#19 - fresh strips of beef, rice noodle,  lettuce  and sprouts for less then $7. SImple and clean. The other dishes come with fish balls, tripe, kidneys  and all the other organ stuff that I dont eat. ( yuck)  so I just keep it simple   with #19. When I come here, its packed  with all Asians  and the service is really quick, i can be in and out  in less then 20 minutes.

THe only bad thing about this place,is that its cash only.

I religously come back here when I have the itch for a hot bowl of noodle  soup !

Totally understandable why people that are already fans of VH would eat here if they're from this area, but being from Oakland, this VH was just not quite the same.

If Oakland-VH had a face lift, this is what it'll look like.

First thing I noticed, was that the chopsticks were plastic. Noob mistake, how is it possible to eat slippery, greasy noodles with PLASTIC CHOPSTICKS? (That's beside the point)

Noodles themselves can pass for the original and can satisfy if you're feining, but it lacks nitty gritty grease taste in their soup. Their fried ginger weren't flakes, it was more like little pebbles. Lastly, their fishcakes were no where near the same.

As an independent restaurant not seen in the shadow of the original VH, it's a passable noodle place. Does it have the same appeal as the original? No. But if ever I crave Chiu Jew Noodles, it's worth a trip there (if I was from that area.)

Since this was the only restaurant to be open in the Pacific East plaza at 10, we had no choice.  I really wanted to go to Saigon, but they have been closed since Monday for Chinese New Year.  I was craving me some egg noodle soup.

The Thai ice tea was mostly ice.  That's my biggest pet peeve.  Would you like some tea with that ice?

Dad's noodle soup had huge droplets of oil on the surface of the liquid.  Eww...don't drink it!  I had the seafood chow fun.  Although the dish was heavy-doused with gravy, it did not taste salty at all.  This seems to be my go-to choice.  The price may initially seem expensive compared to other places, but when your order arrives you will see it's 2-3 servings for that amount.

The rain was clearing up, but it was still a perfect night for my pho fix from Pho Saigon Restaurant II. I get there and the lights were off and a big red sign saying they were closed for four days for the Chinese New Year. What!? I contemplated going and getting some El Pollo Loco, but then I saw VH Noodle House, which I've always wanted to try but Saigon always tends to get me.

I took the chance and went it after taking a quick look at the menu. Now I know you're supposed to order the number 21, but I've read a few reviews of it being a little greasy and the organs in broth doesn't sound too appetizing.  I went with number 37, which is Shrimp Chow Fun w/ mixed vegetables.  The plate is stir-fried ho fun noodles, with marinated prawns and mixed vegetables in their house sauce.

The food came out within ten minutes and looked great, with plenty of veggies, shrimp, and noodles.  I took a few bites and was disappointed.  The taste was bland, the plate was smothered in their house sauce, which had no flavor.  The noodles weren't especially tasty and tasted like nothing.  I basically had a pool of their house sauce and soggy veggies.  I ate the shrimp and began playing with my food like a toddler. I was really disappointed, especially with all the great reviews and steady clientele. I know it could be very possible that I didn't order the right thing, but then again, a business can't succeed from just one item off the menu. I paid my $12 bill and went home and ate left over Round Table.

My ex boyfriend and I tried this place out of curiosity since we usually get our Vietnamese fixes at Pho Saigon II, which is located next door.
I ordered the mi bo kho and it was yummy, but a bit too sweet. I like how it was spicy too. My ex boyfriend ordered the seafood chow fan and he loved it!
Overall it was a good experience. We like Pho Saigon II nextdoor much better, though.

It's crazy how I just recently re-discovered this little gem of a restaurant nestled in the back corner of Pac East Mall. I've been going to this mall for years now, but I've only been here once before, and it was 5 years ago. I just remember it being far from memorable, but it might have been because I just didn't order the right thing last time. This time, I brought along an experienced friend that was able to give me suggestions on what to order.

He basically narrowed it down to numbers 10-14. I ended up getting the beef stew with the thick egg noodles. It was absolutely delicious. There was plenty of beef and cabbage in the perfect amount. I didn't have to stuff myself and I walked away feeling full so it didn't feel like a waste of food. The thick egg noodles were really good also. It's a lot different from the typical pho vermicelli, in that it adds taste rather than just being plain and boring. The beef pretty much melted at just the touch of my chop stick. So tender and juicy. The broth was the best part though. They put random pieces of fat in the broth which you'd think would just make the dish really greasy and ugly, but it added such a nice flavor to the broth that I didn't have to add anything to it.

I think last time I was here, I ordered one of their stir-fry dishes, and it just felt really boring to me. That's probably why I never remembered much about eating here last time. So I guess I'd just stray away from the stir-fry? Another negative is that it's cash only, which kind of sucks for people that barely carry cash around, like me. Otherwise, it's a real good and solid meal. Probably the best restaurant in Pac East.

