When I moved into my postage stamp-sized studio down the street, I knew that I was going to have to change my food shopping habits drastically. Having previously enjoyed the luxury of an elevator building and a gigantic refrigerator, I was a serious FreshDirect aficionado. However, with my new living arrangement in a walkup with a dorm fridge, stockpiling food through huge FreshDirect orders just wasn't an option. I felt guilty making the delivery guy haul my cases of Coke up several flights, nevermind the fact that I no longer have the space for that many cans.

Enter Village Farm. This place changed my life. I have always hated grocery shopping and did everything to avoid it, but now a day is not complete without me popping my head in here for something. A cold drink after derby practice, cat litter or an emergency can of cat food, a jug of milk for tomorrow's cereal and coffee, or something crunchy just because I feel like it. They have everything I need.

I will occasionally cheat on Village Farm with FreshDirect, but only because FD has some things I can't get here, like a fresh cut of steak on special or a loaf of FD's multigrain bread (for which a suitable substitute does not seem to exist). But now my orders are much more manageable and infrequent, so I don't feel bad.

Village Farm, you are one of my best friends in the neighborhood. You're there for me 24 hours a day, you always have what I want, and even though you might be a tad bit more expensive than other options, your convenience is worth it. This is one of the best places in the city by far. They're friendly, sell good food that's good for you, and have an adorable cat. What more could you want?

Two and half years living in the city and I can say with certainty that this is one of the best bodegas.  It has the best flower selection (and well lit too). It has the most selection I've seen in a corner bodega.  And...there's a resident kitty cat that sometimes works the register.

This place is  little slice of heaven.  Being able to order online and get delivery within 3 hours is AMAZING!

They are also one of the few places (the only I've found actually) that carry a decent supply of British import foods, crisps in particular. Hula Hoops and Quavers are a NECESSITY in life and now I finally have a great supplier.

I've ordered many times and each time everything comes fresh and usually a few minutes early. Delivery guys are great and always helpful making sure you take a look in your packages to see if they forgot anything.  They also run GREAT specials and their deals on bulk items are great as well.

I LOVE MY SUPERBODEGA!!!

It's 4am and I'm finally coming home and holy shit I NEED dried cranberries. I am craving them with every last inch of my essence and must have them. Who satisfies my needs? Village Farm the amazing super bodega does.

Yeah, if it's daytime and I'm making a big shopping trip I go to Trader Joe's because it's cheap prices and consistently healthy food. But this place serves all those late night needs and lazy inclinations. Paper towels because we've just run out and need them asap? Check. Ben & Jerry's because we're in the munchie-zone? Double check. Breads? Amy's Organic goods? Produce? Cleaning Products? Beautiful flowers all over the place? Checkity check check.

This place has what you need. If you're in the hood it's a great choice. Yeah it's not the cheapest place in the world, but it won't break the bank. Love it.

Need a bottle of Chimay to take to a BYOB? Check.
Feel like eating a cup ramyun while walking on the streets? Check.
Convenient location and they carry tons of things I like, including Kinder eggs.

If you live in the East Village, you may never once visit a large grocery so long as you shop here. Everything I ever needed could be found in this shop two blocks away.  No matter what it is I am looking for, I seem to be able to find it here. Raspberry Framboise, organic chicken and sun dried tomato links, Flax and Spelt cereals, HP Sauce, Mcvities Dark Chocolate Oatie Digestives- mmm, Hob Nobs-  you name it.

Their flower selection is far ranging and of good quality. My mister has brought many a happy flower home to grace our nest from their cheerful corner display. The counter guys are fun and they have a never ending supply of good bhangra tunes going on.

The greatest bodega/grocery in Manhattan.

I used to live above it, and miss it every day.

Seiroulsy, go.

This place has everything.  And I do mean everything.

One of the most extensive selections of weird beers I've ever seen.

Friendly neighbourhood staff who remember who you are, and what are your favourite things to buy.

Love their sweet cat Crystal too.

Because of this grocery store, I basically never have to leave my home -- they deliver everything!  The beauty of it is that you don't have to order a day in advance, as with FreshDirect -- you get get what you need within 2 hours (max), usually sooner.  To summarize:

1) Huge range of groceries
2) Swift delivery
3) Organic products
4) Bulk deals
5) Newspapers and magazines!
6) It's open 24/7
7) Drawback -- they are sometimes out of items, but someone from the store will call you personally and suggest alternatives.

