Discovering my new 'hood so thought I'd try out the local diner, that is Viand. Had breakfast, nothing special, but solid eggs, tasty little sausage suckers and a pretty decent cup of coffee for this kind of joint.
For a cheap, no frills breakfast, don't think you'll miss w/ Viand.
my favorite New York City dinner (I'm from Jersey so the standards out there are different). this place is always a safe bet and the staff is very nice. I think they may get a 3 more for sentimental reasons but I always thought the food was not bad at all.
Terrible, this is a terrible neighborhood cafe. I always see people in the restaurant so I thought i would give it a try. Prices I thought were on the high side for sub-par food. And the make your own omlet was apparently $7.5 with 1 topping. We ordered 3, cause there were 3 columns, and we thought we got to choose an ingredient from each column. So a boring cheese sausage and spinach omlet turned out to be $10.5! The waffles were no frills, she forgot to bring me any syrup, and I had to ask twice.
Getting any kind of service, whether it was utensils, syrup, or napkins was like pulling teeth. You would have though that they were paying us to eat there!
I have ordered several things from their menu on http://delivery.com and have to say, am always pleased. As diners go it has meets my expectations. I have had burgers, omelettes, eggs, salads and wraps. All for under $20 dollars and all delivered usually in 20 minutes. A good solid dining choice when you need one.
My name is Scott and I'm addicted to Viand's Yogurt Parfait w/ Fresh Fruit and Granola. I just went through my SeamlessWeb order history and I've ordered it (along w/ an English muffin) 10 times in the past 2 months. And I haven't ordered any other thing off the menu.
It's pretty nuts, I know. But after 5 weekdays of putting taste over health (and some alcohol along the way), my body craves a little detox on Saturday and this dish does the trick.
The yogurt is just right - thick but not sour. The granola is tasty. The fruit, well, is okay. You have to explicitly ask for berries if you want any hope of seeing them - otherwise you're getting just apple and melon. Doesn't totally ruin the dish but strawberries are best.
I finally got around to sampling something else on their menu - their french toast. Very good. They used a country-style white bread that provided the thickness you usually get with Challah French Toast. Good amount of strawberries for the topping. Scrambled eggs are okay.
I've considered trying other breakfast/lunch/dinner items but they are outvalued by Big Nick's in almost every case - example: before noon, you can get pancakes w/ fruit at viand cafe or pancakes w/ fruit, small juice, coffee/tea, and a breakfast meat for about the same $9....
Ate lunch at Viands today - we were looking for a quick lunch on our way to do some shopping... we stopped and looked at the menu at Josie's but come on..... $16 for a hamburger?? Not today.
So we decided on Viands randomly - just walked by - The service was so-so, I had the Turkey burger on whole grain bread (it was huge) and quite good - I was pleasantly surprised. I had a side of fresh veggies that weren't quite cooked and made my jaw hurt to try to eat them!
My husband had the gyro plate, it wasn't the traditional shaved meat from a roll, more of a sausage patty - but spot on for flavor and the tzatzike was thick and perfect. Good fries with a small Greek salad - made for a good value at$10.95
The Viand is a pretty nice diner a few blocks away from where I work. It's also my homegirl Layne and my "spot," where we meet for brunch or drunken food!
Everything I've had at Viand has been decent, above-average, diner food. Omelets are great, the french toast is cut extremely thick and it's rich and delicious, they know how to make bacon nice and crispy... but by far the BEST thing I've ever eaten at Viand was a grilled cheese sandwich with fries. Dear Lord, it was so good.
Anyway - putting aside my emotional attachment to the place, it's really just a diner. But it's a good diner! The only negative thing I have to say about Viand is the prices are a little steep for "diner food."
Bonus: If by some off chance you are a dance student at Steps on Broadway, you can present your "Steps Card" and I think they're supposed to give you 10% off your bill.
Had delivery from this place. Tuna melt was great. I loved the garlic sauce dressing for the salad. The shiitake beef burger was alright, nothing amazing. Tasted sooo good with the garlic dressing though!
Overall a very decent meal.
Totally decent delivery burger and fries. Want a diner? That's what you're getting.
It's ok. Not great, but when you're hungry it does the trick. The service is fast, the food kind of cheap.
It does get overrun with the hotel gets at the Beacon so look in the windows before you enter!!
a joint
burger is not bad
cooked to right temperature
solid standard burger
overall ranking: B
Great place for diner food - you can never go wrong with the grilled cheese sandwich here!
Cozy, friendly Greek-owned diner. Decent matzo ball soup. Scrumptious almond bran muffin. They toast it up and spread butter on it. Yummy...Coffee was excellent too.
I moved into the neighborhood only a few weeks ago and since it's so cold outside and I boycott temperatures below 60 degrees, I've already ordered from Viand Cafe 10+ times. Their delivery is so fast my stomach never growls in anticipation for the food to arrive. The food isn't amazing, but definitely hits the spot. A big plus being that I've ordered from them so much is I've yet to have one screwed up. I'm a fan of the omelets, grilled cheese and burgers.
I find this place kinda pricey for what it serves - a turkey wrap is over $11 when the same thing is $7.50 a few blocks away. However, the food is consistently good, as is the service. They are constantly circling the restaurant refilling coffee without having to flag someone down. They're also cool about substituting sides (a decent size salad instead of fries, etc) I've had the gyro plate which was really good (and kinda addicting) and any of the wraps I've tried have been tasty. Good place to go when you don't know where else to go.
I can't believe no one else has commented on the turkey. It's all about the turkey here -- fresh off the bone with stuffing and cranberry sauce. White or dark meat -- moist and delicious. Comfort food heaven. Mmmmmm.
