A coworker and I took a long lunch and took the long drive out to Vietnam Kitchen. If needed we could refer to our extended break as "team building". After driving down 264 West all the way to the south end of Louisville we we're hungry like we'd been on the Oregon Trail.
This may point out how long it had been since my last visit but the restaurant had a new coat of blue paint. I found the color more inviting and made the restaurant seem less like a hall when the walls were white. My friend had an ice water and a bowl of hot and sour soup. I had a limeaid and a bowl of Pho.
Food arrived in a timely manner even during their lunch rush. The limeaid was tart and tasted fresh. The Pho was fantastic as usual. I don't know if Vietnam Kitchen makes their own rice noodles but they are to die for. The broth is perfect not too strong and certainly not weak. My friend loved his hot and sour soup. Neither one of spoke much as our heads were facing the table tops, sucking soup. The portions are huge at Vietnam Kitchen. We both went in with claims of leaving no food behind. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. If I felt I could have physically fit more Pho into my stomach, I would have done it.
I love you VK. I'll try to visit more often.

Best place to grab a bowl of Pho in the area. The dinning area isn't glamorous but is totally… Read more »
A small unassuming place in a stripmall but..... great food!! Lunch for about $10.
Todd M. is right. Food is amazing. Anytime one of my siblings and I fly in, we go right from Standiford Field to Vietnam Kitchen. It's kind of a hike from Glenview, but we are not above making that drive...it is that good.
Yes - not a great area.
Yes - not much ambience
Yes - Awesome food...
I live in San Diego and have yet to find anything in SoCal that is as good.
This is a favorite place for some very cool friends of mine in L'ville. And for good reason. The prices are cool and the food is fantastic. The atmosphere is very open and unpretentious. It's about enjoying eating and good conversation. There's a wide variety on the menu and plenty of options for vegetarians. Stop reading this now and go check it out!
This is up there with my top favorite Vietnamese restaurants.
Lunch here was really great.
Three of us ran over for lunch one afternoon. We like vietnamese food very much but people usually get mad when I try to pronounce all the foods cause they think I'm making fun of vietnamese people. I think i speak good. But for the sake of this review I'll stick to englihs.
Two fresh rolls
1 Pork in hot pot (N4)
1 Green Curry
1 of those vermacilli noodle dish thingys with pork and stuff.
A review we'd read online advised to not ask for extra spicy because the food was already spiced enough ... NOT TRUE.
The curry was good - it was very flavorful and spicy but just enough to enhance the flavor - not the all out mind blowing spicyness experience we were going for. So next time, we'll ask to have it hotter.
I'm definitely coming back here soon!
Always a good choice, I plan to make myself a regular now that I live on that side of town. I've been about 5 times for lunch and dinner and have always gotten top notch food. Occasionally slow service and the shopping center's parking lot can get "interesting" later at night, but nothing to complain about.
My absolute favorite is the cold beef salad, something that any good Vietnamese restaurant has but all of them do a little differently. VK's is not the best I've had but is a front runner and I think that best is subjective anyway- you know, a little more beef, a little less onion, maybe up the cilantro etc just gets too detailed. All the dishes I've tried have had great flavors and large servings.
Easy to get to/from the airport too, if you are flying out, you can get up 3rd st and over 1 exit on 264 in about 10 minutes so there is no excuse for leaving Louisville hungry :)
We love it. The first night Chuck was in town, he took the long cab ride from the Brown Hotel just to try the noodles. This was followed by a frantic call to me about how good it was. We've eaten here several times since we re-located to the city.
You don't go for ambiance, you don't go for service, necessarily; you go for the food, which is delicious. I wish they'd turn the spiciness up a couple notches, but you can always ask for chili sauce.
This has been one of our most enjoyable restaurant finds in Louisville so far. I just wish it was closer to the Highlands.
I've been on the east and west coasts and eaten in dozens of Vietnamese joints, this one is THE BEST. The food is amazing, the price is right and the options are unlimited. I love the crushed ice and the giant glasses for beverages since I am a masochist with the hot sauce....
My faves are Hot&Sour soup, summer Rolls (the cold steamed ones) and the green curry!!! I wish I could buy the soup by the GALLON.
I've lived in NYC for 6 years and have a decent Vietnamese spot I like, but it's no Vietnam Kitchen!!!
We had some take-out pho from Vietnam Kitchen last night. My wife picked it up, so I can't comment on the service or ambiance, but the food was delicious. Pho is the perfect meal for a cold Sunday night. The spring rolls were also delicious, although I would've preferred more peanut and less soy in the sauce.
Ok, the food was great (at least mine was). I had curry chicken, but my friend's ginger chicken was dry and not very tasty. The service was decent, but we had to ask for napkins and silverware and the neighborhood seemed a little dicey. Also, some intoxicated patron was obnoxiously screaming the whole time we were in there, but at least now I know how to say "drunk asshole" in Vietnamese. I would take out next time and up the review to 4 stars.
Springs rolls, lo mein noodles are great here, and the night we were there they had turnip cakes for an appetizer.
Tofu in the Clay Pot! Mock Duck!
Best Vietnamese Food in Louisville, hands down! Lots of vegetarian options too. I personally love the tofu spring rolls w/ a fresh limeade.
I love this place. The tofu in the clay pot sounds iffy, but is amazingly tasty and fantastic. The restaurant's ambience is very authentic, and service is okay. I used to go here alot with my vegetarian friends and they had tons of options for them as well! Mock duck was a favorite I believe.
