Roll your own spring rolls!
I love this place. You get to make your own spring rolls! They give you everything you need, the veggies, the meat, the rice paper & best of all, the sauce!!!
They have different types of stuff for your stuffing, they have the 7 courses of beef, the bbq beef, bbq shrimp, bbq squid that you can cook up before putting it in your spring roll. Roll up your spring roll & you are ready to go!
How to "spring roll":
1. Dip a sheet of rice paper into the warm/hot water just enough to coat the full sheet and place on your plate. The rice paper will soften in a min as you are putting your ingredients in.
2. Place some lettuce on the bottom half, then all the other goodies. I personally like to use lettuce as a barrier so the hot stuff isn't on the outside.
3. Then roll like a taquito/burrito/eggroll, dip in the yummy sauce & enjoy!!
They also have the other Vietnamese yummies like pho, rice places, and drinks. I love the soda lemonade the best! The place is pretty clean and the service is pretty good. Definitely recommended! :)Listed in: Slurpiness, UnPHOgettable, Local | San Gabriel, On the Side

Review from Wan L.
Came here instead after seeing a crowd of ppl outside Golden Deli...no thanks! It was 8pm and I wasn't going to wait an hour plus for pho. So off to Vietnam House we go...
There was a wait but not nearly as bad, we waited about 15 mins. While we were waiting, one of the server asked if we were willing to share a big table, we declined. I'm not sure why he asked because there were two empty tables available and in plain view! A few secs later we were seated at one of those tables.
We ordered the Pho Tai Filet, Charbroiled pork w/ rice and spring rolls w/ meatball. The pho tai was good. Broth was tasty and the filet was tender. I highly recommend ordering the filet. The charbroiled pork was okay, kinda dry but flavorful and not fatty. As for the spring rolls, well...we had to ask them twice to bring it because they clearly forgot. However they didn't forget to bring the sauce because that came before our pho and rice. The first server we asked went back to the kitchen and we thought, yay, we are going to get our spring rolls but Nope! He walked out with the sauce and when he noticed that we already had one on the table he quickly turned around with the sauce in hand and went back in the kitchen. We thought, okay, now he realizes we asked for the spring rolls but we were wrong again. He came out emptied handed and went about doing his thing, WTH!?! It took 10 mins to flag another server down. All this for spring rolls that were Bleh! It was all vermicelli and veggies, seriously, where's the meat? The so called meatball was paper thin! Advice: Don't order! Go to Brodard or NNNH instead.
BTW, I'm not sure how this restaurant got its decent rating because I saw a cockroach run across our table. And we all know, when there's one, there's more! Eeek! Also, their floors are wet, dirty and sticky. I saw a customer slip. Good thing he caught himself or else it would've been bad because a server was behind him with two bowls of pho. Yikes! -

Pho usually comes out pretty fast, it did not here. I ordered pho with rare beef, tendon, and tripe. Everything was generally good. The portions were just right. The pho, you can tell was in a glob because it was hard to wiggle apart, but that's not really a big deal. The soup was not salty, not as salty as some that I've had before, but it didn't have a lot of flavor.
We also ordered the egg rolls, which were good but were not hot when it came to the table so I assumed that it wasn't made to order, but rather pre-fried in batches.
We were given a generous amount of bean sprouts, jalapeño, bay leaves and cilantro. A couple of limes sort though.
Would only go here if too lazy to drive anywhere else when Golden Deli is closed, which is why I came. -

