This place is top notch-- got that urban gastropub feel with a full bar, delicious small plates menu, and unique drinks. Top advice for eating there: go with a big group so you can try more food! Unfortunately, I only went with the boyfriend, so 4 items off the menu was plenty for us.
Ahi tuna nachos, short ribs, lamb lollipops, and the crab mac n cheese all were show stoppers in my mouth. Both the short ribs and lamb chops had awesome sauces on them (no joke, had to stop the bar staff like 6 times from taking our empty lamb chops plate because we were still dipping stuff in the sauce). The ahi tuna nachos were some of the best I've had--the fish tasted fresh and they really gave huge chunks of tuna for each "nacho". Everything came out fast, and hot.
Drinks-- waitress was very knowledgeable and helped me amp up the French 75 (combo gin, champagne, some other good stuff) by recommending to order it with muddled strawberries.
Great place. I'll be back... but with a bigger group next time!
I cannot join the Yelp cult of Victor Tango's. It was good, but not great. The small plates are interesting, but there was nothing that I tried that blew me out of the water. The drinks were definitely the highlight on our trip to VT.
We went with some fellow Yelpers who adore VT's. Some of the small plates we shared were: the hamburger tacos, crab mac and cheese, chicken and waffles, the shrimp and grits, and all of the desserts on the menu. The cuisine selections were fine, but it was not nearly as 'special' as I was expecting. I was a bit disappointed after hearing all of the hype.
We arrived early to beat the crowd, so there was no wait. Within an hour of our arrival, the wait looked very long. The atmosphere started out quite nice, and an easy conversation could be had with the others at the table. As the crowd started rolling in, the music started cranking up and it became more of a 'clubby' kind of place. We could no longer talk without yelling.
If I was in my 20's, this kind of place might hold more appeal to me. Now that I am almost 40, my restaurant preferences lean more toward romantic, quiet, chef owned restaurants. I just don't do trendy anymore.
I'll get to the point since there are so many reviews already...
Atmosphere and decor: 5 stars
Drinks: 4 stars (Lightning Bug w/sweet tea vodka = yums!)
Service: 4 stars
Wait for a table: 1star (over an hour on a Thursday night)
Food: 4.5 stars
-Chicken and waffles: 5 stars (best thing on the menu!)
-Crab mac n jack w/pancetta: 4 stars
-Braised short ribs: 3 stars (too dry, too "normal" nothing special)
-Prime burger: heard it was 5 stars (and surprisingly small)
-Sweet potato fries: 4 stars
-Lobster BLT sliders: heard it was 5 stars (i don't like lobster)
-Crock of warm goat cheese dip: 3.5 stars (didn't care for the bread they bring w/it)
-Miso glazed skewers: 3.5 stars (wouldn't order again, but was flavorful enough)
Overall, fab new restaurant that i had a great time at and will def go back next time i'm in town.
Finally went to VT's a couple months ago for a girls dinner and it was good, but not 5 stars you are my new favorite place good. The drinks were pretty good - the lightning bug was my favorite but I tried a love potion and it was good as well but not AS good to me.
We got a huge variety of food to share - my favorite was the chicken and waffles by far (and the reason this was 4 stars and not 3). The only thing I would change about this would be to order the gravy on the side so it didn't make my chicken soggy. The maple syrup was an awesome touch. The green beans were also good. The braised short rib pot stickers were pretty delish also. I wasn't a fan of the hanger steak at all. Everything else at the table had seafood so I can't vouch for any of that. The Warm Sticky Toffee Cake was also good, but not amazing by any means.
Our waitress wasn't superb either. She completely avoided us for the last 10 minutes of happy hour even though we had told her we wanted to order another round before it ended and even though we sent someone over to get her so we could order. We had to argue our way to a round of $1 off cocktails which was really irritating to me.
I'll be back someday but with so many other amazing choices around it won't be right away.
Victor Tango's has a good, warm, happy hour after a long day at the office feel to it with young professionals drinking it up and talking loud. The server was happy, personable, cute, and had good menu knowledge. I took my wife there on a date and we were instantly satisfied by the atmosphere when we walked to our table.
We had the goat cheese dip, the baby artichokes with fried rosemary aioli, and the brussels sprouts with pancetta.
The most memorable things about these three dishes was how undercooked the brussels sprouts were and the stark contrast of how interesting these items looked on the menu compared to how lack luster they were once in my mouth.
The goat cheese dip tasted a lot like warm goat cheese and nothing more.
The baby artichokes were fine but the fried rosemary aioli tasted like mayo with a light dash of lemon juice. I wanted aromatic rosemary craziness from that aioli but was really disappointed.
And the brussels sprouts. The brussels sprouts were cooked about two minutes past raw and despite the pancetta lacked seasoning in the most noticable way.
I would return to Victor Tango's for drinks and atmosphere but am unlikely to try any other menu items except for the chicken and waffles but only because it was mentioned in so many other reviews.
Oh Victor...you had me a chicken-waffles.
We decided to try Victor Tango's on a Friday night just to see what it was all about. I was not really dressed for the crowd, but thankfully, here that doesn't matter.