Alright, I am finally got down to writing about VN Noodle House. My family always makes a pit stop here before heading off to do some grocery shopping at the Ranch 99. Since as you all know there is no "Asian Ranch, Lions, etc.. " in Marin.

I would normally order no. 11 with the fat egg noodles. Soo good! Most of the stuff on the menu is very good for a decent price. The atmosphere reminds me of any Asian noodle house, it could in fact be in HK if it was a little smaller. Weekends the line is outside with all the shoppers. Which is a good sign.

Located in the back corner of an Asian strip mall, this unassuming little restaurant was filled with awesome 49ers fans. GO NINERS! But the food was just good, but not mind blowing. Seemed like a Chinese-ation of Viet foods, with a general Asian twist. Not authentically Viet, but drawing from it for sure. The beef stew/bo kho was not hearty and chunky, but more watered down and soupy.

My favorites were definitely the pork belly (nice and fatty), and the broth on the famous BBQ noodles. Other than that, it was a decent meal, but not cheap or good enough to get me to come back over and over.

This is def a place to come to for some semi/cheap non-high-quality Chinese food.  As a former cal undergrad, my asian friends would always come here to get noodle soups.  BOMB!!!   Last time I was there I had the stir fried kidney...surprisingly good! and chewy...interesting texture.

Today came here with my dad and we ordered the fried tofu appetizer (tasteless...but it was really good with the spicy sauce + their sourish watery dip they give you) .... the ox tail vegetable chow fun (3/5 ... ehh) and the sparerib over rice (4/5).  My dad vowed not to come back again after our dinner haha but... I guess this place is good for college students with low standards.  (http://www.yelp.com/bi...)

Great noodle shop. I was here years ago before the advent of Yelp. I would give them one more star if they had a shop in my neighborhood - VH Noodle, please open up in the South Bay! If I could move just to be next door, I would, seriously!

I had the flat noodle (think Fettuccine) with soup on the side. This is "teochew" (google it) style noodles with slices of pork, minced pork, fish balls and kidney. Apparently, most of the ingredients they use in their noodles are made in-house so you can buy them.

Service is surprisingly good for an Asian joint and prices are within reason. I probably wouldn't be here again for a while but if I am, I'll be sure to stop by. Only other downer about this place is parking can be a nightmare if you're here on a weekend.

After shopping at Ranch 99 (or is it 99 Ranch?), there's nothing quite like settling down to a hearty bowl of beef stew from VH. Prices are pretty standard for a noodle place, but the service, decor and the beef stew make this place shine...which is good considering they're literally right next to Pho Saigon II...and I mean seriously right next to each other.

VH always seems to be packed when I pass by and for good reason (mine is the beef stew). I'd rate this place a 4.5, but rounded down because of how small it is. The seating is somewhat cramped and I had to wait a few times, but it's definitely worth it if you have a few minutes to spare.

    I LOVE THIS PLACE.

    [Location]
    Awesome.

    [Price]
    Cheap.

    [Food]
    Yummy.  Cheap.  Good portion.

I love how you can switch between noodle soup and dry-style.  You can also switch between the different types of noddles.  It can make such a variation on the flavors and I was never disappointed with it.  You can do this at other places too but I haven't been to a place that does it better than VH.

My boyfriend once got the fried seafood noodles and lol, the noodles were fried into a nest.  That was a bit too much because we had expected something.. less.  That dish was difficult to eat and a little too oily.

    [Service]
    Really nice people.

Dislike the cash-only, but because the price is on the lower-end, I usually have enough cash for it.

Anytime I have to drive past Richmond/El Cerrito to visit my folks in the north bay, I try to squeeze in some time to get my fix of the special #21 - chow jew ho fun.

I actually prefer their Oakland location better so I only come to this one out of convenience. They use thicker slices of brisket in the soup here which I don't really care for and there's seems to be a strange Chinese herbal/medicinal after taste to it too. The noodle doesn't seem as fresh either. They also use disposable chopsticks here instead of the wooden reusable ones with chew marks, lol.  The fried fish cake and pickled cabbage is the perfect pairing with #21.

FYI - be prepared to get a zit on your chin.

So, everyone RAVES about the #21, so I ordered what they suggested. #21 with soup on the side. OMG I WISH I NEVER CAME HERE. It was the first and LAST time I'm trying this place. #21 is a dish that is made up of chow fun noodles and etc... It was extremely oily. The taste was so bland so I tried to spice it up with their condiments. It didn't help that their condiments were also disgusting. I am disgusted. Maybe I should try other dishes before I post this rant but I'm definitely not considering giving this place another shot. Don't come here...

This tends to be me and my family's go-to place whenever we're traveling through the bay. It's sort of small and cramped inside the restaurant but they work fast so people are usually in and out in no time.

