while since I had a good tuna melt, so I decided to head out to Village Pizza today... I figured it's been a while, and hopefully they got their act together.

Disappointment.

First off, a good 6-12 items of the old menu were unavailable. This included the tuna melt. Great... Apparently they don't like wasting the ingredients, and not enough people ordered it. I guess I understand that, but why show the old menu, if you can't serve the old menu???

Decided on the chicken parm instead. Bread still sucks. I don't know who the bread purveyor was for when the OG Village Pizza was around, but they need to link back up.

Sloppy, and I can't think of a reason to go back again.

When a coworker told me about a pizza place in Cabbagetown where you could get a vegan "meat" supreme pizza, my first reaction was, "get OUT." Mellow Mushroom had long been the place I went for this, using tempeh as a sausage substitute.

Last night we called in a pick-up order & built our own - soy cheese/ pepperoni/ sausage, & added onions & sundried tomatoes. A straight shoot down Boulevard, it's about a five minute drive from us. Chris left & shortly after, called me as he was headed back home. All he had to say was to yell, "this sh*t smells GOOD!"

It was one of those eat-until-you're-about-to-puke meals. Best vegan pizza I've ever had.

Okay, so my four-star rating is conditional: it is based on delivery and some very exact instructions for reheating Village Pizza's pies.

We've never sat down there to eat, but we have ordered delivery.  I honestly think they're trying to figure that aspect of running a pizza joint out, but they will eventually get it right.

45 minutes isn't really that long to wait for an independently-owned pizza place...we've been conditioned by Domino's and Papa John's that we should always get pizzas delivered within 30 minutes--and those two pizza chains are complete crap.  30 minutes is just a silly expectation for a hand-crafted bit of delivered food.

The trade-off?  Quality, quality, quality.

So here's the secret to a great Village Pizza.
1) Order your pie...expect it to be there in about 50 minutes.
2) With about 10 minutes left in this countdown, preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
3) Be nice to the delivery guys...they don't yet know what they're doing.  They'll get it in a few months.
4) Bake your pie on the LOWER RACK for EXACTLY eight minutes...not seven, not nine.
5) Enjoy a really incredible pizza.

If you arrive at Village Pizza and are hesitant to go in because it's empty, don't worry. Most people order takeout or get delivery because despite the cool location and look of the pizza joint, the music is usually blaring so loudly that if you stay, you might get confused and think you're at a rave. Not necessarily a bad thing but if you want to speak to your dinner companions, you may prefer a quieter location, say the Cabbagetown Park down Kirkwood Avenue.

Music aside and takeout in your hand, the pizza is not bad. What it is, however, is hit or miss. But when the sauce is not too sweet or applied too liberally to the pizza - so much so that the crust becomes a soggy mess - it is great. The freshest ingredients are used, most noticeable in the veggie slice when the green bell pepper lightly crunches in your mouth. And that is another great thing - they don't overcook the veggies (occasionally they are undercooked...) which makes them crisp and crunchy.

I wouldn't make a special trip but if you live in the neighborhood or find yourself in the area for other reasons, definitely try it. A note to the wise, call in your order but pick it up yourself. Delivery takes forever!

Ok. soooooo....I'm being extremely fair in giving 4 Stars, I chose to eat here purely from the reviews I saw on here. I'm not a vegan, in fact, I'm as much of a meat-a holic as one can get; but for some reason, all of the reviews on the vegan deluxe made me obsessed with wanting to try it, and when I want something I just HAVE to have it; so on the way home from work I called in an order for the large Vegan Deluxe...minus the peppers, olives, and mushrooms, with extra cheese, sauce, and spinach instead.

When I arrive to pick up my order it's pretty much dead there which one would expect being 5:20 pm. I was immediately acknowledged once I came in and my order was ready to go. I arrive home and upon opening the box I realize that my pie is kind of  bare....where's the soy pepperoni? soy sausage?soy beef? are the sparse dots of what looks like some sort of mock animal flesh sausage or beef? I called in and let them know that my order was not correct, and the cosmopolitan russian spy, or...er....the cashier/waitress asked me to please come in so they can make it right. I arrive back;  I live only 2.5 miles away so it wasn't too much of an inconvenience, I went in without the first pizza box ( I kept it in the car just in case) and the cosmopolitan russian spy tells me how sorry she is, opens the box to confirm that I'm getting what I had originally thought I was paying for, and sends me on my way with no mention of the previous pie. This time there's an abundance of mock-pepperoni, mock-sausage, and I guess mock-beef. The meat basically looks like dehydrated or otherwise day-old meat that's been hangin out at room-temperature,  yet it's quite good. I'll definitely stick to real meat in the future, but if I ever decided to become a vegan....this place would be THE place to go, and I plan on coming back for the more regular menu items.