The drinks were fabulous and well poured. Our food was delicious and even better the next day (you bet I took those chicken-waffles home). We ordered enough for four people and between the two of us we only ate for three. :) So delicious, I'm craving it right now.
Very helpful staff and clean restaurant.
Be sure to get the goat cheese dip and get ready to eat it all! So good.
I came into town on a Friday and based on the Yelp reviews for the this joint, decided to try it out with a buddy. Overall, Victor Tango's has a great vibe and good food. Also, the waitress and bartenders were better than most places. We had some drinks and ate lobster BLT sliders, chicken and waffles, and pancetta wrapped shrimp with polenta. The sliders and chicken and waffles are certainly unique and memorable. I'd definitely go back to this place next time I'm in town.
Ya know, if you have good mac and cheese, you have my heart. I heart Victor Tango's.
I went around 6pm on Friday so it was not crowded. We were seated promptly and our waitress was super nice.
Most of the menu is sharing plates. I love this concept because you can try so many things.
We started with the lobster sliders. If you know lobster you know it is bland. Fortunately, Victor Tango's added some taste to it. They put it on Hawaiian Rolls and added tomatoes. Very tasty.
We then ordered the calamari. It was good but a little greasy.
We ended with the Crab, Mac & Jack Gratin with Pancetta (mac and cheese). OMG! So good!
The location is great, service is good, good is excellent and decently priced! I will return!
4.5 stars. Went here with a group for the wifes birthday party and had a great time. The plus about going with a group is you get to munch on a little of everything. Here's a little breakdown.
First course 1.ahi tuna nachos were good, i'm usually not an ahi person 2.hamachi sashimi-poor delicate fish was pummeled by a crappy daikon slaw 3.tempura green beans- good crispy breading with a great sauce. Second course 1. Hanger steak-well complimented by the roquefort. 2+3. Miso glazed beef and sea bass-one of my favorites although i'm a sucker for miso. Sides-frech fries were great, mac and cheese is a standout! Corn with the hearts of palm....not so much:( As far as the booze goes the firefly rocks as does the allagash white and the black butte porter. The ommegang was kinda meh.
Still Cool.
I have been to this establishment quite a few times but found out i haven't written a review about the place yet. I love the fact that the exterior looks very innocent but as you walk in the big black door its like a carnival going on on some nights. They have a giant Chair to the left as you enter.
On my last visit, I went with my brother who was visiting from England, an old friend and two lady friends. The plan was to sit at the bar but there werent enough bar stools so we ended up on some round table looking like a Mafia/Owners table.
Some of the folks ordered the Victor Tangos Signature drink which tasted more like a Caiprinha. I had a Blue Moon on Tap which was just fine.
The food is served Tapa's style so we proceeded with ordering the Ahi Tuna Nachos which is a favorite of mine, We also tried the Mini Cheeseburger Tacos which i must say is a hand ful but tasty. We also dabbled into the Mango-Avocado Shrimp which was also very tasty, My Favorite so far was the Lollypop Lambchops. The lamb was soft and very tasty. I think we had a few more items off the menu that were very tasty indeed but i forgot to order the Chicken and Waffles this time but nonetheless its a great choice.
It seems Victor Tangos has the elements of being a pick up bar atimes. The Bartenders are well coordinated and super friendly to the ladies making the bar pretty popular and i noticed a lot of men preying on women of all ages at the bar.
The only reason i didnt give Victor Tangos a 5 star was because of the Flat screens all over the place. I figured they were trying to get the Sunday and Monday nite Football crowd too but at an establishment that Chic , the last thing you want your date doing is being dristracted by some stupid ESPN show while you are trying to get to know him/her.
Part 3 of what's turning into a LONG series of Dallas firsts.
Lessee where to start. Valet is free, that's a plus. Everything about this place oozes coolness except that the A/C was out for this evening. No matter, we sat at the bar and I eagerly awaited tryin a real scratch-made drink. I originally had my sights on the Gold Rush but the Anejo Fashioned caught my eye - an old fashioned with Anejo tequila. Good mix of bitter, sweet, and alkyhol. Also got to try the Victor Tango itself and it was way good - minty, refreshing, and sweet, i.e. reeeeeeal easy to lose track and get bombed on that one.
So we sat down and started ordering different dishes left and right, just passed everything around and took a bite. Since I'm new to the uptown/downtown dives I thought it'd be a great idea to get my paws on some items that fewer others have tried. For one item in particular this turned out to be a mistake - the roasted marrow bones. BLECH that's a grisly bloody gelatinous disaster there. Acquired taste is an understatement from my end. The onion confit covered up the bad taste a bit but for something unhealthly they could've just sauteed those onions with large quantities of butter. Or lard. Or bacon fat.
Hold the phone - this place serves Niman Ranch pork belly ....
At any rate, everything else we got was pure awesomeness. Ahi Tuna nachos - fresh fish and a single slice of jalapeno with attitude, nuf said. At first glance the cheeseburger tacos looked like small party tacos from Bueno with a lot of cheese but one bite proved otherwise in the flavor department. I didn't think I'd care for the tempura green beans much but rarely do you get to eat your vegetables like this, especially with wasabi aioli.