They have a variety of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes that range from the average pho to chow mein/fun to rice plates. They even have things like roasted duck and a few "house specialties". My favorite is definitely their little fish cakes that come with a spicy sweet and sour dipping sauce and pickled vegetables and I totally recommend it to anyone that likes fish cake.

The service isn't bad but it's not the best either. And the portions you get for the price that you paid are totally worth it.

Like everyone else said, the #21 ($6.65) is a pretty solid choice.

The first time I came here, I thought the soup noodles were too greasy and unflavorful. However, I came here tonight with friends and Carol N. told me to add the hoisin sauce and the red hot sauce to the noodles. It took the dish to a whole new level. Loved it! Beware though, the soup has a lot of MSG in it - I was really thirsty afterwards.

Service wasn't great, but it's a pretty cheap and tasty meal.

Their #21 is alright . The sautéed kidneys with green onion was alright but not that great . The kidney would've tasted better if it was sautéed longer . Their satay sauce is alright but didn't really impress me . I really liked their hot sauce which was kind of sweet and sour ... it tasted pretty good .

I gave this restaurant three chances and I've been disappointed each time. The first time I had it, I didn't enjoy any of the dishes we ordered. Second time, I had the chicken noodle soup, and after a couple bite, I couldn't finish it because the broth was disgusting. It tasted like the broth was brewed for hours in pig's innards. Most recently, my friends chose this restaurant and I went along with it. I ordered noodles with seafood topped with gravy. They gave me two tiny shrimps and the rest of the plate was filled with vegetables and starchy noodles. The noodles didn't have a golden brown sauteed texture. It was just a white gooey mass. For the rest of the day after that meal, all of us felt like crap. We had symptoms of over-ingestion of MSG.

Went here this past weekend and while I've gone here previously before and it has been okay, this trip it just was not that great. We ordered the number 12 and 21 and the food got here rather quickly. While the portions were large, the egg noodles for 12 were really underdone and it didn't help that the soup was really lukewarm. Everything but the kidneys were sort of chewy and it was just not that good. Probably won't be back unless I'm really craving this type of food. .

Great selection of noodle choices. I love how you can choose what type of noodles you want in your dish. I was craving for some good ole noodle soup and this place looked better then Pho Saigon. Checked it out and it was good! I ordered the seafood noodle soup with the chow fun noodles. It was a bit greasy and its definitely not the healthiest dish but it was comfort food for me. My BF didn't care to much for it and he thought the food was too bland. I'll try it again on another day when I'm in the mood for noodle soup.

So this place was recommended by my boyfriend's parents and they usually go here whenever they want some sort of noodle soup. Since my bf's parents are indo-chinese, I was unsure of their taste and if there's was similar to mine.  After carefully yelping the reviews, reviewers unanimously decided that the #21 was the way to go.

This place is hidden in a long tunnel of super asian stores that resemble grand century in San Jose. That being said, I am a vietnamese girl from San Jose. So I have eaten so many noodle/broths/pho places in my life that not many places can amaze me. So after looking at the menu, nothing seemed to pop out at me so I decided to order the #21. #21 is simply hu tieu trieu chau, which is a chow fun noodle in a seafood clear broth that had chicken, kidney, shrimp, pork with bean sprouts. I had to add A LOT of hoisin and siracha sauce to give the broth ANY flavor. I do have to give props to the place for giving a LARGE portion for its price. the regular size #21 only costs $6.75 and I didn't even finish it all. The boyfriend also ordered their famous fish cakes which honestly, just tasted like vietnamese spam that we put in our viet sandwiches. Definitely not worth the price of 7 something.

Overall, I ate way too much just because I usually finish a regular size order of any type of noodle soup. At the end, I was full but also pretty drowsy from an msg overdose. I don't think I'll come back here again and show my bf a decent place in San Jose next time.

After ordering their Chiu Chow orange skin duck leg noodle the past few times I came (which hadn't been that often because I tend to be here on weekend afternoons when usually there's a long wait), one weekday afternoon I visited here with the intent of ordering their beef tripe noodles. It's the item I ordered during my earlier visits here before discovering the duck leg noodle. As a result I rediscovered what I liked about it: the "plainness" of the soup but in a tasty way. They add beef balls, the type which I'm not a fan of but can deal with it.

In summary, "plain" soup that's good and, to be in agreement with review by Melinda Y., what Asian doesn't like a good bowl of noodles.  :)

Every time my family and I visit Pacific East Mall, we run straight to VH. The place is ALWAYS crowded, so I have to rush over to sign my name on the waiting list they have by the entrance. The waiters always get the orders wrong and it takes FOR-EV-ER to be seated. That's the worst part about it. But the noodles are still just as tasty as the VH in Oakland. I always get the # twenty-uno and drench it in the hot sauce. I'm giving it 4 stars because I love the food, but the waiters are kind of rude.