Los Angeles, CA
Right across the street from Golden Deli, this is the alternative place you can go to for Pho if you're willing to settle for food that isn't quite as good but won't have nearly as long a line. I usually come here when my friend wants to grab a quick bite over his lunch break. I believe Vietnam House is owned by the same owner as Golden Deli because the menu is nearly identical to that.
Once again, let me remind other readers that Pho isn't my favorite type of food. It can be good on a chilly day though. I don't really know how to judge how good the dish is; my criteria would be if the bowl has good meat, cartilage, intestine, noodles that aren't overly soggy, and soup that is flavorful, it's alright by me. And that's why I come here. (Besides being dragged here by friends). Their #1 item on the menu fits this description. Oh, my friend Eugene wants me to remind all of you to be sure to order the fried egg rolls with your #1. That way you can enjoy an awesome appetizer dish as well.
I do have a minor complaint about one of the server working here the other day. My friends and I had finished paying the bill and had been given our change. We sat there at our table talking for a while since my friend still had a few minutes before he had to go back to work. Our server decides to come over to collect his tip which was fine but he started counting the cash right in front of us, bill by bill. Maybe it's just me but I find it rude and unprofessional for a service person to be blatantly counting his tip right when the patrons who are giving them the tip are still present in front of him. If he really couldn't wait, he should have taken the check, walked to the cashier station, and counted it there. -

I love this place when I crave 7-course beef. The 7-course beef is delicious and fun to eat (with the hands!). The price is very reasonable, good parking, and usually no wait!

This place use to be good but today I ordered bun bo hue to go and it wasn't that great... The broth was a little sweet and the meat had too much fat. (nem nuong ninh hoa restaurant on Rosemead is better!).
However, their 7 course beef is delicious! -

This is the place to come to when Golden Deli is either closed or super packed and you just cant wait for your Pho or EGGROLLS!
Their food is almost as good; you can definitely satisfy your Golden Deli cravings here. There is almost never a wait or only a short one and I find the service to be OK. Only problem is the parking lot gets packed often and it is hard to find parking.
I think this place is affiliated with Golden Deli so its pretty similar. Refer to Golden Deli review for further info =) -
Review from Grace C.
My default place in SGV to go to for Vietnamese food. My staples include an order of their fried egg rolls (wrapped in lettuce and dipped in fish sauce) and the vermicelli noodles (banh) or the broken rice with charboiled pork, shrimp paste, and egg rolls (all smothered in fish sauce--my choice). On cold rainy days, I like ordering a bowl of their pho. They're not as packed as Golden Deli, so you don't have to wait forever to get seated and get your food. There are three brothers that own Vietnamese restaurants--one at Golden Deli, one here at Vietnam House, and the other at the place a little further east on Las Tunas, so the food is good at all places.

My daughter's Vietnamese friend turned her onto this place when she lived in Temple City. So as we drove in her old stomping grounds, we decided to have some lunch here.
Customer service is not their forte, but I do not expect any at a Vietnamese restaurant so it didn't bother me.
I had my standard pho with tripe and my daughter had the vermicelli with chicken. And we decided to order the deep fried spring rolls. OMG, everything was sooooo good. I eat Vietnamese a lot and I am very particular about the flavors. This place had the saltiness just right, the spices just right and the noodles just right. For under $20, we enjoyed our meal and drinks (coke and beer). You cannot go wrong with that.
If you are in this area, stop by and eat here. It will be worth it. YUMMMMMMM. -
Review from Briget P.
By far the worst service I have ever had in SGV. We politely asked for waters for our big group LITERALLY 10 times, no joke. Every time we asked someone, they would say okay then run and go do something else. What does it take for a sista to get some water around here?!?
Pho Tai was decent and all but took foreverrr to come out. The water situation was ridiculous, I can't get over it. I wanted to jump over the counter and start pouring the glasses myself.
If anyone has a better suggestion for a good Pho place in SGV, let me know because when I visit here for hangover-Pho, I always get the short end of the stick! -

I'm only give 5 stars for the egg rolls. Since I always order that, I have to base the rating on the the egg rolls since that is what they are famous for. I just wonder what kind of oil they use.

Hands down my favorite place for Pho in LA. Consistently amazing beef broth (and not too cinnamony), ample soup aromatics, tasty egg rolls and never over crowded. Cheap prices too!