Chicken & Waffles were everything that all the previous reviews said they were. Seasoned chicken + waffle = awesome, then add gravy = fantabulous, then dip that in warm syrup that would never be mistaken for Mrs butterworths = perfection. Short Rib pot stickers surprised me, nothing inside but tender strands of marinated meat that could be chewed by a toothless geezer and the right size to be a good mouthful. Hanger Steak - Just a little char on the outside, dark pink on the inside. That's seriously good beef there and if you happen to get a bite of that with the charred pickled onions (sweet & tart) and the smooth Roquefort cheese at the same time, HELL YEA.
I'm still kicking myself for not ordering the red & gold beet salad or any dessert, but I doubt anyone didn't make it back here a second and third time.
Victor Tango's is all about Comfort Food. I usually prefer a type of place with healthier cuisine (i.e. grilled chicken rather than fried), but I was out celebrating my friend's bday with a bunch of girls so I figured I'd give it a chance. First off, VT needs to fire their hosts/hostesses because they clearly weren't doing a good job. Granted, it was a Saturday night, but we called ahead to put our name on the list (since we were a party of 9) only to find that we were in fact NOT on the list when we arrived. We waited over an hour in the crowded and narrow bar area and grabbed a few cocktails . The food ended up being alright, but if I'm going to head to the Henderson area, I'd definitely choose Hibiscus (amazing food and service!!) over this place.
A really loud and trendy place to hang. I hope the drinks are better than the food.
I was really excited to try this place-- after all it's in my hood and the Yelper's seem to love it. For all the delightfully tempting menu prose, the execution was meh! Chicken and waffles are just that - nothing special. The lobster sandwiches were okay. The best thing we tried were the pot stickers and the pork belly. It was such a nonexperience I don't recall if we had dessert or not.
Service was great, but I'd have to hold my fellows here accountable to the reality. It's probably a great place to meet friends for a drink, collect a few numbers, and then head on to something else that can deliver the goods - not just pen a great sounding menu.
Came here with a big group for a birthday party on a Friday night about 9pm- Bad Idea!! The entire bar area was so jam packed that you couldn't even squeeze between people to order a drink. It took my fiance about 15 minutes just to get the bartenders' attention. Waiting for the rest of our party to arrive was uncomfortable since we felt like we were in the way. Once we did get seated it was actually not bad and I noted that the place really emptied out about 12 and with that, the atmosphere was different and improved! I read the menu but nothing appealed to me and I admit that I am a picky eater so the fare didn't sound very appetizing- Hello- Bone marrow and toast? I ended up just getting cheese fries. Nice place but not the kind of place for me.
I think I OD'd on food. I would describe the food as gourmet fast food. All the yummy stuff you liked as a kid but all grown up and turned up a notch. Favorites were the stadium pretzels, chicken and waffles, cheeseburger tacos, hanger steak, porkbelly, and on and on. The drinks on the menu were fantastic as well -- stiff but tasty. It's not the type of place you would have a nice quiet one on one dinner but it's perfect for groups and the vibe was buzzing. Good music selections and the service was A-grade.
I feel like I'm not in Dallas every time I come here, the vibe is just a bit different than most other spots and I like that. The food is great, chicken and waffles will blow you away. Drinks will get you in trouble, too good to be honest I could come here monthly and not tire.
Just met a new friend here. It had that western-cowboy- ambiance... very laid back but cool. I really liked it. She lives walking distance to this place... it's next to one of my most favorite restaurants in Dallas..."Hibiscus". I love how enormous the bar was.., with the comfy bar stools and super friendly bartenders.
I had the DeLoach Pinot Noir.... from Russian River.... amazing. Can't go wrong with that Cali wine.
Supposedly a perfect spot to start prior to going to the Candle Room.
This place is just doing everything it can to take over as my #1 favorite place in DFW.
The last time I was there I had a Mixed Grill with Miso Glazed Steak and Seabass. Two of my co-diners ordered the same things they had my first trip there. The other two new dishes were the Stadium Pretzels and Fried Calamari.
The Pretzels were soft and warm and salty with beer cheese dip. The Tempura Fried Calamari was delicious but surprising when we realized that there were also Tempura Pepperoncini Peppers and Tempura Lemon Slices.
But... Megumi introduced me to another drink.. the Love Potion # 9. Victor Tangos now has my #2 and #3 favorite drinks in the metroplex. Kenny's ... your status as my favorite place in town might be in trouble.

I finally made it to Victor Tango's last night.
First of all, let me just say... I have never been… Read more »
Yeah, this is a hip, happening, trendy, and crowded place that has free valet service. But this review is just about the important things, like food, and uh, I guess that's it!
The chicken and waffles were good, but why did they pour the gravy and syrup on before serving? The resulting soggy waffles were gross. The chicken and gravy was outstanding, though!
The lamb lollipops were delicious, but there was a lot of fat on those little suckers. Taking a bite out of the first one and getting mostly fat was far from awesome. But the lamb was flavorful and tender, and the honey balsamic sauce was money.
We ordered the crab mac and cheese without pancetta, since we don't dine on swine. I guess the kitchen didn't realize that something should compensate without the salty pancetta, because we got a really creamy, but bland mac and cheese.