Vegan pizza.........are you kidding me!  This is a great find if you're like me and have given up on eating cows and their many by products.  I make vegan pie at home but it is rare to find it at a pizzeria.  For you non-vegan pizza lovers, the other options looked pretty good.  They also have salad and pasta options as well as beer "on tap."

My only complaint is that you order at the front and then sit down; I didn't know this and sat without service for a little while until I asked.  Also, the "waitress" was doing kitchen prep at the table next to me.  She was hand-mixing spices into the vegan sausage....not necessarily something I want to see while I eat.  But I think I will get over this and go back; vegan pizza is hard to find.

Hell to the yeah.

Thanks to the review Chase wrote, I found out about this place and just HAD to try their vegan pizza.  I too called in a pick-up order and zoomed over there after work.

Ahead of me in line when I arrived was a tiny crackhead who had what appeared to be an irresistable urge to scratch his skin off.  He got a cup to use at the soda fountain and was on his way.  During this observation, I noticed they were (loudly) playing Black Sabbath...very cool.  Anyways, I paid for my pizza and was on my way (while being harrassed by some guys saying "hey baby, can i get a slice of yo pizza?).  I got into my car, opened the lid and there it was....the tastiest looking vegan pizza ever.  It smelled awesome, too.

We sped home, popped 'Naked Lunch' into the DVD player and devoured the pizza.  Hubby didn't like all the vegetables on it, so he flicked them back onto the plate.  (I ordered the vegan deluxe - soy sausage, soy pepperoni, soy cheese, black olives, onions and green peppers).  I thought they were delicious and enjoyed the sweet tomato sauce and crispy crust.

Definately a rad pizza place who will be getting our business from now on.  Oh, and the people seemed nice who worked there.  Could barely hear them over the music, though....but when it's Black Sabbath, who really cares what they're saying.

This is some of the best pizza in town if you ask me.
The wide variety of toppings is great, esp. the squash, zuchinni, vegan meats, all that fun stuff. The crust is delicious too.
Not to mention the price is right & the staff is nice & laidback.

This is our official pizza night pizza place. Every Tuesday we all hit this place for their delicious vegan pizza. They have every meat substitute you can think of from soysage to faux pepperoni. Not too much of a hit in the wallet either considering meat and cheese substitutes toppings generally cost at least twice as much. If you get a chance definitely hit this place up! :)

12/12/2006 update:

Don't bother ordering from here for delivery. I tried to order and I am 1 and a half miles away, straight down the street. They had their delivery driver call me back 45 minutes later and then I got hung up on while on hold. I called back and got the answering machine. These people are hittin the crack pipe. I mean come on, how hard is it to figure out and I quote:

Delivery Driver -"Where is it sir?"
Me-"You take a left on Decatur and go straight down .8 miles. It is a big tall building that says Tel-X on it. You can't miss it."
Delivery Driver-"OK, hold on."

Five minutes pass and click.... dead.

Village Pizza is a fantastic addition to the Grant Park/Cabbagetown area.  The best part - THEY DELIVER!  As other yelpers have mentioned, delivery does take a little planning because it takes about 50 minutes before you will have your pie in hand.  The only reason that I gave them 3 stars versus 4 is due to two instances of topping disappointment.  After my 50 minute wait time, I eagerly opened the box only to find that the toppings encountered some slippage during transit. This created a bit of a greasy, cheesy, mess - but who doesn't enjoy that once in awhile?

They also have stellar salads with crispy fresh veggies - which is hard to come by for a local pizza joint.  The Greek salad is divine - with
a plethora of veggies and a really tasty Mediterranean vinaigrette.

Enjoy!

After reading the positive reviews everyone else had for this place, I kept trying to figure out why I don't like this place more. I went in to it with high hopes, since any local pizza place makes me excited. I'm wondering if maybe I've caught them on bad nights or something, since every time I've gone the crust on my pizza has been like cardboard.

