Review from Jason W.
Raleigh, NC
I absolutely love this place, there is something great for everyone here. The smell of freshly made food, coffees, and vegetables are prevalent as soon as you walk in the door; the store is clean, and the staff are friendly.
Food: The prepared food is excellent, fresh, and well seasoned. I highly recommend the humus. The meat and sea food counter is amazing, uncommon fish are presented whole in the case - sure to entertain your kids. Much to my surprise the prices are actually very reasonable for the quality and being located in North Raleigh.
Beer: A great selection of local bottled brews, even some more uncommon six packs like my favorite Bells Two Hearted ( which I'd appreciate if you don't steal from me) are fairly priced.
Service: The staff are very friendly and helpful; the deli/fish counter folks are very knowledgeable about the products they sell. Their store made sausages look great (haven't had a chance to try them) and are on sale every Sunday.
Atmosphere: That of a small town market, clean with the smell of exotic things. It's well organized with lots of room to move around for everything they managed to fit in a relatively small space.
Parking: Tons of it, especially near the back of the village where the market is located. I would recommend parking at the front if you have time, money, and some desire to ingest some extra calories as you walk past all the tasty stores.
This place, along with a lot of other shops in Lafayette village are hidden gems in North Raleigh. -

Oh...how the mighty have fallen...
I'm not 100% sure what happened here, but sometime between Christmas and now - Antonio's Gourmet Market became the Village Market and everything that made my eyes pop out of my head before...seems to be gone. I bought a Living Social deal so I could buy some stuff for an anniversary dinner I was making for my parents. I couldn't even find $20 worth of products that I felt like I wanted, and I ended up not using it. (I did get some red wine and pasta for a recipe.)
The beautiful cheese section from before was non-existent. I was so disheartened that I didn't even stumble over to the bakery to see if they still offered those black and white cookies. The wine and meat sections seem to be about the same, but whatever reorganization that's gone on here has made the market less awesome. It looks like Antonio's is still the name of the catering portion of the business.
I'll probably go back one more time, if only to use up that Living Social, but overall - this isn't the place it used to be. You can still find some interesting food items, but I was really unimpressed this most recent visit.Listed in: When in Raleigh, Eat Dessert First

Review from Ashley W.
I walked in today and it was A LOT bigger than I thought -- a lot of space to move around in (A+ in my book). The butchers were extremely friendly and informative about the meats available. Had to try at least one of each of the sausages (spinach + feta; chicken cordon bleu; maple breakfast sausage; and the broccoli, rave, & garlic). I HAD to grab a dozen of the clams (had fried clams on my mind), and they were so nice to give a couple more for no charge!
My boyfriend and I hungrily approached the deli/"bakery", but there wasn't a big selection of pastries to choose from (just a little bit pricey for the small sizes). The deli workers weren't that attentive -- as we stood there for a couple minutes and then finally one of the workers asked us what we wanted. I studied the menu, but could not find the "meatball" sub anywhere -- I was really looking forward to it since so many people had raved about it. I ended up ordering the "Sicilian" (imported ham, bologna, salami, lettuce, tomato). I waited as the guy made my sandwich and he never once asked me what toppings I wanted on it -- so that was very disappointing. Also, the pizzas that were out (3 pies) were just sitting under a heat lamp for who knows how long. I think they should have been behind glass for sanitation.
I thought $7.95 is a little stiff for an average, 8" sub (with 2 small pickle spears) -- with no chips or drink. The "imported ham" did not taste anything different than the cheap, boiled ham you get from a grocery store. There was no cheese on the sandwich either -- a big travesty in my book. He was also a stickler with the toppings -- putting ONE tomato slice per slice of bread with a little bit of lettuce. You can get more food for a cheaper price at Jason's Deli -- sorry. It tasted "ok", but was extremely dry -- the guy slathered mayo on the bread, but put nothing in the inside to keep it moist. I had to stop eating because I needed a drink to down the food. There's no soda fountain or free water available -- a big "No-No" in my book. You don't pay up front at the deli -- they give you a ticket that you pay at the register. I don't suggest visiting the deli area -- as the service over there is extremely poor.
I wished there was more of a variety of cheeses available -- kinda disappointing because I thought there would be more local cheeses on sale -- especially since there was SO MUCH meat. It should be more balanced. I found the pimiento cheese that fellow reviewers have been raving about -- but it was a small container with a high price for the amount you get (can get double for that price at Harris Teeter).
There were no samples out -- so I was kinda sad about that too. The produce selection was average -- price-wise. Expected a little more variety, but I will say that the price for tomatoes was a STEAL!
All and all, it was a fun trip, but the experience was a little over-rated. Friendly employees, but prices and products weren't as extensive as anticipated. -