Of course we saved room for dessert, so we ordered the toffee cake. It was super sweet and there wasn't really anything special about the taste. So yeah, that was a miss.
Overall, the food was good, so we're glad we went. However, there are many other places in Big D that we still want to try, so we probably won't be back for awhile.
Going to Victor Tango's on Friday night turned out to be one of the best experiences I've had so far in Dallas. I've decided to give it 5 stars because of the overall experience, so this rating isn't based solely on their food. I made a reservation for 7, but only 5 us arrived on time. The hostess was accommodating, though, and sat us at our table so we could wait for the others. While we were waiting, we decided to order the cheeseburger tacos, the mango shrimp dip, and several drinks to get started. The tacos were pretty good, not great. I loved the mango shrimp dish. I could have eaten the whole thing by myself. We pretty much decided to do a tour de Victor Tango's (drinks and all), so we ordered the chicken and waffles, ahi tuna nachos, lollypop lambchops, and braised short rib pot stickers for all of us to share. The lambchops were by far my favorite. My mouth waters just thinking about their deliciousness. The pot stickers were really good, as were the tuna nachos. I wasn't a huge fan of the chicken and waffles. I thought the waffles were overdone, although the 3 men at my table sharply disagreed with me and loved the dish.
Now, the drinks. They're all made from scratch and they're honestly some of the best drinks in Dallas. The pomegranate gimlet was soooo good - very fresh, fruity, and refreshing. The Victor Tango was fantastic. I ended up stealing it from my boyfriend after taking a sip. The corpse reviver surprised me. The name led me to believe that it would be too hardcore and, therefore, not enjoyable - but I was totally wrong. Super good. The pepper smash also surprised me. I didn't think I'd like a drink based around red bell pepper but again, I was wrong. It's an unusual but very good cocktail.
Lastly, I'd like to review the staff. It's not unusual to encounter a rude hostess or waiter when dining at one these super popular restaurants in this part of town. Instead, on a busy Saturday night, the hostess immediately sat our party even though we were still missing a few people. Then she came over to our table about 10 minutes later, stating that a large reservation had just canceled, and offered to move us into the big, round booth at the center of the restaurant. Also, my friend can only eat gluten-free meals, so the waitress talked to the chef, then starred all of the items on the menu that were safe for her to eat. She was extremely helpful when we asked for suggestions, and was very kind and attentive throughout our meal.
I can't recommend Victor Tango's enough. We took our friends that were in town from LA, and they loved the experience just as much as we did. Looooove it!
I finally made it to Victor Tango's this weekend!! I've been dying to eat here since it opened and I have to say, we came under the best possible circumstances... A friend of ours is a local restauranteur who apparently has a little pull. So we were oh so luckily able to cruise right past the 90 minute wait at 8:30 Saturday night to a cozy booth toward the back of the restaurant. Nice.
We started with cocktails, of course, and I had the Lightening Bug -- made with Firefly vodka, honey, ginger, mint and goodness knows what else... it was cool and refreshing and delicious! While I could have guzzled them all night, I only had two so I could remain coherent enough to enjoy the amazing food.
There were 4 of us, so we ordered A LOT.... ahi tuna nachos, lobster blt sliders, mango avocado shrimp. tempura green beans, lambchops, mussels and finally the crab mac & cheese. The mussels were my least favorite as they just didn't taste like much, and hadn't absorbed any of the broth. Won't be ordering those again. The green beans were okay, but the rest of the food was pretty amazing. The lobster sliders were creamy and delicious on the most amazing rolls ever. The shrimp and ahi nachos were both fresh and crisp and yummy. Lambchops were juicy and perfectly cooked.
Now for the crab macaroni & cheese... Oh my, where to begin. I LOVE mac & cheese. I order it pretty much any time it's on the menu, and I make it at home on a regular basis. This, my friends and fellow mac lovers, was macaroni and cheese at it's most glorious. It was creamy and sinfully rich. Just enough bread crumb topping and while there weren't crab meat chunks, per se, the crab flavor throughout the dish was just enough to make this a dish I know I'm going to be getting full on cravings for.
We were super impressed with VT's but will likely be back during the week next time to avoid some of the crazy crowds... although I may be willing to wait a while for a bowl of that macaroni!!
So me and about 10 of my friends hit up Victor Tango's for my farewell party (sorry guys, I've relocated to NY!). None of us had ever been here before and I'd been DYING to try it.
For a cocktail, I ordered a lightning bug. It was just the right amount of sweet and citrus. 3 of my friends tasted it and they all got one.
For nosh, we all ordered a smörgsbord of food to get a taste of everything....this consisted of:
chicken & waffles
pretzels with beer cheese fondue
cheeseburger tacos
ahi tuna nachos
YUM. Everyone was raving! I loved everything and so did my friends. They all said they were going to come back without me :(
I am just sad that I finally tried this place 2 days before I left....
This review is LONG overdue. I went here in May to celebrate my birthday with the hubby, my sister and her hubby. After reading the reviews, I was a little worried about getting a table on Friday night, so I called ahead to make a reservation. I was very impressed with the level of service from my very first phone call. It turns out they are very strict on taking reservations, only taking large parties, and some other rules I can't remember. But, without any sweet talkin', the guy I was speaking with went ahead and reserved a table for my party. Super nice!
