Getting a pizza here is always one of the highlights of coming back into town(La Selva), I now live in San Diego, but there are two or three "must-haves" when I roll back into the Bay Area, and getting one of their pizzas (pep and artichoke hearts is my fav!) is on the list.
Good location, family-friendly, decent beer selection and a usually on-the-ball staff, yet to have a screwed up order to date!

It's a good place for kids to run around and for parents not to worry. Safe environment. Pizza is ok. Definitely better selection in town. Staff is a little cold. They seem put out by requests. I had a pesto chicken sandwich, which was decent, but I wanted a little more pesto. Staff behind the counter acted like I wanted a cup of pesto instead of just a small container. I wasted $2.00 on a broken video game for my son and asked for a refund. Guy behind counter said, "I can only give you $2.00 back. It's not even our video games". I am getting tired of this". That's not my problem. It's your establishment, you have the video games there. Get rid of them if they are a hassle. I don't know, the staff just has a very odd, distant feel. It's good in a pinch if you are hungry. But, I won't seek it out.

I warned you about this review more than a year ago Village Pizza...or whatever the heck your name is.  Don't think you can get away with turning away girls that are hungry!

We were craving a later dinner and pizza sounded great.  It also sounded great because we were staying at the resort across the street and there were like zero options.

Note:  when your hours on your door say you close in approximately 30 more minutes, you let someone in to your establishment to eat. In fact, having your doors locked while people are inside eating and before your closing time is not the smartest business scheme.  I realize that pizza takes a bit of time to cook and we will probably be there longer than 30 minutes, but hey that's the restaurant business.  Deal with it.  If you refuse customers then you get reviews like these.  We would have been understanding too, believe me.  We would have just ordered it to go and taken it back to our suite, had you let us in!

Yes, one of us in our group may have been a little vocal about the situation (not it!) and perhaps we had had a little to drink earlier that day....but that is no reason to next threaten us and say you are going to call the cops if we don't get off of your property.  Geeeez.  20 year old boy working at the pizza place in a tiny town on a Saturday night, get a life.

For a pizza place i have yet to order and try them.every time i eat here i either go for the burgers or salad bar right away.the burgers are really good!!!i usually go before it gets crowded so the wait is short.one of these days i guess ill try ordering their pizza and see how it is.

just a heads up,bring cash for the soda/drinks since you pay for it separately.

I was annoyed with all of the 1-2 star reviews so I had to write up a review. I've been eating Village Host ever since I was a kid. We had little league parties here, birthday parties, etc.. the pizza has always been good and consistent.. the staff is great. When I come back to Aptos from the Bay Area and I am in the mood for pizza..this place is my #1 choice! Also I LOVE their Terriyaki Chicken Sandwich! (It has a lot of mayo but its yummy and reminds me of home!)

I have been coming here since I was a kid and I even worked here at one time. The pizza is delish, my favorite is the combination pizza with no mushrooms or cheese and olive. The salad bar is a must cause they make their own ranch dressing, and its amazing. I also really really love the hot ham and cheese sandwich, but then again the chicken teriyaki  sandwich is also good too

I went here on a Monday night with friends to watch the MSU vs. UNC championship basketball game. The place was overrun with families and loads of little kids running around (at one point they were being completely obnoxious in the arcade portion of the restaurant). We were pretty engrossed in the game though, so we pretended not to notice (besides, everyone pretty much cleared out by 8pm or so).

My boyfriend and I shared a medium "Triple P" pizza: pepperoni, pesto, and pineapple. There was cheddar cheese drizzled over the top. The pizza was ready pretty quickly and it was quite delicious. The crust was the perfect texture. Our total came to about $17.

Bonus: there were enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

This review has been long in the making.  I work across the street at the Seascape Resort .  It was about 1.5 years ago I was working swing shift one night and called to order a pizza for pick up.  I was told by the female employee that they were no longer taking orders for the evening. She advised me they did not take orders after 9:30pm.  I pulled my phone away from my ear to glance at my cell phones "Network Time", it read 9:23pm. Keep in mind the hours posted on the business door says they are open until 10pm this particular night.  A little flustered as to why they would not make a pizza with over 35 minutes until closing time, I headed over to speak with a manager.  Upon arrival I tried ordering again just to test the waters and no go.  By now it was 9:27pm and I asked for the manager.  The manager came out and met with me, saw my uniform from the resort and yelled to the employees to go ahead and make me a pizza. No apologies, really no emotion in the guy at all.