I shop at the Market quite frequently! The changes they've made are wonderful! I especially want to express my delight in deli guys from Taza. Frank in the Deli and Angie in the Bakery are especially wonderful! They always goes out out of their way to accommodate me! I was really disapointed they don't serve Gyros at the market but Frank took the time to explain the contents of the mederteranian food they do have and is very pleasant and funny! Because of Frank and Angie's friendly nature and great customer service, I will continue to shop at the Market and eat at the Deli even without my favorite Gyros!

Great things come in small packages!!
Seemingly small, yet has everything you need! I am instantly happy when I walk in the doors of Antonio's. Everyone is so cheerful and welcoming. The produce section has a great selection despite its small size. The fish market is incredible! I can't believe how much they have to offer and how inexpensive they are. Their sushi grade tuna is half the price of Whole Foods at only $12.99/lb. They have a large meat department as well and some pre-made food if you want to stop in for a quick, ready made dinner to take home or if you want to dine right there, they have a little cafe/table area. If you're in the mood to finish off your dinner with a little dessert, they do it up right! The bakery looks amazing - from fresh made breads to enormous cupcakes, they got you covered. This is the only place I can find individual ciabatta buns for sammies.
I'm always in search for good wine and they don't disappoint here. They have a great, yet once again, small selection of wine. Some wines they offer I've only seen at the Raleigh Wine Shop in downtown Raleigh. They offer a few selections chilled as well.
They'll often have a sample or two of something for you to try. I recently purchased the homemade pimento cheese due to sampling it...yum!
It's a little off the beat and path for me as I live downtown Raleigh, but well worth it if you're in the area. -

North Carolina has waited way too long for a gourmet market like this! This place CARES. They care what we eat, what we drink and whether we come back. They care that we want to try new things but might not know how to cook them, so you can ask for advice while you're there, call 'em up or even attend one of their classes. I love that their staff is there to help if you want them too, but they're not pushy at all.
They care that we're busy and might want to bring home a great gourmet meal but don't have time to cook. (TIP: Check out their daily dinner for two to-go specials...they start at $17.95 depending on the entree you choose and come with salad, dessert, sides...seriously you couldn't make it for that especially at this quality level!)
Pastas, Baked Goods, Wines, Seafood, homemade sausages (I love that they have a "sausage of the week for just 99cents a link, so you can try different ones)...oh, and get this, if you have a certain type of sausage you want them to make for you, you can even bring them your recipe and they'll make it for you!
Must tries...their pimiento cheese or olive tapenade (both rich and delicious) on their homemade corn/rice crackers that are made in-store with the coolest machine that POPS them out. Never seen anything else like it and the best part is they only have 16 calories each! (minus the toppings of course).
This is foodie HEAVEN...in more ways than one. This place will "floor" you if you see/hear the "floor" story too! -

A gem hidden up in the new Lafayette Village (half-unfinished still) in North Raleigh. Their housemade sausages are top-notch, and when they declare "gourmet pizza" - they are true to their word. This small, carefully-curated food market has a huge selection of foods and ingredients (including a well-selected choice of Italian wines) for the discerning cook/chef or the rushed professional who appreciates excellent food but doesn't always have time to prepare. The staff is friendly and always happy to make a recommendation. I live inside the Beltline in Five Points, but will happy venture up the road to come back here. Worth the trip!

