Camarillo, CA
I am almost full blooded Italian and I grew up in the Northeast...where Italians are on every corner and they KNOW how to make Italian food. Moving to California 2 years ago, I thought I'd never have good Italian food again unless I made it myself. This restaurant changed that thinking.
Our waiter was amazing, the food was perfect, the atmosphere was so laid back. I am incredibly impressed and I have tried many Italian places out here. This is the FIRST and ONLY one I have liked. Definitely check this place out. -

For anyone looking to see if this place has great authentic italian food, go somewhere else. The food is bland and tastes like it's just been microwaved. Do NOT waste your time or money coming here.

The food was delicious and the service was awesome! I had the pesto tortellini, my date had the chicken marsala and we both loved our meals. For dessert we ordered bananas foster which they cooked tableside! The staff was all very nice and very accommodating. I would definitely come back with friends and family :)

We went here several years ago and had a wonderful dinner on New Year's Eve. For some reason we did not get back even though we live in the area.
My wife and I ate here again about a year ago and agreed that something had changed. The service was not great and the food was mediocre.
Last week there was a car show in Old Town Camarillo and four of us decided to give Verona a try. The other couple really loves Italian food so we thought we would give it another shot.
After we were seated we were not greeted by a server for several minutes. The restaurant was not busy and it seemed that the servers were just hanging out. We finally got some bread and waited until it was finished before we were offered drinks.
We eventually met our waiter who was a very good one. However, you can be the best server with poor food and it does not add up to a good experience.
I had the Cioppino and it was excellent. My wife and friends had other dishes that were all similar sauce with very poorly prepared entrees. The worst was the Gnocchi. They were hard as rocks and not worth eating.
This is my first Yelp one star rating. The reason is that, after three visits we will not return to this restaurant. -

I've only been here once so far and we went mainly to share an appetizer and have a few drinks. The restaurant atmosphere was nice and the outside seating was wonderful! We ordered the calamari and it was fairly average but the bread that's given to every table was fantastic! I gotta say though....the service here is really some of the best service I've had in a long time! Very attentive without being TOO attentive and incredibly friendly staff! My boyfriend and I were so impressed with the service that it's now become our "go-to" spot for an incredibly relaxing, mellow, and enjoyable evening!
I can't wait to try more on their menu. All the food that was being delivered around us looked delicious! -

Camarillo, CA
Love the carbonara. I must diet for a week after eating it! I feel bad though, I drive by this place every night from work and notice, always seems dead! I saw it has been getting mixed reviews, sadly- hope it is not an indicator of things to come. Would love if service was a little more attentive and doting, as the last few times, very short and impatient with questions and requests.

If you want A quality Italian food at a price that will not break the bank, this is the place for you.
You could spend a tiny bit less and eat at some Italian CHAIN restaurant, but they used frozen and microwaved food. This place is delicious, freshly made and never microwaved. The service is ALWAYS excellent. My wife and I come here several times a year (don't let that fool you - we don't eat out much at all) and we have YET to be disappointed.
The menu staples are great, as are the specials. I've had expertly prepared salmon and phenomenal filet mignon here. -

Thousand Oaks, CA
I was very surprised to see all the positive reviews-
Service was horrible, but I can live with bad service if the food is good...the food was not good.
The warm dense bread served with olive oil/pesto was pretty good, but that is where it ends.
Lets start with the water, yea it's just a glass of tap water, but it tasted so bad that I had to order a Pelegrino. I don't think Camarillo water is bad, so it must be something else...the ice, the pipes, something, but whatever it is FIX IT!!! I'm sure they cook with this water!
We ordered appetizers "Carciofi Fritti" the description was...baby artichoke, lightly battered in lemon garlic sauce. Sounded great, I was expecting something like this http://static-p4.fotol...
What we got was giant canned artichoke hearts lightly battered and fried, it looked like a hard boiled egg that been battered. The sauce was OK but the center of the Carciofi was cold and soggy.
My wife ordered a soup as an entree, I ordered a salad and the linguine with clams. They brought the soup right away, I never got my salad, and the linguine came about 15 minutes later. My wife finished her soup well before I ever got my food... annoying! The soup had way too much pepper in it and the clams tasted awful. I love a simple Linguine and clams, but this was so bad I had trouble eating it. The kicker cam after about 3-4 bites when I pulled a long black hair out of my mouth---disgusting!!!! Honestly, a hair can happen anywhere, and it is never good, but if the food was good I would totally overlook that!
I asked for the check and refused the box "To go" for the leftovers...$44.00 for one of the worst restaurant experiences I've had in a while.
Gordan Ramsey needs to visit the place ASAP...this is a true kitchen nightmare! -

