I'll admit it, this used to be my home course. Victoria is like Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer or Tecate. When I'm broke and I need to get my alcohol fix in, I'll drive by the nearest 7-11 and pickup the cheapest beer I can find. I throw it down, get my buzz and I'm satisfied. That is what Victoria Golf Course is for me. I'm running out of money, and I'm frustrated and all I want to do is take out my frustrations on a Titleist Pro V1 golf ball. So late in the afternoon, I'll pay $11 (the super twilight rate) and play a quick nine or more. Once I finished my round, I had my golf fill...I'm happy and ready to take on the real world.

Victoria is a nice cheap course to play. There's nothing really special about, except for the nice Par 5's, really long Par 4's and the one drivable Par 4. It's not maintained well and after a rainstorm, there are some lakes left behind on the course. Golf rules say that those giant puddles is casual water and you can take a free drop no nearer the hole.

I'll tell you what, if this course was maintained really well and had more money put into it...it could be an awesome course. Seriously. It gets crowded most of the day and on the weekends, they put out fivesomes. So a lot like Los Verdes, expect 6 hour rounds. Last, in the afternoons, there are prevailing winds, and they can be deadly. So be warned, take extra club in the late afternoons.

So when in the South Bay and you want to get your golf on. Take the Avalon exit on the 405 and drive a mile north and you'll see the Victoria Golf Course after Del Amo Blvd.

Big bang for the buck!
It's $28 to walk on weekends. Green is in a good shape, not many trees, but there are other feature to penalize balls outside fairways.

However, there always seems to be a slow group... those who zig zag the ball across the hole... If you are one of them, don't play on weekeds or be considerate and pick up the ball to move on.

Also, too many tee times seem to be 'sold.' I can get tee times for this course anywhere else but the pro shop at 5:00AM on a Saturday (for next Saturday).

Not as good now, as when it reopened.  Still not too bad, except for the constant strong wind in the afternoon and the really bad smell from the the trash dump a mile or so away.  Greens are ok , but the fairways are starting to get thin in places, looks like the same damage from methane that they had before they redid it.  Some really challenging holes, like #13, next to the freeway, into the wind and plays at least 175 yards, that's into the wind!! Just try to pick the right club.  Staff is pretty helpful and the place isn't as dreadfully slow as Los Verdes, so I'll be back ,soon...

This course is FLAT, it has hardly any trees. The greens are ok but the fairways are pretty thin on grass.... you'll most likely hit from dirt many times in your round. The afternoon winds are strong and there is a ravine that comes into play on a couple of holes in the back. I love thinning a 3 wood 150 yards in the air and getting another 100 yards of roll, haha. Victoria is cheap, the waits aren't as long and it's a good place to practice your swing.
