Rochester Hills has changed so much in the past ten years.  I grew up off Adams Road and there was nothing north of Meadowbrook back then.

The Village of Rochester Hills is a lovely shopping center with tree lined streets.  There are over fifty shops and restaurants to explore.  Parisian (also at Partridge Creek) is the only anchor store with Whole Foods opening this Wednesday to become the other.

There are also two small parks for festivals or carefree lounging.  We came on Sunday for the (6th annual) Fine Art at the Village artisan and craft show.  It was huge!I There were over 100 tents lined down the Village Main S and Street  and three other smaller streets.  We made it to almost all the vendors until the heat did us in.  Check them out next year http://www.FineArtAtTh....

If shopping is not your thing there is a Bravo!, Mitchell's Fish Market and Kruse and Muer, to name the hot spots.  Maggie Moo's is a nice place to cool off at.

For shopping, I'll probably stick to Somerset, but for special events, the Village is a nice change.

Maybe it's the result of those long Michigan winters but give me a sunny mild summer day and I want to absorb as much sunshine and fresh air as possible.

If shopping is on the agenda, I'm heading to The Village. Often dubbed Somerset Outdoors, it's a well-chosen collection of stores (albeit chains - if there were more indie stores, I'd offer up more stars) with convenient parking whether you need to pop in for a quick stop or you plan to spend a few hours.

I generally like to grab a few friends and choose a spot for lunch and then take on the shopping.

Restaurants like Bravo, Kruse & Muer and Cosi have outdoor tables, which are a great option. Then it's time to take on the usual suspects - clothes from J. Crew or Banana Republic;  a candle from Pottery Barn; Williams-Sonoma to satisfy your inner-chef; the makeup counter at Parisian; new soaps from Bath & Body Works, maybe an ice cream at Maggie Moos or a coffee from Starbucks to recharge.

Here's a tip - outdoor malls like this one scare off shoppers around the holidays, which makes parking a breeze and the selection of merchandise plentiful. If the selection of stores suits your needs, find your holiday presents here.

Being only 7 years old The Village still looks brand new. A perfect example of the new designs of outdoor malls that are being refereed to as 'lifestyle centers'. Like they say 'the Village is a destination.' First thing you'll notice as you drive in is the layout. The village is laid out just like a 'downtown' or 'main street' in a small town. There is one main street that drives through the entire center with shops on each side. Parking is available at Parisian, Whole Foods, behind some of the restaurants, along the street, or in the back. if you are looking for food I suggest stopping by Whole Foods, Cosi, or Kabob Grill. If a small snack is your ideal, stop by Whole Foods for their wonderful fresh salad bar or Maggie Moo's to satisfy your ice cream craving. There are wonderful decorations, the festival park is a great place to sit and relax, and the flowers are blooming. You'll immediately notice the difference between Partridge Creek. Where as Partridge Creek is setup more like a mall without a roof and you free to walk around inside, The Village is setup more like a downtown, bustling, busy, urban street center. The Village is everything Partridge Creek should be. Stop by and check it out =)