Absolutely delicious! Wonderful food, exquisite service. The wine list could use some work but if you don't mind a half-block walk west there's a great wine shop called the Wine Closet; a bottle from there has no corkage at Verona. Cheers!

I drove 50 miles yesterday to attend an investment presentation, which include dinner at an Italian restaurant called Verona Trattoria in Camarillo.
I didn't quite remember much really what had been presented, but I could still recall what had been served, aside from the bread & wine:
1st Course: Salad
2nd Course: Filet Brie (Filet Mignon, stuffed with brie cheese)
Desert: Cappuccino gelato
With the friendly and pleasant conversations with nice people I've just meet at this venue, it turned out to be such an enjoyable evening... -

The sauces are incredible. I had the tri-colore which gave me three entrees. Number one was the tortellini in alfredo sauce. Alfredo sauce? Good. Tortellini? Good. Next was the pesto gnocchi. The pesto sauce was creamy and the gnocchi was very good. The third pasta to sample was not at the same level as the first two. It was penne in marinara, the penne was overcooked, the marinara was nothing spectacular. I also tried the meat lasagna, this was very good.
The service was insanely slow. The place was not crowded so there was no wait to get seated and no reason for slow service. To add to my frustration, the wait staff is huge. How could they not coordinate themselves to serve everyone in a timely manner? Is that not what waiters do at restaurants?
Portions are tiny. Tiny. We left after finishing every morsel of food put on our table and paying our almost 60 dollar bill hungry. I ordered a side caesar salad. Although the dressing was tasty, the lettuce did not cover the plate. I finished it in about 6 bites. Tiny portions, wimpy salad.
Food gets 4 stars but service gets 2. Oh, prices are about 18 dollars per entree. -

What a great little find in Camarillo!
I wanted to take my mom out for mother's day who happens to live in Camarillo and so I found this little gem by doing some searching online.
Located in Old Town Camarillo along Ventura Blvd., it's one of many new restaurants that are cropping up in this section of town which according to my mom, seems to be geared to catering to the somewhat new Cal State University of Channel Islands crowd as well as the humongous residential development just a few miles away.
The ambience is really cozy with its green wall paintings and brown accents along with the stenciled ceiling rafters giving the feel of being in a little Italian eatery somewhere on the Mediterranean. There were french doors that opened out to the sidewalk letting the cool breeze waft in as music sung by Frank Sinatra played in the background.
They had a special for mother's day by offering a complimentary glass of sparkling wine. Being that my mom isn't so keen on sparkling wine, they graciously offered a glass of merlot as a replacement.
We were served a basket of toasted bread along with a garlic and olive oil dipping sauce which was really generous with the garlic just the way I like it!
I ordered the special which was a beef stroganoff consisting of sliced filet mignon and mushrooms on fettuccine topped with a cream sauce. I found my dish slightly bland to my liking so I added a little of the garlic dipping sauce to enhance the flavor.
My mom ordered the Eggplant Parmagiana which was out of this world!! Her order came with a generous portion of two large eggplant slices lightly breaded and smothered in a tomato sauce and topped with melted parmagiana cheese. It is served with a side of angel hair pasta and both plates come with a choice of salad or minestrone soup. The salad was a generous plate of greens and was complemented by a rather tasty vinaigrette.
Apparently, the chef was the original one who opened the Bottle Inn in Hermosa Beach several decades ago and this restaurant serves great Italian fare.
It was great catching up with mom in a cool chill place. You got to do things like this because you start realizing, we ain't getting any younger! Good time with mom!
Anyways, it's a cozy place with great ambience serving pretty reasonably priced food (see scanned menu). Heck, the staff even bellowed out a "bon giorno" when we first walked in and they weren't even Italian! Kudos to them as they were extremely attentive and friendly.
It's heartening to see that Camarillo seems to have a growing number of unique and independently-owned eateries and getting away from the franchises. I'd definitely dine here again in the future as it would be a perfect little place to catch up with friends or loved ones over dinner and wine or to go for a romantic date! -