The lunch hour rush is always super busy, but it literally takes minutes to get your food to you so that is a plus.

Fish cake: comes with a side of pickled cabbage sweet tangy taste to it; Get it!

Assorted Chow Fun: Noodles are just right, chicken, celery, fish cake, carrots, broccoli, if you plan on taking home I highly suggest you ask for light sauce other wise it might not hold out.

Avocado Shake: Is hands down one of the best avocado shakes I have had.

    Love love love this place.

Sure it's next to a smelly bathroom. But look past that, and you'll find a diamond in the rough. I always order the wonton/dumpling noodle soup with thin egg noodles, no kidneys. The food always comes out fast, and then I proceed to bombard the soup with hot sauce and pickled peppers... much to the dismay of onlookers. Try it out sometimes.

Maybe it's because I've grown up eating at the Oakland location, but I just feel like the one in Oakland gives you more, and tastes better.

I always get #21 with no kidney. Love the spicy sauce they have in the squeeze tube! It is a must try.. It is not sriracha, but it may contain sriracha.. heh. I feel like this location is more upscale (better lighting, better customer service, more updated with TV screens..), but I will always feel more at home at the other one. To be honest, I've never actually really ordered anything other than #21, but if it's your first time here, YOU NEED TO ORDER THIS!!

Don't be like previous me and order pan fried noodles... Order the soup noodles. They are better.

I came half-buzzed here with some friends after BTC, so this is a great drunk people food, yaddamean? With my head held as high as possibly could I slumped into my seat and let my friend (Carol N.) order for me. #21 is what she ordered.

Not drunk enough to fall in love with it, but drunk enough to try to pay for my entire table's meal. Lesson learned: Bring cash. They don't take card.

We came in on a Wed around 2:45 pm. This place is always a little busy but not really sure why. The food is ok. Inside it feels pretty stuffy. Not enough air flow. They need to open the window or something. There are about 17 tables crunched up together. I think this is one of the smallest restaurants here at this shopping mall.

We ordered the Gravy Egg Style Chow Ho Fun with Shrimp (Hu Tieu Xao Bo Opla) for $10. I thought it was a bit salty. We also ordered the House Omelet Rice (Com Omelet) for $10. It had a plain egg omelet on top & in-between was Chinese sausage & ground pork & fried rice on the bottom. It was good but I'm easy I like omelets.

Not a place I would go to often. They take CASH ONLY. Prices are a little high & food quality is so-so...

So good. On a family venture out to Norcal, we made a beeline for Asian food (something my dad will only eat no matter where we are, assuming it's available), and we ran into VH Noodle House.

Expansive menu with all types of Chinese-style noodles to suit your fancy--thin, thick, rice, egg, vermicelli, soup, soup-less--and everything in between. I got the rice noodle cut into short pieces with shrimp, chicken, pork, and pork kidney (#25 on the menu). I LOVE PORK KIDNEY. That taste is just so...distinct...and so yummy. Everything in my order brought me back to my childhood, when my mom used to make steaming bowls of teo-chow style noodles in broth with all types of meat and of course, the kidney. Threw some chili sauce and a couple of spicy peppers in there, and I was as happy as a clam (while sweating). My sister and I were so happy.

Good service, quick, and clean. CASH ONLY. It's awakened a craving in me for teo-chow style noodles. My people may be rice farmers, but they sure know how to serve up a crazy serving of noodles.

The bf said that this was "the" hangout spot for all his high school friends. Everyone liked this place better than the traditional pho place. So we came here and I was expecting something good. Meh, I was not impressed. My noodles tasted bland and too soggy. I don't recommend coming here. Just go get pho.

On tap: Teo Cheow ho fun & mixed flat noodle soup, hold the bean sprouts please.
    -pickled cabbage

    The Review:
I still remember the first time I went to a Vien Huong restaurant for the first time.  It was out in Oakland's Chinatown, right next to Legendary Palace.  Their noodle soup was to die for!  Anyways, the teo cheow noodle soup there has been the gold standard for that style of soup.  TK noodle has nothing on it.

Anyways, the VH noodle here in Richmond is pretty damned good.  It's basically the same as the Vien Huong down in Oak, but different owners, same spicy hot sauce thankfully =).  Great noodle soup here though, I have to say the third best I've ever had of this style noodle soup.  Unfortunately, it loses out for one thing only: it's missing the crunchy garlic and fried bacon topping!!!  Cmon guys, even TK noodle tops their soup with it =).  Minor gripe to an otherwise excellent soup.

My bro and sis-in-law got some pickled cabbage with their order.  One half decent sized plate of that came around, apparently it's $5.  Wtf? $5 for some cabbage in sugar vinegar? oh well, another minor gripe.

4 stars for good food, albeit missing one crucial item, and for questionably priced cabbage.