Temple City, CA
Had some great pho here, but it is a place that has seen better days. I was there with two friends who are regulars.
The pho is purportedly good some days and not others. But when I was there it was tasty as can be. They even brought out separate plates of sprouts, mint, cilantro, lime, etc. geat stuff.
What was a disappointment was that one of my friends ordered a rice dish that was served a full 5 minutes prior to my bowl of pho and then another 2 minutes went by before my other friend got her pho.
The decor looked like something out of the 90s and was low end teal black and white... The table was sticky too when we sat down, but none the less the food was good...
Will I go back on my own accord nahhhh... if friends went I would likely go join them...
thus it earned a 3 star i guess... but not all that enthusiastically...Listed in: My Neighborhood

It's basically the legacy of the GOlden Deli. I've been coming here since I was really young, and still frequent it often.
Staff is fast, blunt, but get the job done.
(Warning: no uniforms, so be careful not to offend a passerby for a cup of water hha)
Prices:5-9$ for the most part, drinks 1-3.
Credit card is only usable for purchases over $10.
I wish I could say more, but you just got to try it. -

I went to Vietnam House last Saturday after a night of heavy drinking. I guess winning bp means losing because I gotta handle all that foam and beer but whatevz! 5-0. #undftd
Woke up the next day feelin pretty wretched. Not hungover...but sthuper hungry. My friend's sister suggested Vietnam House and off we went. I was impressed with the extensive menu but decided to play it safe with a pho dish to help ease the pounding in my head (and belly). I ordered the Pho Dac Biet (special) and prepared myself for the soothing and healing powers of pho.
One of the things I noticed was the intense amount of time it took for the waiter to take our drink orders and then to bring them out. We had to ask them 2-3 times for our drinks! After we asked the first time, our waiter hella waved us off and said they were coming. That was sorta rude.
Eventually the pho came and we were happy to eat. Too bad it took a whole 10 minutes for all the food to come out. They even forgot one of the pho dishes. By the time all the plates came out, one of our homie's food was already getting cold. MEHHHHHH.
I wish I could say something nice about the pho but I would be lying. It was mediocre. The meat was meager (aka they were invisible or not there). There was way too much banh pho (noodle). The limes were some of the hardest mfckn limes I had ever squeezed (meaning they're old as balls). The broth was decent and the veggies looked alive and they had the satay sauce on had.
Sorry, maybe next time. -

Wtf, I use to love this place but damn one of the workers there seemed like an ass. Made everyone in the group all mad and shit lol but the other workers were cool. I order the broken rice dish, com tam something with meatballs, it was decent size I guess, I remember it being bigger, oh well, i'd still come here cause the food is still decently good

I love the Pho, Eggrolls and Bun. Same food as Golden Deli across the street (same owners) but also has Seven Courses of Beef (bring lots of friends) and you can pay with a Credit Card. Usually no wait as well.

Pros: Good food for inexpensive prices
Cons: Because business gets busy, the waiters can sometimes walk right past you when you want their attention.
Also, when you get your side of veggies, look closet at them. You don't want to accidentally eat a tiny slug. I happened to find a live one on a mint leaf tonight. -

Another excellent Vietnamese restaurant right next to Golden Deli across the street. Highly recommend it here too! Parking is a little tight though. The lot is rather small, but street parking is always an option. The Pho is excellent here! Spring rolls is another recommendation too. There's usually no wait here because the rastaurant is pretty spacious.
Customer service isn't too memorable, so it's not good or bad. Great place for Vietnamese food! -

My stable place for pho. But I must admit. I've been cheating on you with someone else. I won't tell you who. But everytime my family come here. We leave with MSG dry mouth.
I'll be back from time to time. Easy on the MSG and we should be back more consistently. Everything is good here. -

Alhambra, CA
If I want to have Vietnamese food in the SGV, this is typically my first choice. Golden Deli across the street is actually my first choice but there is typically a long wait there and a friend told me a while back that Vietnam House were owned by the same family and had the same menu. There's actually another one called Saigon Flavor on Valley and Del Mar in Alhambra that apparently are owned by the same family as well and frankly, all three are equally good to me and their menus are almost identical. They have very good egg rolls because they make it with rice paper and it fries to a bubbly crispy goodness. Their clear glass noodle in seafood broth is really good too. And their vermicelli and rice dishes are a steal. Actually all the dishes here is a steal, I have to say Vietnamese food is one that you get the most bang for your buck, you get sooo much food for $7 or less. I definitely recommend this place to anyone who likes Vietnamese food and don't want to wait too long to get a table.

