What can I say other than "wow!"??  Vesecky has spectacular breads, kolacky, coffee cakes, pastries, cakes and the cookies are spectacular.  Supposedly they have hot dogs wrapped in dough that are stupdendous, but I've never been early enough to try them, because they're always sold out.  Try the round cinnamon bread loaf (get it sliced) - great.  I agree that if you're not a regular it can be a bit daunting figuring out what you want, especially if the line is nearly out the door.  But the staff is very patient and willing to help and answer any questions, so no worries!  Once you've gone a few times, you'll know exactly what you want before you walk in the door and take a number.  Though every once in a while they'll surprise you with something new.  It really hurts to buy white bread at a grocery store when you can get a great loaf from Vesecky that it 1,000 times better and costs the same or less (I think a 1 pound loaf is $1.50 - a bargain!).  Thank goodness I live far enough away, otherwise I'd visit Vesecky at least once per week and would be fatter than I already am.

Although wholly unfriendly, this aging bohemian bakery still kicks out superb baked goods in plain white boxes tied with twine, just like I imagine they did forty years ago.  If you ask for a dozen assorted pastries, you get all the good stuff.  With congeniality, it would get five stars.