When we arrived, we were seated promptly and found all the staff to be extremely friendly. I ordered a birthday cocktail that was some kind of basil concoction and almost too pretty drink . . . . almost.
Our party of 4 ended up splitting about 5 plates and it was more than enough, as we were all taking deep breaths to get through the end of our meal. The 2 dishes that stood out the most to me were the Ahi Tuna nachos and the chicken and waffles. You can never go wrong with chicken and waffles.
I will be sure to save room for dessert the next time I am in the Big D!
Pretentious with a side of "meh".
Nothing to write home about, really. Atmosphere was very "see and be seen" and the food, while the flavor combos sounded great in writing, was really nothing to write home about. Service, however, was really good and very personable.
Apparently you go there for drinks and then any food will taste superb!
Been there just once for cocktails and had ahi tuna nachos. It's a nice bar with good eye candy, you can dress up or just be casual.
Not cheap. Good place for a drink date or the like. I want to go back when I have more money. haha.
Another place I visited because of the Yelp community and once again, I was not let down. Thank you Yelp Dallas. Victor Tango's is 'different,' and being different is hard to do in the sea-of-sameness that is Dallas dining. Local diners like uniformity among all restaurants and seek familiarity. But Victor Tango's is 'different' and probably unsuitable for those who prefer the cozy confines of a pleather booth in a mega-chain with a focus group-assembled 10-page menu. For example, each dish is what American diners would consider appetizer-sized but at entree prices, and the ingredients may be a bit obscure - daikon, lavosh, and shishito are not on the menu at Chili's. But I digress . . .
VT's succeeds at striking a difficult balance of 'bar' and 'food.' The drinks seemingly gather as much attention as does the food. The layout of both the restaurant and the menu support this: The bar (and bar area) are the first thing you see when you walk in and they take-up nearly half of the real estate. On the menu, the front page is the food and the back page is the drinks. Or is it the other way around? To deconstruct the menu, you can't tell which is the front and which is the back? Is food the focus or is the focus on the cocktails? Yes, I spend time pondering such philosophical issues because it speaks to the mission of VT: to enjoy both the food and drink.
Now, on to the food. As has been noted several times, both food and drink are some of the best in Dallas. The food is served tapas style, although there is nothing even remotely resembling Spanish cuisine. We (Dallas) are so ingrained in the huge portion size (ie, Cheesecake Factory) we can't even come up with our own concept of smaller-sized tasting dishes with shared plates without co-opting a foreign dining concept. The menu doesn't really have a theme, unless eclectic is a theme. There are Asian dishes, comfort or soul food dishes, Italian dishes. For example, my friend and I had the ceviche (Pacific coast Mexican), crab ravioli (Italian), lobster sliders (New England?), chicken-and-waffles (soul food), sea bass and Kobe (doubt it) 'surf and turf' (Japanese), and the brownie Sunday dessert (American?). The point is, the menu is all over the place and this lends itself to the purpose of VT - to try different things and share them with your friends.
I have been wanting to try out Victor Tango's for some time now, but since I live in Ft. Worth, I hadn't really found a good time to make it out, until last Friday that is.
So after little debate, I made the pilgrimage over to Dallas and when I arrived at Victor Tango's, I was very pleased to find out that the valet service was free of charge.
When we entered, the place was pretty packed to say the least, but not to worry, the hostess quoted us a modest 45 minute wait and I was excited to try out some signature martinis!
After a 45 minute wait and two delicious martinis, and yes, a slight buzz, I found my stomach craving some of the famous food from the large menu. I went to the hostess to ask how much longer we had to wait, and she said it would be about another 30 minutes... my heart sank. 30 more minutes? I wasn't sure if I could make it, but after investing 45 minutes already, I had to try! 30 minutes go by in a flash, still no table ready. Finally, after a 2 HOUR WAIT, I hear those magical words, "Josh party of 2, your table is ready" VICTORY!!!!!!!
We sit down at the table at 10pm sharp, drinks in hand and ready to order. Since we had 2 hours to salivate over the menu, we had our game plan down.
Lobster BLT Sliders, Calamari and Muscles. I usually add beef to my diet, but for some reason all we ate had swam at some point.
All of the food was perfect. I would say the sliders were my favorite, simply because I had never had a lobster slider, but for me, if you add bacon to anything, I'm gonna like it!
Amazingly, we had eaten and paid our check by 10:30, just 30 minutes after sitting down. Needless to say, the service was great once you got to the table.
I was very excited to try Victor Tangos particularly because I enjoy some of the Consilient Restaurant group's other spots including the Porch and Fireside Pies. I love tapas and the idea behind Victor Tangos is a kind of New American/Fusion of gastro pub inspired small plates with creative cocktails.
As far as the cocktails go, I am a purist so I fear that my review is not fair but I will say that I enjoyed the creations by bar tenders at Neighborhood Services far better than some of the slightly schizophrenic offerings at Victor Tangos. So after a slightly disappointing Moscow Mule, I opted for a good ol' fashioned gin gimlet with bombay saphire gin and it was perfect. Drinks may not be my style but bar tenders are first rate.