Review from Peter N.
FOOD: this authentic Vietnamese place does many things well, including soups, sandwiches, and noodles, but I think their best dishes are the broken rice with pork chop and quiche and the curry with fresh french bread. I like the fact that the Vietnamese iced coffee is still served from the dripper and highly recommend their smoothies.
SERVICE: is what you would expect from a typical Asian restaurant which is to say not highly attentive, but they get the job done. It's not bad, but neither is it notable.
LOCATION & AMBIANCE: it's located in the heart of San Gabriel and the interior is decent, but nothing special.
VALUE: is very good for the quality and quantity of food that you get. -
Review from Nicole L.
7 courses of beef and pho in one place, count me in!
PARKING: Small lot on the east side for your convenience. Always loving the free parking.
SERVICE: I'm super shocked when I read about the poor service here! I guess I always come when the owner is there, and he's such a sweetheart. He knows my good friend by name and can always guess what he wants! I guess the young waiters and waitresses are a bit spotty here, but the owner is the best!
FOOD: Pho here is standard (delicious!), and the seven courses of beef ranks pretty well on my list. My friend loves their egg rolls and orders them EVERYTIME. They must be good?
CLEANLINESS: It seemed fine to me, but the bathrooms were a bit wanky. Mehhhhhh :(
Would come here out of convenience! -

Inside the same mini-mall as Luscious Dumplings, in the Shity of San Gabriel, you'll find the locally renowned Vietnam House. The menu is quite extensive with typical Vietnamese items including banh mi, pho, rice with charbroiled meats. Unlike most local Vietnamese places, VH has beer! Hoody Hoo!
The beef stew with bread I had was decent and tasted very authentic. I would probably try something different next time, perhaps a banh mi.
Service was less than optimal, waiters seemed somewhat aloof. -

Food is just OK though the price is good. However, the service is terrible and painfully slow. We sat down for almost 10 minutes before someone came by (after we waved him down) to take our order. Then that waiter completely neglected my husband's order...we thought he was listening and writing down the order. My Dad and I were practically done with our food by the time they finally brought my husband's food. They clearly forgot or lost the order. The manager grumbled "it took too long" when he finally brought my husband's noodle soup. Seriously? Thanks for stating the obvious, buddy. An apology would've been more appropriate. Too many other good places in L.A. so probably won't come back here anytime soon.

This place is tucked away in a plaza across from Happy Tea on Las Tunas and Mission. Parking is tight around dinner time, but if you can get a parking spot here, its all gravy.
---
Here's the scoop: Party of 9 totally fit lion dancers, 4 orders of the course beef menu, a round of cold drinks and a stack of empty plates.
7 Course beef here was deliciously good, affordable and I could probably sit here by myself and pig out if I was hungry enough. Its much more fun to squabble over food with your team mates right?!
Spring rolls were huge! If you don't know how to make your own Vietnamese burrito, suit yourself because I'm not helping you! xP
End result? SATISFACTION!!! -
Review from Jennifer W.

