Yay! I've used VR for my company's email newsletters for the last 3 years, and I've been very happy with them. The software and layout tools are easy to use, whether you're making something from scratch or using your own HTML template. Customer service has been great as well, and I've been happy with the phone support I've gotten.
As an added bonus, they've got a program for 501c3 organizations that allows qualifying non-profits to get a very large amount (10,000?) of free email credits per month. FANTASTIC. They've got details about it on their website somewhere. I'd strongly recommend VR.
Ok. final update.
Very friendly customer service.... thank you Jenna for the personal checkup.
The customer service folks were able to override all the "bounce" entries. Then, I sent out another message only to have the friend in Europe with a gmail "out-of-office" autoresponse get listed as bounced again.

Thoroughly unhelpful. Their tech support sent me a response saying there was nothing wrong with the link and included said link in the e-mail as proof.
Wait for it...
It didn't work.
Still, the e-mail was useful evidence to forward to my supervisor and saved me from a write-up for this little fiasco. I'm all about the silver lining folks. The silver lining and Constant Contact.

I love using Vertical Response for all of our restaurant's promotions and newsletters. I started years ago using their wizard templates and have now moved onto their canvasses. I was able to self-teach myself through trial and error, and anytime I got stuck their chat help was VERY helpful. I recommend it to as many people as I can. I looked at Constant Contact and tried to use it, but I found Vertical Response much easier.
I have used Vertical Response for several years and love it's ease. I now use it regularly marketing two companies.
My comment re: webinar done by Chris Brogan 11/6 on using social network sites. I finally left the webinar as Chris spoke too fast, his use of acronyms and networking terms I was unfamiliar with, made it difficult to follow. I expected an introductory level class and was disappointed.
Good product but could use some tweaking to make it more competitive.
More card stock choices for postcards. Heavy/Glossy is too expensive for me to use as much as I would like. Other providers give options, and as a result, I do my postcards through another vendor.
Provide some assistance to 501c(6) non-profits. We struggle to provide services to the community just like a 501c(3).
Oh, Thanks for the regular conferences. It gives me a chance to pick your brain on good practices!
Other than that, thank you for making our foray into the world of e-communications doable.
Anybody else notice all fo the 5 star posts from SF? Is it Belkin all over again?
VerticalResponse is the quickest, most affordable way for our small business to effectively and successfully market our one-of-a-kind, fine jewelry designs to our world wide customer base.
By using VerticalResponse with our opt-in list, we create professional email marketing campaigns that inform, educate and motivate our clients to take action. For example, we used VerticalResponse to send an email campaign to rally our clients to vote for our company in a San Francisco "Best of" contest. Our campaign delivered double digit open and click rates and allowed us to finish a VERY close 2nd place to a much larger competitor! Proof that email marketing truly works!
As a small company we don't have a lot of time and resources to allocate to marketing so when we found VerticalResponse we breathed a sigh of relief knowing we could do it ourselves in a polished, professional manner that delivers results.
After hearing lots of great buzz about Vertical Response, I excitedly thought I'd try their services on our new website!
Their product offering is great (although comparable to Campaigner and Constant Contact), however their service is severly lacking.
We've been waiting for over 4 days now for a response on an urgent item needed to actually implement their product (email marketing/newsletter sign-up) into our website, but have not heard anything.
You'd think that as a new customer, they'd want to really make it easy to use their products...
We've called them multiple times and emailed -- the response has been "the API technician is working on it and will get in touch with you shortly."
Tomorrow afternoon we'll be at Day 5 -- let's see if we've received a response.
If you're looking for a company with great customer service AND a great product, Vertical Response is not your answer. If you want only a great product, VR may be your answer. We'll be able to better answer that if they ever get back to us!
May 6th update: I received an email from the VR team with an apology for their lacking service thus far, and a full-hearted attempt to make it right! I'm optimistic they've stepped up to the plate.
Good customer service doesn't mean never making mistakes. It means doing the right thing when you make mistakes.
VR has done what they can to make it right by getting the info I need to implement their product on my website. Thanks!
We have been very happy with Vertical Response. It lets our small business send out our once-a-month email telling our customers about all the new work our artisans have brought in, in the previous month, as well as notices about events we have going on at our shop PRACTICAL ART in Phoenix. It has some pretty easy-to-use features, such as, we were able to simply add some code to our web site so that visitors can sign up for our monthly e-blast there (http://www.practical-a... if you want to see how it looks). It's such an easy system that we keep our web browser on our home page, so that when people in the shop want to sign up for our email, we just load their info that way. We've only been open a year and we have over 3,500 names on our email list. We don't use Vertical Response for anything other than email. If we sent out more than one email a month, we probably would be better off with Constant Contact because of their rate system - so it's best to compare. We pay by the email, 1 cent to each address sent. There are some clunky features that aren't intuitive for composing the email, and the photo editor could be more sophisticated, but overall we are happy with VR.
A terrific local company! Vertical Response has allowed us to significantly improve email communications with our customers at a very good price. Their service has been exemplary: the few times I had questions I was able to reach a live person who did a great job. Two other big pluses: they have wonderful tracking reports which really help me know how effective my emails are, and lots of materials on their site (demos, forums, knowledge base) to help me improve my emails. Seriously, this is a great tool for small business owners; I can't recommend them highly enough.
After using other self-service survey tools I was happy to hear VR launched a survey tool. Other tools didn't have the professional look and feel I was looking for. Plus the added convenience of having one account for email and survey costs on on one bill along with having all the historical data about the user is invaluable.
I love this company. I appreciate the flexibility they offer and prefer their method of billing to the flat monthly fee; since I don't need a monthly service this is actually a way better deal for me. The system is easy to use for a person who isn't tech savvy, such as yours truly. Templates look better than the company a lot of other people use. Opt-in forms are simple to make and updating my email database a snap. Mostly I appreciate Vertical Response for their excellent customer service. I had to call a couple of times when I first set up my account last year and I found the people working there to be prompt, polite, funny and smart. With no hold times!
This is an awesome email marketing tool that integrates with my http://salesforce.com database, and that makes my life as a small business owner easier. The HTML editor is great and makes it easy to produce very professional-looking email newsletters. In addition, they will register an email domain for your business, which really helps with your email open rate (no spoofing). I like the per email charge because I never have to pay for what I don't use. This service is essential for any small to medium size business. VR has over 50,000 small business customers.
I use VerticalResponse when creating email newsletters at work. The application is easy to use, and whenever I do have a hard time (like when the person in my company created a newsletter using CSS -- don't do it), their customer service is helpful and prompt. My calls are always answered on the spot, and the person on the other end generally seems to know a lot about HTML and CSS programming.
