Civic Center (North-South, Northeast-South, East-West, Proctor Creek)
I decided to get out during the "be-drunk" hour on Wednesday night. Verve seemed like a good choice; I'd heard many good things about this place. It was....okay. I was surprised by the frisk at the door (didn't think it was that kind of joint). Urban chic design, Crouching Tiger playing on the TVs, scantily clad women doing the drunk chair dance, and plenty of men on the prowl while nursing a mixed drink with melted ice. It was....okay.

Ok so I've been to Verve, and was never really a fan then, and then I made a second trip this past weekend and unfortunately my feelings still haven't changed.
Verve is like that "kid" at school that just tried way too hard to be cool, but just didn't quite have all the "cool points" to do so. I mean it's just too small of a venue even though it's spread out over 3 floors + roof, each of these areas get overly packed and crowded so quick that it doesn't matter how much space it's spread out over it's still just too darn small to be "clubby".
The crowd is pretty okay, but the cramped feeling you get while being there tends to be a huge turnoff. On this night, they were doing something really wierd, they were "controlling" traffic going from one floor to the next, it was so odd. I don't remember them doing that the last time I was there. They were only letting a certain amount of people leave and enter the bottom floor at a time. I mean seriously....is that necessary?!?!
Sorry Verve, I've tried you once and then gave you a second chance.....although they say the "third times a charm".....I don't know if I'll be back to experience that one.......

Absolutely SUCKS. First....I went for a birthday party where our salon was on the list for entrance. The gatekeeper botched it and some of us ended up spending 20 to get in. Once inside it was wall to wall packed...arrgh. The party was holed up in VIP ( which I hate) but Bruno the guard gave everyone a hard time entering and exiting AND the section had to be shared with another group of people. The space was only big enough for 10 people tops. And it was considered the big one. Staff was not friendly and the DJ was VERY WEAK. Great design however as far as decor. As far as our group is concerned....all 20 of us vote it a big HELL NO...

This place is pretty descent. The crowd was fun, and the first floor was crazy packed. I liked the top floor, 3rd, where there is a balcony and you can sit outside and get fresh air. The music on the 3rd floor was more hip hop, while the 1st floor was more of reggae and old school/ The cosmopolitan drink I had was very good.
The scene is not what I am used to at all. I guess coming from California, I am more used to a mixed crowd of White/Asians/Others.. this club has like 99.7% Blacks, and 0.3% others, and I swear me and my friend were the only Asians.. OK.. maybe there were like 3 more..hahhahah.. but yeah this was my first clubbing experience in ATL, and it was not too bad. would I come back here? not really, not my kind of scene, but it was not a bad experience.
** Side note for the Ladies**
The bathroom is clean, the lady who works there is very nice, and there is no long line with drunken annoying girls**
Hence instead of giving it 2 stars I am giving it 3... +1 for the bathroom.

During one of my many visits to Atlanta before I made the decision to move here, I was able to go to Verve. My boyfriend, myself, and a couple of friends were killing time waiting at Gladys Knights Chicken & Waffles when we were approached by the bouncer/promoter to come inside. It was free, so after dinner we decided to check it out.
I liked it because each level had its own vibe. The first level had a dancefloor and the bar. I don't remember anything about the second level, but on the third level is the rooftop where there is comfortable seating and you can enjoy the views and conversation. Now the steps between these levels were a little scary, especially if you had one too many. I know there have been some mishaps on those stairs.
I don't think I had anything to drink, so I can't comment on the pricing and quality of the drinks. I think parking may be an issue, there is a small lot right next door. I am not that familiar with the area, but from what I could tell you may have to walk a bit to get there. I lucked up because I ate at Gladys Knights and they have free parking for customers. Overall, Verve gets a "B" or 4 stars mainly for atmosphere.

Thursdays Verve throws a jamaican music night. They play dance hall, and essentially west indian music. It costs $20 to get in. Ok let me do this Nikki style. So you go down to peachtree street and park your car in an area that's infested with crackheads, and winos. But don't be scarred these are some of the hardest working crackheads I've ever met. They come in handy as hell. I gave one crack head $3 to watch my car, and make sure it didn't get towed, and told him that if the tow truck came to create a scene and stall long enough for me to come and see what's happening outside, and I'll be damned if he wasn't still sitting there next my car watching it when i came out. i gave him $2 more dollars for his hard work, especially since I parked illegally. Ok, moving on, I walked up to the door, and there's this bouncer who is a complete asshole, now if you've read my other reviews bouncers and i just don't mix. And why i seem to think they will somehow be different, is beyond my understanding, but i seriously have to ask, do all bouncers go to the same asshole training school? I mean do club owners pay them extra to but a complete ass to everyone, and act as though they are doing us a favor? I mean we're paying our money to get in, I mean am I the only one that realizes that the reverse psychology club owners use is brilliant, because the worse we are treated the more we want to be in their venue? I mean they want to make a profit, and so I believe all club owners devised a grand plot to bamboozle idiot patrons, like to pay them to be treated poorly. i swear it works. It seems the more people get treated like they aren't worthy of their club the more we want to belong and enter. Ok ok i digress. So, there's this cute asian bartender, and one white one, both male. The asian bartender is serious about his work, he never cracks a smile, and seems really focused on his job. He serves you quick and fast, and wastes no time making change, his hard work makes up for his lack of personality. I like the set up, it works. Its not very big, but it works. The music is pretty good. Now let's address the crowd. Might I begin by stating, i have never seen soo many attractive, and sexually questionable black men in my life. Atlanta is notorious for have alot of gay men. men that are on the Downlow, or bi-sexual. So, when i'm standing there waiting on some cutie to hit on me, i'm wondering if I acted masculine if that would attract a guy, because , lord, some of those guys were more put together than the ladies. I'm sorry but i see why some of the guys aout here are a bunch of queens, most of you women look a hot mess. Yes i said it, a hot mess!!!!There was this one chick that wore a blue bra top, and gaucho pants, thats it , and let's not talk about the baby mama's in there that i swear you wanna ask, shouldn't your fat ass be at home with your kids? or Are you still pregnant or did you eat an entire watermelon before you left the house? I mean a hot mess!!!!! But its a great place to be...all races are welcome. But, ladies you're going to have to be the aggressor in this club, though I was asked to dance alot, if you want a particular guy that you find attractive, you're gonna have to initate first contact, and be sure to ask "Are you gay?"

Nestled in the newly named SoNo District, located between Downtown and Midtown Atlanta, you will find the hottest new destination for the urban chic crowd. Enjoy three levels of entertainment, including a rooftop loft with a breathtaking Atlanta skyline view. On the second level enjoy succulent meals prepared by the in house chef and after dinner drop in on the ground floor to groove to the sounds provided by several resident DJs. VIP seating is available and for private affairs book one of the floors for your special event. Verve is in a class by itself offering exclusivity and luxury to its patrons. I have enjoyed my visits to Verve, either for after work drinks or a late night party. The dance floor can get packed, so make sure you are going for more of the lounge atmosphere than to flaunt your disco fever. As with most new businesses, they are working out the kinks, but you will have a good time if you go with someone special or a group of friends for a cocktail and/or dinner before a show at the Fox or an Atlanta football or basketball game.
Event Space
* The top floor has an outdoor rooftop lounge area that accommodates guests both inside and outside.
* Second floor is available for dining and private cocktail parties.
* The ground floor is lined with VIP booths, a small stage and dance floor accented with a full bar.
