Simply great bread.  And their bread is heavy, dense, not in a bad way, but you get a lot of food and nutritional value in a single slice.  The texture of their Oat Bran loaf is more like cake than bread.  Super moist and soft on the inside and the crust is just chewy enough (not hard to bite through but tough enough to let you know it's there.

I'm not one for eating the heels of loaves, but with this bread, I snack on them.  They have a lot of rotating specials (many breads only available on a certain day of the week) so you'll be a bit confused until you figure out what's available when, but it's a good way to manage the variety and cost (and reduce waste).

Most loaved run about 4.50 to 6.50 which is about double the Vons stuff, but this is 100% more fresh, healthy (you don't even have to read the labels, all the ingredients are great and no preservatives) and dense!  Many of their loaves are over 2 lbs!

Keep in mind that there are no preservatives, so be sure to keep an eye on your loaf and if you think it's getting late in its life cycle, turn it into bread crumbs, croutons, etc.

Village Mill Bread Company is the real deal in fresh bread. They mill their own wheat daily on-site and bake the bread in their ovens.  They offer a wide variety of breads in a variety of sizes. One of their best sellers is their challah that comes in a variety of flavors such as raisin, cinnamon swirl, raspberry and non-dairy chocolate chip. Their seeded whole-wheat pioneer bread is also a best seller rich in nutrients and flavor.

However you can't pass up one of their giant cinnamon rolls or sin-cities scrumptious coconut macaroons. I love macaroons and theirs are amazing. They were voted #1 Bakery in the Del Mar area.

Their breads are also sold in Jimbos and other eateries around town.

This is the best bakery, EVER. Seriously, there's nothing they sell here that isn't delicious. My favorite breads are definitely the Italian Parmesan and the Challah. For sandwiches, nothing is better than their 100% Whole Wheat bread or their Multigrain bread. The bread has more calories than you're used to - but seriously, the taste is worth it. Not to mention that most of the breads are fat-free, and many of them are high in fiber and protein. You'll never buy grocery store bread again.

I know the owner and her husband personally and they are the nicest, most welcoming people you'll meet. They and their staff and bakers will go out of their way to make special orders for anyone.

Oh, and the brownies are addicting. And so are the pies. And the cookies. And the cinnamon rolls. Oh man, I'm getting hungry.