Food wasn't so great today... I've been coming to Vietnam House for years, my grand aunt and uncle like this place a lot.
This dishes my party ordered today just weren't up to par. My tomato egg vermicelli soup (bun rieu) was super sweet. The beef slices in the pho was hard to chew. The egg rolls were okay. Each dish came with plenty of vegetables, but not all of it was the freshest so we had to pick and choose the pieces we put with out meal. The hot tea was brewed too long and very bitter.
The servers who are younger are friendlier than the older ones. Will I be back? Probably, but it's not going to be my first preference for Vietnamese food. Maybe they'll redeem themselves if I come back for 7 course of beef.
This visit - 2.5 stars
Overall - 3 stars -

Is ownership changed here??????
Vietnam house has been one of our favorite restaurants forever.
Great food, great staff, family-friendly. Great restaurant.
(how many asian restaurants have diaper changing station?)
The owner(or one of the owners) was related with Golden Deli owner/owners.
We went to Vietnam house a few days ago. Something's changed.
I didn't see any familiar face. Very, very unfriendly staff.
Menu's been changed as well. They added "Pho Tai Filet" which is a pho tai with filet mignon. -
Review from Peter C.
Even though we had just recently been to Golden Deli, curiosity got the better of me and I wanted to try Vietnam House. Somehow I remember hearing that Vietnam House and Golden Deli have the same owners, so I'm really not sure what I was expecting.
The condensed version is that by far, our favorite local Vietnamese restaurant is Saigon Eden. I got the pho tai - it had a very average taste. We also got an order of the summer rolls (the ones not fried). Something was definitely missing... they only tasted good when put in sauce, and most summer rolls aren't like that. If you have the summer rolls from Saigon Bakery, those taste incredible without any sauce! So I'm not sure if the herbs and basil weren't as fresh, or they just didn't put enough, but something was definitely off. Mrs. C's rice vermicelli with pork was good, but even she said Saigon Eden's version is better.
So *maybe* we'll give the 7 courses of beef at Vietnam House a shot, but otherwise I'm pretty sure Mrs. C and I will be going to Saigon Eden a lot more often. -

3rd update, specifically for their 7 course beef. Different beef courses, each prepared a different way, that you wrap in lettuce and an assortment of veggies. It's awesome if you feel like engaging in some beef gluttony. At the end there's a porridge/soup dish to make you feel better about the fact that you've just consumed 6 courses of beef. We ordered 2 servings between the 3 of us (me, mom, and dad) and it was more than sufficient. Yarghhhhyummmm.

I've been coming to this place for years; I used to go to Golden Deli before I discovered this place. I prefer this place over Golden Deli due to parking and wait time.
To me, the food between this place and Golden Deli are very similar, although my guess is they use MSG at Golden Deli (because I get extremely thirsty after I had their soup).
They also have 7 course beef here, which I believe Golden Deli does not have.
The bottom line is, they can't beat the restaurants at Little Saigon. -

Really good shaken beef.
The stewed beef is ok but not that great.
Their Pork spring rolls are pretty good, real fatties.
Sandwiches are ok for the price
They seem to use broken rice on all their dishes.
Need to try the pho next time. -

This place used to be so much better. My friend and I only came here because Golden Deli was closed.
Charbroiled pork and egg rolls vermicelli - vermicelli was hard and cold! charbroiled pork was really fatty and really charred! ick...
totally disappointed.
The only good thing are their egg rolls.
service: pretty slow and not very attentive. -

Bumped down a star for smaller pho portions, having greasy menus, and skimpy dessert-drinks. Service declined as well.... Yes, I'm here with a big group. Yes, we're not-middle-aged, but Yes, we can afford pho too. No need to rush the bill and hawk over it.1 Previous Review: Show all »

Review from Jenna C.
We decided to try something new on a Friday night near 9pm, when we were looking for a small, quick meal. (By the way... they were open past 9pm on a Friday.) I ordered the wonton soup (around $5), and Casey ordered a noodle bowl with pork. Casey was pleased with his noodle bowl, which came with a tasty sauce - probably the highlight of the dish. He mentioned he expected some more veggies, since the menu said there were fresh veggies... but I guess they were just referring to some green onions and a little lettuce.
The wonton soup was ok. The broth was tasty, and the greens that came in the soup were probably the best part (some sort of cabbage and green onion). The wonton themselves were a little soggy. Probably won't revisit this place, since there are so many better options. Also, it wasn't that clean.
They do have the make-your-own spring roll entree that looked good on a nearby table!