Don't get me wrong, it's a cool place and it definitely fills a void in Cabbagetown. It's great for people living around there to have an option other than ordering in from one of the mega chains or trekking to L5P for pizza. The interior is like the showroom at IKEA, the staff as friendly, and the prices aren't bad. I kind of regret not giving it more stars, but I can't since the crust was so sub par on more than one occasion.

Cabbagetown's little pizza joint, Village Pizza offers pizzas , pastas, subs and paninis.

Prices here are a bargain, with slices starting at $1.65 for cheese. Vegans can get soy meats and cheeses, too.  The pies were good and the crust was yummy.  Salads were about $2.50 each.  Service was friendly and quick.  Good little place that hits the spot.

***ANOTHER UPDATE: Village Pizza re-opened first week of April under new ownership (same guy from Apres Diem and Carroll Street Cafe) - same delicious menu, mostly same people, same feel, new photos on the wall.
*** UPDATE: Village Pizza closed down the week of January 7 :(

Food here is awesome - pizza is solid, fresh toppings, every soy option you could ask for, the grilled cheese kicks ass (it's 3 or 4 cheeses with basil and tomato on a pizza crust basically).  Pastas, sandwiches, entrees - all great alternatives if you're not in the mood for pizza.

The reason I can't give Village 5 stars -- they have got to have those vents fixed!  I can sit in a smoky bar all night and not be fazed, but on busy nights the entire restaurant fills with smoke from the oven.  I can't stand more than a few minutes before my eyes are all dried out and I can't stop coughing.  I know I sound like an old woman, but damn!

So I walk by to pick up food from them about once a week.  Good stuff.

Oh!  Also - fair warning, they're closed on Mondays.

I've been to Village several times now and find the staff friendly and the food decent. It's not the best pizza, pasta and sandwiches in Atlanta, but it's certainly not the worst.

I got a veggie pizza on my first visit and the pie was loaded down with toppings. Making a veggie pizza that doesn't get soggy is tough. These guys hadn't figured it out.

On subsequent visits I had the eggplant parm and the cheese pizza. Both were satisfactory.

Village Pizza, menu-wise, is one of the better pizza shops in the outlying area surrounding Midtown. In addition to their numerous toppings, they have tons of sandwiches, pastas, salads and other Italian dishes that pretty much anyone, including those not necessarily 'in the mood for Italian' can find something to eat. They have good crusts on their pizza and the slices are decently sized, well topped. The spinach salad is great, if small for the price.

The one thing I really can't stand about this place is the way you smell after you come out. I don't know what it is about the enclosed area and the pizza oven, but if you take a wiff of your shirt immediately after coming back out into Carroll Street, you'll find you smell like trash. It happens with other restaurants too, but I pretty much won't go near Village unless I know I can go home right after and change, which some of my friends make fun of me for, but I don't like to smell.

They also have a nice dessert freezer with Ben and Jerry's and other such items.

The decor is comfortable, with huge booths designed to allow numerous folks to slide in, and they always hang a variety of local art, which varies from decent to very very bad, but is nice to see over corporate art regardless.

OK...so I don't know whether to give this place 1 star because I only like one thing about it or 5 stars because the one thing I do like about is so amazing...hmm...

Well here's the lowdown:

Friday nights they have pitchers of  PBR for like 5 bucks or something cheap like that. i mean come on. You just can't beat that! Even if you do have to sit there with a bunch of weird cyclist people. They also usually have some cool art on display and they sell those strawberry icecream eclair things i use to eat in elementary school...ok so there are a few things i like...

But there are a ton of stuff I don't really like:
Now its not that I hated everything i have ever eaten there, but its nothing to write home about. The grilled cheese my usually on-point food critic friend was always raving about fell short of my extreme expectations. It all just kinda tasted bland. "Nothing to write home about". The weird cyclist-hipster crowd really isn't my cup of tea but, Hey! Atleast they are a blast to make fun of when you have downed 3 pitchers for like 15 bucks! Hit or miss staff. They are either really nice or they look like they might kill themselves at any moment....or you!

My overall observation of the atmosphere here is that I really never want to talk to anyone i ever see there...and that's no fun!

Village closed right when I bought a house in deliverable distance. Bummed was a nice way to describe my emotions. But now they're back. My only pizza choice in the city. ber vegan options. So tasty... Try a Vegan Village Deluxe... Sub the Onion and Green Pepper (it's always overloaded) for Tomato and Spinach. I asked for a Vegan Calzone on my last visit and that's exactly what they gave me. Wicked good. Inside's a little smoky, but worth it. Much love.

