Halloween at a church?! COOL!!
We arrived at the Vibiana at 10:15PM and the event started at 10:00PM. The line was clear outside of the parking lot and around the corner. Luckily, I knew someone who helped get us through the line without a hassle or having to wait.
There were a couple of cute courtyards with bars surrounding the entrance to the Vibiana. Inside, the walls were washed with purple lights. Tables were fit into every little crevasse possible in the church for bottle service. At the far back end of the church were three additional bars.
Lining the sides of the church were confessionals which your's truly posed in with my girls. At the front was a stage that Asher Roth performed on. I don't really know many of his songs except that "College" one, but he rapped over a bunch of very recognizable songs and beats.
The night ended pretty amazingly when one of my friends got a drink dumped on her by some drunk chick. My friend's immediate reaction was to clock the girl in her face. At which point a fight ensued and they had to be pulled apart by some security guards. Surprisingly, we weren't even kicked out!
It almost felt kinda wrong to be at this Halloween party in a church dressed a TAD bit skanky next to other scantily dressed girls. At the same time, it was exciting to be a little bit "naughty". All in all, great night at the Vibiana!
Don't listen to the scare-dy cats who complain about how "sketch" this neighborhood is. You are not going to get "shanked" while walking to back to your lighted parking area that is right across the street from one of the most bourgeois bars in town. It's called living in a city. Sometimes, you will be within a square mile radius of minorities or homeless people. It's okay. Breathe. Say hello. They're people, too.
Anyway, I thought Vibiana was a new hip bar in Los Angeles hosting the Macallan tasting event. Instead, I was greeted with a church that was simply hosting events, with a great courtyard and vaulted ceilings that would make Jesus proud. The Macallan tasting was free, except for a $5 donation that made this event one of the top cheap rate date places of the year. When you enter the building, you're greeted with models, a glass of Macallan 10 and a surprisingly hip barrage of music (I think they're trying to target a younger demographic).
Walk past the column of confessionals and you'll find about 100 tables covered in black cloth. The food is delivered from the right door, so sit closer to the RIGHT side if you want first dibs at the food.
Macallan gave generous tastings of the Macallan 10, 12, 15, 17 and 18. Sure, you had to sit through the marketing shpeel, but the guy was good looking and funny and there's a lot of Macallan so that makes the presentation that much easier to digest.
AJK Tip of the Night: Drink only half of your tasting. By the end of the night, you can smell and notice all the differences and be able to choose what you like the most.
Just witnessed thee wedding of a lifetime!!! What a beautiful venue to have a wedding reception! As I walked through the red carpet I was welcomed with a glass of champagne and led towards a beautiful open area filled with greenery as I mingled with guests! The main reception/dining area inside is so impressive with its' high celings and old style windows and beautiful arches that it made the night extra magical. It is truly a beautiful place to hold a special night!
Congratulations Nancy & Henry!!!
Beautiful place for any event- but lock your car. I went here for the first time last week for the Macallan event and it was very nice, with a lovely garden and courtyard, and inside a freshly restored church with high vaulted ceilings and even little confessionals still to the sides. I would want my wedding reception here if A) I was getting married first of all, and B) the neighborhood wasn't so sketchy. We were sure we would get shanked walking the block and a half from here back to the car.
Was here for a Wedding.
This used to be a church built over 100 years ago and restored recently. The facility was AMAZING, great natural lighting, large indoor capacity with an outdoor cocktail area, big green trees. Small Stage Most elegant wedding I could have been too. All the guests were very impressed.
They had security because this place is in LA, you know. Large parking lot across the street for the visitors.
dopeness.
Was just here last night for the Warner Music Grammy Party. I'm not sure whether I'm reviewing the venue or the event producer who put on a stunning party, but anytime you get to experience a party in a former church there is bound to be fun!
The cathedral itself is massive and when it is lit for partay-ing, the place is absolutely stunning.
I was amazed at how great the sound was inside and impressed that the crowd noise did not overtake conversations -- where does an echo go?
If/when you have the opportunity to get downtown for an event at Vibiana, jump at the chance. It is assured to be memorable.
This venue is a gem in the heart of skid row, downtown LA. A refurbished former cathedral, this place offers an amazing backdrop for parties, weddings, and fashion shows. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be well known.
Recently attended some fashion shows here to kick off LA Fashion Week (Louis Verdad, Jeffrey Sebelia of Project Runway). A vaulted ceiling is supported by grand columns on each side. The architecture lent itself to create an atmosphere much more glamorous than sitting in an impromptu tent, as where most fashion week shows are held.
There's a little garden for reception and hob nobbing on the side. I'd love to throw a private party here one day for me and my 1000 most closest friends (that's the capacity). check out the picks, stunning.
I came here for Air Party/944's Halloween bash, and its amazing. Im quite sure it is illegal somewhere to drink(not wine, full martinis) and smoke hoohak, stoges, and weed all at once in a former church. This place is absolutely gorgeous! The lighting, the high arches and moldings, the lights reflect at night and hit her in just the right layout of pinks, and other colors. Good sound system(yes even for a church) I will definitely be back here again!
An absolutely gorgeous venue. THE prettiest spot I've ever been to for an event, by far.
The bf and his company were promoting here for New Year's Eve, and there's no way any other party was at a better-lookin' place that night. A former cathedral, the Vibiana is like a huge hall inside, with arches and high vaulted ceilings. The walls are completely white, so the soft blue lights reflected beautifully that night. The music also bounced off the walls here and echoed all over the place... excellent for my shakin' booty!! I know this place was featured on a recent episode of The Hills (the one where they had the teen vogue fashion show). The outside area is really pretty too, though I was only out there to go to the uncrowded bar area, catch some air, or stand in a ridiculously long line to relieve my bladder.
Thanks, Vibiana, for making my first New Year's party memorable :)
it's a beautiful space and is perfect for events. there's also a nice outdoor patio space with grass and stuff. i went for savor the season and maybe the a/c was broken that day or something cuz it was freakin hot in there! also, the line for valet parking was super long so i parked on the nearby streets where it's mostly homeless guys and stuff..