WHOOO WHOO!! I am definitely on a row this week on finding cool little places to eat. I happened to use my fellow yelper's reviews to help find this fabulous place. I went with a friend of mine and we enjoyed the surrounding because it was a quite little restaurant with cute paintings, candles lighting, and a pretty view of the sunset (if you sit on the patio).
As we are enjoying the surrounding the waiter brings us this YUMMMMMMY garlic bread with dipping sauce...it was sOoOOooO good! I think I could full off the bread alone hehe! As we ate the garlic bread, we were trying to decide what entree we wanted. I ordered the Rigatoni Di Mare & Monte (chicken, shrimp, sundry tomato, garlic basil, parmesan cheese, and drizzle with truffle oil) and my friend ordered the Lasagna. Both of the dishes were gOooOOOod -Ooh-goooOod! I have to say, I would go back and have another plate of pasta. -

Last time I ate here was about 3 years ago and it was fabulous from service to food. Last night during the the street fair my daughter and I were excited to see that it was not busy and we could get and outside table to dine right away.
Our excitement soon turned to disappointment. Our caesar salad had a nasty bitter after taste. A table next to us had the same complaint. The server did not seem to care he simply said oh I'll take it off your bill..while I appreciated that I would have rather had a delicious salad.
My daughter had ravioli that was tough and tasteless my eggplant pasta dish also had a sour taste.
We were so disappointed we love Italian and this was a major let down.
We won't be back -

OMG! One of the best meals of my life! I had the special for the evening- lamb w/ mushroom risotto in a cranberry reduction. Every bite provided a burst of perfection. For a starter we had stuffed mushrooms. The sauce was out-of-this-world-good. The dipping oil for the bread was very garlicy and yummy. My friend's bf said his chicken parm. was amazing as well.
This restaurant is perfect for a romantic date and I definitely recommend it to everyone!Listed in: Top Restaurants

I ate here in the summer of 2005 after some outlet power shopping and it was the best italian dining experience I'd ever had... until it was superceded by Arturo's in Marco Island... but I digress.
Best atmosphere of ANY restaurant I've ever eaten at. Fabulous wine selection and our service was outstanding. I had the lasagna, it did not make it to the six minute mark after it was served. Tried to go back, but I was staying in Anaheim and the traffic on the 2nd day I tried to go was held up. Had to give up *sigh* and just let it live on in memories. LA, and Camarillo, I'll be back! -

Walking through the restaurant door, I felt like I had been transported back to New Jersey . The walls are green, the tablecloths are pink and the carpet has nothing to do with the rest of the decor. BUT, that is what made it feel like I was eating at my Italian relatives home. Brownie points for actually playing Italian music!
Our server was super attentive and very happy-go-lucky with the most infectious laugh. My caprese was really good, my veal was so-so. The vegetables that came with the veal were amazing.
I would come back next time I go to Camarillo to watch an IMAX movie. -

My family and I had dinner tonight at Verona in Old Town Camarillo.
We were greeted by a gentleman with a robust "Buona Sera" as we walked through the door. Great start!
Our server was a bit inexperienced, but very sweet and attentive. The wine list was on the small side, but we ordered a Chianti and were very satisfied.
The bread was fantastic! Our meals were delicious. The sauces were very tasty and fresh. The flavors weren't overpowering, but just right.
The restaurant has a cozy ambience.