I have never had vegan pizza that was this delicious before.  My carnivorous friend tried a piece and even she liked it.  I ordered a 12" pizza with the intent of eating half of it that afternoon and saving the other half for later.  That didn't happen.  Call me strange, but my soysauge, pineapple, spinach, onion, and red pepper pizza (with soy cheese) was the best pizza I've ever had.  Definitely worth trying at least once (if not more often!).

The pizza here is wonderful...most of the time.  I hate the fact that it's a hit or miss with them.  It's definitely worth trying out at least once.  Their veggie supreme pizza is covered in vegetables!! They even put eggplant  and squash on it.  Their vegan pizzas are great too.  Sandwiches and salads are okay but don't ever ask for soup even though it's on the menu..they'll look at you like you're retarded/they never have any.  If you order a pizza for delivery plan on waiting FOREVER.  Their owner is creepy but nice except when he groped my friend on one of his many drunken rampages at Estoria.

Village Pizza closing was a serious bummer as they were the only really good pizza joint that delivered to the 'hood (think SE Atlanta near the Federal pen)....but, there must be a god as it appears that Village Pizza is re-opening.  Check out the post at http://blogs.creativel...

My favorite (nonfancy) pizza in Atlanta.  I recently discovered it and have been three times in the past week.  The pizza is NY style thin crust, with the crust, sauce, and cheese melded into the perfect slice.  Not too bready, not too cheesy.  The toppings and vegetables are fresh.  I'm always happy when I get a salad here.  They also offer pretty good soy alternatives to meat, if you are so inclined.  Delivery to surrounding areas with a small surcharge.

UPDATE #2: POST RENOVATION AWFULNESS!!! We were very happy to see that they were open again, so we ordered and got THE MOST DISGUSTING pizza I have ever eaten, seen or even heard about in my entire life! I am not kidding! The middle was soaking wet! How did that happen? I have no idea! It was completely soaked, soggy and disgusting! And then it got really bad - I called and asked to speak to manager so I could tell them about what happened. There was no manager available so I (very nicely) told the woman who answered the phone what happened and she took my number and said she would give my message to the manager and have him call back and of course, he never did! Now I am sorry - if an establishment is in any way concerned with keeping their loyal customers, they should at least have the decency and the good business savvy to call someone back when they have a complaint of that magnitude. I will never order from them or recommend them again! Peace out, Village Pizza!

UPDATE: apparently they're just closed for renovations. Yay!

I'm sad. So much for the best pizza in ATL. What a bummer.

Good vegan pizza, for vegan pizza :)  Excellent cheese breadsticks, garlic bread, and carnivore pizza, though, so if you're a meat eater or not this is a good pizza place to have on your list.

I love Village Pizza.  They have great pizzas and pastas.  Its nice that they offer pastas since most pizza places in Atlanta with a similar format (ahem Fellini's) only offer pizza and calzones.  The strange thing about this restaurant is that all the surfaces in there are sticky.  With that said we still like to go there and eat pizza with neighborhood friends.  Sometimes the beer on tap tastes skunked.  You might want to stick to bottles.

If your looking for a great place to eat pizza this is it! Cabbagetown's own Village Pizza boasts a great pizza menu for meat eaters and vegans as well. There is something for everyone here and the food and service is great.

This is more directed at the girl that was taking phone orders last night at around 8 pm.  Anyone who has eaten pizza has had left overs, the last time I ordered from there the pizza was great and the delivery was great and the girl on the phone was great.  The only problem was when I reheated it, the pizza sucked!! So last night I asked the girl " hey whats the best way to reheat your pizza"  What do you think she said?  give yourself a moment to play along with me, ready, she said "In the oven" are you kidding me you work at a pizza place, you should know to say, "preheat your oven to 350 deg. throw it in there for 20-25 minutes with a paper towel over it"  Not "in the oven"  than to top it all off, she had to ask someone.  Thank you to that guy in the background he said 425  for 25 minutes and he was spot on!
She finished as strong as she started with a closing of "$17.55 in an hour" no thanks,or your total is, just $17.55 in an hour then a dial tone.
The delivery guy was awesome and the pizza was great as well.