On to the food. I was sore disappointed with the lobster BLTs I kept reading about. Too much bacon, too little "lobster" flavor but I actually enjoyed the buns (which had a slight 'from the package' flavor). The ahi tuna nachos on wonton crisps were decent. I would pass on the fig and proscuitto though... figs were burned. Short rib pot stickers would be better if the casing wasn't so thick as the meat was better than mediocre but overpowered a bit by the thick deep fried wonton skins. We went with the brownie sundae after reviews of sticky toffee pudding were not that good and we were NOT disappointed - was the best thing we ordered.
Service left a bit to be desired. Our waitress kept trying to take our food. Our brownie had nuts even after we told of an allergy at the table and we got our check without requesting it after only two rounds of drinks (when we had planned to go for a third and maybe a fourth?).
All in all I would come back for drinks and sit at the bar. I would order a classic cocktail over their creations, but that is just me.
Ya know the food is dang good. Tapas that you can share with friends. The Ahi Tuna Nachos were a work of art - each individually stood on it's own - no glops of cheese making a big mess.
Potstickers are deep fried and the beef was, well, very beefy with a nice asian taste.
The best? It is a tie. Corn Salad. It is cold, but the fresh corn and tomatoes were awesome. And the grits. Ah, the grits with cheesey goodness. Perfectly cooked.
And the Moscow Mule? That is a fine adult beverage.
Valet was efficient, but man it was crazy busy for those guys. It is free, but tip em - they are working hard.
The fried chicken and waffles were a tasty combo but I wouldn't want to eat an entire plate as a meal. The chicken by itself is not that special and would not be good enough to stand on its own. The bartenders are meticulous in mixing the cocktails so the quality is very consistent. Our waitress was very nice and gave good recommendations on food. I'll definitely come back again to try more of their food.
Pros: Lamb chops (tender, succulent, and not gamey), creamy grits, and Lightning Bug cocktail.
Cons: Long wait on the weekends (I arrived around 8:15 on a Friday and waited about an hour to be seated w/ a party of 4).
There are already so many good reviews for VT that I don't want to go into overdrive, but I needed to put in my two cents. Having read all the positive reviews on Yelp, I went over the weekend for my birthday, and was definitely impressed!
One small caveat, it can get a bit pricey. I was prepared for it with the quality of the ingredients in every dish (what do you expect when you have a dish with kobe beef and sea bass?), but some of my friends were a bit put off. Now on to the review!
First of all, I agree, just Valet. It makes sense with the traffic there, is free, and is going to save you a lot of time - time that could be spent *inside* VT instead of *outside*.
The atmosphere was pretty much perfect for me. We went pretty late, at about midnight, but there was still a decent crowd inside. The lighting in general is dim (check), concentrated only where it needs to be (check), and the noise level is a calm buzz, just enough so you can have a conversation or a hearty laugh and not feel awkward (check and check).
Let's just say it...all of the food, and we almost ordered the entire menu, is pretty frickin' amazing. There's a varied selection to suit almost everyone's' tastes and all items are portioned for sharing. Of special note was the Hangar Steak cooked rare (honestly, I could be wrong, it was dark ^_^) - just wow. As for the chicken & waffles, these have to give Roscoe's a run for his money. it scares me to know that these are the best in town because it doesn't make me want to try them anywhere else...I think I'd just be disappointed elsewhere. Since it was my birthday, I received a "Warm Brownie Sundae with Henry's Vanilla Bean Ice Cream" - I liken the brownie to an iceberg; even though it seems huge above the water (or in this case, the ice cream and whipped cream), the majority of its mass is beneath. How true, haha.
I would definitely come back, and hopefully will get a chance to soon. It's a great place for a few drinks (most all of them were great; not too strong, and if you're not much of a drinker, the Passionfruit Gimlet should do well for you - just don't drink too many of them), a good night out on the town with friends, conversations, and laughs, and if you're not into the "music so loud I can't think" scene, should be added to your rotation of hang outs.
Awesome, Awesome, Awesome!
Came here last night for the first time and had a terrific time!
good luck parking, save yourself a headache and go for the valet. it's "free", just tip the man!
5/5 atmosphere (very lively and energetic, great people watching and good place to show off the new purse, shoes, etc...)
5/5 drinks! (they have happy-hour, and you get to pay $6 instead of $8. I had the peppersmash and moscow mule) funny names, but amazing drinks! yes, they are the girly-sweet-kind, but it was goooooood!
5/5 food (the portions are small but not tiny, PERFECT for sharing though). the fries were amazing, the mini burger tacos were "okay" but the lamb chops & short rib pot stickers were mind-blowing! the ahi-tuna was also AWESOME.
5/5 dessert (the brownie and ice-cream was awesome, we also had the toffee cake - it was not only HUGE, but delicious!
5/5 service (being the first time, she recommended all the drinks and food and did an amazing job, she even goofed and accidently took my drink which i was 1/2 way finished. however, she made it up and got me another full drink!)
all in all, great place! we will be back!