This is the kind of place that makes New York what it is -- you're able to get whatever you need at your fingertips with a phone call.  Amazing.

Between the smell of fresh flowers to the wonderful aroma of produce: you know that you're not getting ripped off.  My one sentence review is enough for this gem.  Also: I love the mural of painted people on the wall outside- true east village flavor.

I have mixed feelings about Village Farm. On the one hand, it's open 24 hours a day, has better vegetables than the Met Foods down the road, a huge, international selection of beers, British foods you can't get anywhere else (if you like that sort of thing) and great Indian music. On the other hand, it always smells like cat pee (they have a fat white and orange tabby) and they did some serious price-gouging during the blackout. Nah, forget what I said. The awesome selection totally outweighs the cat pee.

It's raining outside and you don't want to have to leave to get cigarettes despite living directly across the street from a deli? You really want a glade rainshower candle right then and there without leaving the house? Well, I doubt this describes anyone but me, but I assume you get the point that you can get whatever you want delivered and it's awesome! You can order from here from http://delivery.com, thus never even have to speak to anyone, since it is somewhat shameful to get cigarettes and a bottle of water delivered. The other plus side to that is that you don't have to read your credit card number over the phone and then have them call you back 5 minutes later asking for it again. Also very prompt and friendly delivery person.

Thanks to the lovely http://delivery.com, I can experience Village Farm from the comfort of my upper west side living room! I had some beer and some food delivered last night, these guys were great. I wanted some smoked salmon for breakfast today, and they didn't have the specific one I ordered on the site. So, they called me and walked me through their options until I decided what I wanted. Kudos.

this is quite a place.  There are some very pretty flower arrangements in the front, better than the average deli's.  Within, you will find imported chocolates including milka, ritter sport, lindt, and the more local varieties, like cadbury.  There's also fair trade chocolates like dagoba, which is really awesome stuff.
In the beer section, you will find your average heinekin or however you spell that, and then you will find imports from germany, france, ukraine, japan, china, india, etc.
there is an awesome "health" food section where you'll find nut milks, vegan and vegetarian lunches ("chicken salad," dumplings, noodles, "tuna," etc.), soy ice cream, and frozen entrees.
There's a small selection of vegetarian "meats" and real meat.  produce.  A small area where you can buy nuts, dried fruit, candy, and snacks in bulk.
there's also a small section for pet needs.
There's an aisle for household items like trash bags and such.  Milk can be found in the back.  there's an aisle of cookies and whatnot as well, but i didn't get to see taht in too much detail.  I can go on and on about the great things you can find here (hummus, exotic juices, etc.), but that would be too long.

As you shop, you can groove to Indian pop playing throughout the store.  hehe

I just love all the hard to find imports and vegan/vegetarian things they've got here.  Unforunately, it's a bit on the expensive side.  You'd expect these prices for the location thought.  plus, they're imports, so you can't expect it to be cheap.  certain other things can be found in other places for less though.

Wow.  For a corner store, this place has it all - including organic products!  I walked in looking for my favorite flavor of Honest Tea and left with a grocery store amount of food and drinks.

One of the best stocked Grocery places that I have ever seen. You name it and they have it. Flowers, Fruits, Fresh organic produce, Fresh squeezed juices, Fruit salads. An entire selection dedicated to Gourmet Food. 400+ kinds of Beer. Huge selection of Pet Food.  Entire aisle stocked with cereal from bottom of the floor to the roof.  If a cereal exists they have it .They have imported sweets, chocolates, cookies, biscuits, Tea from around the world.
This is the place to go shopping for your kitchen.
Best of all they are open 24 hours and they deliver round the clock. http://www.villagefarm...

My god, this place is wonderful! They deliver anywhere in Manhattan for FREE within 3 hours. That beats FreshDirect on time and price! They have everything you could ever want, including nearly every British treat I crave! Hula Hoops, Cadbury Caramel Bars, Lion bars. They've got it covered. They are nice, friendly, call when they are out of things, and generally awesome. Used to order on http://delivery.com, but now I just use their direct site--it seems like some of the prices are a bit cheaper. I can no longer function without this place. Love. Love. Love.