We stopped by Antonio's Sunday after breakfast. Thank goodness we were full. This would be an expensive place to shop on an empty stomache!
The shop was neat , tidy and well organized. Unlike most gourmet markets, they have resisted the urge to fill every square inch of available floor space with product. It is an open and attractive space.
The selection of prepared food and cheeses was excellent. We managed to restrain ourselves and only brought home a crab cake which we fried up for dinner. It was excellent.
The beer selection is excellent and the meat and fish were fresh.
We'll be back! -

We stopped in today after Ron W advised of their meatball sub (the Goombha)...
It was really nice to go there today because I guess the rain scared people away. We were the only people there for a little while, which allowed us to actually get to look at their meat, deli, bakery and prepared food cases. The last time we were there, we couldn't get a view!
They have a few tables inside, so we plopped down and ate the HUGE meatball sub. We split it and left quite full. The bread was very fresh and soft and the meatballs were homemade tasting, my husband thought the meatballs were more like meatloaf. It wasn't the absolute best sub I've ever had, but for $9 for two for lunch - it was the best sub I've ever had.
They were sampling a tasso ham sandwich on ciabatta with fresh mozzarella and a touch of oil and vinegar. OMG! That WAS the best sandwich I've ever had. I wish I would have ordered that! The meat was smoky, the mozzarella was creamy and the oil and vinegar was the perfect amount to help the ciabatta roll soak it up a little, but not get soggy. Mmm.. Mmmm.
I also needed some apples and they had many great looking apples - at a VERY good price (like $1/lb less than the regular grocery stores.)
We picked up a 2lb bag of Italian Espresso beans and I can't wait until the espresso machine is empty so I can try them!! I find their shelf items very reasonable in cost - the coffee was $18 for 2lbs. -

Seriously, I can't even think of a gourmet market in the bay area that would beat out Antonio's in a head-to-head contest. Maybe the Oakville Grocery... but Antonio's is more spacious, more attractively priced, and blessed with a much better selection.
We strolled in here at lunchtime today for a quick gander. I felt like my daughter at the aquarium, nose (almost) pressed against the glass, salivating at the array of meats, fish and prepared foods. There were literally about 20 things I would have had to choose between if I were shopping for dinner.
Instead we headed over to the bakery section and selected made-to-order sandwiches, which we proceeded to destroy on a sun-drenched bench outside the store. Mine was "the Bistro": shaved ham, apple, brie, a mustard dressing all melted on beer bread. Joel went with the San Gennaro, which consisted of sweet sausage (with parsley and cheese snuck into its casing), sauteed onions and peppers on a hoagie. Both were gone in minutes - no mean feat considering their mighty size.
There was also a delightful man from Cary sampling his (very good) Outta the Park barbecue sauce. We'll be back, soon, to stock up on said sauce plus stuffed mushrooms, veal meatballs and a whole lot more. -

[7/23 Triangle Food Tour: Stop 4] Fresh Food Market, eat your heart out! As soon as we step through that automatic double door I thought was I was in fresh food heaven. The owner came and greeted us right at the door with his warm personality and a handshake.
Telling us story about his 35 years in the business, I can see that he's really proud of the way he runs his business, and it does reflect in this store. The interior is bright, all the food not only look but taste fresh; every so often I see the helps come out straighten the items on the shelf, or wiping the condensation on the glass display with a squeegee.
When you come into a store like this, it's hard to just browse and walk away; as we left and continue on with the tour I did purchase a few items. "I will be back," I assure him, and that is not a lie. -