Victor Tangos is greatness. It's a sleek looking restaurant with a nice long bar. Everything flows into one large room with out much separation from the bar area and seating area. I liked the dark and cozy feel of the place.
Hannah was our waitress, and she was awesome. She was friendly, and attentive, and helped us out with all of our questions, which weren't many. It just took us forever to decide on what to eat. Everything on the menu sounded so good!!
For cocktails, I started with the lightning bug drink. It reminded me of a mojito, but with varying flavors. I love that all the cocktails are made from scratch. Good stuff. My second drink was the flying dog-doggy style pale ale (draught). It had a little bite to it, but it was good too.
We started with the lobster BLT sliders. I can't say we were a big fan of them. It was a cute concept, but just really didn't impress me or my friend. Not that they were horrible by any means. We just weren't feeling them.
Next out was our salads. In hindsight we really could have shared one, because they were some mighty big salads. I ordered the watermelon/arugula/goat cheese/red onion salad, and it was by far my favorite dish. It was so good, and all the flavors worked so well together. Must learn to make this at home! I can't remember the exact salad my friend ordered, but it had big thin slices of cucumber and squash in it. It was delish too!
Last out were our entrees. I ordered the kobe ribeye miso glazed skewers, and they were tasty. Some of the pieces of meat were better tasting/tender than others. Next time I would see if I could order them medium. My friend ordered the lollypop lamb chops, and they were really good.
I wish we would have had room for dessert, but we were too stuffed! Overall, I definitely recommend this place, and I will be back to try other items on the menu fo sho!
I have been to Victor Tango's three times in the last couple of weeks - everyone just keeps wanting to go there. I don't get chicken and waffles - it was good fried chicken, it was an average waffle, there was gravy...I don't really find it a great combination. I would not choose to eat there again - the food is average for a place as trendy as Victor Tango's. Food options that are much better abound.
They have a fantastic drink menu. I am a huge fan of the red pepper cocktail (name slips my mind) - it sounds weird, but it's great. The passionfruit gimlet is delicious as well, if you are a fan of sweeter drinks.
It's a beautiful crowd, and a great atmosphere. A better bet for drinks than dinner.
awesome little place.. i came here friday night with my fiancee and bunch of friends.. i initially called in to make reservations of 6 at 830 PM.. by the time everyone showed up.. it was a party of 12.. VT did an outstanding job of seating all 12 of us by 9 PM..
the food was delicious too.. my fiancee and i ordered the lamb chops, pork belly and a side of mac and cheese.. the table also shared a flatbread.. some brisquet dumplings.. asparagus salad.. and of course chicken and waffles..
overall.. the lamb chops were the best dish.. not bad for 16 bucks..
the prices are also pretty damn good.. for 12 of us.. the bill only came out to about 20 bucks per person.. of course.. that doesn't include alcohol as ordered a bunch of drinks at the bar before.. and was having a happy hour at Park down the street...
I literally just finished eating the chicken and waffles.
This is NOT your average chicken and waffle joint, it's a hip restaurant that happens to serve chicken and waffles.
I wouldn't say the chicken and waffles is worth the 4 stars, it was mediocre.
The atmosphere of this place is really niice though. Very hip, semi upscale yet laid back restaurant with a really big bar. Definitely a place i will frequent in the future
Went again tonight to meet a friend! This time I had a few different drinks... the special Firefly (with the new popular sweet tea ETOH), the Moscow Mule and something special Mr. Ha-cha-cha cooked up for me. Also got a swig of the Passionfruit Gimlet my friend had (tasty but not clear, very fruity).
For snacks, we got the Lobster BLT sliders, the grilled baby artichokes and the tempura green beans. Still not competing with the chicken and waffles... but I would order them all again for sure.
Oh, and since I saw a comment and because someone is so concerned... NO, I didn't see any "popped collars" on this occasion. I was concerned for you and I actually watched for it! Only some very self aware early 20's baby looking dudes who quit popping their collars because some girls on yelp said it was lame. O well. Maybe now the collars are like the jackolope, a rare sight to see. *sigh*

I was waffling between four and five stars for VT's, (pun intended, booyah!), but I think the creativity + deliciousness of so many of their dishes and drinks merits five sexy stars.
After hearing all the buzz about this place, I made it out there the first time a few weeks ago on a Friday evening. I had eaten dinner before that initial trip so all I had was the Passionfruit Gimlet (delish, but with a lotta thyme) and a sip of a friend's Lightning Bug (mmm tealicious). The ladies I was with raved about the Ahi Tuna nachos, chicken and waffles and bacon wrapped shrimp and grits. I got to try a bite of the toffee cake and it was 'aight, but not slap yo' mama good.
I was in it to win it for Round #2 last Friday night. Met up with a few other Yelpers at 8 pm, only to discover that there was an hour and a half wait. No reservations for groups of less than 10...say what? We were determined to get ourselves some Victor Tango's, so we strolled down to the Old Monk to booze it up and wait until our number was up.
**side note**- The Old Monk has a decent beer selection but it totally reeks of vinegar. For real, it's a very powerful odor, and not an entirely pleasant one.
