If you are looking for a sketchy spot in Miami...this is as good as it gets!Whether you want to have cheap drinks with friends or you want to take a date where no one will see you, please look no further.

Satisfaction Guaranteed.

It's inside the Floridian.--the pale yellow tall building on your left as you come in from 395 to Alton. You can't miss it-- it's right on the water channel of the bay.

Well, you can only access the VFW from a side door next to the lobby. The door is locked. There is a camera and they have to let you in. Apparently, my friends and I managed to meet whatever code was required for entrance. After a couple of times, you're just considered a regular.

The drinks are beyond super cheap, there's a pool table and juke box. There aren't many people there...so just befriend the bartendar and the random veterans. They are a riot and I'm sure they'll share stories with you. I've spent hours there with friends who used to live in the building and I also proudly visited the VFW after they moved. No matter who's behind the bar--they are always glad you came.

Oh yeah, and don't forget to buy your commemorative VFW trucker's hat conveniently sold behind the bar. I still have mine.

This is a hidden spot and a total 180 from the stereotypical SoBe scene. You thought the drinks were cheap at Zeke's oh boy you haven't been to this place. You drive up to a condo, park in a private little lot, find a non descript door go up a few stairs, ring a doorbell, get buzzed in, take an elevator one floor up, and when the doors open c'est magic and voila you are at the VFW.

There is a pool table, a jukebox, darts, a few televisions, and dirt cheap drinks. Smoky and empty when I was there this place is perfect for anyone that just wants to have a no frills, just the basics, night out.

I love that this place exists on South Beach.

No jacket required here.  Leave the gemstone tops and matching bedazzled trucker hat at home before setting foot in this salty joint or they'll be liable to let a wandering bug or two to fall into your pint glass.

Personally, I think this place is a gem.  Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, right?  But I love that it's tucked away in an unsuspecting S. Beach condo, and I love that the regulars aren't trying to impress anyone.  It's just their quiet little place to drink and shoot the breeze.  You can count the number of unpretentious dives in S. Beach on my left hand.

Having, said that(or written rather); that's all the more reason to appreciate the VFW.

What can I say? This place grew on me and I've come to find out Phyllis is tame compared to "the bitch." At first I was afraid, I was down right petrified to call her "the bitch," but when she refused to give me her real name I was forced to call her by the alternative (at the end of the night I finally coaxed "Debbie" out of her). As my friend so appropriately put it, Debbie is simply higher on the food chain than the rest of us. She tells you what to do and you do it willingly because you don't really have a choice. If Debbie told me to stay, I'd stay. If she told me to leave, I wouldn't ask questions and I'd just leave. It's as simple as that.

This is one of the most interesting places you will ever go for a drink.  It is located in one of the large condo buildings along West Avenue and they have their own parking lot although it is usually crowded and you have to park on the street.  It has a beautiful view of Biscayne Bay, the cheapest drinks anywhere and free pool.  As far as I know you do not need to be a member to get in and it is all locals as they are the only people who know about it.