Drawn in by all the great Yelp reviews, I stopped into Antonio's Gourmet Market yesterday! Like a lot of other businesses in Lafayette Village, Antonio's doesn't look like much from the outside. But once you get inside, whoa! Foodie paradise! Perfect for a couple or young family that likes great food and gourmet meals.
Up front there's a small produce section and dry goods area with sauces, dressings and jams. But the star of Antonio's is a refrigerated case as far as the eye can see! Gourmet meats, prepared foods, deli case and more, it all looked amazing. They've even got this Coco puffed-cake blaster that makes fresh, multi-grain pop cakes. And yeah, it really does BLAST out these treats! I settled in at the hot sandwiches counter (next to the fresh pizza counter) and ordered up the Goombha, a meatball sandwich with marinara sauce. The sandwich was VERY good and on some amazingly light and crunchy bread. Sort of like Which Wich but maybe even better. The sandwich is BIG and comes with a side so it's a lot of food.
Probably the best part of Antonio's is the service. They've got a lot of people working here and I got asked several times if I needed help. They definitely train their staff well here. Overall I'd love to have an Antonio's a bit further south. What about Cameron Village, Antonio? Cause the food is awesome and fresh here, I really can't see how you could go wrong at Antonio's.Listed in: Loving Lafayette Village!

I am so happy that we have a great gourmet market here in North Raleigh.
There is a lot of variety, and many different stations that they have set up. Meat Market, Fish Market, Pizza from a wood burning oven, hot and cold prepared food, deserts galore, and a really cool machine that makes crackers. They have it all, they may need more vegetarian choices in the deli, but then again I can go to Whole Foods for that kind of stuff. World class all the way.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Wow! After hearing a couple of co-workers rave about this place, I stopped in after work to check it out and didn't want to leave.
It's smaller than I expected but very well laid out ... lots of samples all over the place. Prices are surprisingly reasonable and service was incredible. I was there for maybe 15 minutes and was greeted by at least five people (probably more). Didn't even check out the seafood counter, which I'm doing next week, but took home the spectacular pimiento cheese, a nice wheat bread, stuffed mushrooms (great!), caprese salad (very garlic-y, which I love), and a couple of bottles of wine. Glanced through the produce section -- small but looked terrific and prices seemed lower than traditional grocery stores.
I'll be back (often). In fact, I'm looking to buy a place ... and my brief encounter with Antonio's and Lafayette Village just put that neighborhood on the radar. Go and enjoy! -

Wow, Antonio's is a welcome addition to Raleigh. It is a full grocer with produce, dairy, meat, fish and bakery counters at competitive prices. There is a wide variety of beautiful meats and fish, as well as pre-cooked foods for take out meals. They have fine specimens of baby octopus, clams, oysters, baccala, king crab claws and more. The meat case is tempting as well with everything you could want (including quail eggs). The dairy case has ricotta made with no fillers (can't find this in your standard grocery store). It even carries duck fat for the home chef. The store is located at the charming new Lafayette Village off of Falls of the Neuse Road.

We just had their stuffed lobster and a rib eye steak and they were better than any restaurant I've ever been to! The staff is amazing, they really know their stuff. The owner even came up and suggested a really good wine to go with dinner. I can't wait to go back! What a find for Raleigh!!!

Very impressive. Wonderful selection of fresh seafood, meats, cheeses, prepared foods, fresh baked goods, wine, etc... We've been in twice and the helpful and friendly staff behind the meat counter and the bakery counter remembered us. Try their fresh pimento cheese spread...seriously, the best I've ever had (my husband said the same thing and he was born and raised in the south). When you walk in, it feels like you'll be paying more than it's worth but the prices are very reasonable! What a resource to have in the area! We will go back often.

Very impressive selection of meats, prepared food, bread, etc. My family loves to stop in and brouse. I LOVE the carry out special which allows me to take a gourmet meal home to my family on my way home for about $20.. An incredible assortment and it's about time we had a place like this in North Raleigh!!!