Pretty good food and good service. This isn't quite a 4 star review. It's a 3.4. I think Camarillo must not have a lot of Italian restaurants in the area and this one really shines. Guess I'm spoiled living on the east coast.
Came here on Yelp reviews and I must say that it was a good meal. The bread was very good. I found myself eating 4 pieces during the meal.
They had Calamari steak on the menu in addition to what you would see typically. It was this very lightly breaded half inch thick piece of calamari. It was served with veggies and a tiny bit of pasta. If you like Calamari, then this is your meal. Quite different as I'm use to the fried calamari appetizer.
The Caesar salad I started with was also good.
For dessert, we had some table side preparation. I had the zabaglione, which completed over some berries. It had too much vermouth for my tastes. My dinner guest had crepes, but we were disappointed when they took out two crepes from a plastic bag and reheated it on the pan.
Very friendly service. Even though we were near or at closing time, they did not rush us. They let the music continue playing and didn't give us the check until we asked for us. I noticed that we were 5 minutes past closing time and they weren't in a rush to put the check on the table and say the usual "Whenever you are ready." -

So here's the nitty-gritty:
Service: not bad, considering there were only one bus-boy and one waiter for the entire restaurant. GREAT personality :)
Food: DELISH! The pasta here is fantastic, and the ingredients are definitely FRESH. I had the lasagna al forno (omg, the bolognes sauce was to-die-for!), my mom had the rigatone mare monte (creamy sauce and perfectly cooked shrimp!), and my dad had the chicken marsala (which he greedily finished without sharing...which means it must have been good!). Only downside is that I'm sure they do not make their own Tiramisu...it tasted like it came from the supermarket.
Price: a little pricey for Italian food....BUT, you get what you pay for (except the dessert)
Location: super easy to find since it's right off the 101 freeway! and plenty of parking!
Ambience: I like the decor...it's nothing spectacular, but very homey-Italian :)
Overall: One of the better places to eat in Camarillo! -

I went here with some business partners for lunch today and was pleasantly pleased.
First the service was nice and attentive.. One of the better experiences I have had because it 'felt' like a family run restaurant rather than one of these institutionalized ones.
I started out with the Melanzani Ripeini, which is their cheese stuff eggplant with marinara.. VERY good.. What was neat about this was that we had 4 at the table, and the waiter actually took the time to portion it and server it... This was a REALLY nice touch. This was gone before it even had time to touch the plate.
We also had the calimari, which unilke most calimari had some big pieces and the breading was light and not overwhelming, also served with their marinara sauce, which was excellent.
My main course was served with a caeser salad, which was crisp and tasty but lacking what I thought would be truely italian, the anchovys.
My main course was really nice also. They allowed us the dinner menu and we all ordered the bree stuffed filet, since it was raved about on several sources. It was really good, and although the meat was tender, it almost felt stewed.. But nonetheless it was memorable and I would get it again. The only downfall was the pasta side, it was a bit overcooked, which i would expect in an Italian restaurant to be al-dente.
And lastly... Really the bomb, was the desert... Everyone else got the typical creme broulee and mousse, which i was told was 'ok' but I got the Zambglione which is created and served tableside.... It was AWESOME and really one of the major reasons I would go back.
A very nice occasion, I would defintely return and claim it as a go-to place for good italian cuisine. -

Wasn't impressed. Definitely a nice ambience inside with paintings and a very authentic Italian decor and music. But the food was not worth the high price. I would recommend bistro 13 or lucerne over this place for good quality, decently priced Italian food in Camarillo.

Well done Verona Trattoria. Sometimes I feel like I'm a secret shopper going to these restaurants and reviewing them while I'm eating. But, hey, that's the fun of yelp. or should I say addiction of yelp?
For our anniversary we decided to be daring and try a place we've never been to but have seen so many times driving by. Also, the reviews here were good. Thanks everone. Immediately seated by the windows, we were treated to some delicious bread with oil dip that held us over until the salad and soup came. The wines by the glass we ordered were fine: Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. The soup does not need any pepper added. I should have tasted it before accepting the offer to add freshly ground pepper to it. The salad had a very tasty dressing on it. My wife ordered the beef filet stuffed with brie and I had their special white fish. Both were served with pasta and veggies. Both were great. We mopped the plates clean. Also, the vegetables were really good. They were so good that I asked for and got an extra plate of them. Finally to top it all off, we ordered their Tiramisu and we were done. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. For what it is, a little italian place on the boulevard in Camarillo, I'll give it 5 stars. It also wasn't as expensive as I thought it would be. We left for under $100 including tip. They are offering a special $13 prix fixe menu if you eat there before 6pm. We missed it, but I thought you might like to know.Listed in: Camarillo Nights

Wow. My hubby and I have been wanting to try this place for a long time... But they were always full when we wanted to go. We saw in the ACORN that they have a Sunset Special (5 pm to 6 pm) for only $12.50 with 1/2 off house wine. We decided to go for an early dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Portions were generous and delicious. I got the Linguine Toscano, this meal would of cost me about $30 if I went in after 6 pm. I would totally recommend trying the Sunset Special.. Happy Eats!