I departed with such a bad customer service experience and on top of all the other complaints I'd heard from other resort guests, I decided I would never return there again.  Mind you I am a pizza lover and by now would have spent hundreds of dollars there.  I also made it a point to never refer any resort guests to this place.  I would not want to wear the burdon of sending a guest there only to have them come back and say they didn't like who I reccommended.  The pizza at the time I remember being very good and tasty.  I did break down and go here 2 times since this incident once for a friend who was having her sons birthday party there and once with a co-worker on a whim one night and both times the pizza was not so good.  The crust literally tasted like cardboard , with low grade cheese and the sauce was just tasteless.  All around a not so yummy pizza.  Therefor solidifying my original plan never to return to the place again.

If you value customer service and good pizza this is not a place that offers either.

This is one of the pizza places, that my husband and I love to go to.  We live in San Jose, so we don't get here too often.  When we are headed to the coast, we are definitely headed to Village Host.  Every year, my extended family stays at a beach house on Manresa State Beach for a week and we always go Village Host once or twice.

The crust is a medium crust in my book.  Not thin, but not super thick and doughy either.  It is sightly crispy on the bottom and stays flat when you pick it up.  It has cornmeal on the bottom for sliding it in and out of the oven.  I like that texture.

The sauce is interesting and has a lot of flavor/spices.

The cheese is the real stuff and tastes really good.  They put a generous portion all the way out to the edge (bonus points for that!)

One of the things I use to evaluate a pizza place is the sausage.  Village Host sausage ROCKS!  It is not that nasty pre-processed type (think Round Table) or the pre-cooked sliced kind.  This is little lumps of fresh yummy sausage cooked right on the pizza.  Soooooo gooood!!!

When they had a shop in Redwood City, we used to drive all the way there just for a "fix".  You need to try this place if you love great pizza.  THe extra bonus is that there you are at Seascape just steps away from some of the best beaches in the area.

At a friend's house last night, I had the triple-P pizza from Village Host - pineapple, pesto, and pepperoni. I had heard about it before, but had never tried it. Wow! Great mix of spicy, savory, and sweet. I think there is some type of sauce drizzled over the top too that brings all the flavors together. I'll give a four for this pizza - sorry I have no clue what the restaurant is like, service, other dishes, etc. But if you go, get this pizza! They do deliver to the La Selva area, which is nice.

    Okay, Village Host.

There's good and there's bad here.

    Good:

The sandwiches are great.  My favorite is the turkey sandwich which they then put in the oven to toast after it's made.  This results in a gooey, melted cheesey sandwich that I can't find anywhere else.

The prices are pretty cheap.  Six bucks for a decent sandwich is reasonable.

Quick turnaround.  You can call ahead and have your sandwich in ten minutes.

    Bad:

The chips that come with the sandwich are inedible and greasy.  If your taste buds are offended at the mere thought of soiling your perfect sandwich with this crap, spend the extra dollar or two and go to the Seascape Village (in the same shopping center) and buy REAL chips.

The morons who answer the phone.  While I understand that naturally a pizza place in a tourist town is going to be staffed by teenagers, the ones they let answer the phone should have more than half a brain cell.  Last Sunday I called in at 11:30 to place my sandwich order.  Dude on the phone tells me they don't open until 12pm.  I said, "Okay, well can I put in my order now and come pick it up at 12?"  Oh, of course not.  Dude tells me I have to call back EXACTLY at 12 and then they could help me.  To which I replied, "Well then why did you answer the phone, genius???".  No answer to that.

However, I am addicted to that sandwich and so I swallowed my irritation at this delay.  In truth, it only made me want the damned sandwich even more.

In truth, their pizza borders on the inedible.  Save yourself the trouble and head for the sandwiches instead.

I really only go here because I live close by.

The pizza is okay, but it gives me really bad indigestion. I think their pizza sandwhich (on a french roll) is more enjoyable.