We moseyed back down to VT's 1.5 hours later and were promptly seated at a spacious booth in the corner, where we ordered beverages asap. I stuck with beer that night and ordered a Rogue Dead Guy Ale, which, in addition to sounding totally badass, tastes pretty swell. Also tasted the Love Potion #9 (not on the menu, but strawberry filled love), the Pepper Smash (oddly good), and the Grapefruit Rickey (Aimee Z. is right, it will haunt your dreams in the best way).
Here's a rundown of the plethora of dishes we ordered, at least, the ones I can remember through the haze of the alcohol/food coma they induced:
-mini crispy cheeseburger tacos: it looks like a taco, but tastes like a cheeseburger! tasty, and a bit unsettling, if that makes sense...
-stadium pretzels and beer cheese fondue: I insisted on ordering these, and wasn't disappointed. pretzels were a bit heavy on the salt, but you can brush that mess off easily. beer cheese fondue, need I say more?
-tomato mozzarella salady action: not on the menu, but light, fresh and tasty. I liked it and I'm not really a tomato fan, so that's saying something!
-miso glazed sea bass/kobe beef skewers: awesome. one of my favorite dishes, the beef and fish were cooked perfectly and tasted amazing.
-tempura calamari: pretty good, I always forget how rubbery calamari can be, but they did an a-ok job with it. tempura pepperocinis and lemon slices made the dish all the more interesting
-hanger steak with argula salad: again, VT's does meat right. makes my little omnivore heart happy.
-mac & jack: sounds like a failed sitcom or a reference to something dirty, but is totally effing tasty. I could go for a bit more crab in the dish, but still, it rocked.
Sadly, I had to drive both nights or I would've indulged in more of the adult beverages they have to offer. I think I tried a sip of the Gold Rush and it almost put me over the edge, so beware, that is a strong drink. The servers I had on both nights were rockin', super attentive and prompt even though everyone and their mom was milling about, taking the noise level and crowded factor up to eleven. Apparently Mondays are less crowded and they offer up a solid happy hour, so it's supposed to be a better time to go.
Parking is a huge pain in this whole area, but the valet for VT's/Hibiscus is free. I believe that the slight damage to my front bumper occurred after my first visit when I used the valet, but it was super dark and raining when I left and I didn't notice it until the next morning, so I couldn't say definitively. Parking=hell. Otherwise, get down to Victor Tango's and prepare to be overwhelmed with culinary and alcoholic delights :D
It was after all the dessert lover's birthday, so after the requisite amount of Yelpy research she deemed Victor Tango's our dinnertime destination, reason not the least of which were the chicken and waffles laying in wait. But were one to dismiss this place as your southern fried Shangri-La, you'd kind of be missing the point. If you're in the frame of mind to sample a luxurious cocktail, share some crafted entrees paired with a small-batch brew, or jsut belly up to the bar for some comfortable refinement, well then you're onto something.
Let's talk cocktails for a moment: the birthday girl tried on the passionfruit gimlet, which she summarily pronounced a hit ("fruity" appropriately enough), and for my part, I actually didn't miss out on something interesting though I ordered hops. Apparently the New Belgium Brewery's Lips of Faith is a casket aged seasonal brew that's only being served in thirteen places nationwide. One of which is here: a pale ale with notes of apple and apricot, it was a tasty compliment to the plates to come. Worth noting that our server was bonafide terrific: personal, attentive, never hovering but seldom too far to pop over.
Between the four of us, we had our way with the following for dinner: Ahi Tuna Nachos, Crock of Warm Goat Cheese Dip with Tapenade & Lavosh, Chicken & Waffles, Bacon Wrapped Shrimp with White Cheddar Grits and the Hamachi Sashimi with Daikon Slaw. We found each plate to be it's own little epicurian adventure, and there was a little noticing oohing and aahing over the chicken & waffles. Of course by that time we were each fairly thoroughly fat and happy, rosy cheeked and ready to head on down the road for the next time. But next time? Oh, there will be a next time. And whatever we end up with no doubt will fuel just desserts.
Yum yum yum!
I had been dying to come here! First, my mom and I had dinner at a table, but upon seeing the prices, we settled to get a couple of appetizers ( I was paying, so no entrees! Sorry, Mom) The artichoke au gratin- not good. There was no gratin. Just grilled artichokes. False advertising! The french fries were delicious because of the sauce they came with! Spicy mayo. Amazing! A lot of the dishes sounded great- but 90% of the dishes include meat. Next time, I might ask them to custom-make a dish for me, since I'm a vegetarian and a lot of the ingredients were delicious.
I was ready to go to a sports bar to watch the Bulls/Celtics game, but we decided to sit at the bar and get some cocktails and watch the game there.
BAR=WHERE THE MAGIC HAPPENS
I loved watching the bartenders make the drinks with fresh, delicious ingredients! It was a beautiful process and the bartenders were really knowledgeable, charming, skilled, and funny. Go Scott and Abraham! BFFs for life!
They even made up cocktails. I said- I kind of liked this one- will you make one up that's kind of similar? It was awesome! Scott came up with one that we called "Mysterious Liason." It was incredible!
I had 4 drinks, loved them all, and told my mom the intimate details of my personal life. Yay Victor Tangos! Everybody wins!