This is the second time I have had lunch at the Verona Trattoria in Camarillo. The food and service was great, I mean really great, both tiimes.
Yesterday I had the salmon salad with Dejon dressing. Every bite was a delight.
My associates had the lunch specials and they both appreciated the just very excellemt food and service. The price was right for a good lunch too, about $12 per head including iced tea to drink. Garlic bread and a wonderful dipping sauce rounded off the table.
Service was on time and professional. And they weren't too pushy about clearing the table. -

Ah Verona, one of mine and my father's favorite places to eat. I used to come here quite often during lunch and business meetings. I've had nearly everything on the menu, so I have a good idea of what they do well. They start you off with warm garlic bread accompanied by a pesto spread. Warning, don't get too full, there's another course coming. I'm simple, I enjoy the spaghetti and meatballs, but I've tried their filet mignon stroganoff, pollo marsala, gnocchi, pasta tricolore, just to name a few. Save room for dessert and get the bananas foster. Did I mention they also have a great selection of wine?

Very simply put, a great atmosphere with bad food. The sauce on the veal had some funky chemical taste. Definitely not a good experience. My taste comes from the Bay Area so I may be a little too critical for Camarillo. Although there are Italian restaurants in TO that are better.

Camarillo, CA
I had been wanting to try this place for a while. It looked very promising from the outside. I must admit, the atmosphere at Veron Trattoria is excellent. They really did a great job of creating a kind of old world italian restaurant feeling about the place. The large open doors that face a park across the street bring a light airy feeling. The building old wood beams have been made decorative with the addition of painted grape vines. Unfortunately decor does not a good restaurant make. A good restaurant needs to also have good food. This is where it all fell apart.
After placing our order we were still waiting 45 minutes later for our food to arrive. The waiter, to his credit, felt badly about it and gave us two glasses of wine on the house. Finally when the food did arrive it was not very good. My wife ordered a meal that came with a side of broccoli. The Broccoli was still frozen in the center. The waiter returned and asked if the food was good. Having already waited over 45 minutes to get it and having plans to attend a movie 20 minutes later we decided just to tell him it was alright and get it over with. Hopefully they will work out there issues in the kitchen. I am not ready to give up on this place but I was disappointed. I will give them 6 more months and try again. If things are still not in order back there then I will never go back. -
Review from Deborah H.
Ventura, CA
Besides the name and charming exterior, there is little about this place that is Italian.
My husband and I have driven past the place many times and we finally decided to go give it a try. What a disappointment.
Now, I'm a 'foodie' and quality and taste of food is more important to me than the ambiance or even the service (I'll endure mediocre service for a great meal).
I ordered the Linguine Puttenasca (my favorite), and my husband ordered the white fish. The house salads arrived first (we were told the dressing would be a 'light balsamic vinegrette", but we got 'Diet Seven-Seas Italian'. The lettuce leaves themselves were fine, but the disgusting dressing killed it. The pasta arrived and while the pasta itself was cooked to perfection (not mushy, not too a'ldente), the sauce was nothing close to a puttensca (the few kalamata olives didn't fool me), and had bland flavor that was covered up by powdered garlic.
I wanted to like it because I was hungry, but sadly, I just couldn't eat it.
My husband's fish was tender and had been cooked over an open grill, with a suspiciously 'Tri-tip' burn on the outside. The pasta he received was very garlicy, but sadly, of the powdered garlic variety. 2 slivers of carrot, and a sprig of broccoli were the 'vegetables' for this $25.00 main-course.
If you are not an italian-food lover, and just want to be in the 'cute part' of downtown Camarrillo, then, go to Verona Trattoria and say you did it. However, if you are looking for a good meal, this is not the restaurant for you...you'll get a more authentic (and better tasting) meal at Macaroni Grill. -