But, the thing to get here is the burger. They use good meat. I'll often get the double cheeseburger. It comes with a small bag of chips. I just wish they had more side items to choose from. The salad bar isn't  the greatest.

Don't be surprised if the place is a filthy mess. For some reason, many of the families that eat here are complete slobs. And, the staff is often not in a big hurry to clean up after them.

I've never been a terribly huge fan of their pizza.  I always find the crust sort of hard, burnt, and cardboard like.  Still, it's not too bad and is nice to have once in awhile.  They also serve a myriad of other grill items and are really involved with the local community, which is nice.  The thing I remember most about Village Host from when I was younger is the 2 - 3 arcade games in the back of the restaurant...

surprised to see so many negative reviews here, but one aspect I can agree on...  oh man, I definitely felt this pizza the next morning.  even moreso than the 5th of Jameson.  anyhoo...

standard pizza fare.  of the chains, it reminds of Round Table, which depending on your taste and preferences can be a good thing or a bad thing.  each time we ordered, went and picked up instead of delivery, and the pie was always piping hot even by the time we got it home.

prices aren't the cheapest but the pie isn't half bad.  Im not raving about it, but im not ranting either.

Village Host Pizza is awesome!  It's been here in Seascape, right on the beach for 16 years now.  The menu is very broad and has something for everyone to enjoy.  Delicious pizza, hot sandwhiches (the pesto chicken is AMAZING), garlic chips, salad bar, and I hear rumor there may be pasta coming soon?  They've got video games to keep the kids occupied and huge flat screen TVs to keep track of the game.  The staff is super helpful and pretty good about getting the food cooked and ready fairly quickly.  All their ingredients are fresh and authentic (none of that canned pizza sauce and cheese fillers).  Fantastic food, happy, fun, family atmosphere, and a block away from the beach...what more could you want?

Possibly some of the worst pizza I've ever had. We got delivery and it was very timely but the pizza was simply awful. Would have been better served going to the store and getting frozen. Cardboard consistency crust, cheap canned sauce and then it settled like a bowling ball after eating. FAIL.

This is just my personal opinion.  Any place that uses yellow cheese on pizza will take a hit from me.  Yellow cheese on pizza?  That's almost like using ketchup for pasta sauce.  It should be illegal.  You should be permanently banned from ever stepping foot on Italian soil if you admit to eating pizza with yellow cheese.  That's what Chucky Cheese is for.  I don't make any effort of going to Village Host because it's just average.  They've been around a long time so I guess they make enough people happy - just not someone who grew up on the East coast.

After reading the other reviews, I expected more.

I orderd a takeout pie.  Pepperoni with 1/2 anchovies.  I also did a take out salad bar.

The pizza was OK.  I confess I prefer thin crust with just enough cheese to cover the pie.  This was too thick and the cheese was too heavy, so that it covered the taste of the pie.

The salad greens were fresh.  The seemed to have alot of odd things on the salad bar.  I worried about turn over.

The pizza here would be fine if you are looking for easy take out food to serve at a game or a movie night, but it would be hard to get excited about this place as a destination for pizza.

I would call ahead for take out - 20 -30 minutes.

the pizza was good, but it was heavy so you definitely don't want to go here if you are looking to eat "light".  There was a lot of grease and a lot of cheese with thick crust, the taste is good but you do really feel it the next day, even for pizza it's a heavy meal.  What this place really has going for it is the atmosphere, it's simple and feels like the neighborhood pizza parlor, the kind of place that sponsors your kids soccer team and gives the team free pizza after the game.  The beer selection is good too, a good place to go to every once in a while.

The pizza is pretty decent.  Not as good as Aptos Pizza or Pizza 1, but close.  Better than any of the chain pizzas though.  Crust a little thick, tasty sauce, always cooked just right.  They also have some pretty good sandwiches, particularly the burgers and chicken sandwich.  They're served on toasted french rolls.  A drawback is you get a small bag of chips with them, no fries.  Service is friendly, but sometimes turns into a teenage social event behind the counter if the owner is not there.  Bussing tables gets very low priority.  However, if you have kids, this is the best place in Aptos due to the ample parking, good sized dining room and video games.
